Info on Sense 4.0 which will be atop 4.0.3 - HTC Rezound

New info regarding the replacement for the interim "Sense 3.6" we have in the latest leaks. Sounds like a serious improvement over the past UIs.

That sounds awesome...though I really hope they keep the menu button with the capacitive buttons, I would really miss that...

I pick my phones based on hardware. I'm not a fan of Sense, Widgets, and the like. That's why I'm here. I have an Android phone I can customize the way I like. That's why most people are here. Try to embrace that rather than judging people based on your feelings/convictions. That's what people that enjoy products from a certain "fruit themed company" do.

i think people need to stop complaining and/or stfu about sense already, it's getting old. we get it, you don't like sense. hooray for you. it seems the new "hip" thing to do is hate on sense, seriously. it's so god damn annoying to read. sense isn't going anywhere, so get over it. motoblur isn't going anywhere, and neither is any other manufactorers OS. stock android is ugly as sin, and ICS looks like a toy. atleast sense is going to bring visual appeal to ICS, whereas comparing ICS to iOS makes the nexus look like a toy.
tl;dr: shut up about sense, it's not going anywhere, and it's annoying to constantly read peoples hatred towards it. get over it.

I don't do hostile posts. I test everything because I like to play with it all. Can't say I don't like something if I never laid eyes/hands on it. Since I do theme and support work, I switch between sense'd and non-sense'd quite often.

I am new to Xda and HTC phones myself and I do like sense. The short time I have been on this site, I have noticed and strangely I might add. People seem to get way to hostile over the Sense vs Asop debate. People have different tastes and what they like and its just as much their choice as anything so why be condescending or hostile over their choice.
The reason I bought the rezound myself was hardware or I would have gotten the Gnex , because I like to mod and play around with different roms. Sense was a bonus for me , because to me its just a theme I can flash or not
Mr Smith is nothing , but courteous and helpful in the 2 forums I have been on so no reason to drag his choice into the debate.

android is about choice. thats why it is different from all other brands/os.
the software can always be changed/rewritten, but you are stuck with the hardware.
like mrsmith i choose my phones based on hardware. i also happen to like sense so that i why i went with the rezound.
thats not so sat that i don like asop. i ran CM7 on my TB for that past 3 months, sense simply has more "polish" and "eye camdy" that i enjoy
personally i hope sense slims down a bit and some of the bloat and useless apps disappear, but finally they realize that beats audio should work for third party apps.
once my rezound is outdated, i will most likely end up with another HTC phone and it will be a 1.5 ghz quad core, 1 GB ram, 8/3 mp camera 10 mm thick sense 4.0 android 4.0 powered monster

What I found that I like in that article is the guest mode.

I'm on this phone because it is the best phone on the market right now. It doesn't matter to me one bit what comes on the phone (Sense, blur, touchwiz, etc) except that sometimes (as it was with the Rezound initially) its impossibly hard to get rid of.
Now that I have removed like 95% of Sense/HTC related software from the system, installed my launcher of preference, I am extremely happy with my phone and battery life. I'm so glad I didn't get anything else on the market right now.
So there you have it... I picked out this phone because of the phone, not because of the manufacturer or whatever crap bloatware that particular manufacturer decided to burden us with. And just cause other people are sick of reading about how crappy Sense is does not mean I'm going to like it anymore or withhold my thoughts on the subject for their benefit. Negative reviews of a product are just as important as positive reviews.

ROM without Sense?

Are there any Thunderbolt ROMs with Sense stripped out? I'm considering a move to Verizon but I'm spoiled by CM7 in my Inspire. CM7 weighs in at 80mb where the stock Sense ROM is 275mb which insane bloat. If there's a ROM without Sense I'd love to go that route.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
yes d00d......
This should have been in general
But to answer your question Tesla Coil is as close as you are going to get to a non Sense ROM at this point.
They r all sense based now. There are roms without rosie and a bunch of sense apps, but they still need sense kernels etc..
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I know you can't completely remove Sense because these a-holes have buried it pretty deeply. But there are some Sense-based ROMs for the Inspire with most of Sense stripped out. I'd be happy with something like that. Sense is a public nuisance.

