Post ICS update: No issues, better performance - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I read through the other threads regarding various issues with the recent ICS update.
Am I the only one who DOESN't have issues? I installed the update about an hour ago, without wiping application data/cache or a factory reset, and I have tons of apps installed, including Google+.
Performance for me all around is much better. Has anyone else had the same experience?

No issues for me either.

After using for most of the morning i feel like battery life is less robust. Down to 85% with really only moderate use for a couple of hours. Was way better on Honeycomb. Will give it a few days and see if things even out before i draw any conclusions though.

no issues here either, aside from me losing root and being too lazy to downgrade to redo it.
it's much much faster, and turning on the 2d gpu accel in the settings has made it seem even faster than when it first booted on ics.
browsing through stock browser is fluid and fast, no typing lag (!!!) and the UI is much improved.
very happy overall.
oh yea, and i really like the black hole lwp.

No issues that I can see. Either ICS or the camera firmware update really impved my camera function. Overall all seems much zippier. The default Android browser seems MUCH better - enough that I uninstalled Dolphin. Love the one-touch task closer widget.
Two thumbs up.

No you aren't the only one, people usually post about problems more then people without any problems.

This. In fact look into the thread with the poll from the people who updated to ICS. Most people are happy with it.

Yes stock browser is faster but however Opera Mobile still seems to be faster in some aspects.I can't even see how to add a bookmark in stock browser. It was there at 1st but haven't seen the option lately.Dolphin is OK but now with the stock browser & Opera,I no longer need Dolphin.

No issues here either. Everything works so much smoother! I've yet to enable 2D acceleration, so I'm going to try that once I get home. (I know it's only for pre-ICS apps that are not enable by default)

I tried it but some apps wont work with it enabled. The Revision 3 app will hang on the loading screen for example. It does make other apps very smooth though a bit buggy.

no issues, in fact I am dictating this message using the new google voice keyboard in real time. the whole operation of the tablet just seems so much more polished and smoother. It's definitely faster, for example, tapping the applications switch button instantaneously brings up thumbnails of all the running applications.
Wow, is truly an enjoyable device to use. Kudos to Asus for getting the update out... Certainly pulled it together a lot faster than a lot of the other big corporations.

Mine is definately running much smoother and quicker. Haven't had any issues. I'm still playing with settings and, also lost my root and am too lazy to downgrade to get it back. I'm very happy with ICS. Having the folders created by combining icons is probably my favorite feature so far.

I just got my prime today, so I rooted, updated, and re-rooted. I have no reference to how it was on HC except for the few minutes spent rooting
But ICS seems pretty good so far. GTA3 and minecraft work great!

Can opera browser now play youtube/flash video's? On the one I had it would only play the sound, but no video.

I got two freezes and reboots already, one inside Folder Organizer and second browsing all apps. But everything else is smooth and faster.

Mines flying like a bat out of hell no issues so far where do you get the split keyboard?

I still have to try out different sites but so far No. right after I updated to ICS last night there was an immediate update for adobe flash 11. it seems tl make flash in stock and dolphin HD browser slot better n smoother. still testing out opera mobile.
People messing around with developer settings that don't really know what its doing is asking for trouble. you might load up an app or something that don't agree with what you enabled and BAM, the Prime locks up..lmfao

Mine has been unplugged for just under 8 hours and I'm at 38%. I'd say it is definitely draining the battery more... but it is a bit too early to tell. All I did today was surf the web, snapped a few pictures, tried out the photo editing, and played a video for 2 minutes.
Overall the tablet is MUCH snappier and responsive! The stock browser amazed me as well! I love the clarify of the new font that was introduced in ICS.... it was a much needed change.

As far as OP goes, device runs better n faster than ever. I only have one gripe. ICS has seemed tl nerf 3rd. party tethering apps like Wireless tether or Barnacle. Wireless tether app is an infrastructure method of tethering but now the prime doesn't even recognize it. of you use wifi analyzer, the tether will show up as an ad hoc network instead, which its not. plus when youbteybto connect from there, it says Ad hoc not supported by Android yet.

Just got another reboot surfing the web thru Dolphin.

[Q] Transformer Prime Concerns?

