[Gingerbread][ROM] Stock Rooted OTA ROM w/ Firmware [Gingerbread] - HTC Rezound

THE BEST WAY TO GET THE NEW FIRMWARE IS TO RELOCK, RUN THE NEW RUU, UNLOCK, THEN REFLASH RECOVERY AND RE-ROOT WITH THE TUTORIAL IN MY SIGNATURE.
THIS IS GINGERBREAD NOT ICS
Thanks to hgoldner for taking the time to install the OTA update and get me a rooted system image to work with!
Anyway...
This is the late January/early Feburary GingerBread OTA update integrated into the rezound shipped stock rom. No new features other than what the OTA adds other than root and custom recovery based installation support. That isn't the point of this rom.
What will this get you:
1. New stock rom with OTA update built in
2. New firmware like hboot, radio, etc. Won't impact the ability to unlock/relock
3. Any rom fixes htc made.
If this doesn't work for some reason, it is probably my fault but it should work. Any damage caused to your device is your problem, not mine, hgoldner, htc, anyone except you. This does push the new firmware to your device via a PH98IMG.zip. If this could brick, but is very unlikely. The PH image is UNTOUCHED from the HTC release.
Thanks to ardreissig for the reupload!
Download
Info on installing. You unfortunately have to relock for the firmware flash to occur if you are S-ON.
So if you want firmware (these are abbreviated, general outline steps for more advanced users):
1: Install in recovery
2: Relock if you are S-ON. Remember this will wipe your internal sd card. But since you just installed the rom from a clean flash you won't lose app data and such.
3. Install PH98IMG.zip deposited by my rom on the card
4. Unlock if you are S-ON
OP updated 6/22 to future proof instructions.

Thank you.

If I'm on an ICS rom and getting the mainver errors, will this method still work?

This work for anyone? I got some sort of error when it tried to flash the PH portion in Bootloader.
EDIT: Are we supposed to fastboot OEM lock before this?
EDIT2: I guess so. Seems to be working now.

this is a ROM , no need to lock bootloader.
the PH isnt working cos u must have a newer mainver.
either change the androidinfo.txt

It was NOT because of the mainver as I did not receive a "mainver older" error and it was already updated to the one I have within the PH zip (I checked). I did in fact have to relock for the update to take.

If you don't want this to happen, decline the bootloader update. This mainver shouldn't be as bad as the ICS one as it is likely they will release an RUU for this mainver soon.

You're a cool guy, and I don't wanna argue with you as it's just a miscommunication.
Yes, you are correct that you can run this ROM without flashing the PH98IMG.zip file (as stated in the OP.. you just skip the Bootloader portion of it).
..but as to your comment about "confusing" people.. this is what I said:
"This work for anyone? I got some sort of error when it tried to flash the PH portion in Bootloader.
EDIT: Are we supposed to fastboot OEM lock before this?
EDIT2: I guess so. Seems to be working now."
As we can see here, I was clearly referring to the PH flashing portion in the Bootloader. If anything, this should help anyone that didn't think to do so as it was not stated in the OP (not dissing the OP in any way, shape, or form as he contributes A LOT to the community and is probably my stupidity in not realizing anyway).
Also, the ROM does automatically reboot to Bootloader.. so I believe it's a good piece of information.
Take that for what its worth

If anyone that got it could reup it that would be great. I only used drop box becase that is the only site that I could think of that would take a file that big. About 20 people should have been able to get it. I forgot about dev host and my go to site megaupload is gone I am gone all day so I will personally not be able to begin reuploading until 6 or 7 eastern tonight. Sorry everyone. Hopefully someone who got it is willing to reupload in the mean time.

Question: Is it possible to flash just the firmware/radio update without using the entire rom? and will the existing roms work correctly with the new firmware/radio?

Yeah just pull the ph98img zip from the rom and flash via hboot as usual.

Cannot Flash Kernel

Good evening. I am new to HTC phones (and unlocked phones in general). I am having trouble flashing a kernel using a PH98IMG.zip file. When it goes in the bootloader I get an error that says "Main Version Older Update Failed." I am able to flash a boot.img via Fastboot, but I am receiving wifi errors. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

What kernel are you trying to flash?