If you want a truly aosp experience you will have to wait for cm7. This is an htc branded phone so obviously they will ship it with sense. That's how they differentiate themselves. Surprised that would cause you to label them a-holes. Also please bear in mind that aosp kernels need to appear as well.
Finally, I'm surprised at how some people hate sense. Personally, I love the widgets, look and feel of sense a lot more. I find aosp roms too bare bones and homely and bereft of nice widgets etc. Sense 2.0 with phone finder, remote phone lock are really worth trying.

I call them a-holes because they force us to use an ugly skin that we don't like. All of these manufacturers should have a bare-bones ROM available to people who DON'T WANT their custom skin. Ship the phone with your skin but make it an option. The fact that they have added 200mb of crap is ludicrous. I get this figure from an AOSP ROM weighing in at 80MB while the stock ROM is ~275.

I disagree. We should not be forced to use a vendor's skin in order to enjoy Android. With only the Nexus phones being free from all this crap we're limited. These vendors really need to listen to the customers.
The g1 and g2 are without sense as well
Most people enjoy sense. Atleast those who know nothing of android
I prefer sense to aosp but that's my opinion, to each his own
And to say don't buy a HTC phone because u don't like sense is stupid, I buy HTC phones for the build quality and great over all.phones

I want to develop for the Thunderbolt

Hey guys, basically I'm here to ask what kinda roms most users of the Thunderbolt like to use. I been playing with an idea to do something for yall. I don't have a Thunderbolt though so it wouldn't be anything sharp like ICS. I would probably want to do something based off of yalls OTA just to sort of get the feel for things first. I've did about 8 roms for the HTC Droid Incredible so I could kinda find my way without to much help I guess.
Anyways, I'm not sure if I will or not. i just wanted to see what yall think first.
I'll put in a poll to help decide.
well the answer to will I work on this device is starting to look pretty much answered, lol. We'll see though.

Thats a good concept. I just wouldn't want to put to much effort into something that I would never get to see or use my self especially if others here don't really want it. But I'm just gonna leave this open for a little while longer. Who knows, maybe I'll get a hundred votes tonight, lol
one thing that absolutely kills a rom for me is if I am unable to change apn settings
this is because I need to change them for mms to work on my carrier (cricket). If I cant change em, i cant use the rom. That is one thing i liked across yours and jermaines roms.
I knew instantly when i got my dinc I was a sense fan (in my opinion its way better than aosp interface) but as sense versions got higher 2.0 2.5. 3.0......... It really slowed my phone down compared to aosp roms...................... and then i found the minimalist roms............. and i was in heaven
so make a minimalist sense rom............... lol
I got rid of my inc before i found your roms but have been loading them on my friends inc, and i can say that they were smooth for me. Wouldn't mind dropping one of yours on my thunderbolt. After you figure your way around maybe a possible sense 3.5 rom! Just saying that'd be great. haha
I really like gingeritis3d by chingy510.. He has slowed down on his development do to school though.
What I like about his rom is that it is 2.1 based. 2.1 roms run alot better on my tb. He has added the 3d carrousel which I think most people look for and he incorporated the sexy smooth rosie that was developed by someone else here on xda.
The rom could benefit with more tweaks options, like 4g toggle and more quick settings. just my 2 cents. Thanks for your interest in deving for the bolt!
I personally use liquid gingerbread, its fast, light, and highly customizable. Please please please stay away from sense 3.5.
I know ill get flamed but please include the music player with beats Some people like that "eq" setting, and if they don't like it they don't have to use it.
Second the above post not a fan of sense 3.5

Here's another problem. Complaints about Sense. If someone doesn't like Sense, why buy a phone that has it out of the box, and can't be removed without waiting for a developer to do it for you?
I'm a huge fan of Sense, and I look forward to getting 3.5, or 4.0, depending on what HTC brings to the table with the release of ICS.

