strategy : why focusing on 2.2 or 2.1 AOSP : 2.3.1 is more attractive we have a lot of delay stop viewing the past :
Synergy : each developer work hard but alone "not enough fast" maybe the creation of one Dev-team & one project " avoid the personal conflicts" is a better way to escape from SE Curse they develop 2.1 and 2.2 is already in the Market
PS: i am very proud by our Devs , I only think that 1+1+1+1 ..... is better than BIG One

I support your initiative. I would love to have ONE great ROM (with full hardware support) rather than several "half implemented" ROMs like we have today.
IMO most developers here prefer to work alone (don't know if it's related to donations...), but it's really easy to see that if all of them join a single project we would definetly have a better and more optimized ROM.
One good thing is that Google seems to slow down the new major releases to two a year, so our developers will also have more time to debug and keep up.
I can only assume that they have put a lot of time looking at and understanding how the previous versions run, now they have an understanding they are putting it to good use and developing us a custom rom free of charge. To inhance our phones
I dare say they are probably looking at the gingerbread stuff now but you can only you can only do what you can do, there is no point stopping a development everytime new software came out because that way you would never have anything finished.
Patience is key, these guys do have lives, there is a order to everything and just because you dont understand it doesnt mean it is wrong
the dev's are amazing and i wish i had the knowledge to help more, icecream is coming out in the summer will the devs be expected to down tools and move on from gingerbread then?

My (limited) understanding is that since the bootloader is still locked, they are developing these custom ROMs on the existing 2.1 kernel that SE has put out for the X10. That means that certain core components are Android 2.1, and can't be replaced without bootloader access.
As such, it makes sense that the further an OS version is from 2.1, the more likely it is that it will require specific features not available in the 2.1 kernel.
So developing stock 2.1 for the X10 would be easiest, 2.2 would be more difficult, 2.3 even moreso, and so on.
maybe its true but developing 2.1 AOSP or 2.1 with sense take a ot of time and confir the stupid idea from SE Eclair 2.1 plus SE soft is better than Froyo ,
Creating a team will reduce time of developement and may be improve the quality of the rom build , my idea it just to say that and unify the X10 community in supporting one effective project thant wasting a lot of creativity & effort in incomplete work its easy to say the difficulty is to DOING the Job
Just a little bit of insight here from someone who isn't a developer of ROMS....
I agree that combining their efforts would most likely give us better results with regards to hardware. Here's what I think may be happening. Now that they're able to create functioning ROMs, they're each taking the time to hammer out their skills. When you learn something new, you generally spend your time redoing the same thing over and over until you've got it down pat.
That being said, they're each learning more and more as they attempt new ROMs. I think once the fascination of "Hey I got a working port of *this* ROM first!" wears off, maybe they'll work together to create a fully functioning ROM. Who knows, one of them may actually sit still for a moment and finish up one of their own ROMs.
I hope that all of the developers working on different ROMs at the very least keep a line of communication open between them so as to share fixes and work arounds.

I havn't even tested a ROM yet since their all incomplete, simple as that.
All the different ideas and "wishes" posted on this thread are of course appealing but until the bootloader is cracked it's practically impossible to have a fully working ROM on any other version other than the 2.1, at least from a short term perspective.
Correct me if im wrong, but from my understanding they started to work with 2.1 just to make it simpler to mod the code to 2.2 later.
The reason is that SE have released some code for 2.1, but of course not for 2.2. So they used SEs 2.1 code to develop the 2.1 AOSP rom. And could therefore much easier convert the code to 2.2.
It seems like you guys haven't been paying attention to dev work for the x10. Maybe it's because you didn't lurk the sub-forum since the beginning or maybe you don't understand what the devs are actually doing.
The devs ARE working together. jerpelea, zdzidu, bin4ry, goro-kun, maxfron, and many others DO communicate.
What one person said about having 2.2+ functions are strictly related to the kernal and bootloaders is the final word. Sony implemented special drivers for the camera and video decoding.
Until someone writes the drivers from scratch AND unlock the bootloader, we will have less than 100% functioning 2.2+ roms.
on that 2.3.1 HTC rom camera is working ... if they can get the BT and Wifi working it will be awesome . but i have a question . will we get the (MT) on these roms after SE release? i mean for 2.2 and 2.3

The htc rom mentioned by you is 2.1. That thread is for 2 roms. 2.1 htc and gingerbread. So no, camera is not working on 2.2+ yet. Z got some progress making the camera atleast respond, but so far, if he implements full camera function, he looses other key functions in the rom. Not a good trade.

