Hands-on video of TF700T - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xDDxMusFK9E
Updated with proper link. Just stumbled onto this. Seems legit, it was only linked through Tech in Style, an Asus blog.
"This will be available very soon."
I'm really pissed at Asus about this whole experience.

This shows the plastic back.
What do you guys think for the tradeoff? $100 for an uglier plastic backing (just for wifi and gps, although I'm having no issues with my wifi and gps atm) with a 1080P on a tablet with only a 10'' screen?

That **** is ugly.

The back looks terrible IMO.

They probably rushed the fabrication of that plastic back just to get it in time for CES. It looks terrible.

Here's the important question on this video. What the F**K is up with that god awful music? It's like tenth level of hell hold music.

updated video link, unlisted video.

I like how the back looks. I don't know why, the black strip looks good to me

I think it looks really bad compared to the Prime^^ Also it seems waaay thicker on those pictures. Could be due to the high resolution display? Or it could just seem that way because of the picture.

Must be the picture as they claim T201 and TF700T use the same dock mount. The dock mount has front and rear guide/stabilization rims which the TF700T has to fit between, so it must be same height/thickness.

Does anyone know must you use a sim card inside the 3G Prime to get better working WiFi or will it have better WiFi performance just by using WiFi only over the original Prime?
WiFi only is really all I need just trying to work out if its possible to use the 3G version as WiFi only.

Um... what 3G Transformer Prime? There is none at the moment.
If there was a 3G Transformer Prime, you can be sure there will be a plastic RF window for better RF transparency, like the strip the TF700T has, or the Wifi Ipad versus the 3G one.

is the TF700T not a WiFi and 3G version of the Transformer Prime?

5ghz N wifi?

Perhaps I was being complacent, but I just assumed the prime would hop on the 5ghz network in my house....but in fact I can only see the 2ghz network. Anyone have input on this?

Hmmm.... problem ?
I can connect to my 2.4 gHz wap at work. Can't connect to the 5 gHz.
Ohh crap! Please no! **** me!

The TP has a Broadcom BCM4329 chip which does support 5GHz mode of operation. However, Asus did not include the support for running the device at that mode, either in software or due to the type of antennas used. Could be for saving power..
Perhaps we might see a custom ROM which enables this mode of operation.
This sucks! I just got my prime and I can't use the 5ghz speeds in my house to stream HD video.
I've tried the 2.4ghz N speeds but the max speed is about 65mbps...nothing close to the 130mbps that my laptop gets. And, this is next to the router.
When I tried to stream HD video from my home server, it is a bit choppy and has lots of dropped frames.
Any suggestions???

Sorry, I should add that I was accessing the network videos through ES File Explorer and playing them on MX Video Player.
Well ****. This is pretty surprising to me.

Though I would agree with you that it's a major bummer, I don't know why it's surprising,. This limitation has been mentioned before, research is your friend...especially when you're giving them $500 of your hard-earned money.

This.
It was on the front page for a while in the same thread discussing the single speaker. It is wierd that the chip supports it but they disabled it.

Don't know why it was disable and I don't think the hardware is there it can't be for power savings the iPad 2 has it
I don't think its fair to say the consumers in general are going to be able to spot the fact that this doesn't have 5ghz. You'd have to be somewhat technical and do a lot of digging. As long as the wireless N standard has been around, it is very odd to me that they disabled this.
5ghz is great for streaming video and I'm having a lot of trouble with 2.4ghz streaming clean HD video.

It's also good for router wars when you're fighting interference from your neighbors.

I would say consumers in general are using 2.4ghz and the somewhat technical are using 5ghz. Personally I tried using 5ghz in my house but the range limitation put me back on 2.4ghz since I didn't want access points set up all over the place.
I dunno i think they should have still made it available. If it sucks the power up then people can switch. I am forced to use 2.4ghz at home because my phone doesnt support it but being that i will be using the tablet instead it be nice to switch back to 5ghz.
The hardware supports it so thats good atleast, which means asus or a dev can enable it in the future.

While the 2.GHz band is narrower and frequently more crowded, it isn't inherently slower -- at least not so much that it would cause the video streaming problems cited here. Using WiFi Analyser I am able to see the channels in use in my area by WiFi and changed the channels used by my router. My initial change failed - maybe I chose a channel with a lot of non-WiFi traffic on it. But my 2nd choice worked brilliantly. I can stream HD from my Twonky over WiFi with no problems.

i want to buy this tablet

I want to buy the prime but I heard that have a wifi problem and GPS i dont know what to do .
I need your help.
Buy the prime or wait for transformer 3(or other new tablets?)
What to do?
now I have transformer TF101
You should work on your English skills or offer it in multiple languages.
Choose what you want: Transformer 16GB, Transformer 32GB, Transformer Prime 32GB, or Transformer Prime 64GB. Find a store that carries it, online or locally, buy it. There are separate docks for the Transformer and Transformer Prime and you will need the correct dock; the GB's don't matter to the dock.

i am sorry i wrote this from my cell-phone very fast
i want transformer prime 32G but worth it to buy it without the keyboard and sell my first transfomer with keyboard
You should wait bro
think for your self.. why let others tell you want you want and don't want.. won't go far in life if you let everyone tell you what to do..
Now go to work..
The Prime is nice but GPS doesn't work while moving fast. If you like a sturdy metal body then get the TF201. If you want GPS, don't care about metal body and want the higher display then wait and get the TF700 (or whatever it is).
Very easy.
i neeed for home dont for fast moving

Don't by ASUS. Get Samsung GT 10.1 and you will be happy. or better yet get Apple Ipad2 and you will be amazed. ASUS TP has too many issues.

