OK.. I want this phone debricked from WP7. Let's do this! - TG01 General

OK... so I've posted in various threads about being stuck between WM6/6.5 and WP7, but from all I've tried so far all I can do is basically go between bootloaders getting blue/white leds and doing the flashes of various ROM's and getting nowhere. I personally believe the bootloaders are not working with the phone or something along those lines. Perhaps mine (and many others) phones are slightly different versions? (Model: TG01 / FCC ID:SP2-TM5-E01 / TYPE: TM5-E01 / Below barcode: MD: 0906)
I have flashed a whole variety of 6 and 6.5 ROM's without ever having an issue. So why won't it flash back now? Hence why I think it's the boot loader(s).
So, what are my options?
1) Can I short pin it? How do I do this.. what boot loader do I need on the phone? Is a boot loader necessary for this?
2) What other software tools might I be able to try, bearing in mind I can't load anything other than a bootloader and flash stuff that doesn't work.
3) Get a different boot loader??
(And frankly: Whilst we all except the risks of flashing ROM's, there seem to be a lot of people trying WP7 and failing, and being bricked.. I believe there is a common cause and we can revive people's phones - more than just mine).

When doing the PIN method, does it matter what the .enc file is called?
I'm trying pin short method because the downloader doesn't seem to have much effect.
EDIT: Nothing seems to happen when I short pin and press reset... seems a bit odd.

i revived mine about 10 times haha have you got facebook so we can use the chat on there? then i can try my best to help you out !!!

This could potentially help me with my bricked TG01 too....
What bootloader were you on when your device 'bricked'?
I was on Windows Phone 7 bootloader

Bootloader: The bootloaders that were supplied by mirolg for the upgrade to WP7. I can flash between the WM6 bootloader and the WP7 bootloader, just it never boots (Obviously flashing the right OS after each).
I am wondering if there is a difference in the models/versions of phone that would cause the bootloader not to work?
NOTE: My only other concern is regarding the instructions. It doesn't make it clear what you need to do with the drivers for the USB. On my PC('s) is won't work with actually manually installed the drivers from the directories, otherwise no phone (port) is ever detected... but they seem to ignore this point. I had to go into the device manager to get it to see the port in order to flash. So.. is this right or wrong?

i have msn messenger, [email protected] , if you would like help i have some of my own methods to try and have worked on my tg01 sevreal times. just add me on msn messenger and i will help you out the best i can

Any news/progress ?

No progress yet. Same bricked state.
Even the short pin method won't work (Nothing actually happens when I try this method).

Trying to flash WP7 now with QPST, but it's not having it :-(
I can't get to the proper download mode, so use the hold camera button and power button, and it detects the 'download mode' it says, and then flashes multiple colours on the led. I press start in QPST, and it just goes to a white LED and says 'timeout waiting for ACK'
Major bummer.
EDIT: Phone now completed *********. Fabulous.

I did the unthinkable!

I don't e believe what I have done! with all the post regarding to running windows mobile 7 (RUU_Leo_WWE_1.34.831.1.01_by_ansar) on HD2, I was all over the net to find what type of the files/patches I need. Then I did what I still kick my self over it!!!!!!
I have HD2 T-mobile and I ran a stock ROM for HD2 but not for T-mobile (RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.43.405.1_Radio_Signed_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50_22_2_Ship.exe).
My phone will not boot or even start no light at all. removing the battery will not help! I'm not sure if I will ever can get my phone to work again
now get back to realty! I can buy a another HD2 or wait for unlocked HD7 but I like to be able to boot to Android and go back to windows 6.5 if I wish!
try getting into bootloader mode while the phone is off by holding down the volume down key, and pressing power button.
If you can get it into bootloader mode, you might be able to flash a rom via the sd card or via your PC. I think the computer recognizes a USB connection when the phone is in bootloader mode and a usb cable is connected. I'm not an expert but it may work. Anyone with more experience / knowledge, please feel free to jump in on this one.
I dont think you've totally fkd your phone............
if you can get her to bootloader then there should be a way back.......

thanks for your replay! however there is no life in my phone at all, I can't get into bootloader because the phone will not start, no led light or anything. I'm trying to do something with replacement if I can.
PS: the good part is I did buy a "brand new" HD2 T-mobile for $285 from a local person. I'm must to stop rush jumping into any Window$ 7 until it's clear what exactly I'm doing!

