Has everyone has anyone been able to use full songs as notification tones ??? i.e for messages, email, alarms e.t.c
I know you can set a song as ringtone but i have been unable to use it for any other notification.

u can create :
1) audio clip (mp3)
2) Alarm tone
3) Notfication
4) Ringtone

It was good.
Thanks for that but i wanted to use my phones full music.I found a way to do it- I created a folder on my sd card in the following order sd/media/audi/notifications and copied/moved the music to the notifications folder and now when i go to sound settings i can choose them from there.
I think that's a good enough solution for now.

It does something similar to that but there is an even better app i found in the market called rings extended.It's not an app but just edits itself into the system and prompts you to use it instead of the android ringer system.
Now i can select any music from anywhere on my sd card-(it shows you all the mp3 files from your sd card and you just pick your tone.AM NOW SORTED WITH THIS ISSUE SO FAR.

1. How can i install ringtones and use the default app to show them all? (I usually use astro to set a mp3 to a ringtone, but I found a rom with a bunch I liked that were not in the Rom I am using currently) I like using the default selector.
2. How can I pull the ringtones out of another rom?

I removed default ringtones by using ES file manager in the market (make sure to go to settings and allow root permission a well as read/write) once you have the app and open it and back out of the sd card root into OS , select system folder then media, in there is notifications and ringtones and whatnot. Now that you know where to put the ringtones just copy and paste them there.
Now I'm a noob so there may be an easier better way but worked for me ha ha.
Oh and ringdroid app from the market works well in trimming them. I usually make tones then put them in as system defaults.

Zedge ringtones app from the market. It is free. The best part is you can change your ringtones with the default HTC ringtone chooser. Also if you happen to change your ROMs it is saved to the SD card and after you install a rom after a full wipe, you can still pick the downloaded ringtones from the HTC ringtone chooser. Yes Ill say it again, even after a full wipe and flashing a new rom on your phone
Ringdroid will do the same actually, I don't know why I said all that lol, I was caught up on how I delete the lame default ones

there is no need for an app to install ringtones and notification sounds to your phone.
simply create a folder in the root of your sdcard called media. In the media folder create another folder called audio. Then in that folder make 2 folders, one called notifications and another called ringtones. once those are created put a ringtone or notification sound in the corresponding folder and once you eject it the ringtone/notification sound will be available in the ringtone/notification list.
your folder tree should be as follows
sdcard
|---------media
|-----------|-------audio
|---------------------|-------notifications
|---------------------|------------|-------notification.mp3
|---------------------|-------ringtones
|---------------------|------------|-------ringtone.mp3

I have found that after placing an mp3 in my system\media\audio I have too reboot before the phone will recognize it.

I put them on my SD card under a folder called "ringtones".
I been playing around with the ringtone/notification/alarms folders (especially since rooting)
They can be placed anywhere on the SD card (I still use the >Media\*** tree for orginization purposes). I have yet to find a time/size limit, except for what I prefer they sound like.
I prefer the MP3 format for rintones/notifications/alarms, because rather than the file name, they will show the tagged Title as the tone name. So you can call the tone "ringer1.mp3" but in the (I use Windows) properties, you can setr the title to "The Wife's Custom Ringtone", and android will display it as "The Wife's Custom Ringtone" (just examples off the top of my head. I'm not that lame)
I just mount ther phone to the computer, drag and drop the tones to the proper folder, unmount the phone, go to the selector, and voila there they are.
I just recently changed from the global 2.1 x10i firm to the x10a firm (since i had an x10a)
Previously in the x10i firm i was able to go through settings, sound & display, phone ringtone, and then the complete action using box would come up. In it one of the options was android system, and the other was music, which would show allow me to see pretty much all the compatible files on my sd card
i can not do that now. I am not sure if it was a program i had installed before, which i cant remember, or if it is the firmware itself.
any hints?
Just use the software mixzing from market,is a good mp3 player and u can select your mp3 as ring tone

