Can't install latest software update after unlock - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I used one of the unlock programs on xda to unlock my AT&T SG2. Now it won't let me install software updates (not sure if these are related).
The update downloads fine, but at some point I get a screen saying "Install interrupted. The software update could not be installed at this time."
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem. Any help is appreciated

This makes 3 of us getting this error.
I wonder if it is because my phone is rooted. I have tried to unroot it but even that fails.

Same problem here. I have the stock ROM with root. Tried to install the update twice and got that same error message both times.

Are you just rooted, or are you running a custom kernel with CWM?
CWM and the OTA update process don't like each other.
Of course you could just flash the UCKK6 image rather than OTAing...

I don't think I'm even rooted, just unlocked using the Galaxy S Unlock app by Helroz on the App Market.
I wonder if I uninstall this app whether the update will work then. Any ideas?

Could you elaborate on this, i.e., give more detailed instructions on what UCKK6 is and how to flash it?
BTW, will this updating problem mean that we won't be able to upgrade to ICS when it comes available soon?
Much appreciated!

i am on stock, rooted, and not unlocked

[q] unrooting sgs2 (already on stock rom)

My Goal: set everything back to stock for warranty. (charging system is *%$#ed)
my problem: I am stuck at the unrooting part.
I have read everything I can over and over and yet I still find myself in a predicament. I have restored everything back to stock (I rooted and unlocked my SGS2, but I never used a custom ROM).
I have relocked the device, I have reset everything back to stock. I used the jig to reset the flash counter. I re flashed my secure kernel. Everything checks out, except my Superuser access.
Now here is the part where I am stuck. So essentially from what I read I have 3 options that I can recall:
1 - just re flash my stock ROM to remove root (seems pointless as I have never had to flash a ROM, seeing as I am still on my stock ROM)
2 - unroot using SOC (which failed to work, stuck on step 6)
3 - use Samsung Kies to update. (this also failed, won't detect my phone, and yes it is in Kies mode, no debug)
I am at a loss. I am on the Bell network in Canada, and I am on UGKG2 firmware.
Please let me know if you need more information. Also, I apologize if the answer is in one of the threads. I have been reading everything whenever I can, and just can't figure this one out. thanks for your patience in advance

you have to flash an original firmware if you want to get rid of root and cwm.

Well, there is a market app (rootcheck) but it's easy to check yourself, if you dont have superuser in your app drawer you are not rooted.
Let's say, you dont have superuser app and you cannot access cwm recovery = you are not rooted
If I may ask, why exactly is it that you cannot unroot without flashing an original firmware? Why does SOC even give you the option if it doesn't work? Thanks for the timely replies though

soc does work but a lot of people screw up 3 Simple steps and end up with a semi bricked phone.
Flash a stock firmware is probably the more "safe" system. Also allows you to flash latest version that some countries will never receive or receive very late.
Sry my English sux even more today lol

Ok... So let's troubleshoot why I can't get the unroot to work for SOC... I have tried both in and out of download mode. Debugging on and debugging off. Yet the unroot stops at step 6 and does nothing...

I read in another post it is as simple as removing superuser.apk and the su folder on system...

I just flashed the stock rom back. Seems to look quite 100% like it did when it came in the box. Jigged to kill flash counter. I think I am set to send it in Thanks a lot guys.
Following that, looks like for root you just need to download superuser app from market and you are good to go....
Its not so easy as you know.
Removing the superuser apk just removes the superuse app, but then you end up with a semi rooted phone with cwm recovery (that you dont want if you want to go back to stock)

Good im glad you managed to "restock" the phone as you see it is fast and easy with flash of a stock rom

My understanding is that AT&T is rolling it out to in waves. Eventually you'll see the update. They just can't, and don't want to, put it out to every [email protected] at the same time.
From what I've read, if you're planning to root your phone, it's much easier and better supported to do it from an earlier version.

AT&T does this in case the update has a problem that missed their QA process.
I'm fairly certain they are rolling out the update fairly slowly - there were even rumors that it might have been pulled for a while. People getting the OTA have had a LOT of complaints.

The reason you see so many 2.3.6 based ROMs in development is because a few developers took a gamble - they guessed that the UCKK6 leak might be a final release that could go official, and they were right. We had access to a full UCKK6 2-3 weeks before anyone received an OTA.
Note that many of those ROMs are appearing to have a few issues:
1) Weird wifi compatibility issues not present in UCKH7
2) Bluetooth HID is broken - no mouse/keyboard pairing

If you root using either Super One Click, or Doomlords version of the zergrush exploit, you will still retain the stock kernel and be able to get the update without additional changes. If you update while rooted, you will retain root on UCKK6.
I'm not sure, but if you use the zedomax kernel to root, you may lose device manager and therefore not be able to check for the update.

Am I supposed to take the battery out or something. It says do not turn off so I'm a bit confused.
You should not interrupt download mode during a flash, of course, because bad things will happen. However, if the flash is finished, or if you put the phone into download mode without starting a flash, just hold down the power button until the download screen goes away, and the boot screen appears. You can also just pull the battery.

