Some questions - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello, im about to get xperia mini pro , but want some users/owners opinions about the phone ,manly cause my last phone was a SEw380(headaches) ,this gonna be my first smartphone and im trying to avoid headaches , so i want a good choise .So here a few questions :
1) Reading this website i found that some(?) devices have cicada(electrostatic) noises . In other website i read that the new devices have new hardware and there was an upgrade to the software's phone, so the issue was solved? this noise could harm the phone?
2)Also read about the light sensor that some times go crazy , and the screen starts flickering .
3)The keys in the bottom of the phone , right and left(i think back and the other dont know) some times go crazy (?) .
Also i really appreciate if u could share ur opinions about the phone , adv and disadv and if have other problems . Thanks.

1.) new builds dont have this problem
2.) only n bad ligntning conditions when you put finger over sensor
3.) that issue was in xperia mini, not mini pro

> technically, no. noise is from hardware (to be precise, mic in keyboard) and the noise only appear if you're recording in an empty room or silent places
in crowd / festival / party / whatever the noise won't come
> sorry, didn't happen on my XMP
> in theory, no. but in practice I find it rather amusing too since my some part of my hand accidentally hit the sensor key if I don't use keyboard mode on landscape view :v
- - -
ps: sorry for my bad english

1. The electrostatic noise is there.. At least for me, the early adopter, not sure of new hardware revision sony might introduce w/o us knowing. But its really a faint clicks, only heard in very silent video which i doubt why you would want to rec a silent empty scene :-D.
2. The flicker issue that some might encounter maybe due to the sensor getting confused whether the scene is dark or bright. So it keeps flickering. Personally i never had experience with this issue.
3. The capacitive keys are fine, unless you're holding it in landscape mode without opening the keyboard, maybe your palm accidentally touch it.
4. PROS: A very nice piece of hardware. Great performance. Benchmark even surpass galaxy s on stock fw. Overclockable to 2GHz. Small screen? Not a problem, because you type with the hardware keyboard so all of the screen estate goes toward serving you visually unlike most touch screen phone the "onscreen" keyboard fils 3 quarter of the screen. So you see less of the text you're typing.
Cons: battery life is sometime frustrating, juice defender seems to make it better but it renders my whatsapp unusable because juice defender turn off the wifi/3g connection when screen is off. Wifi range is weak compared to my ipod touch. Maybe its an issue with all android phone because i've seen galaxy s suffers the same problem.

BEFORE YOU RAISE YOU QUESTION,
1. did you make a search for an answer yet?
2. you need to provide details for you problems inorder to let other seniors here to help,
for example... which rom, how is the history....what had you done to it.......
ok ?
[QUOTE=..................
the same problem (i think it is the same) here..
it occurs generally while i am playing games and typing so many letters for sms's.
the problem has been existed since i have bought my prophet. the problem was there on official wm5 rom. using wm6 or 6.1 roms didn't fix it, but decreased a little (or i quit playing games so much).
since i couldn't enter the pin to unlock, two or more times i couldn't make an urgent call, then i soft reset it..
i thought that it is affected by heat changes when the battery consumption is high or when i hold it in my hand very long time. i also thought that it is a hardware problem, but not sure.
recently, i do not use my prophet so much, then it hasn't annoyed me for a long time..
sory,
i should have defined the problem mentioned above:
- when i touch a point on the screen by stylus (or any other way)
it assumes that i touch some pixels left of the point i intend.
- in a few minutes, sometimes this shift increases about one or two centimeters, sometimes it stay one or two letters left of the intended letter on a standard keyboard.
- this shift is much more on the right part of the screen, it gradually decreases towards the left side, and finally it exact macthes that your pressing point.
think of a rubber band, fix one end onto the left edge then stretch it to the right, this is the touch screen you see. release it to shrink it, now this is the way that it assumes you touch on it.
- after soft reset, generally the problem's gone, sometimes not.
- after re-aligning the screen, it's gone, but when somehow the cause gets remedy after a while, it occurs reverse way, then you should correct the screen alignment again (
screen misaligned
I have the exact same problem for years, I would say ever sice I got it. It's happens just like atakatas says.
Just something I noticed, It happens to me when I keep it in my leg pocket, and usually I don't soft reset nor realign the screen. I used to do that, but then I found out that waiting a few seconds it would get back to normal.
So I never asked anything arround here because it really didn't look like a software problem. I would say it is climate sensitive
Cheers

