New to Evo 3D GSM - HTC EVO 3D

Hello,
I got a big sale on HTC Evo 3D (the GSM version). It costed only 300$ without contract.
I owned a lot of Android phones before and i'm not a noob. I was in the testing team for a lot of ROMs.
Since this is my first HTC, can someone explain to me:
- What's HBOOT?
- What's S-ON/S-OFF? Ok, i know it's security ON/OFF, but how does this affect the phone?
- What's the best ROM for the GSM version?
- Why are so few ROMs available?
I installed CWM 5.0.2.0, i rooted my phone and i unlocked my bootloader via htcdev. My HBOOT is 1.49.0018 and my device is S-ON. I have the default firmware (Android 2.3.4, Software number 1.20.401.8).

You were a ROM tester and don't know what hboot or s-on/off is.? Hmmmmmm

Samsung Galaxy i5500 had an unlocked bootloader.
Motorola Milestone had a locked bootloader, but we could bypass the bootloader via some exploits.
LG Optimus 2x had an unlocked bootloader.
Xperia X10 mini pro had a locked bootloader, but we could unlock it via an exploit made by the great the_laser (the master of Sony Ericsson).
When i said ROM tester, i was saying "TESTER". Install ROM, check the functions, check the stability, check the temperature etc.
Do you get it now? It's the first time i have a contact with the HTC phones.
Don't be rude and be happy when a new guy buys the phone. He will be another person who will install the custom roms on the phone. So, another person who can find bugs.

Wasn't being rude, just wanted clarification. I am glad you're here and always welcome new members. Sorry it came across that way.
Welcome aboard in any case

Unlocked Bootloader

ok, so here's the scoop... I just upgraded from the HTC Thunerbolt to the HTC one X then realized i wanted to be able to take m battery out, have external storage and 2 gigs of ram and took the One X back to get the S3.
When i got the One X I rooted and unlocked the bootloader right away and had CleanROM 4.0 on it (irrelevant)
My question is wondering if there is a bootloader to be unlocked with the galaxy s3... I have had HTC phones ever since I used android and so I am learning Sammy's ways with the S3.
Do I only need root access tovflash kernals with this or do i need to wait for a bootloader to be unlocked?
thanks in advance.
I believe the answer to this is that if you're on AT&T, Sprint or TMobile you're good to flash ROM's once rooted. If you're on Verizon you're screwed and waiting for the devs to hack an unlocked bootloader.
Hope this helps
i am on ATT so that does help. thanks!
i do have a few more questions...
What is this about a flash counter? What will trigger this counter? ive looked at this "Root without tripping the flash counter" but i am not sure if it is permanent fix or if it just wont trip it when i root it that one time.
thanks again for you help!

First time LG USER (Apart from Nexus 4) - Bootloader question

Hello!
I have a question regarding the bootloader og the LG G2. Maybe this even applies to previous products.
I've owned the HTC one X and if it was a branded phone you could not flash any stock firmware unless you would get S-OFF.
Now what i would like to know is how this is handled by LG? Can anyone enlighten me?
I'm deciding to pick up this phone and i'm not sure about the bootloader but it's of huge concern to me
Thanks in advance

First:
The Q and A section are for questions
Second:
Loki method was just confirmed for the verizon and AT&T version of this device. All you have to do is flash the recovery via adb (or maybe in the future with goomanager) and flash roms (when they are available. currently they are not)
This has a locked bootloader like the One X but Loki is an exploit that goes around the bootloader without having to unlock it.
Third:
htc one x didnt require S off to flash, it just required unlocking the bootloader via HTC DEV after changing your CID (i think that what it is called) to all 1's. S off is security off, it allows you to do more with the bootloader like remove tampered and unlocked or change your CID to another HTC One X variant to get OTAs
My god I had totally forgotten about the Q&A forum. I apologize. Due to my excitement for the LG G2 i just couldn't resist getting this posted ASAP. Much thanks !

[Q] HTC EVO 3D - Trouble Unlocking, Request for information

Hello from Canada! This is my first post here, although I've been on this site or other sites like it trying to find out how to fix my problem:
I have my old Rogers GSM HTC EVO 3D, running HBOOT 1.53.0007 (S-ON) and Android ICS 4.0, and I'm trying to give it to my friend who's a little short on cash.
Because he's not on Rogers like I am, I need to unlock it so that it works with his carrier. I've spent roughly 4 hours looking up ways to unlock this thing, including S-OFF, Rooting, HTC Unlocking and more, and by now the details are starting to bunch up and get confusing.
I'm not inept, just confused :silly: I'm a desktop/server software engineer and I have both a Linux machine and a Windows desktop at my disposal - that being said, what would I need to do to get this phone unlocked? Would you be willing to list out a few steps, hints or tips to get this rolling? I'd be really greatful.
I don't need anything fancy in the end, just a working unlocked phone.
If have a few other questions too, if you don't mind explaining for me:
How is GSM unlocking related to rooting, S-OFF, and other stuff?
Is a specific version of android tied to HBOOT? As in, can I keep ICS and still run HBOOT 1.49?

If I understand you correctly, your phone is working fine and you need to unlock SIM? If that's the case you don't need to unlock your bootloader, just go to HTCdev site and find SIM unlock tool.
So, answer to your aditional questions is
1. No, you dont need s-off or bootloader unlock
2.H-boot is tied to a specific Androud version but 1.49.xxx h-boot works with all Android versions

[Q]Carrier unlocked phone ..usable roms?

i own a verizon htc one which i carrier unlocked to work on any sim.
I have achieved s-off/unlocked bootloader and rooted my phone.
My question is .. Can I use Roms from HTC One thread on my Verizon HTC one. Both the phones have same specifications so they must be compatible right?

Can you still (as of today) unlock the bootloader on a HTC Droid DNA?

So I am getting a used Droid DNA tomorrow with verizon. I would like to know if there is a possible bootloader unlock that works today. Most phone's don't like unlocking bootloaders but they have a website for this kind of stuff officially created by HTC >> http://htcdev.com >> so I'm sure that there is a bootloader unlock. But I'd like to ask you amazing people if it is still available as of today.
To simplify my wording, can you still unlock the bootloader on a HTC Droid DNA?
Thanks, Piggyuniform!
Yes,and it`s free, first you need to check your CID, if its like VZW__ etc. , you have to change it to HTC__032,there are so many tutorials,of course in xda forum there is a full tutorial how to unlock bootloader, and even you can S-OFF your device absolutely for free, just search.