I don't know what would be causing the problem. Some posters indicated that you need to have all the bloatware on the phone, as well as the stock kernel, but I don't know if that is true or not.
I know that when I tested it, I started out on UnNamed. I Used the Odin One-click downloader to put UCKH7 stock plus root, and then updated succesfully. The first time I did it, I forgot to do a data wipe, so after I pulled the files I was getting, I did a data wipe, installed the UCKH7 stock plus root and updated again. The update worked flawlessly on both occasions, retaining root.
So the only thing I can suggest is do a wipe data/factory reset in recovery, install the Return/Unbrick to stock UCKH7 plus root package, and then update. I would think that would clear anything out that would prevent the update.

[Q] Sprint's OTA

So I just bought a Sprint SIII, and avoided the OTA like any tinkerer would. I flashed CWM, and rooted successfully, but I don't know what to do with the OTA. As this is a shared device, the other user is likely to install the update. Will we lose root after the update? There's been a lot of talk of updates here and all the searching still hasn't gotten me the info I need. Can a fellow get a hand? If it takes root, will OTA root keeper work? Can I just re-do the entire process using the toolkit and the AIO option?
You can't update with the OTA if you're rooted by going into Settings, so you should be okay.

So it won't touch CWM
Edit: The notification was there before we rooted, which is why, I imagine we still got it.

Total confusion. So I have to apply the update and reroot in CWM...then the update will rewrite the stock recovery, and I reflash CWM...say, with the toolkit?

[Q] Global Update install failure...

The global update for the Rezound is failing installation for me.
The update has been downloaded seven times OTA and has failed installation every time on my phone.
My phone's current version is:
Android version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense version: 3.6
Software number: 3.14.605.13 710RD
Baseband version: 1.22.10.042lr, 1.22.10.0424r
The downloaded OTA version: ADR6425LVW_4.05.605.14-3.14.605.13
It successfully downloads the file, reboots into "Android system recovery", and displays the following error...
RA Revamped...
Build : RA-VIGOR-v3.16-getitnowmarketing
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
wrong taskid 221384E:Error in /cache/fumo/OTAPkg.zip
(Status 1)
Installation aborted.
The phone's bootloader is relocked and "S-OFF".
I've also deleted the OTAPkg.zip file from /cache/fumo, and the "fumo" directory itself, and re-downloaded the OTAPkg.zip file but it still failed installation.
The OTAPkg.zip file is 217,141,266 bytes in size.
The resetting of my phone and getting it hung in the Android System Recovery every few hours is getting annoying.
Anybody have any ideas on how to get this fixed and the Global update successfully installed?
Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for the info. I had forgotten that I had previously flashed the amon-ra recovery. As suggested, I flashed the rezound stock recovery and the darn OTA update still wouldn't flash. The phone gave me a similar error message as before. I then flashed the entire 3.14.605.12 OTA release just to get a known stable release. The phone boots and reports that an OTA is available (to go from 3.14.605.12 to 3.14.605.13), but then times out while trying to download the firmware and gives the following error: "SERVICE UNAVAILABLE Check for Software Update under Settings when service is available". The Status reports Download Failed, Code 503. It's late, I'm giving up for the night.

You will need firmware.zip (linked to in that thread), a nandroid backup, your HTC unlock code, and possibly a coy of the stock HTC recovery.

You also have to do fastboot oem rebootRUU before you can flash firmware.zip, and remember to flash it again after it errors out the first time.
You may lose your current boot.img so have it ready to flash after updating firmware or else you will bootloop.

If you don't want the update, just download titanium backup, find the apps called OTAUpdater and 'freeze' the apps to keep them from running. There's two ota apps, one from HTC and one from vzw

Is there another way to freeze them? I'm also not finding any app in the free version of Titanium that has OTAUpdater anywhere in the name. You can't freeze from the free version, though, and the Pro version is $6.58 in the store.

Yes, go to settings, manage apps. You still have to find app named otaupdater. In manage apps, you can 'disable' apps to keep them from running. Its the same thing as freezing.

Actually, I apologize for not just buying pro. For what these people do for us, $6.58 isn't too much too ask. I went ahead and bought it. I still am not seeing the otaupdater at all, though.
I did find MCC_OTA but that's the only thing at all that had OTA in the name at all. Think that could be it?

Yes, that's the one. Any other apps that say update or report are good to freeze, too. Any HTC or vzw apps you don't use. Vzw SSO you need if you use visual voicemail or my Verizon app.
And yes , you will find tibu pro is well worth the money.

How to tell if your phone is unlocked

Hello.
I used the Casual method a while back to root my phone. This caused all sorts of problems, and once i was finally able to fix it from boot loop with a rom installed I have not touched it.
I posted a thread about wanting the stock camera, and was told to find a TW based rom. I plan on installing Jellybeans today.
It says to make sure your phone is unlocked and rooted, how do i verify if I am unlocked?
Thanks.
you can try downloading one of the root checking apps from the market that will scan your phone

That does nothing but check for root, it would be no help if he knows he has root.
Really the best thing I can think of is to try flashing a ROM, not very helpful but I can't think of any other surefire way....