Xperia X10 moist fingertrips touch response problem (ghost mode)

ever notice when your hands become moist...and when u r pressing an alphabet on the soft keyboard.after u release your fingers..the button will remain pressed or some totally different button will be pressed.
also once u press the keyboard, it will start pressing screen alphabets on its own?...as if some ghost has taken over control.
also..when hands are moist....and u try to unlock the screen or take the call...the slider wont respond to your fingers movement..and i have missed so many calls due to this.
just simple function was tapping on an app becomes so difficult as it ll open up some other app..
i am thinking it could be due to the default screen protector film provided from factory.
anyone with any other android phone face such a problem?
iphone 4 doesnt have this problem

It happens with and without the screen protector. I'm not sure if I have ever experienced this on an Iphone, or as prevelent as on the x10.

havent noticed it on other phones.
including X1i ..the first xperia running crappy windows mobile.
i mean touchscreen does give problem with fingers are wet.
but here when fingers are even slightly moist..it starts acting unusable.
i am thinkin of changing the factory fitted protective film
Yea it does get really annoying... and then when it's cold, the warmth from your finger produces condensation on the screen, so I have to sometimes wipe the screen and my fingers dry before the phone's usable.
I agree, it is really hard especially when you press the delete key on your keyboard and erase everything!
I hope that this problem gets solved when multi touch get released, because the screen reception is handled different than now

Ok, the X1 was resistive, and under no circumstances whatsoever will wet fingers effect a resistive touch screen like this... Obviously if you use a resistive touch screen under water, you will have some problems.
Apple have been doing capacitive touch screens for a lot longer than sony, so they've probably got their act together on that... Mind you, this is of course one of the drawbacks of the capacitive screen - it will never be as accurate as the resistive versions...
I don't know too much about capacitive screens, but I know you could adjust the sensitivity on a resistive screen... perhaps there's an app somewhere... maybe

No use in removing the factory screen protector. Tried that before to see whether it improves the responsiveness, but it did either.
iPhone 4 also does have this problem and hence it's not related to phones, but it's their behavior under the given circumstances.
This is really annoying, missed so many calls and given up on typing so many sms's after starting over 3 times...
It's a pain when it's raining, and leads me to wonder if the new Motorola Defy can really function as advertised.
Still better than resistive, for me at least. My omnia screen is well knackered I guess because I pressed it too hard over too many months.

The most annoying thing is that I can't answer a call because the slider goes half way to the right and then it returns back to the left! Crappy screen! My finger are always wet, I didn't have such problems with other phones, especially the iPhone was awesome..
guys this happen with me only while my x10 is charging...but still confusing i'm totally disappointed from SE because of many things the battery performance and so many things....
I wonder if there's a way to make the menu and back buttons act as red and green buttons on traditional phones?

Yes, I have the same problem. Some say, it's software issue, and suggest to wait until tab gets updated.