+1 for that. I did the same before but now because i'm using handcent SMS, it gives me the option to select whatever audio file i have as a ringtone or notification.
I find a simple solution go to mediascape (music) and choose the ringtones which you like press the menu content in phone and there is a option to set as a rinton
and the rington is avaible as a ringtone!!!!!
Doubletwist will also do this if you are curious.
I usually paste them on ringtones folder using root explorer
As mentioned in the title. The contact specific ringtone used to work with 2.2. Then I got the OTA to 2.3.4, rooted my Atrix 4g. Now no matter what ringtone I assign to the contact, it always plays the default ringtone. Anyone can help me with this?
Didn't notice it until I read this post. My custom ringtones that I set in 2.2 still work but I cannot seem to change them. Where is the setting in 2.3? I've been looking in edit, contact but don't see it. Is this feature even in 2.3?
Edit: Nevermind found the setting under menu, options when viewing the contact. They seem to be working fine.

Go to contacts, select a contact, hit the menu button and select options, there will be a ringtone section there.

You could try moving the files (not copy) to the internal sd memory. However, its a known general Android issue (at least with 2.2.2) where assigned ringtones switch to the default ring or a random ringtone whenever the external/internal memory is unmounted (power off your phone, plug into your computer) and then mounted again. Very frustrating. The only surefire fix that I know of is to root and move the ringtones into /system/media/audio/ringtones . I did this soon after I got my Atrix. No more lost ringtone assignments.
Before moving my ringtones to /system, I think once my phone ringtone switched to a google voicemail wav file...that was interesting .

That's strange, do the sound files play properly? You mentioned you had them before the update so I would think the files themselves would be ok.
Yes, they play properly. Another thing I found out is that when I choose sound for the alarm clock, I can no longer choose "Music". When I click on "Music", the pop up dialog only shows OK and Cancel buttons. It used to display all the music files I have available on both internal and external SD cards.

hi mate, what did you root your atrix with, mine was rooted with gingerbreak when i had 2.2.2 installed but i upgraded to 2.3.4 today and now i cant root it. thanx

I can't find out for the life of my to change it to my custom ringtone. I dragged the MP3 to my phone via Kies and I can play the file, but I have no idea how to change it. The only phone I have experience with is the BlackBerry and its very simple. Could someone help? Thanks
If you have root, you could try copying the ringtone to /system/media/audio/ringtones/
or easier way................
Create a folder on your sdcard (internal) called Ringtones (with s)
Place mp3 inside folder
Go to phone settings/sounds/Phone Ringtone.............
Edit: Forgot to mention 2nd method won't work if sdcard is unmounted from phone (ie. mass storage mode with PC)
/sdcard/ringtones
For ringtones (they will then be setable like normal)
/sdcard/alarms
For alarms
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications
For notifications

Edit: But still, the advantage of putting in system/media/audio/ringtone is that you can unmount the sdcard (internal or external) from phone and your ringtone will still work!
Don't forget to reboot and then or will show up on the list.

I'm not sure of all the complicated solutions here. But can't you just use a ring tone maker from market? I use "ringtone maker pro free".
Go to settings and change it under the sounds menu
The best way I change my ringtone is I go into settings sound then choose your phone ringtone or notification tones
If you want to add the songs to your phone and don't have a sd card then install Kies on your computer and plug in the usb cable and it will come up as another device click on that and drag the files into the sounds folder.
I'd say downloading a ringtone app is the sure-fire solution. Just search "ringtones" in the market app and you'll find a number of apps. Then you can either edit your songs into ringtones or just use the readymade ringtones. GL
I downloaded few ringtones but whenever I try to set it, i never found that ringtones in the list.
What should I do? Do I need to trsf that ringtone to any other folder to make it visible from the available ringtone list?

if i remember well just putting the ringtone on the phone does the trick, but if you want to keep the tones organized connect the phone to a pc and make the folder.
and in any music app it should appear (and atleast on the stock android one) you can select any piece as a ringtone and notificatio ntone, you can always go to settings > sound iirc, and do it from there
you can also use zedge and download the tones from it
No I think borisenko007 is right. It has to go under the media folder. At least that's what I did and only the tones I put there show up. I put it on the phone memory, not on the external sd card.
naaaah... just download this app... handcent from the market is really cool
Both options from post 1 & 2 works option 1 would be a standard lay out.
