[Q] How can I get GoogleApps - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, after I flashed CyanogenMod 7.1 on my HTC Desire, I'm not able to install the GMail App.
Sure, I flashed the CM "gapps" extension to install the market but in Germany, the GMail App isn't available via Market, because an other company holds the trademark "Gmail" here.
The Market Enabler / Unlocker Apps aren't functional since Market 3.4.
So I could download a ROM which includes the GMail App, extract it and flash it via ADB. Right?!
But now I got the question where the ROM maintainers download the actual GoogleApps. I would do this step too, maybe build it from source but I haven't found an answer yet.
Can someone help me?
Bye

You can get Google apps from the cyanogen wiki... Just search it

Yes, there is the gapps zip I mentioned above. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps
But the CM7 version doesn't install GMail, only the Market, where non-german users can download GMail. And the older versions are outdated.
Or have you mean another page?

You can also flash it straight from ROM Manager.

You mean the extracted GMail.apk?!
Ok, but the question remains where the ROM maintainers download the actual GoogleApps.

There is no single source. The apk's get ripped from Official ROMs etc, as they are released and then packaged up for gapps zips.
Ask somebody in the Desire sub forums to up their Gmail apk for you, or find an unofficial Gapps package that includes Gmail. There are some about.

Ok, thanks.

Ok, I tried to install a Gmai.apk I extracted from another ROM.
First it was on my SD-Card and a file manager should install it, but the installation process failed.
Then I tried adb.
Code:
./adb install ./Gmail.apk
1272 KB/s (1797271 bytes in 1.379s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Gmail.apk
Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]
The App isn't signed?! What can I do now?

[UNOFFICIAL] [ROM] Sera's CM7 Builds - Trackball wake!

Hello everyone,
similar to the other developers (fitsnugly and nazforex) I've been working on CM7 Builds for the N1.
Mainly I've been doing this to learn building Android.
Flashing this may brick your device and there is no support from either Cyanogen and his crew or me. You do this on your own responsibility.
This build is not final - it's more an alpha build. If you decide you shouldn't care about bugs.
What's different in this build?
It containts the ringtones / notifications from the Nexus S
I removed the File Manager, Magic Smoke Wallpaper, Microbes, PinyinIME and OpenWnn
This contains the Gapps
Trackball wake (unmerged from CM7 git)
Some files were moved to /data/app
gps.conf was modifed for better reception in europe - Americans just edit the file and use north-america instead europe
Some changes to the build.prop
Donate
I'll release a new build when some important modifications have been made.
You can see the current CyanogenMod changelog here: http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#q,status:merged,n,z
You can flash both via recovery:
You can download the ROM here: http://wp10556497.wp249.webpack.hosteurope.de/builds/update-11-01-2011.zip
The HBOOT 0.35 is located here: http://alternate-coding.com/temp/hboot.zip
Always good to have the choice. thanks
Hi, i didn't get any answer on android-hilfe.de so i may ask you here again.
Does your CM7 build requires to be flashed with Clockwork recovery in order to have the changing icons working (icons change from grey to green...)?
I'm asking because fitsnugly's gapps only work properly with CW recovery.
Thx

Cool thanks. But does the Market work for you and does this ROM have the "losing cell network"-bug when the display goes off?

[GAPPS] [UPDATED] [Android 2.3.5 GB] 07/25

Credit goes to BrwnSuperman for finding these and then I took them and put them in a cwm flashable zip. So, I figured I would post this in the Development section (Mods feel free to move it if you see fit) since many of us are on mtd roms and most of these roms have been updated to the new 2.3.5 Android code. Here are the updated 2.3.5 GB gapps: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?67t2077vf4q3zd6 Included are the new gtalk, new car home, new market, updated google search, and all the rest of the little system service apps etc. that can't be downloaded from the market. All (I think) updated to 2.3.5. Flash from cwm recovery and enjoy.
Edit: here is a mirror as it was reported that there was a problem with the mediafire link: http://www.multiupload.com/Q184Q5YS09

curious
just noticed that i have not installed GAPPS since i first came on board on the 07/04 build, i also installed the new market..not sure if that has anything to do with it......so has anyone else installed the new market and from there havent had any issues? running the 07/28 build....and still the new market works...
Can't Google apps be updated via the market...I flashed the one listed in the OP of the CM7 thread, but have updated through the market, so are these newer than that?
Also, if I am on CM7 7/18 winch is Android 2.3.4...would flashing this screw up something?

Well, I know google talk can't be updated through the market and yes, these are the gapps that came from the nexus 2.3.5 code release earlier this week. All the little google services apps are updated as well, not just the main apps. You can just wipe cache/dalvik and flash these but you might have to erase the old ones manually.
Can I remove some of the apk that I am not going to use in the gapps.zip?
Just installed on latest CM7 (not the nightly), runs good. I've been wanting this new gtalk, if only it could be updated via the market. Thanks thanks

So I hope I am not the only one with this issue, but when I flash it either on CM7 or JTs AOSP 2.3.5 rom, after I select what apps I want, the loading just keeps spinning and spinning until I rotate the screen, then I select to install, then it keeps spinning again until I rotate back, and I have to do that with EVERY app during the initial app installs, and this was also after a complete wipe of DATA, cache and Dalvik

There isn't any Google login for cm7.2

You must install the correct gapps (Google Apps) package alongside any Cyanogenmod ROM (and most other community-built ROMs). This includes the framework for associating your device to your Google account, Gmail, Market, etc.
You should be able to find the correct gapps package through ROM Manager or http://goo-inside.me/gapps

Please do your research before opening a new thread. It is a well known and commonly post fact that CM based roms don't include any Google apps.
Glad you got it sorted out though.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10 Error while installing apps

Hi there. I installed Cyanogenmod 10 ROM to my Vibrant yesterday, and everything seems fine so far excepto for one thing: there seem to be certain apps that i can't install, such as ColorNotes, Angry Birds or even Google Maps. They download fine, but never get to finish installing, this is the message I get: "Unknown error code during installation of the application: "-24" "
Cyanogenmod 10.1 version: 10.1 - 20130118 - NIGHTLY - vibrantmtd
Compilation number: cm_vibrantmtd-userdebug 4.2.1 JOP40D ENG..20130118.042937 test-keys
Kernel: 3.0.54-geedcf0c [email protected] #1
Thanks for your help.
Oh, by the way: how can I change my cellphone name? You know, from SGS-T959 to BADASS or something,

! I have no idea if they are 3rd party. This is the file name: gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip
Would that be the problem?
You need to install Gapps 20121011 JB file Ive found out the hard way that the wrong Gapp file affects the successful install even though they technically shouldn't matter. But nun the less, after trying different gapp files Ive come to know which one runs with the ROM it needs
for example CM10.1 needs the 20121211 gapps file where as CM 10.0 needs 20121011

Ya sometimes it may happen. Either download the gapps suggested by the developer or check the version of android rom and the download the respective gapp. It will solve the issue. Or just post the reply. I will guide u.

An easy way to get it back is to find a Google Apps package that has the AOSP messaging app and then extract the apk from the .zip file and manually install it or to install SMS Messaging from the Play Store which is the AOSP messaging app.
