From Tmo S2 forums. need some opinions - HTC Amaze 4G

i might be trading my s2 for a amaze. can u guys tell me the goods of this phone? whats it better than s2? i dont want "just cuz you have a amaze u like it better". i want some real reasons ha.
is ics coming to this phone ota? or custom rom?
build quality?
battery life?

I was debating between the two when I updated, and I went with the amaze. Felt better, looked better, better camera/video, and I liked the screen better. Screen seemed smoother too. Only thing I don't like about it is the battery, it really does lose out in that category.
overall though, I liked the amaze better.

how about ics? whens that coming for amaze?

read an article some mfg's are bringing updates out very soon. depends who your provider is

im tmobile. you think ics will come out?
and r there any other things amaze has over the s2?

The phones are virtually identical in terms of hardware. The S2 will benchmark a bit better because of its lighter operating system but in terms of real world use, they're both fast phones.
You just have to ask yourself whether you prefer Sense or TouchWiz. Otherwise, go to a T-Mobile store and try playing with an Amaze and decide for yourself whether or not you like its build, how it feels, which screen you prefer, how important the camera is to you, etc.
Additionally, this phone may or may not ever attain S=off, so although flashing new roms is not difficult at all if you read, it is not as straightforward as it is with other devices.
In terms of an official ICS update, it's supposedly releasing early this year:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/htc-announces-specifics-on-ice-cream-sandwich-upgrades/

I had the amaze for a couple weeks and now the s2 I can tell you its just a matter of personal preference. I preferred what the amaze has to offer over the s2, camera mainly so now I'm trying to find someone to trade with the s2 is a good phone a lot of people choose it over the amaze but to me the things it offers like screen, being thin, tw aren't what I want.

i saw buy a externel sdcard thats the best there only like 10 bucks for 4gbs

Well I'm coming off the HD2 so it's like taking a big leap and in lots of ways the Amaze is just a better piece of hardware. One of the things I do miss is the phenomenal development that went on in the HD2, you name it and someone was working on it. I really like MIUI but so far it's not been ported.
I cant complain about the work here, damn these guys are good and the ROMS are incredible. I'm using the latest from Xboarder and cant think of anything that doesn't work and work well. Even the battery is good & lasts about the whole day with some pretty heavy road warrior usage. One thing I did was pick up the Anker battery and charger off Amazon, for $18 you get the charger and 2 batteries, I never worry about running out of juice, it's a good system.
I'm an HTC guy, I looked at the S2 but just liked the amaze better but it's a personal preference, they are both solid phones. I push this thing in ways I never thought possible and it just works.

I'd not say the Amaze is going to blow your mind if you're coming from an S2 but HTC pays a lot of attention to detail and it really shows in this device.
The build quality, camera and Sense are all very refined and make for a rather polished device. Go for it

thanks ha. well is htc going to push out ics for amaze first then samsung?

Thinking of picking this up too. I had 3-4 S2s and the screen issue is what killed it for me.
What are some options of extending the battery life via better roms/kernels? I know the synergy kernel for the s2 (t989) was amazing.
If the battery life is bad, I'd rather just wait for the next thing.

I have both the Samsung Galaxy SII and the amaze. Both are practically the same. I prefer HTC Sense over Samsung TouchWiz. The battery life is quite bad on the Amaze, the SII definitely has a better life. However, the resolution the galaxy is horrible for its size. Overall, both are great phones, it comes down to the UI.

I gave up my sensation for the sg2 because I thought I had to have the sg2. As soon as I got home I was already disappointed. Could not get over how blue the screen was. The size was awesome but size is nothing if the color is poor. Touchwiz is gay, go buy a iPhone if you like it. Sg2 felt cheap too. Being my sensation was sold, I exchanged for amaze. Htc just plain and simple makes great phones. Coming from the sensation to the amaze was kind of a let down. Phone isn't any better except the camera and dedicated shutter button. The fact of no development with the amaze makes it rather boring. Waiting on ics.

Everything on the software side of the SGS2 (blue tint screen, TouchWiz sucking) could've been fixed on XDA.

I can't stand the 480x800 resolution on that 4.52in screen.... Also, it felt too light (SGSII)...
I have both the Amaze and the Sensation and I love them both. The Sensation has tons of ROMs and development. The Amaze has less development atm BUT the work that xboarder does IS OUTSTANDING. Plus, the camera is very nice.

Not to make you feel bad, but my teen daughter (14 years old), got a 16gb class 8 microSD as soon as she completed her small house chor. She needed the extra space so bad for storing the songs she wanted to carry around, and I was in a good mood for spending the few bucks it cost me.
In any case, you can do everything you're asking for without an sdcard. Go visit the [FAQ] or the [How to Root] threads and see for yourself.
By the way, I did buy both SG2S and the Amaze on the day it came out, and I am letting my wife use the SG2S. She thinks exactly the opposit. I feel lucky that she didn't chose the Amaze!!

I'm surprised your wife likes the SGS2, most females I know hate the phone or any with similar dimensions due to the phone being "too big" for their girly ass hands. Plus they're addicted to BBM anyways (ugh, BlackBerry)
The Amaze looks manlier in my opinon anyways

[Q] Rezound or Galaxy Nexus?

