[Q] RSDLite AP Fastboot - Motorola Droid RAZR

For some reason, when I go to flash a file in RSDLite 5.6, everything works until the program puts it into AP Fastboot. The program isn't able to recognize my phone and ends up displaying "The phone failed to switch to fastboot mode."
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Extra info - Win7 64x machine

I am having the same exact problem!! i was about to post a new thread when i found this.... hope someone can chime in and give us a heads up.
my problem is that i can only get windows to recognize my razr in bp flash SBF mode. it will not recognize my razr while in AP fastboot mode. no matter how many times i've tried. i have successfully flashed an sbf before.
since then i have removed and re downloaded the drivers just to be sure that i have the correct ones. thought it might be a usb cable so i switched it out along with multiple ports on the comp. i have no idea.
don't know if this helps but the only bootstrap i could use prior to bootlooping was razrbootstrap. cwmonboot would not work no matter what (which i had working once also) and i came from arctic rom where i also lost usb mode while booted. no options at all to connect to pc. thought that might have something to do with it.
i really hope this helps someone to point us in the right direction. if i don't find anything out tonight i am going to take it to verizon. thank you guys for all that you do!!

What a lengthy post haha. I think the problem may be that I was using my 64x laptop. Switched to my moms 32 and its made it much farther so far. *fingers crossed

It was just about done, and I guess the battery got too low.....I'm screwed. It says it cant transfer because the battery is too low. Now im stuck in ap fastboot...

figured out my problem..... it wouldnt recognize my razr while in AP fastboot mode all because of me using a different cable. make sure you use the cable that came with the phone!! I thought i had the new cable but i was using an old one.
what a relief!! so that was my problem. if anyone experiences the same thing you know what to look for.
thanks XDA for somewhere to go to when i have a problem like this tho lol.
also have you tried to boot into AP fastboot then just hit the power button once. should just turn off the phone so that you can charge it on the wall charger for a while.

I went through a situation of FCs with my first Razr that VZW nor Moto could diagnose, and local Verizon replaced it with no questions asked. But I'd only had it for 9 days. Was told VZW replacement period was 14 days; but I never confirmed it.
I was able to unroot/factory reset though before taking it in. Your's might be questionable unless you have a good relationship with the VZW dealer.
IMO, if your way past any warranty period, I'd hold out for a factory cable or get someone experienced to build you one via the post above.
Good luck!

Well, this morning my dad took it in (since it was his) and switched back over to his blackberry. Verizon was nice enough to overnight him a replacement my conscience is clear for exams

not if you've rooted, that voids the warranty & gives them an excuse to hide their corporate heajs in the sand, & force people to do without a full system backup b/c they don't have root…
also, it saves them fm having to support all the difftroms, patches, etc.

[Q] Bricked Thunderbolt? :(

This time I have really f***ed up guys. I really think this time I have actually bricked my Thunderbolt. I was on Bamf Remix 1.63 I believe and everything was running great. I was obviously rooted also. I was bored and decided to flash Protekks Battery Sipper Kernel. Right after I flashed it, the phone would not boot. I pulled the battery and booted up again and it got stuck in a boot loop. So after a few tries I finally got it to boot into the bootloader. I got into recovery and tried to flash a backup and it rebooted in the middle of restoring it. I tried that a few more times. I then let the battery die. Then I charged it up a lot and tried to power it on and got nothing. The screen will not even turn on. When plugged into my computer it sometimes vibrates and my computer detects it and then my computer makes the sound like it was disconnected. I think it is still stuck in the boot loop with the screen off though. BTW the charging light does light up when plugged in. I tried the stock and extended battery to make sure it was not a battery problem. I finally called up Verizon and after I told them it would not turn on he said he is shipping me a free replacement. I told them that after a OTA update the phone would not boot. He warned me that if there is any evidence that the phone was rooted or hacked, I would be charged the retail price for the phone. That is really the only thing I am scared of. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Sorry for the long post, I wanted to get in all the details that I could.
Thanks
Adam

Wtf? This isn't Samsung. OP do you bootloop in bootloader? I recommend you go to the irc and give them any info you can.. you will probably end up flashing a stock ruu through the bootloader but first go to irc.

