hdmi out + otg cable + xbox controller ? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, i got this xbox controller and its awesome on my xoom so i was wondering if is it possible to hook up an OTG cable with the xbox controller and use the hdmi out to output to the television. I tried on cm7 and no go maybe some other rom?
I can do that with my xoom, but with the phone would be sweet.
Thanks.

wont work, youll need at least android 3.0, but preferably 4.0 ICS to get usb host to work.

USB host work on Atrix, even on 2.3 but you need external power supply 5V
And I'm not sure if this controller will work with device, but I think it's worth trying (I suppose that it should be ok if it perform well with XOOM)

Ah the extra power....thats kinda deal breaker.
The controller is pretty decent on the xoom, the only issue are the triggers, no emulator has detected those (lt and rt), the rest work very nice.

question
ATRIX dock does not work? it has its own power supply

info
but you can run 4.0 now.. anyone tried more.???

[Q] Xbox controller?

Ive upgraded sucessfully to 3.1 and thuoght that xbox 360 controllers are ment to work. not managed so far - does any one know how to get them to work ive tried wired and wireless ones.
i take it no one has then?
Its strange seeing as there are some reviews coming out with the xoom on 3.1 getting to use xbox 360 contollers.
Do you have the dock? I've seen reports of people not having luck getting it to work that upgraded to 3.1 but no mention if they are using the dock or the female to female usb adapter method that is floating around.
Also the update that is floating around is not the OTA one so it may not be complete.
yeah i do have the dock... hope the ota update has the drivers for xbox controllers. would be awesome!
After updating to 3.1 I tried plugging in my usb gamepad to the dock, and loaded up Snes9x. Tried remapping the keys to the gamepad and it would say the keys were mapped to "none" no matter what button I pushed on the controller. The TF definitely knew that there was a gamepad plugged in, but it seemed like it didn't know how to map it correctly. So I tried playing Cordy like they did when they showed off 3.1, and all the buttons on the gamepad would make me run and jump to the right. So from what I can tell, it does register that there is a usb device plugged in and working, but it just won't map the buttons correctly . I don't have a wired 360 controller to try out, but I tried plugging in my PlayStation 2 controller with a usb adapter, and the TF wouldn't even register any of the button presses.
I tried a ps3 compatible pad this morning with n64oid and it worked once I mapped the controls. Didn't have time to really test thoroughly but seems to work on the leaked 3.1. This tweet from asusuk seems to confirm it for the official 3.1
@AsusUK Eee Pad Transformer with Android 3.1 supports XBOX 360 & Playstation controllers. UK FOTA Wed am.

Tested it on ps3 controllers, worked fine.
xbox 360 didn't work for me
How are these being hooked up through dock or some other means
Sent from my captivate BLAZING on firefly 3.0
Is this only possible for people who have the dock? Does it have to be via cable??
Thanks guys!
Only docks.
I mean the tablet doesn't even have any USB ports.
Any way to pair it via Bluetooth, or maybe get it to connect through the asus propriety cable?
Doubt it. Xbox 360 controllers don't use blue tooth to connect to the console. The asus cable would have to be modified somehow an you would lose a cable most likely.
asus PR fail?
i got the OTA 3.1 update here in the US yesterday. when i plug my usb 360 controller into my dock, the ring of lights continuously blinks. the controller does not seem to register with cordy or with any emulators i've tried. i think the origional (mis)information that this would work came from the AsusUK twitter account.
can anyone in the UK confirm that this doesn't work for them?
After the 3.1 update i plugged in my old logitech pc controller and fired up snesnoid and everything works perfectly.
Unfortunately you are equating 'supported' with 'devs have created apps that now work' with said support. The gamepads will work as long as the apps have been updated to use the newer code.
All I've tried so far has been an old PS1 controller plugged in via a cheapo usb pc adapter and it worked flawlessly in fpse. Oddly enough it was even letting me control the home screens in android as well. Although the button mapping was all off for that trial.
then it seems logical that we call a controller 'supported' by android if it can switch homescreens. if an app is coded in such a way as to support the controller then we can call it 'supported' by that app and the controller becomes useful. i believe the generic key mapping features of most emulators are good enough and should work for the 360 controller, that is if the OS can recognize it. i'd wager that if a USB controller can not switch homescreens then it will be impossible for an app to make use of it.
both google and asus advertise that the 360 controller should work on the transformer after the 3.1 upgrade. mine can not switch home screens or do anything else at all besides annoyingly blink its lights.
i think my 360 controller not working is a bug and that makes me sad.
i would very much like to be proved wrong here.
I'm using a USB female to female adapter w/ this and it will not work for the life of me. Maybe the adapter is bad but it will not connect to this for nothing.
Note: Using XBOX360 Controller
has anyone tried connecting it trough a usb hub?
I got XBox 360 controller with USB which work fine on PC but doesn't work with my Transformer under Android 3.1
It seems Google forgot the XBox 360 drivers :s
Nobody on this thread manage to got the XBox 360 working ?

