[Q] Help !!! Nook Tablet Unroot (serious help needed) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im in serious need of help with unrooting my nook tablet , i have read and tried almost every method of trying to unroot my device and have came to no soulution , what am i doing wrong, i hope someone is willing to help me
So here is what happen : i rooted my nook tablet being unaware what OTA was which i found was about the automted update thats when i got screwed and my root was gone , so i performed the nook&zergy bat file and it didnt make it all the way though as it stood there with no momrnt after i accpted i wanted it rooted , then i repeted the prograsse and
nookzergy said it was rooted, so then i downloaded super user and titamum back up and downloaded honycomb launcher , i then launched honeycomb and installed superuser and titamum superuser doesnt work and busybox says my device is not rooted same with titanum back up , so then i knew something was wrong , i had to check out xda unroot nook tabkrt
fourm and downloaded the nookunroot.apk and ran it , got an error about echojava and then echo wercked or something , i factory restored my device about 10 times each time trying to repeat the process and nookzergy says its rooted but busybox and other programs telling me that my devive is not rooted , i have tryed all types of resets andfactory restore with 8 hard resets and holding power and the home when screen is off to get thr promy come up about fsctory restoring and also tryed the acclaimed update and yes my device is on version 1.4.0 not 1.4.1
Any suggestions you can advise me to help me restore or unroot my nook tablet
Thanx for taking your time in trying to help

You have some options. Try an automated factory reset and that will most definatly do it if you have full access to the device. If this dose not work then I suggest shutting down the device and trying a manual factory reset. If you do not know these combinations of keys or how to find them just ask. Also if this dosent help then you can load a boot reset. If you do not know how to do this just ask.Hope this helps!

Here's some steps to unroot if the automated script fails. First, a reminder that this will put the tablet back to oobe. Read the steps and then re-read to make sure you've got it:
Power down, hold power and 'n' and it'll turn on, then come to the black background with the n logo then power off. Release just the power button and press and hold following the exact steps mentioned above 7 more times.
On the 9th time just use the power button to turn it on and it'll prompt you with some warnings. Follow through with the continue and it will perform the steps.
SECOND WARNING: this will perform a complete factory restore so any installed apps will be gone but it won't touch your SD card.

Hi guys , thanx for your suggestions I'm going tontry all I know ,
But I am very curious ... How do you
A: perform a automated factory reset
Or load a boot reset , hope you can help
Thanx

Hey escc, there is a procedure provided by AdamOutler here. Its not really an automated way of unrooting but will put the NT back to factory settings without messing around with silly boot options (just make sure you delete the file after you're done )
I would recommend checking out the Nook Tablet section of the forum for a whole bunch of suggestions and options.
Edit: the linked steps well not wrote the device only roll the fw back. You well still have to wipe it fully to get the desired effects.

Unfortenly i have alreadty tried that method in the past and no results for me
Any other method could you advise me of ,or will i have to wait for the auomated update to update my device to 1.4.1 ?

search the nook tablet forum for the stock 1.4.0 firmware
place that on a sd card and it should unroot it, worst case scenario as you'll lose everything

Tried it no luck

Let me take a look around for some additional steps. The 1.4.0 file doesn't take you to ootb, it just rolls back the firmware. I had to do additional steps to get myself back up and running. While I'm looking, go into settings, device info, erase and deregister device

There's this command you can run if you can still access ADB
Code:
- echo -n '0000' > /bootloader/BootCnt
I haven't tried this so let me know how it works.

Hi dodgepot
Im pretty much a noob when it comes to
the commands
Could you exsplain step by step what should i do and type in , it would help me alot , im just an idot when it comes to dos based commands , so it would help me if you exsplained them to me in idot proof instructions
Thsnx dodge

Try the reset steps first that I put in the same post. I haven't tried the adb command myself so I'm unsure but will give a try when I get home. What OS is your home computer on? If Ubuntu I'll get you steps to set up adb
If this post helped click the thanks button!