Is there anything new going on in the development side? I havent seen much in the Dev section. Does anyone want to share what new projects they are working on?
most evs have developed what they can from what's available. Until Viewsonic, Nvidea, USMerchants, Google, or any other entity release something that can drastically change the way we Gtab, then there won't be anything else to develop. They may tweak a few things here and there, fix bugs, etc. etc. but as far as something "new" it will have to depend on VS et al.
When VS released their 1.2 bootloader, as it's become known, Roebeet made some new(er) romss based on previous builds (TNT Lite, Vegan-Tab, CM7). They aren't really "new" just updated versions of existing roms, to accomodate the new bootloader. (they are posted at another forum site)
There have been a few Kernel updates as well, but none based on the 1.2 bootloader (that I know of)
So, basically, the development section will be a bit on the quiet side until the developers are given something substantial to work with. All the roms we are using are based on something that was provided by VS et al., so until they release something, then there will be nothing to work with, besides what already exists (ie, tweaks bug fixes, etc)
Slower changes is fine with me. For once, I'd like to use my gtab for more than a couple weeks without flashing a new rom or kernel.
I've been turning to the CM7 for dev, as there is a lot of work going on for the Gtab there. It's officially supported, runs pershoot's kernel, and gets regular updates.

Well that sucks. I thought someone would want to make a nicely themed ROM or continue to integrate new features into their ROMs. Vanilla ROMs are cool but sometimes its nice to see a pimped out ROM.

I switched from iPhone to Android last August and have been running UnNamed ever since. I love the android. I had wanted to re-flash it with a ICS ROM, but can't find many screenshots of how each rom looks like.
I noticed that the kernel was released for ICS 4.0.3 and lots of ROMS now have this in it.
Can any of you that have tried more than one of these roms comment on which rom you think is better? I'm not sure how to tell the roms apart from each other yet :/
I found and am deciding b/w these: SHOstockv2 ICS, CM9 (Not actual 4.0.3 ICS?), and Phone-Bricker.
I'm looking for a cool-looking ROM with lots of features. Those are my only requirements really when I look for roms.

Hi. We're not going to do vs. threads on new roms that have just come out or have been here for awhile.
Every phone is slightly different and what works great for you may not for the next person. The best bet is for everyone toy the roms for themselves and see what works best for them.
The reason we dont have these vs. threads is because it can very easily (and has in the past) turned into flame wars... because when one person says "I didnt like so-and-sos rom so I moved to this rom" its inadvertently putting down the work of that dev and his rom. It may not be intentional, but it happens. So to avoid that, we just dont do it.

I have been playing around with the custom roms, but found that they were a little buggier than stock and most of the additions in them are available in stock anyway.
Foxhound Rising was my favourite, awesome black theme, and smooth and fast, but as it had no other advantages over stock, I have since put my phone completely back to stock and it's just as good.
All in all I think the custom roms for SGS3 are awesome and almost work perfectly so either way you'd be happy, for me personally, stock is good enough.

I think it all depends on what features you want to be honest as I think they are both as quick as each other
Well... they do come with handy tweaks.
And many tweaks require deodexed roms so you would have to flash a new rom anyway. Might as well.
Some have cool themes or gives you vanilla ics experience (CM9/AOKP/AOSP).
But currently performance and feature wise... Not much at the moment.
One expects a six month old phone to have faster custom roms than stock but not after a month .
The other factor is that you can start to build the fastest rom on the planet and your thread will be flooded with i want themes i want this i want that posts . So many users want just a pretty rom and seem not to care about much else .

How can there be any development for Android 6.0 without the gorram Sources and Binaries. Honor is still holding out, saying they need to beta-test their proprietary ****e. Somehow I kind of doubt that we'll see official Marshmallow/EMUI4.0 before the friggin' year is up.

