Desktop Docking Cradle - Dell Venue

I bought two of these desktop cradles for my & my wifes Venue phones: http://www.ebay.com/itm/110731141083
They work great, build quality is superb, though my Incipio shell had to be removed for it to fit. Most importantly, the packaging and the cradle itself indicate they are for the Galaxy S II and Optimus series phones.
Seems to me that knowing that our Venue models use the same cradles as the Galaxy S II and LG Optiums opens up more possiblities.

Great to know. I have a SGSII too - so it will work with both I guess

It's not really as much as 'fitted for the venue' as much as it is simply 'fits any device with a micro-usb port'
Unfortunately the primary downside to something like this is there's no back for it, and even if there was it wouldnt fit it very well. There's always the risk of falling or slipping or something onto it and snapping the connector on the phone.

can use with otter box case?

I would guess it wouldn't fit. It says not compatible with Venue Pro which is about the same thickness as Venue with an Otterbox case. However, I could be wrong.

I bought one of those and thought so much of it that I threw it away. It wasn't even good enough to give away.
There is no support for the back of the phone. The USB connector ends up holding the phone. Not a good setup IMO.

Sounds like the slacker radio dock for the s5, except that it's
1) in landscape so that's already a lot
2) the dock connector is much wider
I only use it as a backup as there's always the fear of falling on it and it snapping or something, or even hitting it by accident.

Found this car mount for the G1. As opposed to the universal ones which are significantly bulkier and honestly dont look that good. This one is sleek and will let you open the G1 to keyboard mode without undocking he phone.
I've ordered it. I'll let you know in a few weeks
Any updated?
This thing looks great and cheap!
Nope. Thats the downfall with getting things from HK off Ebay. Takes forever.
I will post a review maybe take some pictures. I really hope it lets me open the screen and use it full out.

Both of those are a custom fit for the G1, but notice the design of them. You can't use the car charger while the phone is in the mount. The 'clip' is covering the charger port.
This one is designed to allow you to charge the G1 while it is in the mount:

Do you own this? I assume you can open the G1 while its in the holder? And is it sturdy/work well? Held in place alright and whatnot?

I don't own one 'yet' because the site says it will be available around 12/30. Looking at the pic, it doesn't seem to interfere with the operation of the phone... meaning you can still slide it open as well as charge it.
I've decided to make a 'temporary' dock for my G1 until the one above is available. I used the back portion of a clear cover that I had laying around. I figured I would put it to some use since I had it!
Here are a few pics:
I got this one to use in my car and love it! Charger fits in and it can be rotated in any direction. Plus you can move it from car to car without messy window rings. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UGMTKC/ref=oss_T15_product

That was a great idea. I got the cheap one off ebay and the cover does block the charge port. I am going to do a little dremel tooling on it to see if I can make it better. If not I will buy a couple of the cheap cases off ebay and try your mod.
The Ebay one also completely blocks the speaker. I will cut a hole for that too.

You can never go wrong with a dremel tool!! I didn't know that those ebay holders cover up the speaker too. It kinda makes the phone useless while its in there. I got the idea for the one I made off the proclip website. Rather than spending $30 bucks for theirs, I just made my own! I popped the trim off from around the heater/radio and used 3M double sided tape to secure the metal bracket that I bent to shape. Then used another piece of 3M to secure the back portion of the clear cover to the bracket. Of course, I put the 'Dual' sticker on there just for kicks!!!
I got myself a ProClip G1 mount.

It is a little pricey but the build quality is great and has a swivel mount. And yes you can open the screen and access the keyboard while mounted. Only downside (besides the price) is that you have to remove the rubber dust cover from the mini-USB charging port on the G1/Dream. I was kind of ticked off when I found this out after ordering it but I have been without it for quite a while now and haven't had any problems. I usually carry this G1 in my pocket and sometimes on my holster (when my work G1 isn't on me).