My OS is windows 7
Sure no probleam try the method later when you can and if its a charm guide me step by step
Its so strange how i have tryed serval method and no luck yet , hope my nook tablet is not bricked

Your tablet still functions, yes? If so, not bricked so there's always hope . What does your fw version currently say?
In one post, which ways have you attempted? The 8 reboots _should_ work which will put the tablet back to a stock image.
Sorry for making you do this over and over but im just trying to see exactly where you are in this world.
Thanks in advance,

Lol its alright that i have to repeat steps , i want to thanx you for being so patient with me , really apprecite your help
Yeah my nook tablet still works and functions
Well my version of my nook tablet as of now is 1.4.0
Well i just attemped as what you had said , i desing and erashed in the setting then right after i did your method holding power and `N` down for 8 times then the 9th time just powering it on with just the power button
That was the last steps i did and no cigar
This truly is werid , i mean is there any way i can update to 1.4.1 so it can earased the root like it did in the past ?
Or i dont know it seems very strange , dont think no one has came across my error before ?

Sent you a pm but before responding to that, do the 8 failed reboots again. Wish there was a faster way of forcing the reboots cos it's tedious.
Just to recap:
shut down,
hold power and n
Phone will power on then turn itself off.
Release power
Press and hold power another 7 times, to a total of 8.
Once the device has powered down on the 8th time, with the phone still off, release the n key.
Press just the power key
Follow on screen prompts
Once you've registered, go find the necessary steps to root by indirect and re-download everything.
Run the runmefirst.bat
Connect the nook
Make sure it's showing as an ADB Android device
Run the nook&zergy.bat file and follow the prompts
Make sure it goes through all the steps, including blocking OTA updates
If the last step doesn't come up, look up the steps to block the OTA update.
If all/any of this falls let me know!

[SOLVED][with help of ddotpatel] Something BAD happened with Nandroid Restore - HELP!

Hey,
I have a huge problem, people.
I've had some issues with one of the ROMs that I tested, so decided to restore my Nandroid Backup. I've wiped everything and runned the Nandroid Restore of my previous - working ROM (EzHero 1.2.1) - everything looked as if it worked fine, the operation was completed succesfully. So, given that I've chosen reboot phone option in the Recovery (AmonRa 1.6.2) and it turned on with a regular booting screen and just stuck on it. It's been like 2hrs and I'm constantly stuck on this "loading" screen and cannot turn the mobile off either by holding Power or Power Home or Power Home Back. Nothing. I don't wanna take the battery out as I heard that it can be devastating.
So, to clarify all of that, I have a phone connected via cable (yet no connection through ADB) to PC, so the battery would not discharge and the phone itself is stuck on booting logo/animation, the one just before it goes into the usual desktop screen.
How can I go about it to restore it?
Thanks!
Do you have App2SD ?? If yes it may took ages to boot when you do a first boot... But that only works if you had done a Nandroid + Ext...
Its fine to take your battery out,... Reset and give it another try at booting. If it fails again, try booting without SD in. If it fails again, try doing another restore of your nandroid. Fail again,... Full wipe then reflash ROM.
There is only risk of bricking when flashing a new radio and interrupting the process.

I do have apps2sd but haven't done +Ext.
When I soft-reseted the device it obviously went into boot loop again BUT I have managed to connect it to my PC through ADB now and wonder if I could use it to my advantage?

The problem is my phone IS stuck at boot loop and even if I soft reset it I don't have enough time to press POWER and HOME to go into Recovery so I cannot check if I could do restore. Would connection through ADB help as I currently after soft reset have it?
I have to clear something up my phone is in the boot loop but not as in that it reboots itself time after time - NO! It just sticks on the booting animation and that's it.
Oh, and running this "fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img" through ADB just sits stuck at "< waiting for the device >" though I _can_ list the contents of my Hero through shell.
Also when I press vol up or vol down in the state with startup screen beeing stuck I can hear it same way as if I heard it in the working phone - as in beeping when pressing up and beeping lower when down.
I'm not so clued up on fastboot commands to be honest.
Take your battery out,... Hold HOME and put your battery back in..... KEEPING HOME HELD IN
OK! Finally after finding enough courage to do so I pulled the battery out as ddotpatel advised me to - I have to say it was scary 30s, real scary. Anyway, it seemed that his advice was correct and he is in fact a very wise man - THANK YOU! Afterwards I've done all the wipes again as I did initially and instead of trying to recover it from my Nandroid backup I just gave up and reflashed it again. It didn't work, so I reformated and repartitioned the SD card and it's all good now... And I'm a happy puppy! Actually, I'm no puppy at all but I am happy nonetheless.
@ddotpatel Thank you sir! You are a Gentleman and a Scholar and I shall praise your name forever on this and other Android forums alike. ^__^ Just a quick question though: removing a battery is prohibited only when flashing radio and when the phone's on the "phone & a box/arrow" picture, right? So if I ever have an booting/issue error whilst flashing custom ROMs that do nothing to the radio I should be fine poping the battery?
I know I sad it trice already but - ddotpatel, sir, THANK YOU!

