Wifi Problem - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

For some odd reason, if I leave my wifi on overnight while not connected to a wifi network, I can't seem to connect to a wifi network without rebooting my NT. has anyone else experienced this problem?
If I try to turn off the wifi from settings, it says "unable to stop wifi"
not sure what is causing this...
any ideas??

No idea, but have seen that as well. And one other user I know mentioned he has the same issue. Occasionally the Nook loses WIFI and needs a reboot.

Mine takes quite a while after it has been in standby to re-connect to a wifi network, but never had to reboot. There is the location in quick settings to turn off wifi and then in main settings. Have you tried both locations? Could also just be a major fluke that takes factory reset to fix. Sorry I cant have a better answer for you.

Same issue here. Are you guys rooted?

My drops too, but allows me to disconnect and reconnect. It is rooted, don't know if that makes a difference.

This is not a daily occurrence with my Nook. Maybe 60% of the days. The status indicator mostly shows no signal, though I've seen it show a signal on occasion. In all instances settings list of WiFi sources is empty & I'm unable to turn WiFi off. Device reports "Can't stop WiFi" Reboot squares it away.

Seems like a trend. Anyone know if the problem is fixed with 1.4.1 rooted?

I'm using 1.4.1 rooted and I've never had this problem. Of course, I don't really know if the problem existed for me before the update since I did the update and root together.

Every morning I have to do a reboot. Trying to turn off wifi results in "unable to stop wifi" or something like that. I'm on rooted 1.4.0

WiFi will not stay on.

I have to constantly toggle Wifi on and off all the time. I know it is a known issue but is it as common as mine is? Is there any fix to this? I hope it is a priority of CM7 developers cause it is making android on the touchpad pointless.
LoL, I tried to post this but guess what? Wifi off again. Here we go...

Yes everyone experiences this quite often... its why is is a known issue. Its also why so many threads on the issue exist. Its also why its in the Common issues and problems thread at the VERY top. People wouldn't have so much emphasis on it if it wasn't common.
Make sure you set your Wifi Sleep policy in Wifi advanced settings to NEVER.
The problem I am having is that I can connect to a network. Says the normal optaining ip address, then it says connected, but I have no internet connection. I do have internet connection on multiple devices running on the same network. Did I miss something in the settings for wifi? Thank you
This guy also suggests changing the hostname to something more palatable to some routers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319838
Not sure if it'll help, but I've made this change myself. We'll see...
I'm running Android without any problem with WiFi, but, I do run Regpon to keep it "alive".
It may help unless you are talking about problems with Webos!
Wifi is basically useless to me on Android. It will work for a couple minutes, crap out, say it's connected yet provide no connection, etc. I'm just going to stop worrying about it until an update is out.

I had WiFi working for a bit after first installing CM7, but after it went to sleep' I can't reconnect. I get force closes when I try editing WiFi settings. I've tried rebooting multiple times, toggling wifi on and off, airplane mode on and off, etc. It refuses to reconnect. It shows "connecting” briefly, but never actually does.
Can't do much of anything with no wifi... It was great while it lasted though.
Search is your friend people..... Known issue but there is a temp fix you need to do once and you will be fine until the next time you reboot. Leaving wifi on, press your network and tell your tp to forget it. Now turn wifi off. Turn back on, select your network, enter key and you are good to go until you reboot. Easy fix.
If wii settings is running real slow, no worries, do above steps pressing buttons only once and wait, it will catch up. If you pop up says it is not responding, click wait, it will work. Remember you only have to do this on reboots.

Thanks, but it also doesn't work for me. I had already searched, found that method (aside from already thinking of it and attempting it myself), but I get force closes every time and clicking wait doesn't help. It never allows me to click "Forget Network". It just cycles through Force Close when I try to get the menu to pop up allowing me to click on "Forget Network".
I downloaded an app called softlocker and it keeps the unit from going to sleep in all ways. I have noticed a huge improvement
We are clearly talking about 2 different problems here.
1) The known issue where WiFi is rock solid whilst using the touchpad, but if you let it go into deep sleep it will turn off and not come back until the wifi is cycled
2) This guys problem where he is randomly being disconnected whilst using his pad. I recommend getting the latest firmware update for your home router and also "temporarily" turn off all WiFi security connect your pad and see how it reacts, just to make sure this is not a security issue.
My Wifi crapped out a couple times last night. I was playing with Airplane Mode. After turning off Airplane Mode it works flawlessly again.
If it keeps searching / obtaining ip, put in the correct password.
I seem to have fixed the issue by changing my router from WPA to WEP security. Haven't dropped my connection in over 24 hours. Perfect.
Edit: 48 hours now, never dropped wifi.

[Q] Everyone still getting Wi-Fi disconnects?