Can you look at the back of your controller and tell me the model? I've got a emulator list with controllers that are working I would like to add it to. Check the DIY link in my signature.

I have not seen ANYTHING other than PS3s that could pair with a PS3 controller.
However, if you have Pershoot's kernel and the controller is fully charged, you can connect it via USB.
Will not work with stock kernels (no driver)
Will not work if the controller wants to charge its battery (overcurrent protection will trip)

Does anyone happen to know what controller exactly would work on a Galaxy Tab 10.1 in combination with the official USB Host adapter? I only have a PS3 controller at home but would be willing to spend some cash on an USB controller if I was sure it would work. Any chance the XBox 360 for PC USB controller works? Wouldn't mind if it's the wired one but the wireless one would be cool, too.

PC USB controllers should work without any work.
Xbox 360 controllers need Pershoot's kernel and the extra modules (aka "lib") archive.
Fully charged PS3 controllers work as USB but not Bluetooth with Pershoot's kernel/modules. PS3 controllers that don't have a fully charged battery will trigger an overcurrent trip when connected.
Actually this just came out. Works like a champ with the Tab 10.1.
Yup, this is a brand new development that happened since my last post on this subject.

[Q] USB xbox controller via multimedia dock?

so i have the multimedia dock, and unlike most other phones the atrix has USB host support, hence why we can plug in stuff like usb drives with fat32 partitions. However i've tried connecting a walmart xbox controller via usb to the multimedia dock since I need a USB port to plug into and nothing. No response, ie no buttons work no nothing.
I've also plugged in random keyboard like dell, and they work fine, hell even wireless mice over usb work fine, and provide a cursor on the home screen.
I'm mostly starting this topic because with the new Onlive system they have their own controler and I don't see what i'm missing.
Do I really need to buy a ps2 controller and connect via BT and do i need special software and can i use it like a mouse?

you can plug a ps3 controller in with the usb cable and use this app from the market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en
or you can also use a wii controller.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mercury.inputmethod.wpad&feature=related_apps
Both are Bluetooth compatable. And there's an app that connects them to the atrix

EDIT /This is the app I mentioned sorry for the 2nd post
What if you have a wireless xbox 360 controller, the wireless base, and a micro usb to usb a female cord to plug it all in. I get no detection. Any fix?
thanks
There is no USB driver for the Xbox 360 controller in the Atrix. In order to support it, someone needs to develop a USB driver for the Android platform for the Xbox 360 controller.
an xbox 360 wireless receiver could be connected to any device. we just need drivers. if linux drivers exist they "could" be ported.

How do they work on android tablets. There are quite a lot of videos of android tabs connecting with the xbox 360 sensor.
thanks
The Atrix needs power incoming through the USB port to enable host-mode (at least, in the stock roms; I've heard it said that this might not be necessary in android 3.0 and newer, but I have no idea.)
What this means is that nothing you plug in will work unless going through one of the docks or via an externally powered USB hub that also sends voltage back upstream. If you want to test this, try plugging in a flash drive.
(EDIT: This is directed to 1chris89, not OP, sorry.)