Transformer Prime: Not sure if some of these issues are only isolated to me or everyone experiencing these :
1. I added my gmail and I have about 2k photos on there. When I open Gallery it takes like almost 10 mins to sync. The gallery in general seems to be very slow. Anyone else?
2. At times the screen starts jumping. The only way to fix this is restarting the tablet.
3. The browser is very slow sometimes. Comparing to my phone and computers.it takes almost twice as long.
I have an ipad1 and I'm an android maniac, I really want to love this tablet but every day there seems to be another issue poping up. I'm sure CES will announce some more quadcores soon, I'm in love with android and I like TP but I am starting to reconsider holding on to this since I still have another week to return it. What to do....?
Yeah, the Android Gallery is kinda of sucky and slow, but its not a Prime problem since its that way on nearly all Android Devices. I hope ICS improves this.
The stock browser is also a little sluggish, but I heard this is a known problem in Honeycomb. Once again ICS will hopefully be an improvement.
I have not had any screen jumping. There was an issue with the ASUS boot logo jumping around during boot, but the last firmware fixed that. However, doesn't sound like that was the problem you have described.
You may want to contact ASUS on this, or exchange it. It should definitely not have the display going funky.
Other than the screen issue, you might want to hang onto the Prime until ICS goes out. Honeycomb was a half-baked release anyway caused by manufacturers complaining to Google about not having an iPad competitor version of Android.

Search for the browser thread where the OP lists a few tweaks to make to the browser through the debug menu. I swear, it makes it like a completely different browser. It's completely smooth. That thread should really be stickied, if you ask me.
mine does none of that with the exception of the sometimes slow browser but to be honest i think that has more to do with my network and whats getting priory at the time since sometimes it's really fast and other times it's very slow, i downloaded a few torrents directly on to it and all went well and was as fast as expected, also netflix doesn't stumble at all either which makes me think the tablet is good but more of a problem with my bandwidth......800 meg movie file took about 10 mins on my 30/30 home connection with other computers running torrents and streaming netflix on the smart tv, so heavy network usage at the time.
but no shaking of the screen or other issues, and pic gallery's load fine after the initial visit, make sure you have your caching turned on in your browser and that your not downloading 2k thumbnails every time you visit the site, or at the very least i'll just say this sounds like a settings issue as opposed to something wrong with the tablet from the factory, maybe also set it up where it only sync's every so often or something, not sure how your setup works but you shouldn't need to be downloading 2k worth of thumbnails and/or pics everytime you log on to something, play with your settings and see what you can come up with....also snych'ing porn always take x3's as long unless your pretty quick if you know what i mean....lol j/k
that said, this is just my experience in the last 4 days i've had this tablet and spent about 6-8 hours a day on it so far.............feels well built in the hand to me so i don;t expect any defects to start showing up from nowhere that aren't related to software in someway or another.

mine was less smooth to me after the tweaks so i reverted back to default settings and seemed fine again, my understand was the tweaks only helped the responsiveness during the loading of a new page, i could be wrong but that's how i read it, regardless give the new settings a shot , worst case you just revert back like i did.
also play with the synch settings in your gmail account.
those tweaks don't work for everyone. plus it gets reset everytime that browser shuts down. then you have to do that stuff all over again. Opera mobile is your best bet. even with those tweaks, people who tried it said it can't compare to opera mobile. only drawback is flash is sketchy on opera till it gets updated.

Interesting. I'm not sure why they don't work for everyone, but they work great for me. The OP updated his original post after he saw he gave the wrong settings at first, so if you haven't visited that thread in a while, it might be worth checking out again.
Also, my settings do not revert every time the browser is closed. The Debug menu disappears, and I have to type about:debug to access the debug settings again, but when I go in there, my changed settings show up as being saved.
And the settings don't just increase the speed of loading my pages. It makes pinching and zooming, as well as scrolling, much more smooth.
All of this will be moot next week anyway once ICS is rolled out

right, i wish everyone would quit judging this thing till ICS comes out, i get the GPS rants as that won't improve with ICS, but 90% of other complaints should be addressed by ICS, it's just sucks waiting, but doesn't suck as bad as having no TF201 in my hands all together..better to have a prime with gingerbread now and get an update the no prime all together, the only way i'll be disappointed is if CES unvailes another tablet with the same specs but more ram and it ships in the next 2 weeks, lol, don't see that happening, so i'm sticking with mine..
return it and wait for something better next month.
and then wait for something else even better the month after that, and then the month after that.
price/performance (unless GPS w/o wifi is a huge concern for you) there is nothing out there in the near future that will be better than the prime.
the gen1 tablets have shown that asus offers the best bang for the buck.
also, if you want the dock experience, there is nothing that competes. not even the glorious touchpad. :|

Exactly on the tweaks. I gave up on that with the Xoom long ago. Face it, the Honeycomb browser stinks period. You want the best (not perfect) experience, go with Opera until ICS comes out. Flash? I have to actually say that Steve Jobs was right on this one. If that is important to you, try to get over it because it is going away. Opera does work with Flash but I do not know what the limitations are.

[Q] System sluggishness, lag.