I am a beta tester and I would guess another month or so. Software is pretty close. So patience, they aren't holding out. They have actually been very forthcoming and helpful to folks here at XDA.
I hope someone with knowledge about kernels would step up and create a custom kernel so that we can overclock and optimize.
Developement is below average. To compare, my HTC HD2 had excellent custom roms available, my Samsung Galaxy Note I had a fair ammount of roms available with most functionality working properly. The Honor 5X currently has no rom with all the basic hardware working (mainly the fingerprint reader). Whatever the reason is, I can say that currently you should not buy this device if you want a custom rom as your daily driver.
Check the custom roms section if you want to see the recent developements. Check out the CyanogenMod roms, since all the others are based upon that AFAIK. If there is still stuff listed as not working (hardware) then wait a little longer or go for another device if you want to have custom roms.
Do not agree with KoeWaffle at all, with exception of fingerprint. Good choice of main custom roms, does not matter if cm based, that can be used as daily drivers... way better than stock!

All current custom roms are CM based. There is pretty much 1 custom rom with many variations available. The device has been out for less than half a year, so it is really not a surprise nor an attack to this community.
This phone offers a slick design and a fingerpint sensor as major selling points. One of it is not working. How does it offer more than a similar phone from another brand then? Despite what others may think of it, I personally really like the fingerprint sensor and do not want to sacrifice it for a more vanilla experience (plenty of other phones offering that from the get go at a lower price). People should just be mindful of it. If they want a different software experience with the samd phone it is just not ready yet...

I for one wouldn't say development is "below average". What would you consider average, for starters? The 5X was, as you said, released quite recently, and we already have bootloader unlocking, TWRP, and root access available as additional options here in the forums, not to mention a (small, ok, but still) number of different custom ROMs including CyanogenMod. To me, there's really not many other "important" things beyond this, except for custom tweaks for every model (the Honor has some as well).
Really, the only "big thing" we'd be missing here on regards to modding would be an easy Xposed install - I say easy because many users have already got it, but afaik it's not a simple flashable .zip but system file editing as well. Not a big deal for a truly tech-savvy person like those who roam the XDA forums, though.
I'm not arguing the selling points; it's true, the fingerprint sensor was a major differentiator considering this phone's market range and price, and many phones have followed the (its?) example. But then again, it's just one feature, and it's already been mentioned multiple times that its implementation is close in time.
I wouldn't advise people to get another phone just because of a lack of fingerprint support on custom ROMs or a kind-of difficult Xposed installation. That is, unless they want to get another phone for like, a month, before coming back and buying the 5X - lol!
Of course, not an attack, just my humble opinion.

1 - Maybe a poor choice of words, what I am implying is the availability of complete and sound roms is below my average experience (that being the HTC Leo / HD2, DesireHD and N7000). In due time we might see complete custom roms, but that time is not now and I do not think we can say yet whether it will happen for sure (the developers are not paid to do this).
2 - It has been close for months now, they're waiting on Huawai to release the sources. Some say the sources have already been released but I haven't checked them out myself. For now it is not available and thus I say the available roms are incomplete.

1-Now that's something I can agree with
2-The sources were released iirc, but as you said developers are not paid for this so it's a game of wait and see
3-I would suggest people give EMUI a try for a while after buying the phone. It's not like I love it, but come on; the specs aren't anything out of this world, I know that, so if you so desperately want a custom ROM that you can't wait for a day- just get another phone, don't even consider the Honor 5X, or any phone that comes with a skin for that matter. Besides, the wait makes it more worthwile imo, how can you know how much better a ROM is than EMUI if you haven't actually run EMUI to begin with? Again, just my opinion...

using honor 5x and 6p from last 4 months have got any update even security patch in honor while in 6p it comes every month...... wer saying that we will get update of android 6.0 in last may but its naw june and no responce.................

Matter of opinion, I respect yours and fully agree with huawei ****ty update policy. At least they open bl and share some sources,which are, at least on qualcomm based huaweis, usable to some extent. I have different opinion on development strength, I see no problem with using crpalmers base (cm) for other ROMs as it working well w/o bugs mentioned by u. The last real things that are to be fixed are fingerprint (on the way,fixed by surdu petru ) and HDR mode on camera.

i was kinda afraid of development due to the fact that it is an honor device,bt now am happy that it has official cm13 and other cm based roms.
Very premium feeling phone for the price range, good features. Don't care that much for EMUI though, it's a bit iPhone-y and limited.
CM12 and CM13 ROMS are well represented here, and hope to see some Nougat/CM14 love here soon