Yeah that's what i expected but wanted just to know if others had the same problem and if there was already a workaround for this
Many people have this problem, including a number of reviewers.
Nevertheless Sony refuses to acknowledge the existence of the issue. When I called them, the guy said "You are the first to report such a problem". (Probably he lied and was advised "from above" to say so...)
The customer is left in the cold!
Some people have a return policy - what if one waits for a software update, the return period expires, the update comes, but it doesn't fix the problem and it turns out to be a hardware problem??
The information politics of Sony and other companies (yes, Google, you too!) is an absolute PILE OF S**T!!
Yup, me too. The annoying thing it is difficult to document. Yesterday my tablet was charging and I turned the screen on using power button - lock screen didn't react at all to my inputs. Tried switching screen on/off a few times but it didn't help. Also tried double-tap to wake with no success. Went to get my camera to document, then of course it started working...
I've written this elsewhere, but this is how I notice the touch screen problems:
For me the tablet randomly doesn't recognize touches during the below instances. In all cases either going to the home screen and relaunching the app or turning the screen off/on will solve the problem. The problems occur several times per day but not constantly.
Sometimes opening apps will cause everything but the bottom android-buttons to be non-responsive. This can happen in any app it seems, including native ones such as Google Play.
Sometimes the lockscreen doesn't recognize touches at all.
While charging I've had issues getting the touchscreen to recognize touches, disconnecting the charger has helped.
Double-tap to wake seems to be very moody, sometimes working sometimes not. Sometimes it turns the screen on even by me just holding the tablet with my palm resting against the screen.
While not a bug per se, also the android-buttons seem very picky that you have to hit them right on the spot to work.

Damn ! i'm not alone....
One forumer said he thinks that switching OFF Stamina mode helped a little bit...
I don't have my tablet with me, can someone test this ?
"A little bit" help is NOT enough.
The touchscreen MUST work perfectly, whether with Stamina Mode on or off or whether with Mode XY on or off. No discussion.
Sony HAS to fix this.
Already solved in .55 firmware

The same experience with Z1 compact and support. Told them the camera is really broken - they told me there is absolutely nothing wrong with the camera and I'm the first one who got this problem. That was some weeks before, now they officialy added that maybe some devices are defect.
But that´s Sony, they give a **** about u, don't even try to contact the support.
I'm also having this issue, if I'm using the Sony sleve it's impossible to use the touchscreen as it will tip over when I press hard enoug for the screen to actually register it.
No problem here.
Only early days yet. The only prob I've got atm is Dropbox isn't showing up in the Album.
Edit: Fixed the Dropbox problem by using the Dropsync app.
I also seem to get this. The tablet works fine when tilted at an angle but for some reason can be completely unresponsive when it's laid flat. Would this suggest a hardware issue or a software bug?
I also get this, sometimes it's like I just need to press harder (so hard the tablet falls over when using the cover as a stand), but other times it seems that no matter how hard I press or how many fingers I apply it doesn't register a thing for periods at a time.
I'm lead to believe that this is either software or firmware considering the intermittent nature. Are there any custom ROMs out yet that we could flash to eliminate the software aspect?
I have same problem, most noticeable in Chrome, switching tabs fails to register 10% of time. I can only think Sony have a hardware quality control issue with the digitizer as if it was firmware related, surely everyone would be suffering. Strange none of the reviews have picked this up, but I'm going to have to return mine.
No, no, no.
It's most surely a firmware problem!
The electric current threshold for registering a touch is set too high. So if the tablet lies on a non-conducting surface, and especially if it was not touched for a longer time, there will be touch problems. Also touching the tablet with a fingernail will not suffice because nails conduct current worse than skin. Other tablets which have a lower current threshold also accept fingernail touches.
I'm very sure: If you hold the tablet with one hand and touch with the other (and don't accidentally use fingernails), touch will be OK! Right? This is because more current will flow.
The .55 firmware which is out for LTE devices already and will follow for WiFi devices lowers the threshold and thus fixes the problem.
Up to then always take the tablet in your hands when operating it.
Interesting theory, just gave it a go, inclusive, but does seem worse in case. However if Sony aware, why have they not rushed out firmware as otherwise initial user experience is ruined.

