I just got my first android tab. Everything is so far so good. Frankly was really worried since there are tons of people whining about Wifi, bleeding and even short charger cable(lol mine wasnt short at all)
Either way, biggest and maybe only disappointment i have with my tablet is that there is nothing on Android Market that is comparable to "Notability" from IOS.
If you have an Ipad, you know what i am talking about.... I looked around for a while and cant find anything as good. I was wondering if anyone can make an recommendation on a note taking app that is similar to Notability.
Supernote should have come stock with the TFP, look for it. I remember it from the OG Transformer. It was really good, better than most I've seen on the market.

I agree that it is better than most I've found on android market, but still no where as good as Notability....
Evernote all the way. and it syncs to EVERYTHING - your phone, your PC, the interweb etc

Skitch (market link) is an add-on to Evernote that provides much of the same functionality.
Try freenote- same concept but not as feature rich (yet- v responsive developer
You're probably better off posting this in the themes and apps forum.
You might want to take a look at AntiPaper Note Free from the market. I don't think it has all the features you're looking for but hey, this is Android :-/

I can take notes on my Prime, open them on my iPhone, or on a Laptop or Computer in a Web Browser.
It is awesome. I used it for making Christmas Lists in December. Took my girls to Toys R U, wrote down what they wanted, BOOM!! Awesome!
I also prefer writing with the stylus and ive seen people use notability.
I started out with supernote but didnt like how it was not as easy to free write.
I tried antipaper for a while and i liked it a lot and the writing style was a lot more like notability, but overall i preferred supernote because it was a more complete program and was organized better.. and i found out then if u hit insert-annotation you can free write something on the note and move it or resize it.
And evernote is no good because you cant write. Stitch is not an addon, it is an independent app that was bought by evernote, and you can just share to evernote within skitch. It provides no where near the functionality or efficiency of the other stylus writing note apps

Anybody know of a good resource to find tablet optimized apps? I really want a good research paper/citation manager like Papers on the iPad. Good news readers? Other apps which really harness the ability of the tablet?
On another note, I hope that Tapatalk updates their app to take advantage of tablet screen realestate.
For news reader, pulse and news360 are the best. I like pulse better personally. Haven't tried Google currents in the tab, but I hear that is good as well

Yeah currents is like the android version of flip board I have on my iPad. I wish the marketplace was more like apple app store where you can view all tablets apps only. in android you have to sift through everything and hopefully find tablet app or a universal one. This is where my iPad beats out the prime. way more tablet only apps for apple. I hope android picks up the pace with these tablet apps.

Ya I run Tablified and the app, though I didn't actually code it myself.
I agree that the market should have a tablet section but as Rubin said, it wont happen. Therefore Tablified will be around as long as its helpful to people. If Google does their own thing, and does it better (which I know they can) I'll gladly close shop.

Especially JotterPad HD is such a beauty of app. A lovely designed text editor with some great features - especially for us Transformer Users. It supports common keyboard shortcuts for copy & paste as well as undo and redo. There also a timeline included for up to 10 verions of each document and also an export function into .txt and pdf files. Even font style can be changed.

It's such a beauty using most of those new Android design features like fragments and so on. Hope we'll see more apps like this in the future.
I suspect Google is embarrassed by their tablet app selection and that is why they don't have a tablet optimized section with the exception of a few staff picks.

Not really into games, more into media consumption. Netflix, crackle, google music, kindle, and rhapsody are pretty much the only media apps that take advantage of the tablet form factor. It doesn't even compare to the iPad. Flash is nice to have on a tablet though, so they make up for each other.
At this point, I am considering returning for an iPad 3. The qc issues are scaring me away a little. If the screen starts falling off, Asus will require me to ship at my own expense and wait 2-3 Weeks, whereas with an iPad the apple store will swap it out usually that day. The iPad 3 doesn't have a release date though and they may end up pulling an iPad 2s.

bit off base, Notability is focused on handwriting with fingers or stylus. With Evernote, you have to type notes or have to draw it.
Wouldn't it just be as fast to type than to write anyway?