With the recent leaks about the Galaxy Nexus being delayed, I have thought about purchasing the Rezound. What are your guys initial opinions on it? Do you regret purchasing it? What is your main gripe? Also, does the device have a locked bootloader?

Already did, don't be an asshole.
Yes. I would highly recommend it. The only thing the GNex has that this doesn't is instant root, and NFC. We will get S-Off soon, and then can flash ICS roms, and to be honest, how much do you really see yourself using NFC? I got mine on launch and love it. My only gripe is VZW's 4G is down right now (Nationwide Outage). I constantly get 42Mb/s download speed on it. But in the end, it all comes down to what you like the most. AOSP, or Sense. Samsung, or HTC. I personally love Sense, and many of the devs from the original Incredible came here also, so it was a no brainer.
Rezound has a better screen. It's so clean and clear, it is amazing.
I love this phone, but then I have nothing to compare it to never having used a smartphone before. I researched for the last 8 months, constantly changing which phone I was going to buy (incredible, tbolt, evo 3d, sgs2..) and I'm glad I got this one.
I love sense so HTC is a plus for me.
Poke around the forum and check all the threads. Loads of comments all over the place.
verizon g nex won't have NFC actually(at least not stock).
both phones are comperable, just that the GN does not have microSD support but it does have a slightly bigger screen.
additionally, Rezound has a better camera & of course its biggest selling point.... "Beats By Dre". w0rd

really??? There have been many threads started already on this topic. Walk your lazy ass down to the verizon store when the nexus gets released (if ever) and play with both of them. We know nothing about you and your needs.
Rezound is the hands down winner. The Dev's who got their hands on it, coupled with reports of the bloat, lack of Google Wallet for Isis, etc have made me turn my head further from even considering the Nexus a viable option even as a warranty replacement device if the option ever arose. I would kick the CSR through the phone if that happened.

Thought this question seemed familiar . Honestly in the end it would be best for you to just try them out both and see what you like. I'm happy with the Rezound it's hands down the smoothest phone I've used. Even with all bloat and stock launcher, I've recenly debloated and de-sensed and have like 500 MB of RAM free upon reboot or when I end apps w/ go launcher. Couldn't be happier with this phones performance, build quality, and most importantly the call quality. I've never been impressed with any Sammy phones for call quality or build quality, cheap plastic and tinny sounds.
I have had my Rezound since launch and have to say its an extremely nice phone. I am in the lucky position to be able to have a Rezound and also be able to get the GNex when it comes out. But without it being in my hands I would say the Rezound is by far the king of the Android phones for now. On the plus side: First, 16GB built-in and a 16GB micro SD card which is expandable to 32 for a grand total of 48GB. Second, best screen out and is better than the GNex. Third, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor (also at the top of the market). I could go on but you get the point. The plus side of the GNex is that it is Google's "phone". Google likes to save all of their newest/best technology for the Nexus line. So that basically guarantees updates and most of all a development community. I am definitely excited for the GNex but the Rezound is definitely a solid phone that will not disappoint.

how are we supposed to compare??? We don't have the nexus either. How about asking people who have tested both devices? Like Android central, engadget, the verge.
Though all will say the galaxy nexus is superior based on it being vanilla android.
Nexus lacks expandable storage, has a lower camera and less ppi on the screen. I don't like samsung products, so it has to blow away a htc phone for me to get it. My rezound has 46gb of storage, and is here now.
Yeah, expandable storage. It's even more than advertised. I saw a post in accessories where someone put in a 64gb card and the Rezound formatted it and it's working. So 80gb total. Pretty sweet.
See the multi-quote button? It is usable you know?
I wouldn't recommended the Rezound until the bootloader has been unlocked. Clearly it will have to be unofficial since Verizon decided to cockblock the official unlocking.
I got the Rezound shortly after it came out and will be exchanging it for the Galaxy Nexus when it arrives. The Rezound is good (much better than my aging Nexus One) but I don't care for HTC Sense and want a Google Experience phone. Not a fan of the Rezound's locked bootloader either. As for Google Wallet on the Nexus, it will likely work after rooting. See: http://gigaom.com/mobile/galaxy-nexus-and-google-wallet-my-first-nfc-purchase/
I went from the Blackberry Bold 9700 -> OG Evo -> Evo 3D -> Rezound. To give you my history. My girlfriend has a Captivate (the retarded cousin of the SGS line). I've used all of these extensively.
Obviously the Rezound is the best one. I honestly wasn't expecting a huge difference in performance between the Rezound and E3D, I wasn't sure that the extra .3ghz/core would make up for the pixel count difference. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. Again, obviously, best performance I've seen out of a phone. If you don't like Sense then use a different launcher. Yeah it's heavier on resources but I have yet to use a single app, play a single game, etc. and notice any lag whatsoever. This is, serisously, not an exaggeration.
On the other hand, I currently have Team Hacksung's alpha ICS port on my girlfriend's captivate (build 7.1) and it is gorgeous and snappy. Surprisingly snappy. Not that I am at all jealous of her hardware, but I now seriously want ICS on my Rezound. And my Touchpad. However, I am willing to wait.
All it comes down to, in my opinion, are these three things: Do you like Samoled more than SuperLCD? Do you like Samsung phones in general? (If you've used one you know what I'm talking about - thin and light, yes, but to the point of feeling like a happy meal toy). Can you wait a few weeks/maybe months for s-off/a good ICS port for Rezound?
And, beyond that, which feels better to you in general? Wait until the Nex hits the store and go pick one up. The one that feels better in your hand and that you like looking at more is the one for you.
Also, check out the Rezound's camera software. The HDR backlight mode and low light mode are killer.
Them's my thoughts, anyway.