Is Prime best tablet?

I want a tablet but not sure how much use it'll get. Will the prime play xvid & avi files? Does it have HDMI out of the box or requires a dongle? Compared with what's about at moment and what's coming out this qtr the prime looks best of them. I have never used apple products but understand ipads are limited to playing iTunes stuff? Or for same money as prime should I get a i5 blu ray playing laptop? Thanks if you can help.

The answer is yes. It is easily the fastest, thinnest, tablet on the market right now. For it's price it is very affordable and ICS makes the tablet experience better.
Keep in mind it's not perfect, there's a force close here - a random reboot there. A vocal minority have had wifi & gps issues. My wifi is fine, my gps appears to work (although I barely use it enough to testify). Battery life is average considering the speed/preformance the tablet has.
The keyboard dock is the selling point over every other tablet out there right now. USB, additional battery life, full sized sd (don't forget the microsd on the tablet), and a decently sized chiclet keyboard that I'm typing this very message on.
HDMI works out of the box, assuming you have the appropriate cables to connect to it. Keep in mind it's mini hdmi. Most video formats are supported (no wmv), the dice player app plays them quite well.
No buyer's remourse here, I'm very proud of to own this tablet. Ipads do require everything to be installed through itunes, and you may have to purchase different copies of apps for many iphone apps you bought if you want them on the ipad. Android gives you the app for all your devices with a singe purchase and you have 15 minutes to request a refund if there are any initial problems. Transfering files is as simple as droping them on a flash drive, and box/dropbox work just as well as icloud. Also 3rd party apps can be installed through checking an option in the settings menu - no need to jailbreak.
YES..next question..lol
t3rm3y - is the prime the best tablet?
TFP fanboi - Hell yah it is the best tablet
Plays anything you throw at it and has HDMI out. Keyboard dock is a must imo, if you want to get its full potential.
if my opinion is taken into consideration...which it always is (im kinda full of myself ATM)
YES it is the best tablet on the market right now
Yes among Android tablets so far.

Sweet Evo!!
I have had so many issues with my Transformer Prime to the point I would recommend someone shopping for an non-iPad tablet to go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab. It's hardware is solid, it's built free of physical design defects and it's NOT using an over hyped yet immensely buggy Android 4.0 ice cream sandwhich OS.
Just make sure that when you are not sitting right next to the router you bring a beer can/aluminum foil/cut open the Prime so the wifi doesn't become unusable.
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a very strong tablet.
Thanks everyone. Thats all good to hear... regarding the Samsung option.. I don't think it has HDMI out so I can't watch my files on the TV??

For me it is, others may disagree!
Go for it,if you don't like it, you can always return it.
I have the Prime and in the UK I'd say, for the money. it is the best tablet you can buy. In the UK we get it with a keyboard dock (I haven't seen the option to buy without unless you get a US version?) for £500. It has mini HDMI built into the tablet itself, can accept 64GB micro SDXC cards in the tablet and the dock has room for standard SD cards up to 64GB as well as a USB port for memory sticks, HDD's, wired contollers etc etc
Even though it plays alot out of the box I purchased Dice player for movies and prefer to use that.
Some THD games come with 3d stereo compatibility and when connected to a 3d tv atomatically switch to 3d.
A wireless PS3 pad works via bluetooth (once paired) for gaming whilst linked to a tv with an app called sixaxis useful when games don't support game pads.
As you can tell, even with one or two niggles, I am very happy with this Prime and use it more than my desktop pc atm. I even purchased Splashtop THD to access my pc (great for music, films and some games) from my tablet anywhere.

[Q] USB 3G modem - will it work on Prime or TF300?

Simple question - any ideas?
I dot iPad1 3G but I need keyboard and something other than iOS and Safari.
Transformer (at least before Win8 devices) seems like a perfect device but I need 3G connectivity from time to time. I can do it with my phone but since it is ****ty ZTE Blade its battery is not very good.
If I could have an option for stick (where I need 3g for longer than few minutes) it would be great!
First of all don't knock the blade , that phone was amazing for its price and spec.
In terms of a 3G dongle i don't think the android os supports it yet.

Oh, I know. I paid about 299 zloty for brand new one abot 6 months ago. Since I do not call much I don't need anything better for my private use.
But that creates a problem with 3G Internet.
I think there's a thread in general that was about 3g modems. Someone got it working but he couldn't download anything just load webpages (and baybe flash videos but I'm not sure)

It would be possible but then you have the same issue people had with the GPS dongle. They would think it's ugly. Also it probably wouldn't be very cheap.
As for jelly bean I have no idea.

If you have a Prime with bad WiFi, either exchange it at the store you bought it from or RMA it with Asus. Asus has been pretty good about exchanging Prime's that experience bad WiFi.
There is no point to making a "work-around" product to deal with an issue that only a certain segment of Prime users are experiencing. It is better to just get a Prime that works as it should.
