Yes, CoPilot and Sygic are good enough to compete with TomTom.

Could you please give examples on how does Copilot and Sygic compete with TomTom ? I have tried both and I still keep looking forward a TomTom on Android.
Starting with Sygic:
It was crashing so much on my Galaxy S2 during the trial that I didn't need to bother to buy it for further testing.
Copilot Live Premium was the best for Android and I actually bough it.
Among the many interesting features, Copilot allows you find alternative routes according to the traffic information (paid service but worth it). The most unique feature that I couldn't find in any other Android navigation software was the "Drag the route or destination to fine-tune your itinerary" where you can adjust the route like in the Google maps on your desktop, defining waypoints to avoid typical congestion points like road works or temporarily closed roads.
Overall Copilot is nice but there are some serious TomTom features missing like:
-TomTom HD Traffic
-Map Share technology (continuous TomTom and User map fixes). This is a serious missing feature.
TomTom is very basic in compared with other competitors but it is very stable.
they are working on release for android. you may refer from this link... last year's news anyway...
i stopped using my tomtom over 6 months ago and now use google maps with the pocketgps speed camera app, no need for tomtom

I have both Sygic and igo on my Samsung (incase one crashes in the middle of nowhere!) and find both excellent, but prefer Sygic although its heavier on system resources. (Sygic is closest to tom tom since it actually uses tom tom maps!)
I´m not a big fan of TomTom, but i had it one my Winmo and my iPhone and i can compare it to Sygic, iGo(Winmo) and Copilot.
TomTom misses some important things, like giving you proper information where exectly you have to go (street name, direccion).
BUT: Where i live, it´s the only navigation system, google maps/navigation included that finds the best routes. All others come with crappy results and Sygic and Navigon are mad.
How i see if TomTom works by loading maps from a storage device (sdcard) and Google maps uses ur internet to download up to date maps from Google servers.
So if they it's a new highway TomTom would not see it till you update the maps on your own while it auto does it for Google maps...
Im not sure about the other to.. Copiloet is not free and idk how it works its between 9.99 and 52bucks

Google Maps isn't always up to date. Still yet to see the new roads in my area which a new housing estate was built on two years ago.
edit: just checked Bing's maps and they have the new roads mapped
Coming from WinMobile to Android, I'm also waiting for TomTom.
Google Maps? No way. Not everywhere you go, here in Canada, has good cell phone reception. Don't mention data plans are expensive.
I have tried Sygic or Navigon. Both have problem in their stability and navigation engines. I won't trust either when driving in cities with lots of twists and turns.
I'm using IGo. So far, I like it the most and it's my own navig. device. Stable, and accurate directions. Easy to use like TomTom. It's even better in address search given their intelligent keyboard input eliminating those letters/numbers not found in the neighborhood involved.
TomTom is the best in that it's stable, accurate, no-nonsense, clean and intuitive interface.

Google Maps lags up to several years behind Tomtom PNA's.
Tomtom uses TeleAtlas maps, which it owns.
Bing Maps uses NAVTEQ.
Two different companies providing different maps at different intervals.
Waze and Navigon are both excellent.
No one uses Ndrive??

I routinely use my Titan browser to look up the address of a business, then put that address in a GPS Navigator program to navigate to that address. I was wondering what you all think is the be all/end all program to complete this task. I've been using iGo 8 as it's got by far the best interface and maps, though you can't look up a business while in the program. I've also used Google Maps which does a great job of looking up the business address, but a crap job of navigating you to it. Finally, I've used Yahoo Go! a little bit, which is ok, but not the best. I welcome all your opinions...
Mapquest Navigator does a good job for me after using SprintNav for a long time for free....... Lots of feature and 50 bucks a year is alright.
i use tom tom 7 with maps usa & canada works great locks in 5 seconds in the basemant also names and addreses i am gettin from live search and save them in contacts list so its easy to navigate in tom tom
Not sure if its the best, but I've been very happy with iGuidance.
Once I got gpsGate and aGPS it has been flawless.

My guess is they say that because Verizon locks down the gps so you can only use it with VZ Navigator, but if you're on this site, I'm sure you have enabled it on your XV6800, so I would still give it a try.
Microsoft Live Search.
It does a great job at searching and the routing isn't bad either. It only has a 'ding' as you approach a turn, no voice navigation.
I have TomTom and hate it. IMHO, Live Search is very good compared to TT.
I'm a Garmin XT user my self. I've loaded City guide and Topo maps on it so if I'm in the city or out in the woods I've got it covered. It uses the same maps and charts that have been produced for Garmins other devices. I haven't looked in to it yet but the Ocean navigational charts should be able to load on there also.
Due to my rural location data is not reliable. When hiking hundreds of miles from the nearest tower its not even an after thought. So i prefer to have all of the map data located on my 8gb HCSD. The entire Island of Newfoundland is ~20 mb for each map.
The Dir. on the device is 4.8 mb (for V5) the rest is on the card.
The City guide maps are the most detailed i have seen yet. Many of the smaller roads in my area were not on Tom Tom.
The down side is that it costs quite a bit. I have mapsource software from other devices so it wasn't that much for me. I have seen reference to a "re-pack" from other discussions, located on the torrent sites but that's at your own risk.