How weird that someone else would post the same issue I'm having, when I've flashed several kernels in the past few days with no problems.
At some point, I've flashed every Sense-based kernel in the Rezound dev section. And now, for some strange reason, I'm getting the error described above.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
The Beeb

Try flashing the kernel in fastboot.
I am having the same issue now also after I flash the BAMF's latest ROM. Their update log says they updated to the new base, and after that I can't to flash anything in hboot anymore. I can still ADB push the boot.img but no flashing. I also tried to revert to complete stock by flashing the RUU and get the same thing. It's says my system is newer and won't flash.

Sorry, yes, I can do that.
That's the only way that I can push a boot.img now. I know the kernel devs have a way to flash their kernel in recovery then automatically push you into hboot to flash the PH98IMG.zip file with the boot.img inside it. Flashing anything in fastboot now results in the error message above except for the BAMF ROM.
Having the same problem after updating to bamf cubed 102.
My main version sig updated when I flashed the leaked kernel. fastboot should always work, and would have saved me from the dumb mistake had i flashed in fastboot to begin with.
But my guess is that somehow u flashed a PH98IMG.zip file that was the leaked kernel.
I'm not sure how to find out what version the sig thinks it is running but since I know what the leak was, I can edit the .txt file in the PH98IMG.zip and make it work, like said in the thread.
Well this sucks! It definitely started when I flashed the new bamf cubed rom. So does this mean I can never flash a boot.img unless I do it with fastboot and a pc? So I cant just put the file on my sdcard and reboot into fastboot? Can this be fixed? Thanks!!!!

The same issue also started for me when I flashed BAMF Cubed. Looks like dsb mention on the BAMF Cubed Rom thread that with S-On we can't easily change the base that was changed this with update. Looks like we will be using Fastboot until more developers use the newer version. Glad to know its not something I managed to screw up lol.

Thanks a lot for all of the help everyone.
You might be able to replace the android-info.txt in the PH98IMG.zip with the one from dsb's kernel, making the hboot think you're not flashing backwards. Not positive if that works though.

my main sig updated, and it is far from a brick..
Infact it's not a very big deal at all, it's something that should be avoided by all costs I absolutely 100% agree with that.
but the phone will still be able to use RUU's, the update will be ICS anyway..
This is confirmed by jcase.
I completely agree with stopping this from happening to anyone else. But no need to scare them by saying your phone is a brick because the sig updated.
How exactly do you consider the phone to be a brick anyway? JW, not trying to be an a-hole by any means here.
the only problem is the need to change the PB98IMG.zip .txt file and cant use an RUU until we get an OTA, ICS will be the next OTA update anyway.

Agreed that it's FAR from bricked, but it's just more of an annoyance. You can't use the easy flash script that all the kernel devs and ROM devs are using now. You have to manually update the .txt file yourself inoder to be able to flash it. (Or adb push it from a computer)
And yes you are correct about the RUU, you can probably just replace the txt file in it with the moded version (I didn't think of trying that even though I am doing that will the kernels that I have download from here).
I was only trying to RUU to see if it would undo what was done... just for ease of use for me. I like to browse these forums from tapatalk and download a new kernel when it's released (hasn't been for a while, come on devs ) and test it out. I can't do that now without a computer. So I was just trying to undo that is all.

Revert back recovery for OTA

I unlocked my rezound and rooted it, but I'm on stock rom. I'm going to revert back to stock recovery in preparation for OTA.
Is there a guide on how to do it?
Do I need to lock bootloader before flashing stock recovery back?
I would hope hasoon2000 would add flashing stock recovery to his all-in-one toolkit.
Thanks
ps. I can't post in development yet. So i'm posting here in general.
You can pull the stock recovery out of an RUU and replace the recovery image in a amon recovery flashable zip. That is what I will be doing. If you are still s-on I do think you will need to re-lock.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
you could do that or take the stock recovery and do the fastboot command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery Namehere.img
and then relock bootloader for OTA
you do not need to be relocked to take the OTA.
ive OTAed a couple times with an unlocked bootloader.
the important things are:
-stock recovery
-more or less stock rom(not modded to porevent OTAs)
thats it.

You could always skip the hassle and just flash the OTA packages that will come out 20 minutes after it is released... Give or take an hour.

*shrug* i wouldnt place to much importance in quadrant scores. you could have run it twice without doing anything and gotten as big a difference
i would run it several times and take the average. but even then dont get too caught up in the numbers verses real world how fast/smooth your phone feels.
Trust me I have done it on average bases. I know the score does not mean anything, but it fills that my phone runs better without those.

