Getting contacts out of PIMBACKUP via WM emulator - TG01 General

OK.. so I've managed to install microsoft WM6 emulator on my PC and managed to get PIMBACKUP installed and my contacts restored on it. However, in order to get all these contact back out.. I'm going to need to back them up on the emulated device.
What program can I use in WM6 that I can also import the details into Android please? (I.e. no point using PIM Backup, because it doesn't have an Android program so thats out... what other programs please?)
UPDATE: Actually I managed to suss a solution out. I went here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734044 and followed the instructions Imported the resulting CSV file into GMAIL (doing that at present).
BTW.. when using EXCEL, when selecting columns with tel numbers in.. make sure you pick the column as 'text' otherwise it will screw your numbers up (Like dropping the zero's from the front, and thinking it's an integer etc...)

SMS backup-getting SMS Export tool (yorch.net) working?

HI together, :?
I`m new in this forum and found it because I have a issue I don`t get rid of. I have 2500 sms messages on my xda and want to sell it to get a new one. My problem is I don`t want to delete my whole sms messages as there are so many important one I can`t delete as I need them documented.
I installed now the SMS Export tool from yorch.net as I red in this forum here that I should be able to get this done with this tool.
Problem is that I´m not able to get it done successfully.
1. I downloaded the tool and installed it from my PC over Active Sync on my xda.
2. I can see the SMSExport.vce file in my root folder on my xda
3. I can see the VICERT.vce and Visual CE.unload file under /windows
Problem is now that I need asistance how I can use the tool now ?
1. If I start the VICERT.vce file I get the msg "Run VisualCE.exe to create a form"
2. If I run Visual CE.unload file as I don`t see a exe I get the msg that there is no application assigned to the file?
3. If I riun the SMSExport.vce file I get a programm called SMS Export Utility in front of me where I don`t know how to handle to get the sms messages on my local PC.
My aim is to read the sms messages on my local pc (word or txt file) and burn it as backup on a cd.
I would really appreciate any help as I spent hours already on this topic and I`m not smart enough to get it done.
Thanks in advance...
I faced the same problem, I've searched all over this forum, but until late, I used this software : Smart Phone Studio (http://smartdev.51.net/)
It lets you save all your SMS from phone to PC, and you can also save them on text files with nice formatting
You can also backup SMS from your device, and restore them from the PC at anytime you want!!!
ah I forgot to tell that it also works for XDAs, regardless of its name

Do you have the program on your local machine to send it to me via email ? I`m not able to download the program as there is no version available at the moment ...
I'd appreciate a copy as well if possible.
Oops! its not available on the site & its not free anymore!!!!!
But don't worry, I will send u a copy of it when I come back home..
Ok, here is the file..
Simple steps to run it:
1. Change your PC date to March 2004.
2. Copy SPStudio.exe to your PC & run it.
3. Copy CommMan.exe to your pocket PC & run it.
4. Just click on the buttons at the left panel to access your SMS messages & use FILE menu to export/import messages.
Cheers
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Thhhhhhhhhhhhhhanks ... it is working. I really appreciate your time to help me. Just saved thousands of sms .... really cool. Have a great time.

You are most welcome guys
I've recently found a software which synchronizes you SMS with MS Outlook! SMS Sync for Outlook:
http://www.v2r-advanced.com/SMSSync.html
I wonder why Microsoft does not support synchronize SMS with ActiveSync, much like emails :?
I've found a new software which transforms your SMS messages into emails, which then can be easily synchronized with the PC
http://www.geocities.com/tomgrek/
anyone tested it ????
download source for spstudio (expiring by april 2004)
after some browsing the web i have found an alternative download source for the famous spstudio:
http://www.coolsmartphone.com/cooldownloads/SPStudio.zip
you probably have to register at coolsmartphone.com (its for free) before you are allowed to download files.
also consider the hints given above (setting back the date of your pc to march 2004 etc.) for getting the tool working.

help...
i am also desperately trying to backup valuable sms. unfortunately i need to back them up since i need to reset my device cause active sync is no longer working ..BIG PROBLEM...i cannot use any of the above tools without active sync.
any ideas how i can get the sms off my MDA without active sync???
thanks
woody
Since your active sync is not working, you can try to backup your files to SD card (use Sprite Backup or anything else to do so) and then you can hard reset your device safely..
Make sure it is the latest version of sprite backup, that software caused nightmares for me, after restoring I could not recieve or send sms so please be sure you get the latest fixed version.

if you can find it as a cab file you can copy it to your sdcard and run it from your xda
SMS Sync Outlook
Hello, Regarding the SMS Sync Outlook...one of the requirements was having Outlook 2003. I still use Outlook 2002, does it matter? Don't really want to upgrade to 2003 yet as there might still be some bugs. Any thoughts anyone?
Thanks,
Bree :?:
Hi Bree (Kabayan?)
I am using Outlook 2003 for several months and as of this moment no problems or bugs yet.