had a sgs2 for about 2 weeks... hated it. and from that experience i have decided i will never buy another samsung product again.
they will have an official ICS release from sammy in about 13 months. because that's how long it takes samsung to get off their ass with any kind of support. look at the epic and the gingerbread update. 6 months behind the evo 4G
HTC > samsung
I wouldn't mind a galaxy nexus. But I know I would get tired over it.. after a while. Then what will I flash? A gb colored ics?
With the evo 3d I can put sense on for a while..... but I'm keeping pics for a long time... live it
The sgs2s aren't bad but I hate that they made them 4.3 and kept the same resolution and aspect ratio... I hate how pixelated and how wide it looks. Do like the samoled especially the blacks. But its a hate love relationship because colors look good but they aren't correct. Compare the gray or stainless steel color the speed test app has on an sgs2 and the evo 3d... you'll see the colors, sharpness and aspect ratio..

True aosp phones

Can we get a list of the "TRUE AOSP" phones? I bought the Rezound after being an iPhone user for years with the idea of flashing ROM'S etc. I found that I HATE Sense and want a TRUE ICS experience.
Well, as y'all know Rezound developers are dropping like flies around her (Protekk, etc...) and the only person doing any consistent work on a Senseless Rom is Scott. So before I make the mistake again of getting a phone that's not gonna give me all the freedom I desire can we get a list of the recent "TRUE AOSP phones?

If you want pure AOSP, you can get... the droid Eris!
Developers aren't dropping like flies, just because Protek left. Development is thriving here, but you got to like Sense. The reason I bought an HTC was because of reliability and the fact that it has Sense. I do like AOSP too (I miss MIUI), but I also like Sense.
You could always just throw Nova or Apex Launcher on your devices, or run de-sensed rom. Side note: if you get a Samsung like the Nexus, make sure you get a GSM version. CMDA radios are one of Samsung's biggest weaknesses.

This whole thing is souring me entirely on Android.
Maybe that sounds hyperbolic, but I'm sick of having to jump through these absurd hoops to get the hardware I want with the software I want.
I love the dev community and the hard work they do, but until Android OEMs offer a way, out of the box, to run AOSP then I'm going to be rethinking my commitment to Android.
It's absurd that the double-bind we're in is to choose hardware or software.

I don't understand why the manufacturers ALL spend the time and resources to make such elaborate custom skins. I mean a custom launcher is one thing but rewriting the entire email, calander, mms, and settings apps is kind of overboard. Stock Ice cream sandwich really does not need any enhancements for the most part. The one good thing about the first set of honeycomb tablets is that they all for the most part ran aosp.

agreed man, it's all opinions, which is why HTC makes sense lol
if there was a box i could check to switch to stock android or sense, i'll admit i'd give it a whirl. yeah, i'd get sick of it after 2 days (i coudln't run CM7 for longer than 24 hours on my Inc because i couldn't stand AOSP), but i'd still try it out.
Any phone that Cyanogen will support can get "full AOSP"
everyone needs to remember not everyone likes the same things... I prefer sense over asop and that's why i have this phone... I think asop is plain as well and i commend HTC for making Sense as nice it is... no other manufacturer comes close with their own UI
I think AOSP functions better than Sense, that's purely why I like it.

Due simply to the One? No. MeanBean has been dead for a while. Viper appears to have been complete since February. CM10.1 is still in the works. Stock is still being worked on. Could be wrong but have to agree, sense 5 may take a little while longer to get rolling, but there other roms that just dropped. Im a big supporter of utkaar99's work here. If you like sense try his HatkaLTE or his Rage ROM. If you like AOSP ,take a look at jaimeg's threads. Still some stuff happening here just a little slow right now. As far as the One, its true we're loosing some folks to that forum, but thats how it works here at xda. I mysrlf was going to get a One or the samsung 4 but decided to hold, mainly just to see how long this forum will last. Hope its like the Heroc was, even in low activity it still pushed on. Same with the Evo4G, still hangin in there 3D is the same, still going strong. We may pick up some of theirs in the future hopefully. Just gotta hang tough.