I am using Epistle and once I got familiar with the interface I don't feel like switching.
As for hand writing - there are some keyboards that come in handy. I am using SlideIT and while not hand writing it's ridiculously fast to type this way.
I have been wondering the same thing. My co-worker has an ipad2 and I think notability is freaking awesome. I was trying to find an equivalent for my Xoom and can't. Why cant someone make an equivalent? Notability is awesome and only costs 99cents in the app store.

I don't have an iPad but I do have a tf300 and would love to have Notability or Penultimate on Android. The only apps I found that are similar to Notability or Penultimate are:
- Papyrus Beta (seems to be the only one with Palm rejection)
- Writepad Stylus
- LectureNotes
- Handrite Note Pro (another user recommended "Genial Writing" as a better app)
I'm not sure about that claim, but that's what I found so far.
There are some more related android apps but some of them have mixed reviews, and do not seem very reliable.
At this point I have not found an app that comes close to Notability, and it seems that Notability won't be available for android (at least not soon).

Please consider this when comparing apps.
BTW: In difference to what is stated above, LectureNotes does have a palm rejection, either hardware based (for devices with active pens), software emulated (some devices), or a heuristic (all other devices) (also WritePad Stylus has a palm rejection.) But if you want to do serious note taking with your device, I definitely recommend a tablet with an active pen, irrespective of what Android app you use.

Found this old thread and I'm wondering the same thing! Does anyone have any good ideas? I'm getting a tablet later this year specifically for pdf reading and editing, and would love to get a nexus 7 rather than an ipad mini, but unfortunately notability is tipping the scales towards the ipad.

Well cant say I found it. I've found some close apps. Like Handwrite, evernote which I've mainly been using and handy memo. Not sure how close these are to Notability though.

I have found fiinote, 7 notes, free note, and lecture notes to be the best for serious hand writing I do on__l a galaxy note I feel like fii note needs major UI improvements but it is great for genetics lecture notes, because I hike my notes in my own handwriting. + the free draw has snap to grid this and the drawing us. handwriting are on 2 separate layers SO Easy to edit an switch between quickly I use the 7 notes keyboard as my input method for all things as it allows for single word edit, after writing out along string, has scrolling for a few screens before you need to confirm it and start another string. Some only allow 1 screen worth of writing, also even though it needs to be confirmed It does Still add each word you write in real time
What I want + have Yet to find is a Notability function-adding a power point the base layer so I can take notes on that in Or go. Anyone know of one? if I do PDF program I am basically adding comments in a clunky way, so I need a note taking/handwriting app I can add-ppt or pdf to and handwrite on it. My classmate can do this with notability

Note anytime is amazing I loved notability but for a great deal on my Android tablet and honestly hated all the apps for notes on this thing until now. Evernote only lets you add an attachment, office suite made you pay for the edit version, lecture notes is just writing, Polaris was good but no writing. I liked Kingsoft but you had to use the Samsung keyboard to write to text and it would add it to a pdf. Note anytime is above all the best.You have to just download it and go through the east tutorial!:good:

Hi --- checking note anytime, seems amazing, but I could not find a way to export a multi-page note to PDF. It's me or it's not implemented? (without that, it's basically not useful).

LectureNotes is promising. Noteability is awesome. LectureNotes is probably more powerful as it has a lot of customisation features. Perhaps too much in my opinion as a Noteability user.
But writing on a Samsung Note is really far better than using a squishy stylus on the iPad. I've been using S notes, the built in Samsung app, but it is too staid, slow and sluggish. Am coming to grips with LecturenNotes as I work with a lot of large sized PDFs. So far LN has been promising. Have got around to importing my first file and starting to annotate it. LN looks to deliver a lot. Let me see. The developer is extremely responsive. If that continues, I am sure my life will be a whiz with LN.
Would love Noteabiity on Android to cut through a lot of the learning curve on LN.