POTENTIAL FIX FOUND (ROOTED ONLY)!
Rooted users can try this fix, works for me! Touch seems to work perfectly now, also when tablet not in hands and lying on non-conducting surface!
Edit the file
/system/usr/idc/clearpad.idc
and alter these two lines:
Code:
touch.pressure.scale = 0.0001
(original value: 0.1)
and
Code:
touch.filter.level = 1
(original value: 2)
Don't forget a nandroid before
Please report whether it helped! :good:
P.S.: just for the curious - on the first Tablet Z, the two values are also lower: touch.pressure.scale is 0.0074, and touch.filter.level is also only 1.
Thanks for suggestion but dont wish to root (I use it to watch Sky which wont work if rooted) - seems there is more assistance on this forum to the issue than from Sony. I'll give it another week for a firmware fix before returning it.
elaborate...

My bad, didn't read all the way through, ignore me.
Now after a few days I can say:
With the root fix described above, my tablet works like butter. Simply perfect. :good:
Only instance where I have still problems is when the tablet was lying around for a while and I try to operate the touchscreen without taking it in my hands. Then sometimes (not always) the screen doesn't react, but only for a short time.
The problem seems to be related to static electricity.

Touchscreen bug reintroduced AGAIN on WHITE Z5 Compact, on MM update :(

So some of you with white Z5 compact phones might have had this touch sceen bug with repetitive key presses and unstable touch screen behaviour bug which was previously "fixed" by a software upgrade:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/10/21/white-xperia-z5-compact-touch-screen-fix-arriving-next-week/
Lo and behold. This bug is back in MM, and there is another guy in the thread which I can see also have the bug come back
It is not always there, but sometimes its just there. I dont know what triggers it. A restart seems to help until it comes back again.
For those of you not familiar with this bug, it usually shows by repetitive touches, and highly unstable touch screen.
For example when i press the key "s", it usually put in "sssssss" like i have pushed that key 5-6 times.
Also the bugs shows, when for example you are scrolling in facebook/internet, it will not let you scroll. Whenever you touch the screen, it will enter, whereever you lay your finger on screen.
Lastly it also shows by the screen becoming completely unresponsive when you press anywhere.
I have clean installed MM and restored my apps via Sony Backup/restore app.
I am so pissed how a phone color (white) can somehow decide the behavior of the phone touch screen, and I believe sony is hiding something.
In the beginning I was thinking that maybe they made different builds for the different Z5 colors, so they might not have included the "newest" touch screen drivers for at launch time for the white version.
But the same bug appearing AGAIN in MM i have a very hard time understanding that should be the case that it was a software bug. I believe there are some hardware bug, they have somehow omitted by a software circumvention, and they forgot to add it to the white version for the MM launch.
Personally I have always had a problem with the "return" key when the phone is placed. Patch or not, this button works once out of 10.
For information, I just bought this phone. I also think there is a hardware problem. This is average for a manufacturer like Sony. I thought for a moment it back in service but when I see the number of dissatisfied with the service Sony in France, I preferred to keep my phone in the hope that a solution comes a day. We have the right to expect in my opinion ...
I did clean install via flastool also and i have/had this problem. Yesterday i did software repair via pc companion and restores apps after that and so far problem has not occured.
I also made a repair with PC Companion but nothing changed.
So there are other people here with this annoying problem.
You all have a white xperia yes?
This bug is so annoying I feel sometimes like tossing the phone into a wall.
If there was an alternative to this phone in this form factor and specs, I would have bought it yesterday.
But unfortunately there isn't
It's a poor ground connection from the digitizer most likely. You can replicate this "bug" on any device with a bad USB charger. I had a charger that would cause my Nexus 7 to detect random touches.
The software fix was likely adjusting the voltage threshold for touch events to be considered actual presses. It was likely forgotten about when they updated and just needs to get readjusted again. Too bad we don't have the ability to adjust the threshold ourselves in developer options
That being said I have a white z5c and I've only had this "bug" happen once and I just chalked it up to me being plugged into the wall and didn't think much of it. I use my phone constantly too.