I haven't noticed anyone talking about it lately. Has everyone just accepted it or is there a fix that I've missed? Mine still does it at my house.
Once or twice a week I notice my wifi and Bluetooth both drop off at the same time. They come back in a bit so it's really not a big deal for me.

Yes WiFi and 3g disconnects.
I'm still getting them pretty often actually.
Often here also. To often imo
Sent from my EVO LTE
Cool thanks for replying guys. It happens so often at my house that it really makes it difficult to get much done. I would just use 3G, but lord have mercy is it slow. I'm assuming HTC will fix it in a software update, right? Right? Right? lol
It use to happen to me all the time until I changed the frequency band settings from "Auto" to "2.4GHz only"
Edit: it doesn't drop if I set it to "5GHz only" also
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Yeah i've tried that trick but it still disconnects like crazy. The weird part for me is that it only happens at my house with my router. So maybe it's disagreeing with my router for some reason. But I've had 4 different phones, a laptop, and my wife's iPhone all connect to the home WiFi with no problems and no disconnects.
Hmmm, hadn't thought about the frequency setting; I'll try that and let you know if it works for me. Might be one of those "your mileage may vary tricks"
Possible Fix
I was also having issues with WiFi disconnecting. (Not often) My main issue is that I wouldnt receive notifications from apps while on WiFi and screen was off for more that 45mins putting the phone into "sleep" mode (GTalk, Gmail, Facebook, etc) unless I turned on the screen. I installed this app from the Play Store "Hidden Settings" Dev. Derek R Reynolds which puts a "Power Saver Settings" app in the app drawer. It gives you access to a hidden menu that you can't normally get to. While in the App I unchecked "Put Data Connection to sleep" and that has resloved my issues. I haven't seen the WiFi get disconnected and I am receiving my notifications like normal. I have only had this solution for 1 day so I will report back if there are any other changes.
My Phone not Rooted.
I do not take credit for this possible solution. All creadit goes to the Dev's that figured this out. I simply read about it on another thread..

WiFi does not restarting after sleep

I have been impressed with CM11/4.4.2. Runs well for being so new and not yet having an officially 'stable' version yet.
The one issue I have had is with the WiFi restarting after sleep.
KeepWifiOnDuringSleep is set to OnlyWhenPluggedIn. Whenever the tablet is awoken the WiFi stays disabled. Manually turning it off then on again will get it to reconnect but only for a short time, maybe a minute, before it permanently disables again. Only way to fully recover is to reboot.
Note that WiFi is be reported to be 'disabled'. It does not appear to be an issue of connectivity, wireless lease, no signal...
Anybody else experiencing this?
I successfully use an app called WiFi Fixer to reconnect after sleep.

That's been an on-and-off issue for ROMS going back to CM7. The work around has been to turn off WiFi before the screen turns off. Many folks have been using AutomateIt or Tasker to handle this automatically.

(SOLVED) Wi-Fi turning itself off regularly. Is this a known bug???

Something that has been annoying me since the day I bought the tablet (LTE SPG 521)
When the tablet has been idle for a while, the WiFi turns itself off.
So whenever I pick it up without thinking, open chrome to start web browsing, I am connected to internet, and things are fine until I realise that I have been using 3G instead of WiFi.
Most of the time I need to go into shortcut quick access from pulling down top right corner and turn WiFi on.
Sometimes I need to go into WiFi settings and turn it on, even though the quick access shortcut says WiFi is on.
I do have stamina mode on, but have disabled every other power saving feature related to WiFi. In fact it is the same setting on my Z Ultra and Z1 Compact, but needless to say, I do not see this behaviour on my other sony devices.
But somehow on the tablet, WiFi does not auto connect, even in presence of a WiFi router that is set for auto connect.
Even If I was using the particular access point for WiFi connection, lets say I play games for about 30 minutes... the connection is lost and I need to go into WiFi settings to turn it on again (with the small slide to the right toggle switch within WiFi settings to turn on WiFi itself).
Anyone else experiencing this?
I would rather avoid it, since over usage on 3G for me means speed throttling later in the month...
P.S. Yes, I am on latest firmware 17.1.A.2.69
On Advanced WiFi, Keep wifi on during sleep is set to ALWAYS., avoid poor connection is turned OFF, and Wifi optimization is also OFF
Factory reset it? That's probably the first thing they tell you to do if you approach the technicians, if the problem still persist then demand for an exchange if not refund it.
I'd just bought mine today and unfortunately the bottom right corner the glass sticks out and it is pushable. I'm going to exchange it tmr.

Thanks for the idea, but no luck.
In any case each time I upgraded firmware, it should have sorted itself out, but problem still remains...
"Factory reset" is always the first "solution" you get by "technicians". Usually translates to: "Keeps the customer occupied for hours, silencing him."
Regarding the issue: I cannot confirm that, NO WLAN issues with my LTE Z2, it's just "always on", never losing the connection.