Hey there all,
I was wondering... my Tablet S device is quite sluggish, delays between swipes, opening & closing programs, typing etc.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I tried reformatting 3 or 4 times to no avail.
Latest version of the Honeycomb OTA update 3.2.1.
Also, flash on the web is ridiculously slow and causes extreme slowdown. For e.g. on the Youtube website, the flash applet itself causes lag when activated (Using Opera Mobile) and I can only watch up to 480p. Anything above that lags and is unwatchable --- I remember reading that this is due to the hardware limitations of the Tegra 2 chip.
Anyhoo,
If anyone has any ideas or just helpful tips on how to make the device run smoother, could you let me know? I bought this device two days ago and am regretting it hard atm hahah. My phone (Gala SII feels so much smoother/responsive than this tablet)
Thanks all.
Well mate I dont have any experience like that, in fact this is the smoothest experience for me yet (i have a evo 3d )
But I noticed some lag when we have a LWP in use, remove that first and try,
And that LWP lag is gone after I flashed UK FW from AiO tool by condi. maybe you should do the same

Oh?
My Tablet S is experiencing some sluggishness too.
Is the UK firmware better than the US firmware? Why did you flash it anyway?
Have you tried using an alternative launcher like ADW EX? The stock Home launcher from Sony is pretty poor. If you drag slow enough to make the preview windows appear at the top of the screen, the frame rate drops significantly. Always found the swipes incredibly responsive otherwise.
I've got a nice performance boost from rooting, then using AdFree and Overclock Widget.

Can't go above 1 Ghz, but you can set it and raise the minimum clock speed to get some more juice out of it. Might help the OP with some sluggishness during basic use.
I have no such problem at all with my tablet s wifi version, even when tethering with my iphone.
Why dont you take it back to the shop and make a complaint?
Thanks to everyone that replied with all those helpful comments.
I have tried everything, standard wallpaper. Format. Rooted.
Hmm maybe it is just my device?
BT keyboard input is really delayed for example. WiFi works due to that workaround (WiFi Locker app) I found using search, though I can't give much praise to the signal strength!
I just assumed the Tablet S was meant to be a bit sluggish (ref: CNET review and others: most say the tablet is a bit sluggish)
Ho dang, unfortunately I can't take it back for repair as I purchased it from eBay! x)
Maybe it's a hardware fault, a certain part(s) aren't working at optimum speeds/levels. I'll try taking it into a service center anyway.
Oh, and i'll try that Overclock widget!
Will report back with findings.
Thanks guys.

I have similar issue. The only solution I'd suggest:
(1) Get a cache remover like "1 Tap Cleaner Free" to remove cache. Cache can be very big ('00MB) in a few weeks.
(2) Get a task watch/killer, to find if there are any resident apps that keep reading activities/data of the tablet. You may then use the killer to kill them or uninstall them. (Frankly, many of those apps available in Play Store are susceptible. They might just want to get something from the user. So sorry that I could have no recommendation. But installing one and remove it afterwards may be fine.)
(3) Sometimes, a simple reboot helps.
Mine is working alright, though not terrific, and is having other issues to resolve. Taking back for service is always the last resort.

[Q] Transformer prime laggy

After listening to all good remarks, I finally got a hold of this tablet. This being a quad core tablet, I assumed it should be fast. But to my surprise, it was actually not a really great experience. Things lagged every now and then. And it seems to be even worse when browsing. I tried alternative browsers but they all seem to be the same. Even Chrome Beta!

As far as I am aware the IO scheduling is not really what it ought to be with the Prime, with regards to browser lag though, I have switched plugins to on-demand in the stock browser settings and that helps a bit.
Some beta testers of the soon to be released firmware are reporting major improvements across the board, so hopefully you won't have long to wait.
Which version of the ASUS firmware are you on? Just out of curiosity.
This is not a question though. If you are having lagging issues; you could try to do a cold reset. This may help out as it has with others. The browser on the other hand has been an ongoing issue. You can help this by installing adblock, use opera, turn flash to on demand, or use the browser2ram tweak here on xda. There should be an update to help also sooner or later.

The Chrome Beta is known to cause the browser lag. Even it just being installed and you're using a different browser.
Uninstall chrome beta. Uninstall flash and reinstall flash.
Try opera mobile. It's been the best for me so far. I definitely have no browser lag, but did when chrome was installed. Same on my gtablet running an ICS rom.

Hmm, okay will try.
I have noticed occasional lag on my Prime from time to time most often while using the browser. Asus has indicated that it might be a problem with nV Flash and that it will be resolved in the next update. I guess we'll see. Really the occasional lag is my only complaint with the Prime, but it doesn't stop me from saying my experience is mostly positive.