That's pretty much what they're saying for the Nexus that it's "superior" because of ICS. Imo the hardware on the Nexus isn't as high quality as it could be. Pentile matrix for the amoled screen, plastic casing, sub par camera, external speaker lacking in volume. In the end it's personal preference.

I love my Rezound, I consider it the best phone/smartphone I have ever owned, and I am 45 and have owned a helluva lot of phones.
Am I a bit disappointed by no S-off yet? Not really, it will happen one day. I've been keeping busy rooting other phones lol. I rooted my wifes Thunderbolt and installed 5hift AOSP for her yesterday. Today I rooted my father in laws new HTC DInc2, and installed CM7 for him. His phone was a bit more work as I had to downgrade GB 2.3.4 to 2.3.3, and had to downgrade the hboot also.
Is the Galaxy Nexus a great phone? No, not in my opinion. I have never liked Samsung phones. They feel cheap, and their SAMOLED screens have always looked cartoonish to me.
I'll stand by my Rezound, root/s-off or not . The Rezound does so many things so well. I really can't find anything I don't like about my Rezound!

[Q] Did I really mess up by getting an Amaze 4g?

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I'm happy to finally become a member of this community after shedding my buggy LG touchscreen phone.
I got this Amaze 4g on Monday at the T-Mobile store since they had very limited phone stock and the sales reps highly recommended it since they had dropped its price to the same as the SGS2. This is my first smartphone but I'm now disappointed to find out that the Galaxy S2 has much more dev support and is a bit better for gaming and power-using. I keep seeing youtube videos that hail the Amaze 4g as the winner in most if not all head to head reviews.
I'm now contemplating returning this for a Galaxy S2 since gaming is a big part of my spare time, but I'd have to pay a damn $50 restocking fee. Is the Galaxy S2 that much better to justify paying the $50? Am I really missing a lot?
I would love to hear more from gamers using the Amaze 4g. Most reviews of heavy games on the Market like Modern Combat 3 and Dead Space have reviews of SGS2 users, and I could find no Amaze 4g users among the reviews. I'm not really much of a picture taker, so the camera on the Amaze isn't something I would miss too much. I'm not looking to start a flame war or anything of the sort. I just want to make sure that I have a capable phone to play these games before I buy them.
They have the same processor so gaming shouldn't be too different performance wise.
The reason your seeing more reviews for the galaxy s 2 is because the gs2 is a more popular phone world wide compared to the amaze.
I work for tmobile and the most popular phone people ask for is the gs2, maybe due to proper ads by Samsung where HTC kinda stopped with advertising their flagship phones since they roll out a new one every month.
So don't worry, u got urself an amazing phone!

Hey.. leak out some kernels and phone info so we can grow the development...
Just stick a usb in.. copy, paste, and no one will ever know.
Just get a Galaxy S2 and feel good about it.
It's your choice not mine and if you don't feel like just get a right one for you.
You are stuck with this phone for Maximum 2 years.
Get a phone you want to use for 2 years.
I am a bit of a heavy user on my phone when it comes to games, all i use my phone for is games, facebook, text, and some other things xD haha. that said, i havent recieved my Amaze yet BUT i played Deadspace and Eternal Legacy (big game, over 1GB) on my Sensation and they ran butter smooth. now with the CPU underclocked and less RAM it would obviously not run as smooth as the Amaze.. the sgs ii will run just as smooth as the amaze in games. they have the same CPU/GPU/amount of RAM.
I'll vouch for this, I had the SGSII for a week and I hated every minute of it...the resolution is lower even though its a amoled screen, I don't think the colors are even that much better to be honest, the blacks are just darker, thats all.....I hated everything about it, the camera, how big it was, how big everything on it was...I did a direct sunlight test, and HTC IS better even though they advertise that super amoled is better, its BS. it has more dev support becauses samsung doesn't put as much restrictions on their phones as HTC does. That's the reason.
Camera is immensly better on the HTC. I absolutely hate Touchwiz, where as Sense seems much better.
Its ultimately your choice
Just to be clear when you're talking GS2 are you talking the GS2X with the Snapdragon or S2 with Samsung's more powerful Exynos processor?
Either way the Amaze has the upper hand in terms of resolution and Camera, keyboard if you're using stock Sense keyboard vs TouchWiz IMO. Game play goes to the Amaze if you're comparing Snapdragon's but if you're looking at the Exynos I'd give gaming to Sammy.