I would like to think so. I'm a note taking guy. Always trying to take notes on stock, customers, personal tasks things like that. You can even make folders and organize it to categories. You have to get use to the handwriting. Mine has improved, but started as if a 5 year old wrote them. Now looks like a 12 year old. Ive let others write things on it with better success. Could be my very own penmanship to be honest lol. I think its great for my note taking needs. I wish my Co worker had a note so that we can collaborate and share notes that we have written. In fact i chose to sick with this over the s3 because of that and size.

If it was the note 10.1, yeah. This is good for short, quick notes. The tablet would be better for more intense note taking. The screen and pen isn't exactly the most accurate.

I actually used it to take notes for my college classes this last semester. My mileage varied, and I had to experiment a bit to get things to where it worked out. I found myself using smemo, but ended up almost never using handwriting to take the bulk of my notes that consisted of text. I would use the tablet swype beta with the pen, because I found that to be much faster than actually handwriting notes out. Plus, you can fit more info on a screen with text instead of handwriting. Also, the tablet swype has a tab key which is very useful for indenting notes.
Where the note shines for electronic note taking is its ability to combine text entered with the keyboard with sketches and pictures. Until getting my note, I had wanted and tried to take notes electronically with my laptop, but always ran into troubles with graphs, sketches, and equations. The note allows you to use both text, and also scribble those things down when needed, which I found very satisfying. And that was before premium suite, which added even more features that make it even better. Equations were always way to difficult to type up properly, so whenever I needed to take note of an equation, I would just switch to the pen and hand write it out, making fractions, integrals, exponents, and other non typical characters a breeze to record.
As for storing and organizing my notes, I used evernote to sync them into a different folder for each class after I was done for the day. Smemo/snote have a feature to sync to evernote right in the app, so its really simple and useful.
If you're planning on getting the note anyways (not sure why anybody wouldn't if they're looking for a new phone), its definitely possible and worth a shot.
Edit: I agree with the others though on the fact that the note 10.1 would be the real way to go, but for what the note can do as a phone, its friggen amazing and makes me excited about the future of the line. I told myself I don't need a tablet, but thinking about the note 10.1 makes me almost want to get it purely for note taking in class, just because the experience has been satisfactory on my note already, and the same experience on a bigger screen would be awesome.

I would consider the keyboard if I could type fast on one. I swype faster than I type, as I use two fingers on a normal keyboard. Always hated that b*tch Mavis Beacon...haha.
Yes, the note doesn't work for everybody, but I just said they should consider it. There are a few female users on here, or users who have wives with notes that love it even though they have small hands and pockets. I see the size as a double edged sword, its either love or hate I suppose. Haha. It's definitely worth a look by everybody.
Also, I usually get more awestruck looks and questions than teasing when people see my phone. Only my close friends will tease and call it a tablet, and I just say, damn straight, I friggen love my tablet!

Note to bring up an old-ish thread but... I was wondering about this exact same thing.
I'm currently going for my Bachelors in Petrol Eng and have a lot of Math to go through.
I was mainly interested in the phone because of the sheer size of the phone, but I am worried that I couldn't go back to anything smaller and more normal and rationally sized after having a Note.
But how is it for Calculus notes? Or does anyone have any take on this?

Like I've said, its definitely doable, but can take some getting used to. I would make sure and get on an ICS rom with premium suite, as then you would have maximum functionality, and I found the spen to be even more accurate. I haven't tried it, but there is an equation tool even in the premium suite s note application, which could potentially be really useful. However, if you wanted to guarantee good note taking, I would get the Note 10.1 when it comes out, as it has the same functionality but a much larger screen.

I do not know if you guys already know, but until recently did not have such access, but now within the hotmail skydrive, you guys can create and edit office documents like the windows, although with some restrictions ... however I still think the best king polaris office and office, as relates to tools.

It has almost everything MS office has. Also adanced features like syllabification/correction test. Also it has full keyboard support with copy/paste and selecting text is really easy. The only thing missing is thesaurus but there are enough synonym apps to replace even that.
The best thing: Its still free at the moment as its in final beta status.