Try AndroWook's ROM. The thing is fantastic; especially the newest version based on the TF300 JB base. It's slick as slick can be and takes the stuttering right out it.

Jellybean Vs ICS

I've been waiting to see how this Jelly Bean update is working out for people. I'm unlocked and rooted very close to jumping in.My biggest gripes has been the browser ANR's and sub par Wifi. However I'm good with my Prime for the most part...Which is why I've been reluctant to flash new any of the latest Jelly Bean Roms. I'm aware I can NFlash and revert back ((I think) but prefer to get the feedback anyways.
I know there's a few forums about what people think since the update but this thread is basically to see who updated to Jelly Bean and wished they stayed on ICS because they have new issues, or just hasn't noticed much of a difference. Moderators feel free to fix anything I may have missed since its a poll.
Thanks
I had many many browser ANRs on ICS and after moving to CM10 they are all gone . As you are unlocked I think you should try it by yourself if it fits you (do nvflash before just in case). Wifi seems to me unchanged (ie not better).
Sent from my Transformer Prime
My Prime never had that much problems to begin with, but sometimes I had some ANR and my Wifi didnt download stuff fast and sometimes disconnected, but rarely. Since JB I never got ANR and in the beginning I was getting some reboot, I still have an issue with my ADW Launcher it was working correctly before update, but now sometimes icons are weirdly displayed, but I blame them cause now its listed as incompatible and before it was listed compatible with the Prime. Yesterday I installed Bards Tale and downloaded the 3.5 Gig version and the download of tha additional data was very fast.
SO overall my tablet is better with JB
I'm not fully satisfied with the actual upgrade process as it bricked my Prime. But I am satisfied with Asus RMA service who fixed it very quickly (at no charge).
JB itself seems slightly snappier, but not significantly so. Also what I'm seeing may be more the factory reset and less the actual Project Butter. And it feels like they slightly shortened some animation times (something I already did on some phones before, by using Settings -> Development options), which of course makes it feel slightly faster. Google Now is a bit lackluster so far, but it's not something I intended to use anyway. Voice-based keyboard is a nice touch, and great that it works offline, but more gimmicky than useful to me.
There's nothing really wrong with it so far though. In that regard, I'm satisfied with the update and don't need ICS back. However, judging from the lack of real improvements, I think I'm not going to update my S3 to JB any day soon - I'm not missing out on anything really, and don't want to risk any compatibility issues.

My Prime on JB is way faster. But, JB on my S3 is amazing. So smooth. I'm running AOKP and i dont regret it.
I appreciate this. Especially since I had forgot where I had read somewhere else about some of the apps aren't compatible..Yet. Overall per the poll though I, MOST ppl are happy with the update. I'm considering figuring out how to flash this NVflash to be able to give this a shot and revert back if I'm not happy. I actually flashed CM10 art 1 point but didnt like the fact it didnt stream audio via HDMI.
I also just read the WIFI Tether is not working with Transformer Prime? Is this true for anyone else..That would be a deal breaker for me. I like having WIFI wherever I bring the tablet.
Keep the feedback coming!

Wifi tether does work with jellybean I use it when I'm out to play the shadow gun beta you have to have internet connection.
I absolutely hate the JB update After flashing and doing the factory reset, there is noticable sluggishness on the launcher and app drawer without forcing GPU rendering. Feel like the whole point of "Project Butter" is that it should just work.
The onscreen keyboard responsiveness is awful and a huge step back from ICS. I'm no longer able to touch type quickly as trying to do so on JB will result in many missed characters. I became proficient at typing on the keyboard, I shouldn't have to step back in order to just be able to type words without missing characters.
Losing the ability to use my synched bookmarks from Chrome is a pain in the neck.
Game performance is hugely impacted by JB on the Prime. GTA3 is pretty much unplayable on JB!
Looking now into unlocking and flashing to an ICS rom as I feel like my tablet is now in the worst state it's ever been. The stability of the browser is great don't get me wrong but for all of the functionality I've essentially lost to get that, it just isn't worth it.
My prime experience with jelly bean has been great. Not perfect, but in comparison to ICS, it has been great
Well, when I updated to JB with a locked bootloader and lost root, JB wasn't all that great: still some ANRs and a lot of lag. I just recently unlocked, regained root, and installed all my mods: since then JB really is a godsend. Browser is ridiculously quick and scrolling is unbelievable (browser2ram). Overall feel is definitely improved.
Biggest gripe is the HDMI out got porked, and the backspace issue isn't fun either. But dear lord it's so much smoother than ICS (all my animations are set to .5x), in all respects. Still lags when installing apps, but doesn't come to a halt like ICS.

good info! Also seems ppl are more happy with the update by the poll. I guess I've been paranoid for nothing. Although I can also see why it may still be a good idea to have NVFlash.

