[Q] Contacts showing wrong in messages - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i have a problem with my contacts!!!
After i flashed checkrom (i did a full wipe, and made sure all my date on my internal sdcard was wiped) everything went perfectly and i was very happy!
But after sending a message, i noticed something strange!! When i go to messages, it doesnt show the contact that is synced with my google account with picture and full name, but shows the contact that is stored on my sim without picture and without the full name (because sim has max ammount of characters in a name)
Does anyone know how to get my google contacts back?
I only show my google contacts in 'contacts' and that works fine
here are 2 screenshots:

ps: i also have no idea why it shows anny jans' google account and the rest sim
just to be clear: I am syncing with both facebook and google. And the problem is not in contacts, but in messages.

I had the EXACT same problem. I ended up deleting all contacts from my SIM card, since with Android, you can sync your contacts to your Google account. That way, the only place the Messaging app can pull contact info is from your Google account.
Just make sure you sync your contacts to your Google account FIRST, before deleting all contacts from your SIM card.
This is only an issue if you plan on going from an Android phone to a non-Android phone, but at worst, you have to manually re-enter all your contact info into your new phone. It will always exist in "the cloud" with your Google account.

i think i fixed it, i first deleted all my sim contacts, than i deleted my facebook account (so all those contacts are gone, they dont need to be on my sim) and then i moved all mmy google contacts back to sim contacts!!
now they are on my sim and i see the correct names, lets hope it stays

First time rooting. Problems with contacts

I just rooted my stock 2.1 hero, and plashed froyo FusionRom on it. Before I root, I installed an application from the market that will backup my contacts as a .csv file. now how do i load my contacts again? I tried importing them to my gmail account and then syncing my phone to google contacts, but i still don't see any contacts appearing. The strange thing is when I call/get a call from someone who used to be in my contacts list, his name appears in the Call Log tab. But not in the contacts tab???
So how do people who flash many roms deal with this problem?? I mean I can insert the contacts manually by creating a contact and filling their phone numbers one by one (all 255 of them) but that doesn't look like something I want to do each time i load a new rom.

Google contacts syncs all mine down from the cloud every time
So you put them into gmail, now go into google contacts on your PC and see if you can see them there. If so, check the settings on your google account in your phone's settings menu, and be sure it's syncing contacts to the phone from that account.
You can open a .csv with any spreadsheet application (i.e. excel) - just add them to your gmail contacts online and they'll sync up.

contacts

ok when i go in to edit any of my contacts on my photon it is showing google contacts then under that it shows phone contacts Unsynced. it use to never show this way on any contacts. It use to just show google contacts which is what i want to use. because the phone contacts thing shows the same as the google contacts. is there any way to get ride of all the phone contacts unsynced with out having to edit all 200+ contacts?
Also what is the difference between the two?
Also its showing the addresses twice now as well, is there any way to fix that or is that part of the google contacts/phone contacts unsynced problem?
You have some contacts saved on your phone storage, but they are not synced with your Google account and may not be there. If you have them all on your Google account also, just remove them all from the unsynced storage with a batch delete app.
If you don't have them on your Google account, go to the phone contacts and export them to your sdcard. Then import them from the sdcard into Google contacts. Now, once you're sure you have those contacts on your Google account, if you still have the "phone contacts unsynced", delete them using a batch delete app. But first make sure you have them on your Google contacts.
Let us know how it goes.
Have a nice day!
I just ended up doing a reset through the recovery option and it fixed it. Thanks for the help.

[Q] Managing contacts

I have all of my contacts stored in gmail contacts online.
In the course of trying to tidy up contacts on my phone, deleting duplicate/unnecessary info and 'joining' multiple accounts (mostly gmail, facebook and whatsapp) I had a bit of a Homer Simpson moment managed to delete all of my contacts (D'Oh!!).
Fortunately, as I said above I have them in gmail contacts online and had also exported them to my SD card as a vcard and so have managed to get them back (albeit having to tidy them up again).
Here's the thing though, when I go to the Contacts menu item 'Contacts to display' the contacts show when All Contacts or Gmail account are selected, but when I select Phone contacts in 'Contacts to display' the list is empty.
How do I move/copy my gmail contacts so that they are held in the actual phone memory and displayed if I opt to display Phone contacts only (i.e. no longer link to my gmail contacts)?
Cheers in advance,
Rich
I think what you need to is to sync your contact again. Contact to display is only show if your phone have a contact that is available in your gmail contact only.
copy contacts to phone only

I think you've misunderstood my original question. I have got the contacts visible when I view all contacts or view gmail contacts, but there is an option in the contacts menu to view contacts on phone only (i.e. not those stored in gmail contacts). When I use that option I don't see any of my contacts. Therefore, what I need to be able to do is copy the contacts across from gmail contacts so they are visible in the phone contacts only view, but I can't figure out how to copy them across to the phone.
Never had to do it on either my s2 or s3 before. I did do it on my old HTC via a menu option along the lines of 'Copy contacts to phone' but there isn't a menu option like that on the s3 unless I'm missing something obvious.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers.

How can I make contacts from sim not visible in Android?

Hello,
I customized the display contacts to not show any contacts from SIM, and all my contacts have also been copied to Google contacts. No no contacts should be visible from the sim, however when I search, they are visible. Indeed I got an SMS from somebody that's merged to like 4 accounts including google, google+, facebook etc and my phone still showed that it was received from the contacts on my SIM card!
Now I can't delete my sim contacts (obviously that would be the simpliest solution), however obviously I can't because if my Android phone dies in any possible way, I need to be able to access my numbers from a simple phone...
This is so annoying, because the sim contacts are uncustomized and have a wrong name, so I really want to use the google contact instead of my sim contacts...

How to salvage contacts from phone after closing Google account?

Hi all..
So I had a Google account register with my old msn email, but I decided to delete this Google account and register for a new one with Gmail, thinking that my contacts are preserved on my phone, but I switched off Sync function just in case. Somehow though, my contacts got removed from Contacts app. but they are still on the phone cause if I run the dialer app and punch in the first few numbers of any phone number that I remember, the app offers contacts suggestions, and I find the name and number of the contact I'm trying to call.
How can I get these contacts back and store them again on Contacts app?

I'd try another Contacts app like Go or exDialer and see if they show up there. If so, you should be able to export them via Vcard and then go back to the main Contact app and import it. If that doesn't work, it might be helpful to list which phone you have and on what update it's on in case there is something more specific to that phone/update that might need to be done.