I need my phone to just work so I am staying on mean bean until something worthy replaces it. I do love viper Rom as well.

I know viper is working on something that will allow mods and roms for the one on other carriers to work on the Sprint variant and vice versa. One development is about to explode. That said we still have some quality roms here in lte land. If you have the time, you can learn to develop and theme.

Due simply to the One? No. MeanBean has been dead for a while. Viper appears to have been complete since February. CM10.1 is still in the works. Stock is still being worked on. I'm sure the Sense 5 Port and others aren't just being set aside to never be touched again. I could be wrong about that though.

Good post man.... I would hate to see all development stop for this phone but it won't, it will slow down though.. I think everyone was so used to getting different roms and constant updates to feed the addiction... What they have done is awesome and the part about the roms being complete is true, I can't think of much that can be done with viper, been using it for a while and it's bad ass.. Just debating the One, not sure if I want to jump ship yet, it's fast and smooth, but it's not much better than this in my opinion.

Don't forget to hit the thanks button. When this phone came out there were still a lot of developers working on EVO 3D ROM's.

My husband just got the One (his upgrade from the EVO4G). The only features it has that I wish my 4GLTE had are the dual front speakers (the sound is beautiful!), the IR blaster (maybe not super useful, but can be used for triggering our DSLR), and the international SIM card slot.
The aluminum skin is also beautiful, but it's not going to tempt me to upgrade. It also doesn't have an SD slot, so it wouldn't hold all my MP3s.
I hope development doesn't die on this device. I plan on keeping it for quite a while longer.

I'd like to keep it for the 2 years like the ogevo. But I don't know if it will make it.

I keep wondering the same thing. Got another year to go before my upgrade, and definitely can't afford the one straight up. Was hoping when our sense5 update drops sometime this summer (hopefully) that the current favs like mean, viper, and superjelly would be brought up to date with it, but it doesn't seem that'll happen since those devs have moved on to the one or left HTC all together. Not saying new stuff won't drop then, but for now anything sense will be slow.

Actually, it DOES seem like that WILL happen. As I've said earlier that some of the progress on those ROM's have been completed. There's simply no more to do with them which is why there is no update. Just like the OTA from HTC even though they could be doing more.
I think in this new world of quickly progressing smartphones there are a couple of options for xda'ers. One, upgrade yearly to stay with the new device that gets all the attention.
The second option is the progression that this site fosters. Users learn and build their abilities to create by themselves. Many of the past leaders of EvoLTE have left a legacy of development here that can be built upon. Fortunately, the vast majority of the devs around here will gladly allow another person to take over the reigns and continue a build- or even make it thier own creation.
The site was named xdadevelopers. The purpose for the site is to allow users to learn to be developers. All the tools are here.

Something else to consider is that Android 5 (Key Lime) is on the horizon and may be announced at Google I/O in a couple of weeks. A major OS rev often stokes new inspiration for devs and hopefully we'll see ports of Key Lime ROMS to the EVO LTE (e.g. CM, Key Lime based Sense, etc.).
It ain't dead.
Just have to know where to look is all.. not all ROMs get posted on XDA
I'd much rather have more kernel development than rom personally. I'm learning more and more each day the true capability of the hardware and which software elements dampen it's potential. We have a huge hd screen and dual core I could really care less about the One and sense 5. Like someone else said it can't do much more than viper. I'm testing the AOSP waters for now and loving Slim Bean currently.

Just look in the development threads. There are still a lot of really great roms still being worked on.
Yes a few have left but many still have this phone and many more will probably pick it up second hand or now that it's becoming really cheap on sprint.
For ask those worried why don't you go and read a few how-tos and start doing your own thing.
I really hate these threads. They always happen and never produce something good. Just lame really.