Interesting theory. Do you think it is likely that this issue only occurs for one phone color (WHITE), and then only for some whites.
The assembly line for the phones should more or less be the same, no mater the color.
I also have Sony Z5 compact white version which had the touch problem from start. Now after the Marshmallow update its back. As said above, it could happen while browsing (or on home screen) e.g. Entering links instead of scolling i.e. It triggers multi click. In these situations all menu keys will also be none responsive. Its starts acting normal again after a quick push of the power button, i.e. puttning the screen to sleep.
As a former developer for mobile software, both for apps and the android platform, i thinking i would agree with the above conclusion that the problem is hardware based, and not due to a difference in the delivery software version, as i was hopping. So the question is; will this always be a problem for these versions of Z5c white, i.e. they are forgotten in new builds?
Unfortunately I'm having the same problem with my white z5 compact...

it happens that for different colors are used different materials.. probably white ones have different properties..
i can confirm that using bad cable/chargers this kind of bug happens with every device, with random touches and impossible scrolling.. if you have a well-known bad adapter and you note no differences with your white z5c, that's definitively the answer..
i think sony should recall all white z5cs and replace them with newer or different release
What revision of compact Z5 are you? Personally I have a revision 3 (that is written on the box).
I also had a touch of problem before moving to the latest version of Android (6).
My girlfriend also bought white Z5 Compact and funny thing... I put the Panzer Glass on the screen and guess what? Sometimes she can't turn off the alarm clock in the morning and sometimes navigation buttons are not responding. I tried then without the screen and it works without a problem. I am not sure if this is a problem with Panzer glass or sony's bug.
I have Z5 and have no problems, but mine is black edition
Mine is z5c white version as well. The bug started again on MM
And the bug quite annoying.
I bought it on updated lollipop.
And never had this problem before.
This plus Bluetooth is really making me hold off on not moving up from .200 lol
Argh - just saw the visual representation of this bug:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/10/06/xperia-z5-compact-owners-reporting-touch-screen-problems/
and it sounds A LOT like the one from the OnePlus One (driver & firmware issue)
easy blame: Synaptics - fix your ****
Anyway:
try enabling the double-tap-to-wake if it's not already enabled, lock the screen - give it some time to settle (~ 30 seconds),
wake it up (double-tap) - do some stuff - disable the double-tap-to-wake and lock the screen again.
Unlock it via power button and see if that improved the "situation".
Sony recommended a few times to boot into Safe Mode,
does this Mode exist on Android Marshmallow ?
Does it make any change ?
Had this in Nougat is there a fix?
It feels like a software problem! You can try to reinstall the system!
First consider whether it is a system problem. You can refresh the system to see if it is back to normal. If it still does not, then you may need to update a new LCD screen. You can go online to find the repaired video as a reference. The witrigs repair video is doing great, you can check it out!

Repeated burn-in issues.

Hello, recently i sent my phone to warranty because of serious screen burn in issues, they replaced my sceen, which had more light bleeding issues, but i wouldnt mind that, as the burn-ins were gone, but to my surprise, yesterday after about 3hrs of constant on screen texting in whatsapp, the burn-in started appearing on the new screen, i am seriously pissed off, i really like this phone overall with the features it offers and so on, but the quality control... Wtf LG.. I now have bought a phone which i should just send for warranty repairs after a period of time?
Just wanted to share my experience with you, i still have a gpad 8.3 thats is still rolling on the latest 7.1.1 and has no quality issues and a robust metal build whatsoever, but this is just annoying...

Dont you think i am aware of this? How does it help me? I have wrote ot in threads before and i write it again, this one was about the same thing happening even after warranty repair, and the cause is a faulty panel, i am sharing my warranty experience, i dont really understand why would you post these links? How is this helpful?
i think it would be interesting for all of us to know the period when it started to happen for the first time and then when exactly after the replacement?
I for myself got the screen replaced about 2 month ago having the screen burn issue as well. Phone IME starts with 604. Since the replacement no issue for me so far..but i am not so sure if it the problem is solved with that and the screen burn in starts again after a while again......

