ICS MKV Support - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I thought ICS was suppose to support MKV by default. I am able to play video but get no sound.
Dice player works fine as it did on 3.2 but was expecting the built in player to work.
Can anyone confirm?

I think it is a software issue.
Prior to ICS, and I couldn't play a mkv file.. Now I get video but no sound just like you. A step in the right direction. Hopefully will be fixed with an update.

You can use MX video player and chose an alternate music stream and that plays the sound. You can choose the alternate stream from the music icon at the top when you are playing the Video file.
Hope that helps.

Give QQplayer from the market a try.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tencent.research.drop

Try BSPlayer Lite from the market for your mkv files. It's free and seems to work well.
I also got no sound from my TFP with ICS with other players.

You don't get sound because the Prime doesn't support the audio codec of whatever video you are trying to play.

i use v player. Always works smoothly with mkv. And if its one of those movies that doesn't like to play right, it will work on mobo player. Mobo player is choppy on mkv for me so I use it as back up

It can support native MKV decoding but you need to take a look at the audio codec as the stock player probably does not support it.
Why would you want to use it anyways? Dice is amazing

I use Mobo Player for all my android devices.

I use Dice and this works smooth as well..

This is so frustrating. I installed every player imaginable and the only one that plays the mkv perfectly is Dice. The sound with the Dice Player is horrible and unlistenable though. All the other players play the sound perfectly, but the video is choppy on all of them. The mkv is a 1080p if that matters. I'm ready to blow a gasket over here !

100% sure it's Dice. Did you try a 1080p mkv with Dice?

hmm 720p so far, just checked it, will give u feedback when i checked a 1080p ^^
also thought it wouldn't accept the size of an 1080p full movie because of the fat?

Try BSPlayer (free on the market).
I've only found 1 video so far that it refused to play.
BSPlayer has played everything I've thrown at it.
i played a 16gig bluetooth rip of the matrix last night on my tab over my home network on my TV. it was glorious. this is why i bought this tablet
I use MX Player but still trying to find a player that will play 10bit 720p files correctly

No luck with MoboPlayer?
dice player worked for me. Loaded ironman 2 1080p into my SD card, and played flawlessly. Dice is only a HW player though so when I play my avi files, sometimes I usually need to use MX player.
What is the quality of AVI videos when you play it? I had problem with quality on original Transformer - a strange grid of dots all over the movie in most players (in one there was no grid but the movie looked like i had 100 colours at most).

Nope ill try again I was testing a ton of video players the other night lol
Just played three of my 720p high profile MKV movies using BS Player with no problems at all. My Xoom cannot play these. Very happy about this and was one of my biggest gripes about Xoom/Tegra 2.
I downloaded a 14gig MKV (the movie was 300) and played perfect on the tab with the file local on its HD. Streaming.. I need more bandwith for that

Any video players with tegra 3 support?

I have found, at least with my media collection, that Diceplayer works better across all types of codec configurations.
I normally use BsPlayer, since it has built in samba client and therefore no need to use ex file explorer to start dice player. If BsPlayer does not cut it, then I switch to Diceplayer.
Mx video player does not currently decode all formats i hardware on the prime, so wait a little while with that.
I am finding the default video player after the ICS update to be quite capable. Haven't had to download any codecs, or anything.

Yes, I also have been impressed by the built in player but it has had problems with playing audio on many of my files.

I don't believe there are any of yet. I currently use Dice Player which has played 99% of my videos on HW. For the other 1%, MX Player seems to have the fastest SW decoder. I know Dice has a Tegra 2 plugin (tried it on my Prime to no avail). I wouldn't be surprised if we see Tegra 3 optimized decoding before long. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to do, but since Tegra 3 is so new, there just haven't been any attempts yet.

I agree. The video playback is much better but do not have sound on many MKV 720p high profile. DICE Player is the best for me so far with BS Player second.

I find that the default ICS player is bugged out. Instead of a menu for play, pause and stuff it just shows colored squares (looks like my screen is melting form the inside out) and is obviously bugged out, it doesn't play half the stuff dice player does.
mx player has been treating me the best since I can select hardware or software for the video and the audio separately, allowing me to play 1080p videos and for those that the audio isn't working I can select software decoding of audio. Also MX player is so far the only player that has been handling multiple audio tracks and multiple subtitle tracks well.
@all
OK, sorry, I stand corrected. Just tried out an .mkv on the built-in player which gave no sound at all! Ugghh...
i no this is a bit random
does any one how i can open the default layer app without going through gallery, because am having problem finding my video files through the numerous files on the gallery, thanks

Can you upload a sample? I have different kind of mkvs and i have no problem.
There are a few encoding settings with make problems (like 10bit) but overall i didn't found many h.264 mkv videos which are not playing.