Have you tried wiping Cache Partition and/or Dalvik Cache
When i boot the phone it never fully boots, when it finally gets to my lock screen the android system does not load. I can't do anything at all. I havent tried to root or anything. it just started and there was no reason why
the phone has finally booted to where my homepage would be but its a black screen that says android system on it and thats all. i can get to no apps or anything,
Im going too take a wild guess and say you either tried too install cwm without being rooted or u did not properly unlock your bootloadeR. Which is the case? Because this would not just happen did u read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423

You might have to use rsd lite to flash a stock rom. If you look thru the posts in the dev section you will find what your looking for. I believe the post is labeled but don't quote me, how to root after sbf flash. I know it's something like that.
Read up on using rsd lite it's very easy once you read about it.
Best of luck to you.

Sounds like you should factory reset.
Turn off phone
Hold volume down and press power
Continue holding volume down until it says fastboot in upper left corner
Release volume down
Press volume down until you get android recovery in upper left corner
Press volume up
Find factory reset option ( not sure where since I don't have factory recovery anymore)

it just needs to be configured. No one has taken on this project yet, and wont need to until we get roms so we know what graphics drivers we are looking at. I think.

once rooted male sure you install CWM from Here. it's in a simple APK form now and you can then make a backup of your tablet before attempting anything on it, then if it goes wrong you just press and hold power and N to power up and it will take you to CWM and you can restore your backup
Make sure you report the problem to Chainfire. He needs to know so he can
1. make appropriate changes
or
2. block access to the Nook so as not to cause problems in the future.
Try doing this again to get a UART debug log to him... this would help if he knew where and why it was failing.
edit: sent pm to Chainfire with link to this thread.
So, has it been fixed for Nook Tablet yet? I ask because I'm wanting to run Street Fighter IV (but have the white boxes issue).

LG Intuition root information
Hello to all, I receive my phone on monday, and im coming from a rooted/rom/oc'ed Samsung Infuse 4g, Xoom, SII, and countless cheap tablets all tweaked so I cant wait to get into the guts of this phone but first I need root. Im no dev or coder but definetly not a noob so hopefully somebody takes the file im gonna upload and see if it actually works. Searching by the Japanese name of Optimus Vu p895 I found a "one click'' root for the phone that im gonna post. They also claim to have the bootloader unlocked also to have a custom recovery like CWM but I havent found anything yet about that. I hope the dev's and rom guys get to this phone because to me it looks like the perfect pocket powerhouse imo.
THIS IS MEANT FOR DEV'S OR THE CURIOUS TO SEE IF IT WORKS. ANYTHING HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE IS NOT MY FAULT.
This site was found by a simple google search, and the "super one-click" is meant for Android 2.3.5, hopefully one of you guys can make it work for 4.0.4 I dont get my phone til monday after thanksgiving so ill try it myself then.
the file is not uploading so the site is ninjaromeo . com /root-lg-optimus-vu-p895/

Yeah, no worries. How much do you know about development? I am not new to rooting, but I was so excited about removing bloatware that I removed a little too much and now I'm probably going to have send mine in for warranty. Any chance you know how to pull a system .img so I could reflash mine??? lol
I'll PM you just in case you dont see this.
Yeah I heard that if you remove a certain "bloatware " app it activates another verizon lock app, and once the phone is turned off it locks the phone up. I completly removed all verizon apps and the "lockout" so hopefully i wont have the that problem.
But ive flashed many other devices but i dont know how to put up the system image. It cant be that difficult, im gonna google and youtube it to find out how. I believe there is another thread on xda with the lg intuition system image also. But ill try to get that to you tonight if possible. One quick question....once you have the image how are you gonna flash it?, i thought the bootloader was locked, or is there a program like odin for LG?