ROM upgrade success after a big issue ...

Hi folks,
Although I am generally not timid about modding certain products (such as my computers and TiVo), I do like to first take my time before diving in until I'm sure I've read most of the relevant threads and have gathered up the complete suite of software tools in one place. The resources on this site and the work of folks such as DCD and nueChem are amazing and outstanding and I want to say thanks for that.
As of yesterday, I felt read to take the plunge installing the bootloader, 3.27 radio ROM and DCD 2.3.2 kitchen build on my XV6800. However, I didn't just go with the stock kitchen. I added a couple of additional OEM packages from Alex.Kaiser.v4.OEM.Packages (the nue LED and audioparam packages and Resco File Explorer 2007 in particular).
The updating went great and I was able to OTA reprogram my phone without needing to call Verizon. However, I noticed that something wasn't right.
First, my phone had no connection data onboard so the phone didn't know to dial #777 for a data link and my attempts to enter this manually didn't give me any success.
Second, my PC wouldn't see the device unless I deselected the "advanced network features" (or similar, I forget the exact wording) checkbox.
Third, I couldn't install CAB files. They'd terminate immediately with an "installation was unsuccessful" message.
Finally, once I was able to establish a connection to the PC, I could add and remove files from the device *only* from the PC. Attempts to delete files from the device itself were met with a file permissions error.
After playing around for a while trying every tweak I could think of, I tried using Resco Explorer and, after a few minutes, got a registration code error/warning message. This made me wonder if this package was the problem: preventing certain types of file access due to it being in a limited-functionality mode from lack of a proper reg code.
So, I rebuilt the ROM without it and now all is well! I'm loving the new dialer and comm manager as well as the active GPS (I've tested it only with Google Maps and GPSToday so far and it gets to within half a block). Not sure how well EV-DO Rev A is working yet. I tethered the phone and ran an online speed check, obtaining 1.2Mbps download but only 60kbps upload. It's possible this is related to my local coverage (Nyack, NY), so I'll try this again from a known-good Rev A area.
Anyway, just wanted to relay my experience in case it proved useful to anyone.
One other thing: I used PIM Backup to backup my data beforehand since my sycing is generally done on my work machine and I was doing the ROM updating from home. Upon restore, it wouldn't restore my email messages because it didn't find the corresponding account. So, it's important to note that this account info isn't backup up and that you first need to create the account before doing the restore step (making sure to name the account the same as before so that it matches up).

[REQ]loading WM 6.1 ROM into MSDN device emulator

Dear all,
I am trying to find an image to load in the msdn device emulator, specifically the one of Raphael. I don't have the Visual Studio platform builder. I have a standalone device emulator of the MSDN site.
So I was wondering if someone knew how to load a ROM in the device emulator. (I tried flashing a default 6.1 VGA ROM, but it crashed ) with device emulator 3.0 on win XP.
Or can someone construct a device emulator image with WM6.1 and enough ROM storage?
little background info.... my raphael died and the HTC dudes are charging 230 euro for repair. I backed my data with sprite and I want to switch to a different phone. So If I can restore my data in the emulator, I can then sync with my outlook(which I didnt do yet) and save the money.
I hope someone has perhaps an image lying around which I can easily load in the device emu?!
Thanks for your attention
Cheers,
Daniel
I don't think you'll find a Raphael emulator. The only ones I've heard of are the generics.
I haven't used sprite in a long while, but during a restore, can you select pim and messaging only? If so, you're good to go. If not, you should try a full restore on the new device and then see if you can either copy pim.vol onto the sd card or run pimbackup or sync with outlook. The phone will run like crap at best, so then you should hard reset and restore the pim/messaging databases.
Have you tried looking into the sprite backup file? You may be able to open it with winrar or 7-zip. It's a long shot, but if the databases are in .xml format, then they'd be easy to restore. Make sure you have a copy of the backup before screwing w/ it.
Hi Farmer Ted,
I have one self extracting backup (an .exe)
and one full backup of sprite.
Tried opening up with 7zip, but no luck on either. The exe doesn't even fully load. and the full backup doesnt provide any options, it just does a full restore.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Find a friend with a raphael, and back theirs raph up, do a hard reset, then restore your backup to it, get the pim stuff, hard reset then restore with their backup. Or just try doing the restore on the new device and hope that it isn't too fragged up to let you get the pim data from it.