So I didn't see anyone comment on this yet. But I went ahead and bought this due to the decent price and what appeared to be the ability to open it while mounted.
So the answer is definitely "yes" to everything I wanted from it.
Yes, it does allow you to open the screen while mounted.
Yes, the clip does hold the phone very well and it is pretty easy to put and remove the phone with one hand.
Yes, you can plug in a charger while mounted and you don't have to remove the little charger door to use it.
Yes, there is a hole in the back so the speaker/camera is exposed so I guess you could record video, or take pictures while driving if that is something you wanted to do. Also, the microphone on the bottom is not blocked in case you want to just use speakerphone while mounted.
Yes, it feels very solid and well made. It says it "Made in Germany" on all of the parts which makes me feel good. "The German's make good stuff!"
Yes, The body clip itself does come off the arm so you could in theory use this for a different phone assuming you can get just the body clip online.
No, you cannot use this with anything other then a regular sized battery/door. (hopefully this was obvious)
Overall, for $20-$25 (depending on shipping), this is an awesome mount for your G1. I haven't actually tried mounting it on my window yet but the big suction cup (~3 inches wide) with the pull lever thing look like they will work great.

I order this one and finally got it.
It doesn't seem to fit in the way the picture is. The picture shows the "big" tab at the bottom. The problem with this is that it covers the hole for the charger. Also for me it doesn't quite fit so the top tab doesn't clip on to anything and doesn't hold the phone.
If I put it in upside down then the small tab doesn't cover the hole for the charger and it seems to fit nice an snug. But when it is in upside down you can no longer slide it open as the bigger tab is clipped onto the front. That is no big deal for me any ways as I don't plan on opening it while it is in the holder in the car.
the perfect mount/ who needs a navigation system
I also went to g1depo.com and got the windshield mount, it arrived four days early and yes to all the major questions. Opening capability, charger connection, speakerphone/camera hole, and it is also sturdy and well made "German" to be exact. and only 25.00 with shipping. Winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

$6 shipped and it fits the G1 perfectly (yes I actually have one). It's a universal design so it's plenty adjustable. Even if it's not as pretty as some it does the job for a fraction of the price.

thats nice and everything, wonderful price...but uuhh...its intended purpose are for navigation devices, although it may have no problem holding, I don't think it would allow all of the g1 usage in dock such as rotating landscape/portrait, opening/closing keyboard, charging with dual 3.5 headset jack/usb extention.
Are there any good carmounts that fit a g1 with the extended battery back cover?

[Q] Vehicle Mount Help

Anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with vehicle mounts for their samsung galaxy sII i777?
I'm looking for one that will fit with my Case Mate Tough Case on (Excellent case btw, I highly recommend)
From what I can see the samsung mount doesn't work with cases. I'd like one that can at least cleanly route the audio and charging cable to it. But ideally it would have it's own connectors and be permanently plugged into my car. I'd like to just sit down and dock my phone in it and go.
Is there anything out there just like the samsung mount that will work with the case on? This is the samsung mount I'm referring to:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-ECS-V...UE22/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1321380855&sr=8-3
I'm in the same boat as you are. My 3gs had this from Belkin.
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Tuneba..._1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1321389164&sr=1-2
Looking for a mount that will do the same.
I'm really hoping someone can shed some light on this.
Maybe there are some decent universal ones out there that can be recommended?
Took forever to find it but here's the one I got:
ebay.com/itm/Platinum-MobileDock-Dash-Windshield-Suction-Mount-UUM10BB-Universal-MP3-Player-/140633919502?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item20be6f500e
Been an awesome mount. Bought back in July. For a few weeks it was in my glove box and the pad was not even close to being sticky. Washed it up and it's back to like new sticky.
With the opening between the two rest points on the bottom the power cord fits perfectly.
Stays on the windshield and dashboard with no issues.
And with as small as the support arm is, it moves very little from bumps in the road.

ExoGear Mount
There is another thread on this, but I picked this one up at amazon for $18. Awesome mount, holds any phone. While it doesn't have a connection it will hold any phone anywhere with or without a case.
http://www.exogear.com/products-exomount-car-mount-holder.html
these mounts fit a sgs2 with an otterbox commmuter case on it
http://www.slipgripcarmounts.com/Using-Commuter-Case_c_21890.html
don't know if it will fit the tough case. I haven't used the mount before
I did buy one for my naked captivate and it worked great. I burned through 3 universal car mounts before I got the slip grip for my captivate
I bought a universal one from walmart for $15. Sits on the dashboard and adjust the holder itself to fit the phone. Used the google navi on the phone while traveling from the Jersey shore to Buffalo NY and back and didn't have a single problem.
The device never popped out nor did the actual unit move.
This is the one that I am looking at.
Mounts in the CD slot of your radio... of course if you change out CDs often this may not be the best for you.
I don't change CDs that often so I think it will be ideal.
What you all think?