Cannot install ICS

So Sprint finally said there was a system update to ICS so I downloaded it and installed and it instantly popped up an error, didn't have any words it was just a picture of the guy with the warning sign. So I waited and it never did anything. I figured I would clear everything/factory reset and see if that fixed it. Nope. Even moreso, it wouldn't let me install any other ROM either. I did enough superwipes and stuff that I finally got the stock ROM to work so I'm back where I started.. One clue might be that I cannot seem to clear the sd-ext, it gives me an error there.
With it back in working order, if I don't clear anything and just try and install ICS from bootloader, what I show in the pic is what happens.
The last part about the E:error in sd card is what I was getting when all the other ROM's were screwing up.
Maybe bad sdcard

Just do a fastboot command "fastboot oem lock".

Anyway, DO NOT TAKE AN OTA!
I am not the greatest with these things. You are saying I need to unroot my phone for this to work? And I need to somehow get rid of the revolutionary recovery thing? I don't know what OTA means but I can see it's part of the file name. Is there a non-OTA version of it that I can use? For some reason a lot of ROM's don't work. I have hboot 1.5 with s-on and cynogenmod and a lot of ICS ROM's just hang on the HTC screen.

You don't need to unroot, but you need to lock your bootloader and get the stock recovery back to take the OTA. The easiest way to upgrade to ICS without doing all that is to flash the new firmware, then flash a stock rooted rom if you want to stay on the stock rom.

Upgrade firmware through bootloader, then flash a stock rooted rom or a custom rom based on ICS. If you want to use the new kernel, you will have to upgrade hboot as well, or you can keep your current hboot and use the VM leak kernel.
For some reason a lot of ROM's don't work.

Could be a number of reasons, you need the new firmware to run an ICS rom, and you need the new hboot if those roms use the new kernel.

You can't flash kernels with s-on, so you will need to get s-off before you want to use an ICS rom.

CM10 Install guide?

I've been (at least trying to) patiently wait for Deck to post full install instructions for CM10 but the CM10 op is still bare as bones. Has anyone else posted an install guide or instructions yet?
I'm currently rooted with RegawMod and running MeanRom 2.1 and it's really terribly laggy and frustrating, I can't wait any longer for CM10. Do I need S-off to install CM10 or do I just wipe, flash, and go?
Thanks for any help or links!
If you are on hboot 1.15 or higher you have to fast boot flash the kernel.
Other than that its just like a normal aosp install. Wipe flash rom flash gapps.
Its been my daily for 3 weeks.

You don't need s-off. You will however have to flash the boot IMG separately by using fastboot or the app flash image GUI and a full wipe is definitely required. There is a helpful thread in Q&A called "don't panic" that will answer all your questions

Dont use flash image gui unless you know how to do it manually through fastboot. You are just asking for issues

If you are on hboot 1.15 or higher you have to fast boot flash the kernel.
Other than that its just like a normal aosp install. Wipe flash rom flash gapps.

I'm on hboot 1.12, so does that mean I can just flash normally?
edit - From what I can tell from reading, hboot 1.12 doesn't have the same restrictions that 1.15+ do, so I think I'm OK but I would like verification.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Yes hboot 1.12 allows for access to the boot partition
Also luuuuucckkyyyyyy...

If you are on Hboot 1.12 I'd strongly suggest looking into getting S-OFF. Theres really no reason not to.
Up to you though, its not required
Bit off topic, anyone check to see if you can push a new splash, right now I'm too lazy to start my PC just to fastboot one measly splash

The S-OFF guide was way over my head so I just let it be. If there's not a real good reason for doing it, and I can still run CM10, then I'd rather not.
It allows you to directly flash new firmware like radios to fix any problems a device might be having. If you have Son and want the latest firmware you have to revert back to stock and accept ota, then unlock reflash recovery and reflash custom ROM or rooted stock, you could also just flash root installer if you want to just root stock

No, S-ON people with 1.12 H-boot can flash radios and firmware from recovery. They can do whatever they please in recovery just like S-OFF. S-OFF users can flash things from bootloader and even change the appearance of their h-boot to read S-ON and **locked** even though they are S-OFF
To the OP, this is the best rooting guide I've seen. It really explains everything step by step. http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...panda-s-htc-dev-ltevo-root-dummies-guide.html Its recommended to have Linux at least bootable, because in the small chance the phone gets bricked... the unbricker program requires linux.
I ran it in windows before the unbricker was available, no issues here
You basically just hook the phone up to it and run the program like you do for most other root programs. All 1-click
Ah yeah forgot to mention that, most everyone is on 1.15 or 1.19 sorry