Love my Amaze, although I don't like the feel in my hand. My hands aren't that big so the curved back makes it difficult to hold it tightly.
Actually wished it was squared off more, like the SGS2, but it's a minor issue.
Held the DROID RAZR and that thing holds very nicely, but no removable battery (and not being on T-Mobile) kills it for me.
Overall, very satisfied with my Amaze, although it took installing LauncherPro & disabling a bunch of preinstalled apps using ADB using ZergRush 1-Click Temp Root.
I love the amaze as well.
Did a lot of researching before picking one up, but so far it's been worth it (other than battery life, and possible video recording issues.). Got a nice score of 1057 on Vellamo, so I'm plenty happy about performance. In terms of hardware specs, it's pretty much one of the high end ones, with a balance of storage and features. (Unlike a couple of other options out there.)
Hasn't locked up/random reboot on me yet!
Of course, I came from the Motorola xt720 (extremely buggy at times), which was my first android device. So my experience isn't as great as some others.
Currently on stock ROM, but it's unlocked and rooted. Just waiting for a nice stable ICS build to come along!
I came from an SGS1 and I loved that phone, especially since it had so much development. To be completely honest, if WIND Mobile had the SGS2, not a single doubt in my mind that I would've gotten that handset instead of the Amaze, simply because the SGS2 is leaps and bounds ahead of the Amaze in terms of custom ROMs and whatnot.
That being said, I still love my Amaze because it is by no means a bad phone. It's just a lot newer than the SGS2 and it's a shame that HTC is making it harder for developers to get into coding for the Amaze.
I love HTC I guess you could say I'm a fanboy so take this with a grain of salt. My friend has the Samsung C(r)aptivate and my mom the Samsung Galaxy Tab (1st gen), and when ever I upgrade either one I f**k it up in some way or another, because for some reason I always have to go back to stock before I do anything but having an HTC I forget this. I don't know about the SGSII since I've never rooted/flashed one but I love my HTC Amaze it should be better than the SGSII by a bit since it is clocked faster stock, however SGSII have an accelerated internet browser so it is a bit faster in web browsing. So all in all it is looks, feel and preference. I love the heft of this phone and the way it feels in my hand, Sense is the best interface other than AOSP although it is a bit heavy, IMO TouchWiz is garbage. So they are pretty damn similar phone (unless it is the SGSII Hercules which is exactly the same). As mentioned before Samsung has better development since it is a joke to root it and have no Nand lock etc...

My 2cents worth, the Amaze has only been out a few months, the Devs are working on it, so custom roms are slow coming out. Personally I really like the Amaze, and have never had a Sammy, so can't say on that. Finally it's all up to you and your preferences.
You my good sir did not mess up... The amaze is waaaayyyyyy better than that sgs2. First, just look at how the amaze is made compared to the same old plastic on the sgs. Second, the camera, don't even get me started, this phone has the best camera I've ever owned to be honest, I don't buy expensive cameras, infact I've only owned one camera. Third, there is more developement on sgs2 because its pretty obvious, Samsung has managed to put their galaxy line in the mainstream, popular enough to be competing head on with the iPhone. And remember that HTC doesn't release their phones the same way everytime, they change how their phones are made every few models, take a look at the sgs line and its pretty much the same. Also the amaze has a qhd screen, the sgs has has a 480p screen if I'm not mistaken, and when I look at the sgs it looks all pixaleted if you know what I mean. And finally, the dev here is still in its baby steps, its all about patience.
And as for gaming, my experience has been great, I've been playing gta3 with no fcs no lag, I've also played asphalt 6 and worked awesome.

Plus, the Amaze is one of the few to receive the ICS update (hopefully this month). And once that drops, I believe development for the Amaze will pick up substantially.