I believe the at&t version charges at .7 amps or something. My Griffin Technology 1 Amp PowerJolt Dual Micro would be bad for my phone because I was gonna parter it with the ExoGear Universal ExoMount for driving. Would that kill my battery? This looked good till I saw the 2.1 amps. http://www.amazon.com/Potato-Techno...Android/dp/tech-data/B004NQDU5E/ref=de_a_smtd
Check out the mounts by ProClip. They are not cheap but are well made. I have a similar one to this link below that I bought several years ago for my old ipod. I still use it and have since upgraded to the ipod touch. Now will be replacing that with the SG2. Works great. However since mine is older there is quite a bit of space between the back of the holder and the phone. I simply added a piece of the foam insert you typically get when buying a phone case. Works great and now the phone/itouch doesn't tilt back.

It will be fine as that is the Max amperage that the charger can support. The phones hardware charging system limits current.

Need case recommendation

Looking for recommendations for a case for my gtab with built in keyboard. I think I prefer USB over bluetooth cause I am not sure of the bluetooth capabilities of some of the custom ROMs. I am currently running clems beast ROM. Thoughts anyone?
Hi there. So this is the one I own, and it is GREAT! Matter of fact, me and 4 other people in my research group all use this case with our G-tablet for our lab computers. The case is great, the keyboard works great and its USB so you can easily plug and unplug whenever you wish. The case can even fold completely around to use as a basic tablet. And the kickstand sets up the tablet at a great angle for typing
The only negatives I can tell you if you want to hear them are as follows. I'm not sure if its still a problem, but back in the day when I got my case, one of the 4 metal tabs that held the tablet in place was accidentally placed over the USB port and you had to cut a hole in it to make sure it would fit in. It wasn't a big deal and took a minute to cut a hole out, but I heard it was an accident and why we got ours so cheap and its since been fixed. The only other negative is that the keyboard is like 90% the size of a normal keyboard so you just have to get used to the smaller size.
Overall the pros of this case significantly out weigh the negatives and I recommend this case highly. I actually just bought a G-Tablet for my mother for christmas so she can have a Honeycomb tablet as well, and bought this case for her to.
Here's the link, hope it works out for you: http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-G-Tablet-Case-Keyboard-Stand/dp/B004JF9N1O

Have a try www.electroniccrap.com there are many accessories for GTAB
I actually ordered this case, but it sounds like it is a little different than the one you got. None of my ports is blocked. The case and keyboard are sufficient. The tabs do not really keep the tablet in place securely. I was able to get around that by putting velcro on the back of the tab and the the case. Also the usb cord really has no place to go, when not in use. Again i fixed that with some simple velcro. All in all this is a good case for $30.

The Air Dock: What works with it for you?

Hey everyone,
Just received my Air Dock in the mail and I've had mixed results using my Galaxy Note 3 with it. So rather than buying more cases and QI adapters, throwing stuff at the wall hoping something sticks, I thought we could all band together to find the best setup. This should be a thread for people to post their experiences and post links to the cases and wireless charging adapters they are using with the Air Dock and their GN3.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Air Dock, it's a new Indiegogo backed vehicle mount that employs nano-suction and QI wireless charging. It essentially uses a bunch of tiny suction cups (and some magnets apparently) to bond to your phone with out needing any kinds of harnesses or clips. The only issue seems to be that this tech requires some specific stuff to function well. The back of the phone needs to be high gloss plastic for it to stick well and it can't be too thick (i think .8mm is the max for it to still charge). For phones with matte backs (like the Nexus 5) magnets are an option.
Here is the link to the website and plenty of videos and pictures for those who don't know about it: TheAirDock.com
Ok, so I'll start with my setup and experience and hopefully others will follow along to find the best combination of accessories to get the most out of this dock.
Phone: Black Galaxy Note 3 (Verizon)
-I tried it on the dock with no case and while it holds, I'm not very confident in it. I think it may be the texture of the soft touch back. Also there seems to be magnets in it, which I'm not sure there were supposed to be but they are responding to something in the phone
Case: Black Cruzerlite Hybrid Case for Samsung Galaxy Note 3
-Same deal, it sticks to it but it's not inspiring confidence. It's not a high gloss back, so that's probably the issue (bought it well before the Air Dock). The dock also comes with a magnet sticker to place between the case and phone, and that helps but I haven't been able to get it to register a charge at all with the case on.
QI adapter: Wireless Qi Power Receiver Car Charger NFC For Samsung Note 3 N9000 N9005 BC279
-I think this is the part that has created the biggest issue. It's only ever recognized the charger a handful of times, with and without the back cover on. And even when it recognizes it, it just flashes the "now wireless charging" dealy and then goes back to discharging immediately. I know that the adapter works because it charges fine on my desktop QI charging pad.