Do you have stamina mode ON?
With my other Xperias, the second I turn my screen on, the wifi is off/sleeping, but it launches and connects almost instantaneously. I guess the problem in my tablet is that it is not doing so, requiring me to do it manually...
I thought the FW for the tablet and the phone Z2 was the same? Maybe I should go and look in the forums over there...
I don't have the problem, either.
UPDATE
Problem Solved.
The cause was ad blocker app that I had installed, and it seems to me that whenever I was using certain apps that needed ad-blocking, all this thing would do is turn wifi off (but not 3g/LTE)
How Dumb is that?
Anyways, Wifi now always on even with stamina mode on.
Thanks for all who listened and threw suggestions!
Thanks

WiFi disconnecting when screen is off

I'm trying to figure out if my Edge is bad. When I turn the screen off, and come back to the phone a few minutes later, I'll get a notification stating it has connnected to my router. I've checked the settings and it states the wifi is set to be always on. I attempted a factory reset and still no luck. Sometimes it'll take a few moments before it even connects to the wifi again upon turning the screen on.
Do I have a bad phone?

I would check under the advanced settings for wifi, there's an option for what to do with wifi during sleep. That may be your problem.
I've already checked and it''s enabled.

I have the same thing happening. I noticed when I was backing pics on one drive
. It would always say that back up has stopped because there was no WiFi After turning the screen on again.
I just got my Edge yesterday, and I am having the same problem with wifi AND also that it stops seeing any wifi and I have to toggle it off and back on manually THEN it will instantly connect to my known network.
Dear @vaxick,
Dial *#0011# and click on more>>WiFi>>"WIFI Power save mode" try to disable this option and see what happens.
*it might drain your battery faster.

Thank you for this suggestion, unfortunately it had no effect as I have observed the same wireless disconnect behavior now with both the WiFi power save both on and off. Once the wireless disconnects it no longer see ANY wireless networks no matter where I go until I toggle the wireless off then back on again. Then it will see all wireless network present around me and instantly connect if there are any of my saved networks present. At this point I believe it is either a hardware or worse a software problem with my phone, but I am really at a loss to the exact nature of this issue.
Mine also has this issue when connected to 5GHZ SSID. Connecting to my 2.4GHZ SSID solves this problem completely for me

I hope that this is a hardware issue with my phone, as your "solution" is totally unacceptable for me, especially since my work place has bandsteering AP's that use the same SSID's for both 2.4 and 5GHz.

Yeah, i have to turn WIFI off whilst at work for the same reason. Certainly hoping it's just a software bug and will be fixed quickly as it is by no means an ideal workaround
I also see this kind of problem since last 1 week, here is how i noticed. i user viber messaging app and it shows status online if you are connected. Lot of my friends started complaining that my status is not continuously online and fluctuating so i started doing tests.
Moment my display turns off i started counter and in 10 minutes my status changes as last seen and whenever i open viber app again i am online.
second test: i tried doing the same with whatsapp and connected at web.whatsapp.com and same thing happens within 10 mins i see yellow bar appearing that my phone is disconnected so again i have to open whatsapp on phone to reconnect.
this is very annoying to see this kind of problem on new phones, especially when old phones are working flawless.
Kind of the same problem, but with GPS. Once I disabled the battery saver mode, it stopped disconnecting. Have you tried that?
Are you referring to power saving mode in battery settings. i did check and they are turned off. No idea what else i am missing here.
I tried re-installing viber but still after 10 mins its keep disconnecting.

I'm having the same issue on my regular non edge s6. This settings is not doing anything have it on always still always drops the wifi when going to sleep. Its driving me crazy no idea why its doing this
i did check and i have Keep WiFi on during sleep >> Always option but still drops, no clue whats wrong with my phone.
I had the same issue and solved it by changing my routers security from WPA2/Mixed Mode to WPA2 Personal. Since this change, it works fine on both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz.

I received my Galaxy S 6 edge a week ago and I am having this same peculiar reconnecting issue to WiFi that has been described here.
Solution?
I was having this same issue and was unable to find any good solutions for it online, but eventually found something for me that worked through experimenting:
Find the above mentioned "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" option (which is probably set to "Always" already), change it to "Never", and then change it back to "Always". Since doing this I haven't had it disconnect from the wi-fi once, where as before it would do it everytime the screen had been off for a few minutes.
The problem started happening sometime after I played with power saver mode, so I think it might be related to that. I know that the software has some other bugs related to power saving mode, as I had a previous problem where my softkeys stopped vibrating or lighting up, which ended up being related to not exiting ultra power saving mode correctly and was fixed by going re-enabling ultra power saving mode and exiting again.