someone mentioned that the gs2 has lower clock speed, i think for the original one.. yes. but the tmobile hercules t989 it has the same clock speed.
anyways, there's too much exaggeration that the tmobile gs2 development is light years ahead of us. they do have a few devs, but they're not light years ahead of us. a lot of their devs are leaving, and its mostly just tweaked touchwiz, like how ours is tweaked sense. Yeah there are some asop roms, but don't think by having a gs2, you'll be flashing roms like crazy.. because you're not (yet).
I've had the amaze for 2 months before switching over to the gs2. Don't get me wrong, the amaze is a beautiful and fast phone with the better camera... much better. The only thing that bothered me is the battery life. the battery life is simply okay.. this could be fixed by running something other than sense or having a spare or two (one should be enough). but yes sense kills the battery. if it wasn't for the battery life, i would still be using the amaze.
listen to everyone else about the screen. the washed out screen isn't as bad as it sounds. you won't notice it at all when playing games. i played games on both phones. the amaze will give you more details and it will pop out more with more accurate colors. like i said on one of my breakdowns of the two phones.. if you're a gamer, you would want to go with the amaze simply because the games look better. functionality is the same for both phones. You're gonna kill your battery playing games on either so buy a spare anker and you're good to go.
As far as gaming the amaze is pretty bad as far as touch screen compared to the SGS2. i noticed this on few games that my buddy at work(who has t-mo sgs2) informed me about where multi touch gets faulty the more you play or longer you go with out rebooting you phone. This is not the case on his galaxy.
few games that come to mind are jelly defense, jet car stunts, flick golf, also on GTA3.
Well, I'm happy to hear more people have been gaming on the Amaze 4g. I've downloaded Zenonia 3 and Dead on Arrival and they make my phone's left side of the screen really hot. Yesterday whenever I would quit Zenonia 3 and go to the Task Manager, the phone would lock up and do a restart. It did this consistently 3 times! On the last time it switched off the mobile network by itself which was very frustrating.
I find the Amaze to be a bit laggy when navigating menus, especially regarding the touch-screen's feedback. I have yet to take a pictture with this greaest of cameras. Can Sesnse be removed? I just would love to know if this will get better but it is more of a gamble than anything. I hope when ICS comes out things get better. If the T-Mobile store doesn't get a SGS2 by next monday I'll have to stick with the Amaze.
Thank you all so much for the comments and advice.
I did a lot of soul searching when I was deciding on SG2 or Amaze.
What I like in the Amaze:
1) Camera buttons
2) Notification Light
3) Better form factor, SG2 feels too wide and square (personal preference)
4) Higher resolution
5) Solid/higher quality build perception
What I like from SG2 is:
1) AMOLED screen
2) Better battery life out of the box
3) Better benchmarks (bragging rights but doesn't translate into better everyday use)
4) Lighter feel
5) Better brand recognition
I initially ended up with the Amaze because they were out of SG2. I don't regret it after comparing it with two of my friends with SG2. I can still return the Amaze but I guess I'll keep it. The only thing I hate so far with the Amaze is the softkeys light bleeds onto the screen. Battery life so much better after I rooted and custom rom.
You guys shouldn't regret having the amaze, I am not happy with the sgs2. I use to have an amaze I really miss my amaze its impossible to get use to this stupid resolution. More devs don't matter when the roms aren't up to quality a lot of them haven't been updated in a long time. Juggernaut is the best so far IMO but the amaze feel is better x makes quality roms. No notification light is annoying to now I have to use bln.

agreed with every point. the amaze community is much better imho... that explains why we're still over here lol. I would most likely be back to the amaze in a little bit.

Getting rid of Evo, What should I get?!?

So now it turns out that the screen is broken on my Evo3D (bottom part of the touchscreen is irresponsible to touches) this is after the whole motherboard got replaced after I had the phone for a month, so my carrier will probably let me have a new phone, though I might have to cough up 50-100$ myself...
Not sure what I should get though, so I'd appreciate some input!
I could get an Evo3d for free, but my faith is HTC just isn't what it used to be. It's not just the poor quality of the Evo3D I'm talking about (the touchscreen issue seems to be fairly common) it's also the fact that HTC is making us Evo3D owners wait until at least summertime to get ICS update, which is just unacceptable for what was sold as a top of the line phone...
Moto RAZR
They'd give me the Droid RAZR for 50 bucks, and I'm pretty tempted, since it looks like a nice phone. A great SAMOLED+ QHD screen (Yes I know about the pentile), expandable up to 48gb, a pretty good camera, and super thin Kevlar surface all line up for a pretty sweet package. The only thing kinda holding me back, is that the SGX540 GPU in it is kinda old, battery life is supposed to be just average, and the camera, while good, isn't as good as in the Samsung GSII or iPhone 4S.
Galaxy Nexus
I miiight be able to get a Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Note if I cough up 100-200$ but not sure if I should go for it. Yes, it has an awesome screen and ICS, but whatever Android phone I get will have ICS in the next 3 months or so. The downside is a kinda old CPU/GPU combo (OMAP4430 and SGX540), a 5 mp camera, average battery life and only 16gb storage.
iPhone
Depending on what I'm willing to spend, they'll let me have an iphone4 for free, or 4S if I put down some cash. Between 50 and 200$ all depending on the 16/32/64 gb model. Now I know the iPhone option is kinda controversial, and if you had asked me a year ago, I'd never get an iPhone. But lately, I've gotten kinda disillusioned with Android. Even on a high end model like the Evo3D or SGSII isn't as smooth as iOS, and lag, even if very slight, is almost always present if you go to a list, for example. Theres also the issue of hardware quality and service. The last six months I've spent a couple dozen hours either trying to get an Android phone fixed, fixing issues with it, or taking it to repairs hops and waiting days or weeks for it to be repaired. With Apple you don't have to deal with all of that. They DO give really, really great service. If you take a broken phone to the Apple store, they often just outright replace it, and that counts for something IMHO.
I've had an ipad2 for the past 5 months, and I've really gotten to appreciate how fast and smooth the experience is, and how everything just works. The other advantages would be iMessage/FaceTime, which is really cool, having my phone work great together with my iPad, and the whole Apple ecosystem. Cameras are also top of the line, from what I've seen, and battery life is really good.
I know of the downsides with getting an iPhone, the biggest one would be the 3.5 inch screen. No matter how awesome, bright and sharp it is, it will take some getting used to, to go from a 4.3 inch screen to a 3.5 inch screen.
Other phones, like a Samsung or HTC are also available for me to get, this is just my top3. I'd really appreciate your input, and let me know what phone you'd get next in my situation... Thanks!
Based on your phone listing's looks like you have the GSM version. I would go with either the GN or the Note if it is not to big for you.
The GSM GN has pretty good battery life from what I have seen. The CDMA is not as good which is that I own. Needs the extended battery on CDMA to get decent life. There are a lot of people with the GSM version who get an average of 5 hours on-screen time. To me that is some pretty good battery life.
The downside like you said is only 16gigs of storage on the GSM GN without an SD slot. I just do not get that at all! Why only 16 on a device that cannot be expanded! Luckily the CDMA version came with 32gigs.
I owned the CDMA EVO 3D back in the day, then went to the Epic 4G touch which blows the 3D away. The GN is more in a league with the SGS2 then the EVO 3D. The GN is super smooth.
I personally stay away from Moto's, especially if you like to flash things...
I have been really fortunate not to have any trouble with my evo 3d. I also had the og evo before the 3d.
My next phone will not be htc though. Im very disappointed about ics being pushed back.
Anyway, from your list of phones to choose from i would not hesitate on switching. To the galaxy nexus. Ive had a chance to play around with it a few times and really love it. Updates will always be faster to and of course it comes with the new chip for mobile purchasing. Really comes down to your personal preference and needs really. Your listed phones are all great products. I will never purchase an apple product, but i know a lot of people that love them. Good luck to you.