Same boat. Thanks for the thread.
no doubt, JB is better (especially HB)

[Q] Laggy, choppy scrolling

Have a stock DNA and I've noticed laggy or choppy scrolling in apps such as Facebook, Instagram, even browsing the web. Is this related to Sense or a setting in the DNA?
I came from a Google Galaxy Nexus previously and didn't have this bug...the scrolling on that phone was very smooth and continuous.
have you installed anything that could be slowing it down, My DNA is far smoother than any phone ive used before, including a galaxy nexus.
You could try checking the gpu rendering option in the developer options and see if that helps
The phone will get laggy if it overheats. Is the phone hot?
Sense?

Sense is sapping resources?

Hmm...I don't have anything abnormal installed and I'm fully stock. Also, the device never gets hot (even when my GNex did.)
I suppose I could do a factory reset and try installing apps one at a time to find out if anything is slowing it down but that seems like such a PITA considering this is a quad-core phone w/ 2GB ram.
I was hoping someone else could confirm that their DNA was doing the same thing. =/

I've been having choppy scrolling in settings, trying to find what can be adjusted to make it stop showing black spots when scolling fast. But not having any lag per se.
I too have somewhat choppy scrolling in a few apps (news apps in particular). Stock also and nothing in settings or apps I have seems to affect it, nor does the heat of the device. Got a replacement phone after 3 weeks for a different problem and reinstalled everything slowly, checking to see if anything affected this issue. Nothing did. Cannot read articles as fast as on prior phones because of this, but have just adjusted my scrolling/reading habits.
Yeah it seems to be a problem sadly. In terms of loading speed and such the phone fairs fine, its just choppy as hell, I don't get it. Htc really dropped the ball on this one, with an s4 pro there's no excuse for this kind of performance. As far as I can tell its a mix of poor engineering and sense. You could probably fix the home screen choppiness with another launcher, as far as apps go....I have no clue :/

I'm really thinking twice bout this phone because of these issues with lag and choppy scrolling. It doesn't feel this bad on my gs3 and is none existent on the nexus 4. I might try out the note 2 after this I really love this screen compared to the nexus 4
Droid DNA
This device is much smoother than any device I have owned and that includes the SGS3 which I currently own. The only time I see lag are in 3rd party apps which need to be updated for our device

I second this. Even with the occassionally choppy scrolling in some apps (only a few on my phone, mind you), I still love how fast and smooth the DNA performs generally speaking and would not trade it for a other device currently on market. I think some of this will get better as apps are updated for our device.

Third. It's an on and off kind of thing that seems to vary from app to app. Skype scrolling lags like a mofo but USA Today and Opera have no problem whatsoever.
I have over 30+ apps installed and I got Facebook, Instagram and YouTube in the background and my phone still doesn't lag...maybe you got a defective device...don't bash the phone because you are having problems with it. Go get a replacement.

I love how everyone blames every little problem on the chance its a defective device. For the love of Christ we're talking about scrolling here, its a software issue, its not POSSIBLE for that to change on its own. Seriously, its not defective. My device lags on stock launcher with NOTHING installed. It just takes the right widget and app placement on the home screen. I'll gladly take a video of the phone lagging on scrolling after a FULL wipe if you really want me to. But frankly I don't need to because it's a well discussed issue and I don't need to take my time proving a problem that's already been brought up so many times. Seriously, go on Google and type in 'htc dna choppiness'. Accept the fact the HTC made a mistake (and everyone does, just in different ways) and move on.

If your device is lagging on the launcher then something is wrong, that is NOT normal. I can make a video of me opening up every app known to man on my phone then scrolling on my widget invested homescreen with no lag, but I don't have to because just like almost everyone else with a DNA, there isn't lag.

Like I said I have ton of apps and mind does not lag.

No lag/choppiness for me either. I've been multitasking most of the day today too, music, fb, instagram, forum apps etc. It's super smooth.
Only place I noticed choppiness is scrolling side to side in play music
Maybe some of the apps just need to be updated to work correctly with 1080p

I'd appreciate it, if you don't mind.
My DNA is about the smoothest Android phone I've owned, and I've owned a LOT of 'em.
I don't doubt you, but I would like to see the lag....
Thanks for the offer!

x2. Would love to see a video because at the moment, I'm streaming pandora, using a forum app/FB and going through NFL mobile and I'm getting no lag...
This is honestly smoother than my iPhone 4 was...and we all know how fluid iOS can be.