Alright, I got S-Off using Lazy Panda and it went better than expected!
Do I need to flash updated firmware / radios separately from CM10, or does CM10 include latest firmware?
Sorry to ask dumb questions, but I do hope this thread will also be a good resource for others like me.
You don't have to flash any firmware updates. There are a few users with issues although they may be related to the ROM update and not necessarily the firmware included. I haven't really checked since I'm s on. If you want to update the radios there's an update zip here somewhere, be sure to read through everything carefully. Radios are more risky then every day flashing
Alright everyone now I need some help!
I flashed CM10 after s-off, was on stocked 1.13 rooted rom.
Now when CM10 boots up I am faced with a phone activation screen. It says something like "you will not be able to place calls or access the mobile network until the device is activated". I am unable to make calls or receive calls or access the internet. I have tried reflashing cm10 and the problem persists.
In the mean time, I will try flashing a nand backup and see where that gets me. I appreciate any and all help, and I have found no posts in the CM10 thread with a similar issue.
Update: I wiped and restored a back-up, MeanRom 2.1. Upon boot, hands-free activation ran and activated the phone and downloaded a PRL update. Everything is working fine now. Not sure if I should try CM10 again or what? Any advice?

Yes, you should be flashing the upgraded firmware. You'll see the full firmware as the very first downloadable link. Flash that
http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...dio-Collection&p=220556&viewfull=1#post220556
Rename the file to "PJ75IMG.zip", place on root of SD card, and boot into HBOOT to flash. Check the md5 to make sure its right. With radios you want to make sure its the correct file.
Welcome to S-OFF my friend

Thanks, but I tried this and it says "no image or wrong image" when trying to flash the PJ75IMG.zip file.
Did you type in PJ75IMG.zip or PJ75IMG and kept it a zip file...you should do the 2nd.

I thought that might've been the issue so I tried it both ways, didn't work either way. I'll take another shot at it tomorrow.

Trying to update via OTA

So I was one of the lucky few who actually got their phone rooted before the HTC/Verizon lockdown and now that the OTA update is available it goes straight to recovery. Judging by my initial research I am going to have to re-flash the stock recovery image and then get the update and use whatever the new method is to root?
I would assume I could just wait till we get some custom roms now that it looks like progress is being made for temp root. However that may pose a problem for me if I want to wake up in the morning (as the phone reboots) and go to my job haha.
I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769622 but I don't understand why it's an exe file... shouldn't it be a zip so I can drop it on the SD card?

That is an RUU, Rom Upgrade Utility, and it is an executable because your phone has to be connected to the computer with the proper drivers installed to be able to run it. It writes everything to the phone as it was when the phone came out, including HBOOT and recovery. Since you have unlocked, you could run that RUU and be completely stock on the same version as when the phone came out, and still unlock again since the MID has already been used on HTCDev. However, that file isn't the new update, and I don't know where you could get the new RUU without paying for it currently. Even so, if you were to use the RUU, it changes the HBOOT version, so you may not be able to unlock again.
In the past, I have seen people claim to be able to install an OTA on their current ROM by pulling the update file from /cache and flashing it in recovery, but I don't know if that will work for our phone or not.
I haven't seen anyone post the zip with the upgrade in it yet, so if you haven't received the OTA notification, it won't be in your /cache folder.
Try Voodoo OTA rootkeeper in the marketplace. And it restored my root after the OTA. To use OTA rootkeeper, you need to run it once for applying the OTA. There are some youtube videos to help you further.
The best way to install (IMO) the RUU is by pulling the rom.zip from the RUU and then running the RUU in boot-loader.
That's what I did for the two phones we tested S-OFF successfully on.
To pull the rom.zip from the RUU refer to this tutorial.

Is the RUU for the 2.17.605.2 update available for download somewhere?

You have to be a Premium member to download that. Someone said they were going to upload it somewhere else that hosts for free at that size but never did.

Yeah, if I could get that I suppose I could just flash it and not worry.
I'll try some of the above methods tomorrow when I have time I suppose and let you know or it looks like it will let me keep deferring it so I could just do that until we get ROMs or a free version of the above build.
I'll try and upload it, most sites wont let u because of the size..
4shared.com i think is the only one, and u might need to sign up but its free..

Would you be willing to split it into a couple of rar files with an md5 inside the rar?