OK thanks for the replies. Do you think the Verizon warranty center people will actually go to the trouble of getting it to work and then charge me full retail for a new one if they see it is rooted. I already have the stock zip on the SD card so when it does boot up, it will return everything to stock. I have read online that some people have been charged retail because there phones have been rooted but most of them have gotten away with with it..

thanks for the response man. etf= early termination fee? I might not have said in my original post but they are sending me a free replacement device. The rep on the phone specifically said that if they find my phone to be rooted or hacked, that I will be charged around 629$ for the refurb replacement. I really cannot afford that (

I got out of a bootloop on my friend's Insipre 4G (which is very similar to the TB) by mounting the microSD on my computer, and then putting a stock ROM on it. I had to rename the stock ROM PG98IMG (PG05IMG on Thunderbolt), and flash it through the bootloader, but it did work.
Thanks for the post man but the Thunderbolt does not show any signs of life at all besides the flashing orange LED at the top blinking and the computer detecting it on and off every 5 minutes. The stock zip is already on the SD card so when it finally boots up it will flash and hopefully Verizon won't charge me out the @ss for a replacement.

how long have you had your phone and what hardware revision was it? did you try to run the RUU yet?
i think some people just got a batch of faulty phones because this doesn't seem to affect many.
I highly doubt verizon is going to receive your broken phone and boot it up and it will magically work. The only way it will auto-update is if they boot it into HBOOT. If they somehow just power it on it won't automatically apply anything. Keep that in mind. But I really wouldn't worry too much about it. If they charge you call them and tell them wtf I wasn't rooted. I don't even know what that means lol.
I have had the phone since the very first days it was released. Another slight annoying thing I have had happening prior is the glue on the screen has not been holding it down very well and and I can easily get a nail under it. And it wont let me do anything. I have a Droid X as a backup for now but I miss my beast

Bricked

Guys my note seems to be in the most dreadful state possible. It wont turn on, I can't put it in recovery, when I connect it to the computer I can hear a sound signalling it does recognize something, but adb cant find the device (seems like it turns off).
This happened after trying to put the cwm beta4 recovery.img , nobody except me is responsible, I was trying to put flash the image, after running the command however it dint seem to me it made any difference after trying to boot to recovery so, I tried running the command again, except this time, it gave me an error which said it ran out of space or disk space, I tried restarting and it wont turn on.
Any and all help is appreciated.

Honestly......best idea.... return it. I'd actually suggest leaving it alone, on the off chance you got Odin to recognize it, and maybe halfway fixed the Note, it might then look to whomever you return it to that you broke it somehow. Basically the fact it won't turn on at all is to your benefit at this point.

As for the brick, i concur, returning it at this point would be best. I hate using dd to flash things, one typo can screw up the entire device.
if it turns on at all... you may risk getting it found to be modded. just sayin.
if i were you. Id find an old ac adapter cut the wires and seperate. then zap the prongs where the battery connects. in my experience, old laptop chargers work the best. be sure to cut the end off of the cord that plugs into the laptop. the brick will protect you from fatal or even harmful shock so dont worry.

Selling my Droid Razr - Bricked/won't charge

Hey,
I didn't feel like going through the trouble of buying the Motorola factory charger or whatever you need to charge the phone when it said *battery low* *cannot program* when trying to use the RSD program (might have spelled it wrong) to restore to factory settings. My battery must have been low and in the middle of the restore, it stopped and now Im unable to get to either recovery or charge it.
I had insurance luckily so I just got my galaxy nexus back and should be to me tomorrow. Do yall think someone will buy this phone like that? i have 2 nandroid backups on there so it's probably not safe to sale with that stuff accessible.. smh.. that's why i liked the samsung galaxy s and galaxy s 2 devices because you can use Odin which makes the phones virtually unbrickable. The phone's in PERFECT condition. Would be nice if there was a way around that man

Yeah but you know when you're a frequent flasher and are sure it only takes about 10 percent batter at the most, you don't charge it to the max but I just made a boo boo by not reading the part that said *You must be running a the rom already before flashing the update portion*.. that caused the bootloop..
Thanks a lot though. You're right

Phone should reboot in to a sort of recovered state (last firmware that was on phone) and allow you to charge up.
Once 100% retry flashing.
I screwed my phone several times already and thought I wouldnt recover. Through some chat help have always recovered. Same for my Charge after a few times you figure out all the tricks.
You can recover it. I've done it twice
If you check out my post it shows you a alternative and easier way charge your phone again and make it back to stock rom and no root. Then you can sell your phone for a better price or just keep it!