Yeah, I'm luckily not locked out of the phone, but it would be nice to have a clean install. The boot loader is locked, and to my knowledge there is no Odin like program, but I was able to pull my .IMG a while ago. I'm hoping I can just push a clean .IMG, hard reset and call it good. I'll check when I get home to see if I can find how I did it.
Update: phone died...charged it up....turned on... received a security error. I deleted Verizon apps or something that triggered this. I returned the phone and within an hour rooted the new one without touching the Verizon apps.
This is not something new with LG phones I'm hearing. But if you go to developer options and turn on CPU stats it annoying to me that the phone is constantly sending messages to LG and Verizon servers and basically going ape**** in the background. So until the bootloader gets unlocked and a Rom is available I'm going with droidwall as a firewall and stock root. I wouldn't touch the Verizon apps or even quarantine IMO.

I finally got mine done. Went with a one click option that I found on youtube. It truly was a one click (well actually two) and it immediately gave me root priv. At any rate, download Titanium and then "freeze" the bloatware that you don't want. This way also prevents them from hogging cache and RAM. But, it doesn't trigger the commie Verizon bootloader locks. As of yet, ODIN does not support this device, but gooManager does. Haven't tried to flash yet, but it's downloaded and just sitting there....I'm afraid to pull the trigger. I wish I could remember the link...I typed "how to root android 4.0.4" and it was like the third or fourth option. I tried and tried and tried JCase's method, but got caught in the shell because it wouldn't verify lgroot.sh file was in place. It was. Looking forward to developing. Im in IT in college as a non-trad so expect a lot of questions you guys.

Can someone help me root my LG VS950 its been updated to 4.04 and I can't get it rooted using Bin4ry or Jcase suggestions so for... Others said it works with the 4.04 update, I just can't figure out what I may be doing wrong... when it gets to the reboot part and ask me to hit restore it starts and stops I about 5 seconds and nothing happens.. I added a pic of what it said when I tried to root using bin4ry method.. hopefully one of you can decipher this for me and help me find a solution...
P.S. and to be clear what USB connection type do I select (MTP, PTP, Internet Connection, or Charging) after I turn debugging mode on. and do I need to factory reset before I root?
Any other minor tid-bits would also be helpfull thanks..
Thanks in advance!
Here is how you fix it.
Power up the phone holding Power, Volume Up and Volume Down until Download Mode appears on the phone.
Connect the phone with the usb cable to the computer.
Use the LGMobile Support Tool and go to Customer Support -> Recovery Phone.
Follow the onscreen instructions from there.
This will download and reload your phone. Takes about 30 minutes total. All data will be lost.
Hopes this helps people.

Does this have anything to do with rooting the phone? Your response was @ no one in particular so i wanted to be sure before followed your directions
This is when you root it and you delete bloatware that it doesnt like. When the phone restarts and it shows that there is a Security Error, Can not find morningcall meaning a soft brick. The method that I gave gets your phone back up and running. It does wipe the phone so be prepared.
It shows the device connected and then I get an error when it is checking the information. It validates the esn, cell phone number, then right before it errors out it says its looking for LG PC-sync software. All drivers are installed. Any ideas?
I successfully got mine rooted but Bricked on restart due to Vz security software. I posted Step by Step restore in case of brick.
Sent from my VS950 4G using xda app-developers app
This method just does not want to work for me......I chose all rooting options and it keeps saying it can't mount, and file does not exist. I will try to post a screen shot when I get home but it is very similar to Peter Bishop but I am not even getting the prompt to add busy box, it says "confirm backup", "confirm restore", and then reboots and says it is done....but Root Checker says the device is not rooted. I am trying this on V31 of the root program.
Here is what is hangs on:
Device type:
1) New Standard-Root <thx Ariel Berkman>
2) New Xperia Root by Goroh_jun <Xperia Z, XperiaV [JellyBean] ...>
3) Old
4) Old-Special <for example: Sony Tablet S, Medion Lifetab>
G) Google Glass Mode <thx Saurik for the ab file>
x) Unroot

Trying to go back to Stock P769

I recently installed CyanogenMod with the Unlock Bootloader for noobs and I noticed the internal SD wasn't mounted. So I tried to flash an ICS ROM to see if it would work but it didn't. I was stuck at the boot screen. I tried restoring an ICS CWM backup and a JB backup but it didn't work. Currently, I have a flashed JB backup with a messed up touchscreen (because of the way I unlocked the boot-loader). It won't boot and I don't know how I can install the stock ROM. I really just want my phone to work at this point. I don't know if there's any way to use the offline method to flash a .kdz since I can't access android. I tried hard resetting, but when I do it starts up Clock Work Mod which I believe happens because of the way I unlocked boot-loader.
I'm trying to use this guide to fix it using SW upgrade. I did find a .bin and .fls which i'm downloading right now.
If anyone could help or give some advice that would be great. I really just want to use my phone, I don't care about flashing a custom ROM right now. As long as my phone works, I'll be happy.