What is best video player for CM7?

what video support is there with the latest version (3.5 alpha)?
What video player app should I install or should I use stock video app?
What video codecs/wrappers are supported? I have tried playing h264 mp4, mkv, and normal xvid (not 720p), and none of them worked.
Dice player, it's the best video player of Android, but on TP it works very randomly

Moboplayer or Mobo Video Player?
Also, which codec plugin did you installed?
The irony is that all the movies that these struggle with play beautifully on WebOS with Kalemsoft Media Player. Will they ever be able to port this over to Android?
For now, I guess i can reboot to webOS to watch a movie, but it is a pain since WebOS takes forever to boot up.
Ok, I finally found one player that plays most files pretty well. It is VLC player beta:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517415
The trick is to change the aspect ratio to "Center" so that it doesn't have to resize. Works great with 720p but will make anything less like 480 smaller.
Otherwise, you will get pixelation.
Still don't understand how you guys get MX player to work great. I get video stutter like crazy with high profile 720p videos.
I dont get why you are having so many issues.
I just downloaded mx player, nothing else and it plays my 1080 and 720 mkvs flawlessly..
I've been using rock player since my nook color days. It opens everything I can throw at it.

[Q] Using stock video player to play MP4

I have converted the videos to H264 MP4 by using format factory. Every time when I played the video, it ran smoothly in the beginning. But when the video was about to end, it started to lag. This circumstance happens to every video I played. May I know if anybody is facing the same problem ? It's really frustrating.
Why do you want absolutely the stock player?
Try mx video + arm7 mx codecs on market.
get Diceplayer, best out there. no need for extra codecs. just dowload the free version and play your video.
Why do it harder then it is?

I saw a thread on other website teaching us to convert the videos into the format which can be played perfectly by the stock player. Therefore I just gave it a try. Ok, thank you for your suggestion.

[Q] HD movies on PRime

Hi
i have use mx player for a while on my tablet.
but since they removed the DTS audio codec i have switched to vplayer
but my issue on my prime is that when i play for instance an episode of game of thrones or breaking bad on 720p .mkv version it starts ok...
but after a minute... the audio decoder doens't work anymore and it seems like you can hear only the background noise...
i used to have the same problem with mx player, but there i had found an easy option make the audio normal again. I use to switch form hardware <--> software decoding. And then it would be ok.
the odd thing is that this doens't happen with HD movies...
But for the vplayer i haven't found a sollution. Is there anyone who had te same issue?
thanks
I had issues with MX player when trying to play 1080p .mkv files and the best solution i found was to download and use BSPlayer and go into settings and set it to use Hardware decoding (BSEngine).
Never had any issues and 1080p .mkv files play perfectly - even on power save mode

Third! It's what I use!
Tried different formats?
I've only had my TP for a short time and have only tried a couple of movies on it. Not knowing which format was best I chose to rip to MP4 format and it hasn't given me any trouble so far. Is there some advantage to .mkv?
mkv is more of a losless wrapper, better quality, no compression, much larger file than mp4
The thing with Diceplayer or most players doesn't render embedded subtitles. MX Player renders it fine though. So even thought I get artifacts on MX Player when playing 10bit MKV or 1080p MKV animes, I stick with it. Yes I messed with the settings on those other players.
Well I'm getting issues with Dice not wanting to open files with DTS audio. If I open the video through file manager and choose Dice, it'll play the video no problem but no audio. If I try to open inside Dice, it crashes. Vplayer works with audio, but drops frames even if I choose 'hardware acceleration' I'll try mx and see if that works.
EDIT:
Nope, MX won't play the audio either. It at least shows me that their is an audio track, and that the audio is DTS track, but it won't play it. Any suggestions besides transcoding the audio?
i believe it was when MX player got updated to 1.6 that they removed the DTS codec. If you never had problems before they removed the codec and prefer mx player just google MX player apk X.XX and find the version with the codec in it. I would tell you the website to go to, but it's a no no on XDA.

Hey thanks!! Downloaded 1.5a and bam! DTS playback is perfect! Thanks again!
FYI
Dice version 2.0.5 also has DTS intact. You can find it somewhere on google, and plays HD files better in my opinion.
The latest version of MX Player that still supports DTS audio is 1.6f, and for Dice Player it's 2.0.6.
I've heard these versions are incompatible with Jelly Bean, so it looks like we'll have to find a new solution once the update comes out. (likely switching to BS Player)
I've always been an advocate of Dice, and with the majority of my stuff in Xvid or more recently, mp4, all stashed on a server that was smb shared, it worked a treat.
However, I've never been able to get HD mkvs above 720p to play well, and even those had the occasional laggy or jerky moment. I always put that down to network speed, though.
However, I've just tried the latest BS Player and all I can say is wow. It has just played all of my 1080p stuff over the LAN without breaking a sweat.
I am jumping ship. Very recommended.