Its indeed interesting as it really seems to not appear at the beginning, and once it shows up it starts to get more noticable over time, for example as i said, it occured after heavy using whats app for about 3hrs most of the time with auto brightness sometimes hitting the highest levels, right now i can notice the burn in, but its not at levels where it would become disturbing, ill see how it goes, if it progresses and so on..

If you had read all of my linked threads, you should know...
...many people has this problem with different LG devices...
... it was recognized at LG G5 phones produced between march and jun. 2016 (see serial number starting with 604 up to 606)...
... there seems to be a new display without ghosting but with a little more power consumption recognized since serial number 609...
... it makes no difference witch country code your device was! all displays could be affected!
...that some users have installed "sFilter BlueLight" app to prevent this issue!
...as some users reports,it is not granted, that this issue never returns on changed displays because it seems to be a general fault...
Maybe that all this informations does not help to solve YOUR problem, but this is a forum for questions and answers ant i thought, that this informations could be helpful to know. But as it looks like,it seems that this will be for other users only!
So if you feel disturbed of me, feel free to set me to first position in top of your ignore list!

Sorry, but to me the reply seemed non-friendly, as it would be addressed to a rookie user, who hasnt done his research, maybe im wrong about your post...
But overall, yes i have seen all those threads, and unfortunatley, as i have mentioned in some other LCD display threads, the app could basically be a temp fix for the issue, when its not at a disturbing level, as its a cause of a faulty panel.
At this point where my panel has been already replaced, i cant really keep track of its model.

Okay so lets go through this together.
A burn-in only happens with amoleds as this is permanent. We have LCD panels so we have image retention which is non-permanent.
A LCD is a liquid crystal display. Means you have a certain state of the crystals. When you apply a voltage the crystals rearrange themselves and block light. This is why we need a background illumination. Anyway once you use it for a longer period with a semi-static or a static picture (like whatsapp typing bar, google maps info boxes, keyboards etc) the crystals start to shift in their relaxed form towards another state. Blue light is due to its short wavelength energy consuming -> high voltage applied -> faster image retention.
That's why blue light filters do work to some extent. (With cf lumen and root you can adjust to use less blue instead of having an overlay draining additional energy)
This liquid crystal thingie is dependent on a lot of different parameters, that's why some get it faster and some slower. My 1,5k$ thinkpad has the same issue with the navigation bar being a persisting image after 10h+ of browsing.
TLR
So this is actually not a warranty issue. LG also returned phones unrepaired as this is the negative side of a lcd and considered standard behaviour. Go for an AMOLED the next time as they can't suffer from this, but once you have image burn-in you will never get rid of it. So doesn't really make a difference.

Cheers

Thanks for the interesting article on LCD artifacts, however, i wanted to say some things:
As my for my first panel, that got replaced, image retention was pretty hard, as when the phone got warmer, it became really disturbing and barely usable as the keyboard and status bar started to ghost on grey background apps such as xda, the only way was to let it cool down and wait till everything disappears, as soon as i started using my phone a bit longer, the problem resurfaced very quick. So it clearly wasnt a normal reaction. Just to add, no CF.lumen like apps were able to help back then.
My current replaced panel is showing only minor signs of this, it becomes more apparent on longer usage times with the same elements and the ghosting is barely visible with not so intense usage, so i hope that this wont eventually get stronger as before. As it would seem to be a natural usage reaction, i still consider this an issue however, cause none of my previous LCD phone had anything like it, not even my LG Gpad 8.3. So im gonna try to apply warranty again if needed, as repair services seem to be pretty helpful in my country at least, as long as they have spare panels in stock.
And about amoled, i think ill pass that for a while, i have seen enough samsung demo units in stores have serious homescreen burn-ins.
With LG G5 the quality really seems to be an issue, yes there maybe lucky people with good units and so, but overall it is pretty disappointing, as feature and hardware wise i really love this device.
lol
I see the so called expert stopped responding like a retard. I had the same problem I just lgup and flashed stock all over again about 4 times and it started to show improvements. As of now I got rid of the burnt images on my lcd