So, I rooted my GS3 with this method http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoEVD...ure=plpp_video
Everything went perfectly and was successfully rooted.
I then made a backup of my phone.
I tried installing a rom and it had errors, so I restored my phone and it was successfully stored and hit restart phone.
Thats where I am at now. The phone shut off, and wont turn back on. I have it on the charger and there is no charging light, nothing. tried pulling the battery, entering recovery. Nothing works.
I have no idea what happened or how to get my phone back on.

if you did flash an international rom, did you follow all the suggestions in this thread during your recovery attempt:

The seriousness of your issue will depend on if you can enter download mode or not. Do not have USB connected, pull the battery and put back in to make sure it is truly off, instead of some hung state of "on". Hold Power, Volume Down, and Home at the same time, for several seconds to try to enter download mode (see http://youtu.be/0BJlfbZNB-I).
If you can get in, you should be all set.
Then open up Odin (http://samsung-updates.com/Odin307.zip)
Connect USB, it should light up a "COM" port recognizing the phone as connected.
Find the proper stock tar file for your carrier:
AT&T: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737848
Sprint: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737859
T-Mobile: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737855
Note, the sprint one also has a video link to similar instructions.
If you can't enter download mode, however, that's a potentially tough situation. You may research "jigs" that I'm not familiar with, or you may consider a warranty return, an often debated morally questionable move.
Let me save you some time..
As said, see if you can get into download although if no charging is happening i'm 99% sure theres no download mode either. In which case plug it in your PC. If it appears in device manager as QHSUSB DLOAD then let me be the first to say,
WELCOME TO BRICKTOWN. sorry but you look like another unfortunate person to see how easy these ****ers brick. my deepest sympathies
Also, in reference to the jig, unfortunately does nothing in this situation. I feel confident though that somebody will eventually find a way to unbrick with the Qhsusb dload brick because i saw after hours of looking into this it has been done with other phones. just my 2 cents
So, what I ended up doing is returning the phone to best buy for an exchange.
Now I know to pay attention and not install international roms anymore. Lol
Thanks for all the help though.
Oh, and my phone was not able to enter download mode, so I was assuming I was screwed for the most part.

True but best buy / Samsung will not go out of business because of this...sounds like a newb not doing his homework vs. someone who knew what they were doing , taking a risk and then returning it. Hardly fraud when there was no intention of taking the risk.

The risk is always there when you start flashing roms. Especially for script kiddies that cant be bothered to read directions.

These company's do care, and why do you think they lock bootloader and constantly patch to prevent rooting , samsung has been easy so far but, given enough returns and complains from retailers they will change their policy. Just a matter of time.
Samsung also implemented flash counter just for this reason.

Couple things. People work for Best Buy and anytime you defraud them it will impact the company, the profitability, and employees. It will also eventually impact people who have honest claims and get put through the ringer because of previous claims.
Secondly, this phone isn't any easier to "brick" than any other phone when you flash a rom, modem, etc. that wasn't made for it. Would you try to chip your Ford's engine with a chip meant for a GMC truck? Would you flash the BIOS of your Dell laptop with the BIOS image for an HP? That is how people need to consider the variants, as if they are from separate companies, not only separate products.
These threads just get under me. How do you not read every single sticky on each board.
Hmmm, wonder why Verizon got the idea to lock the bootloader?

[Q]Okay, so potential stupid question

so I odined my vzw note II back to stock using the alt tar package. It booted up fine, but then I rebooted back into recovery (stock android) and stupidly, or curiously... flashed the CWM Touch 6.0.32 recovery image in recovery, it attempted to reboot, but nothing. All I'm getting is a dim red light flashing everytime I try to boot my phone up. I've switched out the battery and still the same. btw, my battery was full when I did this. Potential brick? Or should I try to use a usb jig to get it it to boot back up and go into download mode?

This is most likely a brick but possibly just a soft brick. I did the same thing on my S3 and was able to get it back up and running using a jig and flashing the stock kernel in Odin.
Can you get to Download mode at all or does it just flash the red LED when you try to boot into recovery? I would at least try the jig before having it JTAG'ed cause there is at least a chance it'll work.

yeah, it doesn't turn on at all. Even being plugged in. It just flashes a red light for like a second and that's it. I can't get it to turn on for the life of me.
edit: any chance I can borrow that jig? lol.
You sure can, I made it myself. If you have any soldering skills I can send you the instructions if you would rather not wait on it to come thru the mail or if you live in Alabama I will meet you and give it to you.
There is also a page on XDA about USB jigs that has a list of people willing to loan theirs out, there may be one near you if you would rather not wait.
Its easy to make them though, all you have to do is have basic soldering skills, a micro USB end, and a resistor (which I believe was a 300k resistor, its been so long since I made it though the value could be off. I still have the supplies to make 10+ more though so I could look to make sure if you did go the route of making your own).
Either way its up to you, I can send you mine thru the mail or if you're game to build one I can send you the instructions.
Also the jig may not work, it depends on how badly bricked you are, but it worked so me when I did the exact same thing and had the exact same problem on my S3. You may have to get it JTAG'ed though, which I really hope you're able to fix it with a jig.