Let me know if this works for you! Also you can do the offline fix just as long as you can get into S/W Upgrade mode. But I am curious to see if you can use the bin/fls files tool that you mentioned to get your phone working again.

Thanks for the reply! I'm planning on trying this method out tomorrow and ,if you don't mind, could you please elaborate on how I can do the offline fix with S/W Upgrade mode? I'll check back on the forum tomorrow!

Well just get your phone into S/W Upgrade mode and follow this tutorial. Getting into S/W Upgrade:
1. Get stock ROM here.
2. Turn off your phone
3. Press and hold the vol + button while inserting USB to computer
4. Keep holding the vol + until you see the S/W upgrade mode
5. Flash ROM with tutorial mentioned above.
Good Luck!

Isn't that just an infobank of all the KDZs? I'm pretty new, but can you flash a kdz with the offline method? To clarify, I was asking how to flash the kdz with the offline method in S/W upgrade mode. So ROMs/KDZs are essentially the same, right?
Edit: I read everything over again and realized what KDZs really are. I'm just wondering now if I could just hard reset in some other way because the LG Update Tool doesn't recognize my phone even though I see all the drivers. It's stuck at 15%.
Edit 2: I tried the method I suggested and it resulted with "Magic number does not concide".
So I'm stuck here with a phone that is stuck in bootloop, and has CWM installed. Can anyone help?

alright, this is all from memory but the offline flash didnt work as well for me when stuck in weird bootloops.
Step one-going back to online flash---->
A---
the easiest way i found was to go to C:/windows/system32/drivers/ect/hosts
right click>open with notepad
there should be two lines at the bottom
"127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com
127.0.0.1 csmgdl.lgmobile.com"
i would cut them out and paste them in a text doc in the same folder for reference later...
but either way you should remove them from the hosts file and save
B----
Make sure your small server is closed! once you minimize it it should go down to your status bar (shttps)
Step two-LGMS---->
make sure you have LG mobile support installed or install it.
open lg mobile support
install needed drivers for your phone
power your phone off/remove the battery
put battery back in
connect it to your computer holding down the volume up button
S/W UPDATE mode should pop up, if it doesn't preform and hardreset and try again til it works (it will)
then in the top right corner there should be a button or two click them both until you see
"restore update" or Update restore or something to that effect
select that
and let it ride man
i got my phone ****ed many times and just had to keep redoing this until it worked. if your bootloader is truely unlocked you can probably go through all that again and get CM10 working, i did but im still working through kinks.....
GOOD LUCK feel free to ask any more Q's about this process if you run into any problems

Hello! Sorry for the late reply. Before I start, do you mean LG Mobile Support form when I unlocked the boot-loader, if not could you provide a link to it? And by the way, when I tried hard resetting, the phone sent me back to CWM, any ideas why?
I was reading the CM10.2 notes yesterday and I realized there isn't supposed to be an internal SD card showing up when you plug in your phone to your PC. So I did tried fixing what wasn't broke.
Anyway, thanks for the info!

Such a late reply, sorry! I did nothing. Before you replied I flashed CM10.2 but never bothered to boot up my phone. Preparing to connect my phone to my comp, I couldn't start CWM so I figured " I'll just leave my phone plugged in for a few hours." Two hours later, my phone has a blank screen, i'm thinking "This shouldn't be blank? What the hell?." I pressed the power button and was greeted with Cid. I screamed out loud: "**** yeah!"
If people have the same problem as me all I did was: Reflash my my phone with 10.1, stock, 10.1 again, and then 10.2. I did that, only that.
What's funny is that I never checked to see if my phone was working after I flashed CM10.2. :silly:
Can't wait for Kit-Kat. Thank you for keeping up with my post, CROSSFREEZE I appreciate it!
Edit: I might submit a really specific and simplified version of the "Unlock Bootloader for Noobs P769" for the take of contributing.