There's no way of telling about the updates. Google's last flagship device has been completely ignored and won't get ICS. Doesn't really matter to me as I have faith in the xda community to get any updates on to it.

Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S2 i9100. Those two phones are by far the best supported phones development wise on this site. It's only going to get bigger with the GS2 likely decreasing if the GS3 makes a big enough impact.
No HTC phone besides the Sensation compares development wise right now. A few legacy devices here and there, but for the specs, the two phones I mentioned above cannot be beat right now.
I'm in the same boat, well I'm selling mine, I'm so disappointed in HTC, too many freezing up and restarting by itself on stock rom, moving on

Thanks! The one thing I REALLY liked about the Evo was the QHD screen. So I really don't want to go back to an 800*480 screen. The Moto Razr and Galaxy Nexus have pretty much the same CPU/GPU right? OMAP 4430/60

They more or less are the same CPU. I would head over to the Galaxy Nexus forums and learn more about their processor and how it actually is a pretty remarkable in performance. Google picked out nice specs for their flagship.

Sold mine on Ebay. Bought a Epic4G touch. Not looking back. The only thing I appreciated about the Evo4G was the development community. Other than that, I'm getting twice the battery on a larger screen.
That would be my vote. And I paid full price for the Epic. Worth it.

Lol I saw you post in a thread the other day that your next phone will either be an iPhone or a windows phone haha
Evo3D.
evo 3d seems very cheap now for a (once high end) mid range phone.
I've had nothing but good luck with my Evo 3d and love it, only thing i dont like is the flimsy backing plate. From reading your post i cant help but ask were you rooted? There are tons of great roms and app mods available in the forums here, all solve numerous issues and improve upon stock in any number of ways.
As far as choosing a phone goes, if you can get a new 3d free I'd stick it out and wait to see what's available withing the coming months, MWC just finished up and there were tons of greats devices announced.
Otherwise GSII gets my vote.

Why do you like your amaze? Or dislike it?

Just wanted to hear some thoughts from the rest of the community.
I personally love my amaze compared to other phones especially the iPhone cuz whenever an iPhone user sees the amaze, well yeah they are _______ by the screen. Also cuz I love the specs and design. Also really am a fan of the community here.

The amaze is mostly a great phone. I enjoy having it a lot, however there is a lot of things about owning the amaze that drive me crazy.
1.small battery and crappy batt life.
2. accessories are a disappointing, for example
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/313doyLhjzL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Why is this not a dock ? it's an ugly dongle for the phone. It may be a fully functional piece of hardware but dammit does it have to be so ugly and a pita to work with. Just how much desktop space does htc want us to waste with this contraption. The actual desktop dock does nothing but charge the phone ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGG.
3. this is not directly related to the phone it self, but development on the amaze seems really difficult. As I am not a dev I don't ***** or wine at the dev's for this or that feature but the custom kernel's all seem to have one or more issues with wifi, bluetooth, gps, data or something else weird , this is not a complaint just an observation.
One the + side it's been the quickest snappiest phone I have ever used, games are nice and smooth for the most part witch is pretty amazing since the phone is over a year old.
anyway that's my take on the amaze. I wish like hell I could afford a Galaxy note.