Not exactly. If i put it on there with no case and like 15 degrees of back lean it holds decently. The backplate isn't as glossy as it needs to be to hold securely though. It's capable of it, they've shown it holding the various Nexus tablets.
That's kind of what this thread is about, trying to find out the best combination of accessories to make this thing work correctly.

i'm still waiting on my airdock, but regarding the QI receiver insert charging/discharging deal, have you tried to rotate the airdock 90 degrees? I've ran across QI chargers where orientation matters.

Hmm. I think that's worth a shot. The dock is weird in that the ball joint faces a specific direction, which is different than the prototypes I saw. And if what you say is true, mounting it on the windshield would make the dock upside down. I'll give that a go when I go to my car in the AM.

an easier way is to not move the dock, and just rotate your phone 90 degrees (vertical vs. horizontal), and see if that helps with the wireless charging.

The receiver you have is not a very good one, its rather weak, i had to add another ferrite or flexi magnet to it so that most of my other transmitter can detect it, but if nfc is a must, you have no choice.

Would also like to report back on the docks performance today. I had my phone on it (in the case) all day with just a small amount of back lean. It held strong on the drive to and from bwork. I also went for some drinks after work and it held strong to and from along a fairly bumpy road. I still want to find a glossy back case but my confidence is growing in the nano suction as is.
I also wanted to report that I put my old Galaxy S1 in it (only phone I have with a glossy back) and it held just like it does in the videos.

Hi Guys,
Just to know if I'm the only one experiencing difficulties with my airdock :
I received my items 2 days ago (I have 2 as a friend also ordered one) and test them with 2 Nexus 4 :
Concerning the suction, it's definitily very very good with the N4 and no case, clearly, no risk to have the phone fall while driving !
So, that was the good news ...
The bad one is that the charging is very unreliable on both airdock pads, but with differents effects :
On the first one, it's very difficult for it to be seen charging by the phone, but when it does, it work for several minutes ... and stop working without apparent reasons ...
On the second one, I experiment the same kind of symptoms as described in the first post : the wireless charging is only seen by the phone for something like 1/2s, and then it's off ...
That's quite a disppointment as otherwise, it holds the phone just fine in the car and I found it very convenient. I hope I was just unlucky with mines, or maybe they suffer from transport (the package shows no evidence of it yet ...).
I contacted Greg, the guy from theAirdock.com to have his advices on the matter, but no answer so far ... I was wondering if I'm the only experimenting those issues ?

You're not the only one, I had similar issues with my Note 3 (actually why I started this thread). I ended up contacting Greg as well and he recommended I purchase a Qi adapter from their site, which did make it function much more reliably. It's acceptable in my opinion at this point but I'm still not 100% sure it's going to charge or stay charging anytime I set it on the AirDock.
Bad news is, my solution isn't really an option with the N4 since (i believe) the wireless charging is built in. I do believe that the Qi charger in the AirDock is generally weak though since I tried about 3 different Qi adapters before finally buying the one from the AirDock site that worked. Otherwise it would do exactly what yours is doing (got both of the things you described with different adapters). I would say try to exchange your docks.
Something that works for me sometimes if it doesn't start charging right away is to unplug the USB cable from the lighter socket side and plug it back in. Also be sure that you are plugged into the 2.1A socket that it comes with, as i found it won't work with the standard 1A plugs most people have laying around.
I really love the concept of the AirDock and I'm glad I backed it but the build quality is certainly suspect. Mine is starting to fall apart after only a few months (the suction pad part is starting to separate from the housing, i can only assume because of how the phone has to be pulled to remove). I think this is par for the course with beta hardware though. Fortunately, customer service was very accommodating in my experience. Hope you're as fortunate.
Yep, actually, I found the thread on the N5 forum after I put my post here. And there indeed seems to be a few complaints with it
I had ne feedback from Greg sincemy email yesterday, but I figure they may be quite busy those days as many people seems to be receiving them.
Well, I hope he will provide a solution, because, for one of the two, with the same symptoms as yours, I can believe it's a problem with positionning, but for the other, the phone start charging for a few minutes and, without it moving, stops ... To me it sounds more like a loose contact somewhere inside the airdock ...
Well, wait'n see, they say ...
I will keep you posted of Greg's answer ..
Any word on how this works with the Note 3's stock "leather" textured back? Is a case required for it to stay?
Also, has anybody tried it with the Samsung brand wireless charger cover? The Air Dock website suggests that the Samsung brand cover is the best wireless charger receiver available; even better than the ones that Air Dock sells.
do you use the Magnetic Sticker?
For the original poster, how did things work out for you in the end? I have a Nexus 5 and it works extremely well with the AirDock because of the smooth back and also because of the magnets. I'm thinking of going to the Note 4. On the AirDock site it does say the textured back of the Note may not stick too well so they recommend using the magnetic sticker. I have one that come with my AirDock and can't imagine putting that on the back of the phone case. I expect it would be pretty damn ugly.