I dont think the keyboard is anywhere near the quality of the prime^^ I'd rather buy a Transformer style pad from Asus with win8 instead of MS surface...
TFP is currently the best Tablet keyboard combo that I can sit on the plane with the thing on my lap and type..
that alone will make me stick to the prime, for now.. The office apps for Android about the same for me.. if you really need to work on big spreadsheets nothing really compares to a 20+ inch screen and a proper keyboard.
Or you could just use the "cloud on" app as that is office!

Great advice man, Softmaker Textmaker mobile is just amazing, any idea when they will start selling it ? Wouldn't Microsoft release Office for android in october ? and Official Ubuntu, wouldnt it be also released in October, I mean Ubuntu=Open office .

I use Officesuite pro, it supports google drive (cloud). works perfect on the TFP.
cloud on offers the best office experience imho
i've found "cloud on" very usefull.. so.. (after registration at the service) this will be definitely the best office-like program..

It has almost everything MS office has. Also adanced features like syllabification/correction test. Also it has full keyboard support with copy/paste and selecting text is really easy. The only thing missing is thesaurus but there are enough synonym apps to replace even that.
The best thing: Its still free at the moment as its in final beta status.

It's not playing nice with my Prime atm. Getting screen artifacts or something on the left side when opening it up. Going to download again.
When checking the comparison page to the other apps, this looks amazing.

Make sure you have 'Unknown Sources' under security settings checked to enable installation of non Play Store apps.
Then simple tap the downloaded apk in the file manager and it will prompt to install.

The last email i got said something like "final beta version" so i guess its rather sooner than later
My download for the free beta version ends the 2nd week in July.
Kingsoft Office. Free. All basics are here for ppt(x), xls(x), doc(x).
I have tried all the office style apps that are available so far on android as I was hoping to have a replacement for office when I am traveling. Polaris office is one of the best but I have had some issues saving with my external SD card and kept losing my work.
I have started using softmaker office and other than not being as smooth for two finger zooming, the features are well above anything else available at the moment.
It is now in 5th beta so imagine it will come out pretty soon. I just wish there was an email system that could handle pstx files and I would be complete

I can highly recommend Cloud on. I tried various options, and cloud on is by far the slickest - I also agree that using spreadsheets on anything less than a 20 inch screen is a nightmare.

Since I just got my tablet, I'm not sure if I want a laptop. I have a desktop at home if I wanted to do homework, but in class I could bring my tablet.
Do you think it's silly to take notes in class with a tablet/keyboard combo? I'll probably use Supernotes too, unless there is a better note taking app.
Is it even practical either?

It's all a matter of personal preference personally I use a netbook for taking notes in class, but several people I know and my friends who have tablets use a a tablet and keyboard combination for taking notes (Ranging from ASUS Transformer to Ipad with bluetooth dock keyboard cover) and it works great for them. If you want to go light and the tablet/keyboard combo works for you I say go for it. Also check out Evernote, in my opinion the best mobile note taking app out there right now, plus it easily syncs with your Evernote notes on your desktop, on pretty much any OS and you can also edit your notes easily and conveniently from the web.

I've been using my ICS tablet for quite some time at school now... works great. All I miss is a fysical keyboard. Even use Aldiko to read my schoolbooks...

Well I miss the physical keybord too, but my TF101 is wonderful for slides consulting, I waste much less paper since I own it.

Catch is good but I feel as if Evernote is more polished, less buggy, and works better cross platform. Plus for me while the interface felt nice, things didn't necessarily seem as intuitive as they could have been, nerveless it is still a good alternative to Evernote. I also use AK Notepad by the people who make Catch for real simple quick and dirty note takings (Have been using that since early on with my Droid 1).
Over here in my school its compulsory for everyone to have a *cough* iPad *cough* (because its simple to use... really??), yeah I prefer it to pen and paper. Much faster and I get more customisation choices, screw different coloured pens... they're all on Google docs and I share them with everyone plus they don't get lost. Love it.
