[Q] Just rooted. Please help me out - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am very new to all of this. I have posted a few things already about getting webtop over HDMI. I think i am closer. I have the apk files for dockservice and portalapp on my phone using root explorer. It doesnt let me change the permissions or install the apk. I dont really know how to do ABD on a mac. what am i missing?

When using Root Explorer, are you selecting "R/W" at the top before trying to change permissions?

I also have changed two of the .odex files to .bak but i could not find the third. Then I try to install the .apk files and they will not download. I don't know where to go from here

Hi there
You should not install the .apk's like normal installation.
Just copy them into the folder, change the permissions, and rename the 2 files.
Reboot.
remember to remount the folder as R/O after you changed the permissions.
Cool

This is gonna make me sound stupid but is there a special way to reboot? Or do you just turn off the phone?

I turned my phone off and back on and now when I plug in the hdmi cable I get no popular but my monitor instead of saying no hdmi signal, it shows a black screen but recognizes something. I feel like im getting closer!

When you plug it into the monitor, does it do anything on the device? Or nothing?
Try another HDMI port, if your TV has 2....

I only have on hdmi on my monitor. Before trying to do this i could go into entertainment center. but now i do not get that poppup nor does it show up in my notification bar

Cool, what OS version do you have one your phone 2.2.2 or 2.3.4?

i have 2.3.4

Which build version are you using under system->about phone->build number?
Make sure you are using the right files for your phone. Should be 3 different sets of files available in the zip file from the original post.

I am on 4.5.91. I may have put the wrong files on. Shall i delete all the wrong ones and do what i did before?

I just redid what i did before with the correct files. here is the moment of truth...

it is doing the exact same thing as before did i miss a step?

I just want to make sure. Your using the files from the AT&T folder correct? Did you reboot your phone? Did you set the correct file permissions?
Hope it works out for you.

I got my files from Version 4.5.91 Users Go HERE: (This works now.) ATRIX 4.5.91 WEBTOP MOD FILES
i also rebooted and set the correct permissions

Try this instead:

And i do not ever install the apk's?

Fascinate's Live Wall Paper

I have attached fascinate's live wallpapers.
The fascinate live wallpapers aren't found on any other variant(s) of samsung galaxy s including the vibrant.
push each individual APK to /system/app and also push lib to system/lib
you can push using root explorer or adb or any other file manager type of program
(root explorer is the best imo)
Again, not responsible if anything happens to your phone etc etc
ENJOY!!
No dice, didn't show up when I installed them.

Why does this need to be flashed? Do they overwrite the stock ones or something? Oh yeah, my phone came with the luminence one.
Thanks for the link, the Fascinate looks just like our phone! Ha, anyway I'm going to just adb push the files, seems easier than a recovery flash

No, it doesn't overwrite anything. You can open up the zip file and install the individual apk files, but you have to push the liblwfa-0.A.2-mng-p1.so file to your /system/lib/ directory before any of them will work.
wait.
where do i move the .zip to?
What I did was open up the zip file and went into the app folder and copied all the apk files over to my phone and installed them one by one. Work for me that way. BTW love the wallpapers!

I also would like to see some.
Ok so I tried flashing this, and the wallpapers didn't show up. So I tried copying the .so file to system/lib folder and installed each .apk individually, so now they show up, but force close when I try to use them.
Anyone have any idea how to get this working, cos it seems to me that out should be good one way or another now.
Thanks

Hi. My name is Jess, and I love my Vibrant. That is all.
Here are some screens I made. I think they're kinda "girly", but to each their own.

I have to agree with that statement sir.
theres plenty more Facinate live wallpapers that put the vibrant to shame.... can someone port from the facinate dump?

Jess, your problem is that the APKs need to be pushed into /system/app - you can't install them, they'll show up, but won't work. Try uninstalling them and push each file to /system/app.
just as rdauque says, push each individual apk to /system/app. DON'T INSTALL THEM OR FLASH.
also, some devices might need the lib to be push to system/lib.
you can use root explorer or adb to push these files.
works like a charm

Nothing wrong with girly wallpapers, some of us (admittedly nerdy) girls actually use android =)
Anyway, I really love the spark wallpaper, but honestly, I've always preferred purple over pink, so I colored the background for my liking.
Anyway, flash/push the original zip contents to your phone, or at least the .so file to /system/lib, then copy/push this to /system/app for my purple Spark mod.
Cheers,
=)

Just move the apk files using root explorer to system/app and it will appear in your live wallpaper files.

Boot Sounds, Help Please!

Cannot get my boot sound to work. I successfully changed the BootAnimation, but the BootSound does not work.
Tried - putting bootsound into /system/media/notifications, then /system/media alongside the bootanimation, and both have not worked. Renamed file .ogg too both times.
Running CM7 Bat2f, Motorola Atrix 4G. Any help is appreciated!
Try putting it into /system/media/audio/ui
Maybe that will work.

Just tried that now, rebooted, and still did not work. Thanks anyways.
You can do this manually also,
Please bootanimation.zip in /system/media and changing permissions to rw-r-r
And place the sound [.ogg] file in system/media and changing permissions to rw-r-r
Do not forget to rename the old boot animations to .bak, so that you can revert back anytime
You can find some cool boot animations with sound in below links for Atrix as flashable zip,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423763&highlight=boot+animations
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185339&highlight=boot+animations
/system/media/
I tried manually putting the files using Root Explorer in the /system/media and /system/media/audio/notifications, and the permissions were fixed every time, but still no sound plays.
My speaker works fine, btw. Again, bootanimation plays fine, just not the sound, which is non-existent.
EDIT: I'm using the Spider Pig bootanimation. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227598
Are you sure the audio file is named correctly? There should also be no "spaces". Maybe it was a bad download, have you tried re-downloading the files and trying?