Pros: I really like the way the phone looks and the phone's specs as well. By today's standards the phone is still pretty good spec-wise even for a phone that has been out since last year october.
Cons: I agree with you on number 1. The battery life isn't as great as it should be but faux's kernels help a lot. As for what you stated in number 3 you can thank HTC for all of those issues. With them not providing full kernel source code it makes it difficult to build kernels with everything working properly.
Battery: +1
Specs: +1 :good: :good:

I came from an iPhone 4 which I regretted for 1 year and 11 months of my two year committment. I jumped the ATT/iPhone ship, bought 2 used Amazes in perfect condition off ebay for my wife and myself and have never looked back.
I find HTC's software developers and customer service to be incredibly frustrating. I emailed them urging a release of the kernel source so the development community could continue to work on HTC's mistakes and further increase my battery life (clearly confrontational). In response they told me to turn off GPS, wifi,, bluetooth, syncing and data, uninstall all 3rd party apps and to not use the phone and in return I would get exceptional battery life. Listen up HTC... for that I will never buy another HTC phone..., so when you guys wonder why the company is going broke due to a massive loss of market share, look in a mirror! Your best source of sales should be repeat buyers!
That said, while battery life was frustrating for the first few months I owned it, thanks to the Devs on XDA (I'm currently running SpeedRom 7.5 and Faux Kernel v18) I rarely worry anymore with fairly heavy daily use.
I find the Amaze's screen, it's looks and its feel to be really appealing, so from the design standpoint I give HTC props (but not enough to overcome its customer service)!
I've played with the Evo 4g LTE as well as the SGS3 and loved them. My friend with the Evo says his battery has always been great, never going below 50% in a day, but he's on Sprint in Los Angeles and only has 3g, so we'll see what he says when they turn on LTE! LOL The SGS3 is a really great phone and in a perfect world where I had no money worries I'd probably own one for a while. Thus, I consider both phones to be superior to the Amaze, but not significantly so.
To sum it up, for me the stock Amaze was a horrible battery draining device that was almost useless, but with a good Rom and Kernel, the phone is just below the top tier of todays best phones, even 11 months after coming out.
I like my Amaze because its MY PHONE....and there is nothing that i dont like about my amaze!! This phone is unbrickable and invincible...ive dropped it like 69 million times it aint got no major scratches yet and runs like a champion!!
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
Yea all the kernels thats been made really really really saves battery life like super tremendously. AGREE 100% on the HTC thing deveoz said also.
It is really surprising that the Amaze still has top of the line specs even though its already more than a year old.
I love my Amaze, HTC tends to do a great job with the hardware, unfortunately they lack on the software development. My thoughts go back to the days of my tytn ii, great specs, crappy software support, they refused to implement hardware acceleration for the gpu making it awful for video playback. Even though I prefer HTC hardware my next phone will be the next Samsung G# or a nexus device.

I got the amaze mid summer. It, the galaxy sii, and the blazewere the only phones that had the right features and price at the time.
The blaze felt too much like my iphone 3gs and had a mediocre camera so I passed. The galaxy sii felt too blocky iand plasticy in my hand and had a lower resolution display than the amaze so i went with the amaze. I'm of mixed feelings on the amaze. It takes great pictures, has a camera button, has a good form factor, has micro sd, has a good slcd screen (no pentile please) and has a removable battery. However the rom development is mediocre and it still has middling battery life for me even with the faux kernel and speed rom 7.5.
The battery life is a big deal to me. If the form factor were better I would buy a mungen battery for it but the amaze is already bulky.
I am waiting to see if the next google phone has a micro sd slot or if htc will release an amaze successor that fixes its issues. Otherwise, I'll stay with the amaze for now. 90% there is better than most phones

I have not found anything I "don't" like about it.
Other than the HORRIBLE battery life *new battery will probably fix my issues*
other than that it's just the "useless" NFC due to no GW support =/
For the people with bad battery, try the anker battery. Since I bought mine the phone has been much better.

The amaze is okay but I'm stuck with this phone to the battery is horrible the only time I get good battery life is if I have 4g off during my work day. HTC sense is garbage. And I hate how HTC made this phone with the capacitive touch screen light bleed into the screen and the only way to get rid of it is if u root. Really HTC -__-? I can't wait to get another phone lol never again HTC I'm going back to Sammy. I wanted to try out htc cuz I heard they were nice I picked up my amaze in Feb and I got the wrong phone unfortunately lol

I recently got my Amaze off ebay for a good price into mint condition I'm coming from my Mytouch 4G I just wanted a bigger phone the Mytouch was feeling to small for me.
PROS
I love HTC build quality even from the N1 the polished aluminum and smooth finish is real classy lol. The phone works great and feels awesome.
The screen is pretty good as well much better resolution over my previous phones.
CONS
Battery life is terrible even before I rooted it and thru on a romper.
Camera is good but pics look a little muddy sometimes.
I wish HTC would've officially updated this still great phone with Sense 4.0
I overall love the phone ill stick to this until HTC releases a phone that will keep me satisfied for another year or two.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
Also for the people who think that the battery is terrible, try out using Speedrom 7.5/7.6, it has the best battery life on the phone with this rom. Believe me it really does...
I bought a Galaxy S III and returned it because I prefer the Amaze. HTC sense is really good and I can tether with the phone very easy. All I had to do is change the APN. I think the HTC build quality is great so my next phone will be from them.
i love the amaze because its the only device with a 100% Stable Speed Rom :3
Design Camera Buttons and weight
I love the overall design, the removable battery etc but most certainly my favorite aspect is the camera buttons.
Yeah speed rom and energy rom make this phone awesome