I thought for sure I had already posted this response. I ended up getting an AirDock and the OEM Samsung Wireless charging cover for my Note 3. It's been a good setup. I'm not using the ugly sticker. The magnets in the AirDock seem to hold on to some metal in the wireless cover. It isn't as good as a smooth backed device, but it works for the most part. I'm glad I bought it.
That's good to know. Thanks for replying. One way to get a smoother back and increase the adhesion on the AirDock while avoiding the thickness of a case is to get a vinyl wrap although I'm not sure how they would go with the Samsung wireless back since it looks like the shape especially around the camera is slightly different. I have a D-Brand skin on my Nexus 5 and I really love it and it makes the back even smoother. I just got a Note 4 yesterday and have ordered a third-party Qi receiver coil so I'll see how that goes first. Looks like SlickWraps has some nice vinyl skins for the Note 3 and 4.
Also want to report that yesterday I tried my Note 4 with the AirDock using the standard back. At first it did not adhere at all. However I noticed that surface of my AirDock charging pad was pretty dusty. For my Nexus 5 I had been relying mostly on the magnets to hold the phone there. So I cleaned the AirDock with a bit of water as they recommend and the Note 4 holds very securely now. I think if I add a vinyl skin or a very thin case I think it would be even more secure.

Desktop and in car docking

Anyone have any nice finding on desktop and in car docking? Other than a brodit active charging cradle I couldn't find anything similar, would like to find something similar to hold the phone up higher a bit than leave it in the center pocket or have it stuck to the windscreen or air vent. Thanks
no body drive here? that cant be true, maybe you happy with any kind of car holders, I like one tht made to fit, so now I'm making my own, 3D Printed, with cutout for camera button, which isn't really needed
I just use a holder that goes into the CD player since I never use it. You want a stand that also works when it's on your desk? Why?
I don't know about other colour of this phone, but I have the one that's like a mirror and it slides around way to easily and I prefer to it to be on a charging dock, I will be designing a holder to add on to the cradle to hold the charge cable so I don't have to pick up the cable and plug it in anymore, just slot the phone in, I made mine to click on air vent
I have the chrome one as well, and I don't use a case or anything, unfortunately I don't even have a screen protector on it right now either. I use this in the car: Exogear Exomount. This works really well in the car, but obviously it won't work for you on your desk. There are lots of holders like this one though that have grips, my phone never slips out of this one.
That looks nice and neat, but I don't need to buy one now after designing and printing my own, just making a addon to hold the charging cable so when I slot the phone in, the cable plugs in like the brodit active charging cradle but doesn't cost me 65euro plus shipping, more like 2euro and few hours drawing in CAD , I will be designing a desktop one as well that also holds the charge cable, I made one for the z5 and was very handy, this phone is terrible for sliding around but it's a brilliant phone to use even with everything stock, the 3D creator is amazingly good too, all other scanner I tried were awful
P.s. I haven't use any sort of protective cover on my phone's since the z1, don't actually need it, and never even scratch a single screen for years, let's hope it stays this way in saying that, this xz premium has slide off the desk I don't know how many times, at least few times a day, but not a mark on it thank God