I've seen u have to bridge and solder the pins on the hub to get it to work? I have a 4 port usb 1.1 hub I could test it on. Otherwise is a ps3 blue tooth controller the most ideal way to use a controller on our phones?
thanks
Well, there is actually a really cheaply made hub on Dealextreme.com that does this by accident, which is what I used before I got my laptop dock.
Here's the thread on it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997187
I use both the Wiimote and a PS3 controller on mine; it just depends on which games I'm playing.
The Wiimote is easier to set up (and there are a few free apps that work just fine) while the Sixaxis Controller app is paid, and requires configuring the controller on your computer first (manually setting your phone's bluetooth address to the controller).
SOLUTION
I have a true solution to this problem. An Ice Cream Sandwich should do the trick; the tablets you guys have seen using xbox 360 controllers are honeycomb, an os with baked in game controller support since I believe 3.1
We have a solution though in the form of convergence. 4.00 being both honeycomb and an evolution of 2.3. Try this again with a wireless controller adaptor plugged in and running CM9!!! Should have native support...

i flashed to cm9, plugged it into my laptop dock and plugged in my 360 wireless receiver and its a no-go. the receiver just keeps blinking like it did on cm7. lets hear some other suggestions, im ready to try anything
solution
The only solution to this is HD multimedia dock + Xbox controller in usb + xpad.ko in system libs ( we need one compiled for kernel being used) . if anyone can attempt compiling of this module for android 4.2.1 many people shall appreciate it. SGS3 already have this module compiled so it is possible to port over

Controllers/Joypads?

OnLive recently came to Android and a number of games require a controller. I tested OnLive and it ran fine, I just need a controller.
Is there any way to use a USB/etc controller on a NT? Or like the Sixaxis or 360 controller.
Without bluetooth (which the nook tablet doesn't offer) using a wireless controller is gonna be difficult.
Maybe a wired one might work but I'm not sure if you're gonna find one that will connect to the nook tablet.
Gotta say though, I've tried some of the on live games that work without the controller and they play really well. If there IS a way to add a controller- this could really step up tablet gaming quite a bit.
How about a keyboard? Is it possible to hook up a keyboard to the NT?

Yes, technically. You need a custom rom installed though with bluetooth activated. But even then the range is very small. But ive never needed to use a keyboard from far away with my nook. Also, some work better than others. Hope this helps.
I really want to plug a keyboard to NT after I installed Quake 1,2,3. It's so smooth but I can never play it!! Like standing in front of a game shop
I thought ROM edits were locked on the NT? Or something was still locked.
But you can enable Bluetooth on the NT? I hadn't heard about that.

While there appears to be a Bluetooth capable chip in the NT, it has yet to be determined whether or not we will be able to enable it -- with or without custom kernals.

if you look closely you'll notice its actually a non-standard Micro USB. 12 pins vs the normal 5 and i believe the plug is a mm or 2 longer.

A standard micro usb cord from my samsung captivate fits it as a data cable, not a full charger granted but should charge it when turned off, the 12 pin is to charge it while in use so it would work if the nook can host usb

Gingerbread has USB host mode but the ROM has to enable it. I have a mini USB to female USB coming. I will check keyboard, mouse and sixaxis support when it does.

[Q] ZTpad Zenithink C91 + wired xbox 360 controller

Hello!
So I bought one of these chinese tablets. ZTpad Zenithink C91. Seems like ok tablet for the price. It has ICS 4.0.3 which I thought should natively support wired xbox 360 controller.
So, I plug the controller to usb port, controller keeps flashing all the lights, but nothing happens beyond that. I tried with USB/BT joystick too, but it does not find controller.
Usb stick, and HDD works via that port, so it should be ok.
There is also another USB port, which is micro-usb. Dont have adapter so I could try if that makes any difference. Anyway, I'm kind of confused, it should work but I can't get it to work. This was so hard to google I had to make an account and post this here, surely you could help!
Any ideas would be great!
Cheers, Jesse