Galaxy Nexus to HTC Droid DNA

I'm currently debating whether to pick up the Galaxy Note 2 or the HTC DNA. I love the form factor of the DNA and it's 1080p, sense has always been of interest as well. I currently own a Galaxy Nexus, the new Nexus 4 is kind of underwhelming so I think I'm gonna take a break from the google line of devices.
what do you guys say?
I looked at both before I got the DNA. The Galaxy Note 2 was just to big for me. The screen on the DNA is much better. The also I prefer Sense over Touchwiz and Sense 4+ is the best yet. The biggest problem people have with DNA is the 16gb of space on the phone. You can easily get around this since the phone has usb-otg built in. With an adapter you plug in any size USB device. I have a dongle with a 64gb microsd card. It also works with TWRP recovery so you can backup your phone to it if you choose to unlock your phone.
The DNA is also a world phone, correct? I live in Pakistan (where all the networks are GSM) and plan on having a friend of mine bring a DNA over from the states. I've read that they're unlocked out of the box and can be used on virtually any network.

Yups, u should be able to use it in Pakistan. All GSM frequency/band are UNLOCKED in this phone.
Iam using mine in India
My previous phone was also a GNex.
DNA is at another level to GNex. Quad-core, Bigger and better screen , better sound quality, better camera, better battery life.
The only thing GNex has over DNA is custom ROMs. But you should try out ViperDNA. It kicks ass !!
We should be getting AOSP pretty soon :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
The thing that sold me was the 1080p screen... Everything looks phenomenal on this thing. I was nervous about the battery life but that had ended up impressing me also. This has honestly be the best phone I have ever owned
man you guys are getting me pumped. I might have the phone by the 3rd week of march.
The only thing that bothers me is the Verizon logo tbqh.
I bought the note 2 but after two weeks it was just too big. Swapped it for this and never looked back!
For what it's worth I came from galaxy nexus and get easily double the battery life on this phone.

lol cool .
I'm surprised to see so many gnex owners made the switch to DNA. That says a lot about the quality of the phone in my opinion. I'm not surprised you guys love the phone though, I guess its just that I've seen so much (unnecessary in my opinion) debate about all the things wrong with sense and HTC from gnex users.
I'm one of the rare people that loves both, but if I wasn't allowed more than one interface it would definitely be sense.
In regards to the OP, how serious of a hardcore android gamer are you?

I came from a GNEX and haven't looked back. I miss the roms but it is honestly a relief to be able to sit on one rom for a month with no issues and stellar battery life.

I'm going to provide a somewhat tenuous dissenting opinion. I'm coming from a Gnex, and picked up a DNA last night, which I'm considering switching to full time. After 24 hours with it, I'm quite pleased by the hardware, and utterly horrified by the software.
Sense is, in my opinion, complete and utter crap. There's no other way for me to put it, I hate almost everything about it. It's as if they locked several caffeinated adolescent boys in a room and told them to design a skin while watching episodes of Transformers. Viper is making it somewhat tolerable, but man am I anxiously awaiting AOSP. That said... the hardware, oh the hardware. The screen is simply gorgeous, and the battery life is easily twice what I got with my Gnex. In addition, I have 2-3 bars of 4G at work where I had 0-1 bars of 3G before.
The hardware advantages this has over the Gnex are sufficient to keep me from selling this thing in the hopes that AOSP is coming soon. If anyone reading is on the fence, and isn't sure how they'll feel about Sense, I'd advise waiting for prices to come down. I'll probably still pop my SIM into the Gnex here and there to experience Android as it was intended to be.
I too came from the gnex and while I loved the phone itself and devolopment. I couldnt stand the poor reception and battery life. I got the DNA on launch day and have never regreted it. battery life is great and so is the radio reception! As far as development goes you cant beat Viper rom been running it for a good while now and dont even miss AOKP anymore .I am sure you will love this phone!

As much as I hated it when I first switched, I actually kind of like sense now.... But maybe because every phone I have had before this one I ran CM or some form of aosp and the "newness" of sense keeps me interested. I really LOVE sense camera especially with the mod to make compression next to minimal. I get amazing pictures that the aosp (bless its soul) could never produce.

I actually don't game all that much, I might start though with that beautiful 1080p 5" screen. That said, I'm aware that many games don't work just yet, if that's the point you're insinuating.

This is exactly how I feel. Having first owned a G2x and then a Galaxy Nexus, the untainted google experience is starting to get a little stale. This is why I hope the DNA and sense will distract me for at least a year or longer... especially if Sense 5 is on the way.
Can only add to what others have said. I also came from the Nexus. Before that I had the incredible and sense.
The piss poor reception is what ultimately made me pay full retail for the DNA. Only downfall is the 16GB memory and annoying WiFi notification.
This phone is amazing though.

I just recently made the jump from the Galaxy Nexus to the Droid DNA. I resisted Sense at first being so used to the Stock UI but have come to really enjoy it. This phone is amazing though. Beautiful screen and very snappy performance. Anyone know how easily the back cover scratches? I prefer the naked feel and don't really want a case. In short it was a good move to go to the DNA.
BS
The process
so my question is what is the process of unlocking and turning s-off on this bad boy, i have never owned a htc device before