CM7= no bootanimation sounds
CM7 does not support bootanimation sounds, which is why you aren't able to get it working.
*Edit*Dude, I just answered this for you a couple days ago.
Yeah I know, but after google searching, I see many other individuals who are able to use boot animations/ sounds in their CM7. But none of their instructions worked for me.

Thats the instructions I followed. I'm 99% sure I did it correctly. Yet it still doesn't work.
Also, after doing this, I went to bed. I remember seeing the battery at ~45% so I didn't charge overnight. I woke up in the morning to see the battery at 5%. Wtf?! This never happened before.
Well, the link you provided states that the file needs to be in mp3 format and you said you changed it to ogg. Also, have you ran the script that is provided from the link through terminal emulator? You didn't specify if you did this step. Although it says you can just place the file using Root Explorer it still says you have to run the script from the sd card.

The things I mentioned in an earlier post was a different method I tried.
When doing the method I just linked to, I uninstalled the bootanimation.zip, which includes the sound file, and reintalled, effectively starting from scratch. And yes, when following the steps in the link, I competed all of them, including the terminal emulator.
Well, when asking for help you have to be more forthcoming with the details and provide the links up front so we all know what you are trying to do and how you are trying to do it.
Either way, I'm stumped. Good luck.

Yeah sorry, I'm not much of a forum poster, I'll be sure to do so next time I have an issue.
If anyone with an Atrix CM7 wants to try this on their own, using the link, let me know how it went!
Ok guys, I downloaded a different .mp3 file to try and use as my boot sound.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048231
So, I finished steps 1-3, now how do I adb push my .mp3 file from the adb tools folder on my computer to the /system/media folder on my phone? I want to try it this way instead of the root explorer way.
Please be clear with any instructions, I'm not exactly advanced in this subject
Thanks!!!

From what you say and the link it seems maybe the txt file in bootanimation.zip isn't pointing to the correct audio file. Probably the name of the file is wrong.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I checked the file, and it wants it as Spiderpig.ogg, which I tried before. ADB pushing is giving me errors that it cannot find the file in the location i selected, but it's in there.
Cd C:/Android/Android-sdk/platform-tools
adb remount
adb push android_audio.mp3 /system/media
I placed the .mp3 in the platform-tools folder, no idea whats wrong.
NM.............I just read through the script, and don't see anything wrong with it.
You should just use Root Explorer. It's fast, easy, and works.
I'll give this a try in the morning myself to see if I can get it to work.
Tried Root Explorer many times, using different sound files, renaming them, putting them in different folders, basically whatever could work, and nothing did. Which is why I'm trying the ADB method.
Boot sound isn't THAT important to me, but I like the challenge of trying to get it to work.
I should try on this on my CM9 HP Touchpad. Will post the results.

stock 2.3.5 hot seat white background removal?

I dont know what the hot seat background is. But you cant just delete things straight from an apk using your phone and make it go away if thats what you are trying to do. You would have to take the apk file, put it on your computer, decompile the apk remove the image and re compile and sign it so it can be installed on your phone again. At least this is my understanding of it.

I wouldnt know. I've never done it. I hear you can use 7zip and just remove and add images from it without actually unzipping the file and losing the signature. Then just put it back on your phone. But again, I've never done that either.

I copied the blurhome.apk to my sd card with root explorer, then opened the archive with 7zip and deleted the .png, then moved the file back, pasted, and overwrote the apk. This caused a fc and now the phone will not boot into the launcher, even with a wipe. SBF-ing back now. did i do something wrong?

Accidentally hit the "Thanks" button. You got a free thanks. lol. Anyway, did you change permissions back to what they were? They should be the same as all the other apps in that folder. Maybe replacing the image with a transparent one would be better than deleting it. It may simply just not work as well. Also, do a backup of your ROM so you can just restore it if something goes wrong. Its faster than SBF'ing.

[Q] How do I fix this

I edited the build.prob file change lcd density to 720. now I can't access phone
If you know how to use adb, and have USB Debugging or a custom recovery set up, you might be able to pull the build.prop, edit it on your computer, push it back, change permissions, and reboot to resolve. You aren't able to access your apps or anything like that, I suppose?

Am try to that, using DroidExplorer but after editng the build.prop the changes are not being saved. I thing usb debugging mode is disabled and I cant access anything in my phone. my device doesnt show in" fastboot devices"command when I use the ADB
fastboot devices only works in fastboot/bootloader mode and adb works when booted (with USB Debugging enabled) or via most custom recoveries. Did you install a custom recovery or just root? If just root, it might just be easier to return the device to stock and reroot.

If you are running any custom rom..extract that zip...copy that build.prop to sd card...now using Root Explorer on your phone copy it and head on to /system...delete the build.prop and paste the new one..and Reboot.
P.S.:Remember to Mount R/W before pasting it.

Don't think he can use his phone well enough to make that work. according to the way the pictures look, which is why I didn't suggest that one. All apps are going to be like that and it's not something you can scroll around in like you would if you zoomed in on the browser or something similar.

[Q] Need stock media_profiles.xml file

Could somebody provide me with the default "media_profiles.xml" from their /system/etc path? I did something and now things aren't working well.. I was also stupid and forgot to back up my original.
I believe
Code:

should work on restoring the file once I have it, right?
Also, on an "unrelated" note, the camera mod from THIS thread doesn't work on our phones.