Sprint Navigation is also great for a free app....
TT7 is my software of choice. i dont know about anyone else, but i kinda like variety in my GPS, so i pretty much have all of them and pick and choose based on what im feelin and whichever one i press first.
I've tried a number of programs:
iGO: Beautiful maps, great interface, good voice prompts, very accurate... but it's a HUGE memory hog. You can't do anything else when running it. I've even had my phone fail because of lack of memory. Not acceptable if I can't make and receive calls.
iGuidance: Very low memory usage. Accurate. Buttons are small, hard to use when in the car. Graphics are not great looking. I had some quirks with the display when switching between Landscape and Portrait modes.
TomTom: Graphics are better than iGuidance, not as good as iGo. Buttons are large and easy to use in the car. Accurate. Memory usage is low. I was able to plot and follow a 2.5 hour trip and play my music with Media Player without an hitch in TomTom or the music.
All things considered, I'd love to use iGo, but the huge amount of memory usage makes it a not go for the Titan's wimpy 64megs. TomTom uses a lot less memory and is only a small step down from iGo's graphics.
Garmin Mobile XT with the newest patch/ver
I am useing Garmin Mobile XT and am on ver 5.00.20wp and it works great and new features integrate onling functions very well. Graphics are best I have seen and it gives gas prices, locations, speed limits, cameras, and google looks up stuff thats not in your database of poi's.

Another vote here... Garmin Mobile XT seems to integrate the best of the online services (gas prices, traffic, etc) with the ability to be used as a true standalone GPS (not reliant on a data connection). I travel a few places where I lose my data connection (no phone service at all) and Garmin doesn't even blink, with all the map info stored on the microSD card.

IGO 8 is by far the smoothest, sexiest and quickest recalculating map and trust me I have used them all.
Cons: You must disable everything running in the background before using. I have never had a problem with receiving calls. I leave my bluetooth headset hooked up while navigating so my device can remain in holster. Just do a soft reset before you run the program run oxios hibernate and if you have about 25 megs free initially I drove 2600 miles with it recaluculating and just sitting still while I went in no problems.
Garmin XT is my second choice because I find it easy to use and very dependable.
Live Search and Google Maps require internet connection and were useless in the smokey mountains, except to prime agps.

I have Garmin XT and it's great. I also use Google maps from time to time, it's better if you want to check out an area you kind of know real fast and also it has the sat maps which can be nice sometimes. But for actual naviagation Garmin blows Google away. Memory is sometimes an issue but with the latest DCD 3.2.6 it's less and less of a prob.

I roam about a lot in the city on my bike now! ( and I get lost a lot too! new city .. )
so, I was thinking.
So whats one good Navigation software that has:
Voice navigation (optional)
Turn by turn directions (required in text atleast!)
Offline maps (must!)
<GPS assist is must! for the accuracy..>
City road maps (e.g. Bangalore, India)
Please suggest.
(Offline maps to ensure min battery usage..)

Google Maps or NDrive
Google maps navigation supports all of the features you asked but the offline maps download automatically from a round you and it caches them so you can't always be shure that they are always there.
But if you defiantly need offline use NDrive, it is not for bikes but it is good and quite cheap and very fast, I use it all the time with my streak

Not sure if CoPilot is in your area, but it works quite well here in north america. I attempted to use it in Mexico, and the results were less than stellar.
A free option is Navit, which can work alongside with Google Maps, so you can get a starting and end point that works. Navit's maps are all on SD. It's a work in progress but does include TTS.

SYGIC MOBILE MAPS FOR INDIA is al you are going to need.

It has very good reviews of all the different (on-line and off-line) navigation applications that are available on Android.
(In the UK, I am using NDrive quite happily, although it's not as good as TomTom under WM6. I wish that TomTom would produce an Android version.)

and it works Perfect. Actually i use 3.5.4 with 3D Maps. I got fully Europe and USA maps also available.

I have currently the Epic 4g Touch from Sprint and i'm using google navigation and was wondering if there were other options that are better, that post speed limits and such? I heard telenav and navigon were pretty good? Any suggestions?
Telenav is good, but not as good as Google Navugation. Neither to my knowledge post speed limits, or even give you your current speed. That would be a nice feature. I use Google Nav myself.
I've tried a number of different apps but I always come back to Google Maps + Navigation. It works just about everywhere and supports offline. I just haven't found anything that is "better enough" to switch.
Did you try NAVIGON? A friend of mine used it and he loved it..

Google Maps is definitely the best. If your GPS is acting wonky, I like GPS AIDS. Seemed to fix me right up on my Streak.