I'm going to bite my tongue about you flashing in stock recovery since you have learned your lesson with your situation at hand
You can order one from mobiletechvideos.com which is a reputable place. It's only $8. It says galaxy s, but it's listed under note2 products

$8 dollars is a little high seeing as how you can buy then for 5 on Amazon. Considering what goes into it $5 is almost to high.
And biting your tongue about flashing in stock recovery? If it had been the recovery zip he would have been fine, I've even made the mistake of flashing a tar.md5 in my recovery when I knew better simply because I wasnt paying enough attention to it because I wasnt at home and eas downloading it on my phone. It's an easy mistake to make of you're on the move and arent on a computer, especially when considering the TWRP update is either tar.md5 for Odin or a zip for your recovery. I thought I had seen CWM recovery flashable zips around on here but I may have been wrong seeing as how I dont use CWM anymore and dont keep up with it.
Also jigs are fairly easy to make seeing as all you have to have is a micro USB end and a 300k resistor. I bought the micro usb end that came with a shell for a cord and while there is a hole on one end it still looks better than having a hacked wire hanging around.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium HD app
Here are some pictures of the one I made. The hole on the end is because the shell was made for a wire to go out to another USB end but I just used the shell for this instead of having a hacked cord lying around or a wire running out of the opening and connecting to the resistor outside of plastic shell. Having the resistor out of the shell would be easier to short circuit whereas it is completely stable in the shell.
The little piece you see in the opening is the very end of the 300k resistor that is covered with heat shrink tubing so none of the metal is exposed. I'd you want to make your own you can follow the instructions from here:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-hacks/how-to-make-a-usb-jig-for-your-galaxy-s2/
The male micro USB ends I used I got off of eBay:
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=390363690475
They come from China and take a while to get here but you could just as easily get them from Digi Key
Also the 300k resistors I got off of Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/E-Projects-30...1369827313&sr=8-2&keywords=300k+watt+resistor
If you still want to use mine I will send it to you no questions asked, just let me know.

When I was messing with jigs there were a few different ones but as long as it is made for Samsung or works on Samsung products you should be fine.

yeah, I hope to god it works though. Do you know of any JTAG/sd card unbrick for the i605? I emailed the seller about JTAG on the note II and he said it wasn't possible, they're using the sd card method, which I can't seem to find anything on unfortunately.
also, here's what i ordered:

That one should work fine, if it doesnt let me know and I will try to find you one that does.
As for the SD card JTAG I dont think that has worked since the 4.0 update on Samsung phones, I may be wrong on that though because I never messed with it. The only surefire way I know to JTAG a Samsung phone is to either buy a JTAG, which is around $150 and is called a RIFF box, or to send it to MobileTechVideos and get him to do it for $60.
There is a thread on XDA about using an SD card to JTAG an international S3 but im unsure if the software you had to load on the card is out for the Note 2.
The downside to doing it yourself is you have to take the phone apart and solder the wires to the JTAG contacts on the MoBo, on some phones you can make a piece out of breadboard so you dont have to solder the wires to the contact points on the MoBo but I dont know if you can do that with the Note 2.
If you went the route of getting it JTAG'ed you definitely need to send it to MobileTechVideos, he has been doing this for quite a while and is very very good at what he does.

Yeah, hopefully I won't have to go that route, but if I do I'm planning on sending it to mobo, and hopefully can get it back rather quickly. Guess we'll find out tomorrow... Which sucks, but what can you do? Hopefully, if you had the same problem on the s3 and a jig worked for you then it'll work for my note 2. Honestly I don't see how the hell flashing a recovery zip in stock recovery could brick me. I've never ever heard of it doing that.

Well I flashed the recovery img, that bricked me immediately. I rebooted the recovery and thats when I figured out how bad I screwed up. Hopefully this will work for you, these suckers are hard to hard brick so I'm crossing my fingers that the jig will get you up and running.