Exporting Contacts from Windows Mobile to Android (Without Outlook or Google Sync)

This tip can be found in various parts of this forum, but I'm putting it here so that it can be more easily located.
The easiest way to move your contacts from Windows Mobile to Android (or just to Google in general):
While Booted into Windows Mobile:
Download "Dotfred's PimBackup" (see below), it's a ZIP file, extract the one file in the ZIP to your storage card. If you can't unzip from your phone, do this step on a PC.
http://www.dotfred.net/PIM/PPCPimBackupV2.8_wm2005.zip
Launch the application. Select the action "Backup" (should be default). Uncheck everything but "Contacts" then hit "Next > >"
Uncheck everything but "Create temp files in memory", hit "Next > >" (very important, don't screw this part up!)
Once the backup has completed, hit "Exit" on the bottom-left
Now connect the phone to your PC (or remove the SD card and put it in an adapter) in order to access the file PimBackup created:
Look for a new file called "PIMBackup_xxxxxxxx.pib" (the 'x's will be numbers representing the date of the backup)
Rename that file, changing the extension from ".pib" to ".zip", and open the ZIP file
Extract the file "contacts_xxxxxxxx.csc" to somewhere on your computer, and change the extension from ".csc" to ".csv"
From here you can import the contacts into Google, but I *highly* suggest taking the time to perform a few extra steps to clean up the data a little bit.

You should open your CSV file in either Microsoft Excel, or OpenOffice.org Calc. The CSV is semicolon delimited, meaning you can't just straight up open these files and work with them, instead you have to perform a couple extra steps in either one:
Microsoft Excel

OpenOffice.org Calc
On open of the CSV, check the "semicolon" box, uncheck all the rest.

If ur using a rhod with a Sim, just go under menu in the contact tab in winmo and save to sim. Then import from xdandroid. I've seen a lot of tuts saying remove you sim before booting xdandroid, but I never have and it get connectivity. Maybe its becuz I'm on tmobile. I dunno. But I hope this help
Sent from my MSM using XDA App
T-Mobile TP2 Froyo 2.21
trying this right now, I havent, done the "Clean up " steps, but it seems that only the contacts that have Photo Contacts or specialized ringtones from WinMo are the ones that have a lot of this:
0x3c,0x00,0x48,0x00,0x54,0x00,0x43,0x00,0x44,0x00,0x61,0x00,0x74,0x00
showing up in the notes. but other than that, I could live without doing the clean up... I tried doing the cleanup with Excel, but it wasnt working.
Thanks a lot though, this helped a great amount

I don't know, Honestly I followed http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138636. Activesync did it's thing and when I reset into Android I had all my contacts.
having the contacts is one thing but does it import them with pics ?
export as vcards
'vcard expert' is a windows mobile app that can backup your contacts and their pics as vcards. This format is recognised by different vendors so can easily transfer your contacts to other platforms such as android.
is it possible to import contact to Android without sync to google server (gmail)?
I don't really want google to save my family and friends contact information
There is also Funambol
Not tried it myself but it claims to sync PIM data across multiple platforms inc WM and Android. I believe it's free for something like 90 days
Deleted message.
Can sms's (messages) be exported the same way 2...i mean using pimbackup...or there is some other method...i moved from Touch pro 2 to Htc desire loving it
after - saved for changes - what i do.. can u explain it

[Q] Change SMS time-stamp

Hi,
a few months ago I was searching for a tool to copy all SMS from an old mobily phone (over SIM) to my HD2. (Copy from the Samsungs mainstorage to SIM and the tool for WinMo copied it automatically back to the mainstorage of my HD2, when inserting the SIM-Card).
But now I've got the problem, that the timestamp is shown as "11/03/29923, 21:22" and when I'm going to details, he tells me I got it at "30.12.99 01:00". That's the matter with every SMS (and that were about 200) that I received and sent. Normally I wouldn't care, but it really sucks, that when I get a new message, I have to search it in my contacts, cause the latest SMS is from year 2099 (if I got that stamp right) and well actual we have 2010 (OK in a few days 2011), but I don't wanna wait those 88 more years, just to hope, that I will work all right then
Is there any way how I can manitpulate those timestamps manually (or all at once would be good, too). They don't have to be all right, it would be enought, when ALL SMS has an older date (even the ones I didn't convert, and those who are OK) e.g. 01.01.2010, so when I get a SMS now, it will be showed as the latest one?
hope you can help me,
vinc
well, there's a way that I've just discovered a few minuites ago,
1. use PIM Backup to create a backup for the messages on your WM, make sure you choose to backup only the messages (just to ease the up coming steps) ...
2. in the backup options uncheck the following items
- Compress Backup
- Binary backup
This will create a .pib archive that you can open with winrar, you'll find there's one file inside that archive
3. Open the .csm file (from the extracted archive created above) with any plain text editor (TextPad, or notepad), you'll find it's more like a comma-separated file
4. find the SMS you want to change the timestamp for, you'll find the time stamp in the last few fields of the line, and save the file
5. restore the .csm file (yes PIM Backup can restore it directly) without compressing it again
That worked for me flawlessly, I was successful to alter the time stamp for multiple SMSs and the date ...