Hi I am using Sygic Aura..it works gr8 on my SGII...you dont need an active data connection...I would really recommend this....
I aam using Sygic Mobile Maps 10 on my wildfire and it is very good!It also says the speed of the vehicle and also estimates the time remaining to arrive!
I have tried the Mapquest app for Android, but nothing beats Google Navigation Beta.
Anyone try out waze? I have it but it currently force closes on ICS, so hopefully they a fix out for ICS...lifehacker really liked it.
How about a GPS that can plan a detour for you? Often I'd like to find a good place to eat on the way to a client. I saw a couple in the market, but they were both totally broken. Yelp integration would be sweet too.
I found Trapster has pretty accurate speed limits on it's GPS system. Most everything works well and then there's the added benefit of seeing where the PoPo hide in unfamiliar territory.
Places (the big Red exclamation point) that comes on a lot of Android phones now, seems to do a good job finding restaurants in new places. Just tell it what your craving!

Sygic Navigation is very good and has got all good features mentioned by others here. You can customize it as per your own settings and very accurate in terms of map.
Google Navigation has given me issues, but NAVIGON usually works very well for me.

I agree.....Navigation by Google has worked very well for me. I travel the country quite a bit.

It has been a long time since Asus and Garmin released the first Garmin for Android navigator, but it seems that there is no further "hacking" performed to customize Garmin for ALL android devices...
I can now even see a Garmin Navigator in the Google Play store, but it seems to be for Australia only.
Anyone has any info regarding the progress either of the official Garmin Nav for android, or a hacked version of it?

P.S. I live in Greece and, as expected, we will propably be one of the last countries to be supported by Google Navigation, so using a third-party navigation software is a one-way. I have purchased NDrive 11, but compared to my old symbian Belle Garmin software, it is really inferior...

Hey why dont you try sygic instead,Its like the equivalent to garmin and you can download maps worldwide.
Yeahh..why xda developers did not interested to cracked this software? I think garmin is the strong one gps software for navigation.

This is the part where everyone swears you can just use the default gps apps and be fine, I hear ya, I want full onboard maps for the times your out in the boonies and cant get a signal, gps will still work...The bottom line is, there is no true garmin for android...Im coming from an iphone and had garmin on there so I wish it was...they have some offline nav like all the others.I have researched the crap out of this whole gps thing, and for some reason the big boy gps guys didnt want to mess with creating one for android, at least not yet. So the best you will get for offline maps and it actually is owned by garmin now is Navigon. My guess is they figure Navigon is already setup and they own it now, so why create a Garmin app that does the same thing. I prefer garmin the same as most would, but for now this is the best you can do.
I am planning on using my Prime in the car and would like to know what is the best "offline" alternative to Google Navigation. I have heard about Sygic but do not have personal experience with it.
Any suggestion?

You are able to download the Google maps for offline use, have you tried doing that with your tablet? All it should need after download is GPS...

Well, it's not that simple actually. You can't download entire maps. You can pre-cache 10 square mile areas around locations.
Works well if you know where you're going .

Sorry, I wasn't aware of that. How do I do that? All I see is an option to cache map area. How can I cache the whole USA map ?
try Orux maps from the market, its an open source alternative and as far as I am aware you can create maps of any size for offline use. And its free (or donation!).

Have you looked into the new additions to Google Maps? I think they're increasing the offline capabilities (according to their talk yesterday or the day before).

Although google maps is excellent and the new features are needed, orux maps includes google maps within along with just about every other map source available.
I havent heard of any apps that do offline route planning and navigation though, thats a different story.
Oruxmaps looks good but I don't think it does what I'm looking for. I need complete "turn by turn" navigation offline (just like car navigation ).

I bought sygic. There's a free time-limited market d/l and my USA upgrade was $20. I've used it on one trip and it was very a functional turn-by-turn experience. Maps are by Tom-Tom.
i wish you could cache more than 10 square miles in google maps... 10 just never seems like enough!
Downloaded the trial version of Sygic and took it for a spin. Without the GPS dongle I lost GPS connection randomly but with the dongle I was able to complete a 10 mile journey with Voice guidance without any issue.

Well, SYGIC is great. Me and a collegue both tested NAVIGON and SYGIC and SYGIC is by far the winner!
Google Maps "offline" is not recommendable. You only will download a 10x10 tile. Not more!
Google announced they will be adding full offline support (not just a 10x10 tile), but it's not out yet.

ZANavi for android.
It's a fork from NAVIT. Free, using free Openstreetmaps, you can download entire countries, or even the whole world lol. There is a possibility to donwload only a limited region on navit's website (google it).
Not as sexy as paid versions but it does the job.
And people speaking about google maps please provide correct info. Offline maps in it is only an anounce, with no ETA.
I use GoPilot Live Pro and like it. I think they have a free version you can try, but eventually, you will want to go to the PRO version. If you find a map error, you can submit a correction to them and they will fix it. In addition to that, I also run WAZE...it's an online map service, but has the best info on Police/traffic congestion/accidents because it's totally based on user reporting. I don't know why, but their routing is attrocious. I use CoPilot for my directions, and check in on Waze to check the road conditions ahead. To use Waze, I just tether my phone to the Prime.

I haven't really used it myself for navigation, but Osmand is superb for viewing maps and tracking. It is easy to download vector maps for each country from within the app and there is a wide variety of online maps. The navigation is provided by Cloud made, YOURS, OpenRouteService, or the offline option.
I've tried Navit, and it works, but the UI is disgusting.