Wasn't that what you flashed to brick your phone in the first place?
The part I put in bold font: That's the radio-rom included in the upgrade. It should tell you that it is incompatible with the T-Mobile USA HD2. Even though it is a ".50" radio, the T-Mobile USA HD2 can only be flashed with the ".50" radios 2.06.50 and above (so 2.06.50.xx - 2.15.50.xx should not brick your phone).

It actually is misleading when people say "as long as it's a '.50' radio, it works for the T-Mobile USA HD2". Many people found out the hard way that this was false.

1.program downloader ? TG Downloader, yes? 2. which 6.5.x ROM as .bin you have flash? 3. what exactly you are planning, why use camera+ power key?
I use camera and power becouse only this combination do something with phone.
I flash bin Nokser rom.
i use program downloader 4 from nicola92 post.
it will just do this with noksers wm6.5.x rom
i also had the screen MOD fs_device. C 0248
just flash a different wm6.5.x rom or whatever other rom you want its just noksers rom that did this to me
How you upload rom? Becouse after 10 second screen turn off.

OK which ROM will it NOT do it with that will restore my phone as I have this problem as well. Please a link to a bin file would be excellent (So I don't have to convert it as I don't know how).
I have to say I feel a bit nervous about flashing something that doesn't have the 0321 radio, or shouldn't I be worried about that?

Ah.. welcome to my world :-( Are you trying a bin file or a tsw file? (And why does it seem to work for some people and not for others??)
There MUST be something common here. Either people have different versions of phones OR we are all making the same mistake somewhere?
For example: I had to go into the device manager and manually update/reinstall the drivers for the wm6.5 bootloader drivers and the wp7 bootloader driver, as otherwise it wouldn't see the phone.
Also.. I'm flashing bin files. I figure the cable is fine as well as it seems to install the bootloader so I can flash, and the phone restarts when it should etc.
I was looking round for this MOD 248 thing, and the phone not booting, and it looks like back in October 'nyl' and a few others were getting this issue, yet still managed to recover there phones. So don't lose hope
I don't know why, but it seems like certain bin files work for some people but not for others? Very strange.
If anyone has some other bin files (WM6.5 AND WP7 that they know will work, please link to them )
Thanks!

Hey mirolog
Do you have a working link to your mirom8 wm6.5 build please? I assume I will need to change radio on it from 300 to 321 before I flash though as well?
I will try the QPST method if another rom doesn't solve my issue.

Downloading now. Will let you know later. I also found a 0321 tsw file on my sd card, and have used TG Tool to decrypt it to a bin file, so if your's doesn't work I'll try this one as well
Didn't work :-( MOD 248 issue again. Retried wp7 just in case.. no good lol.
maybe qpst only way then.
I had this problem and i and i have not solved it yet. What happend?
1. At this point " 5. Install tg downloader and the 32 bit driver." driver not installed properly ....Qualcomm .... with red x. My OS is XP sp3 32bit
2. At this point " 10. Start download. on the 99% stay 1-2 min. PLEASE wait the 100% and the auto reboot " ... i get error ... invalid checksum , phone rebooted
I installed ZTEiT Common downloader and the acer f1 driver ... no problem
pressing and holding Camera + Power button get me Blue led . i flashed wp7 , phone rebooted, but nothing on the screen,
I tried to get back to wm 6.5 but at the end after reboot i get on the screen this code
MOD 0248, I tried many times and various wm6.5 ROM till i made a big mistake: flashing without SD card inside, after that PC does not recognized my TG01, I thought its bricked becouse it could not get in to downloader mode, no white led, only green, no message on the screen. I charge the battery via USB cable cut until 4,15 V in vain, nothing happend. I hope it will help others to see what risk assumes. good luck !
I see no reason why flashing without the SD card in would cause an issue.
Note: Rapidly flashing orange/red light normally means battery is too low/depleted... so recharge using either the USB cable cut trick, or buy a cheap mobile phone battery EXTERNAL charger. (One that you take the battery out to charge with).
This really does seem now to be a common theme. What the heck is going on here? Do some people have slightly different model phones, or are we doing something ever so slightly wrong?
Also: If i hold down Camera + Up Volume + Power, I get the message "checking ftm mode Shared memory RPC Failed! - Spin Forever!". Now does this mean it's not actually in ftm mode?
Bah. Just tried using TG Downloader on a Windows XP Virtual Machine. I cannot get it to open the port. Regardless of whether I have installed drivers. Even tried setting the COM Ports to be the same value in a vain hope, or installing the drivers into W7 as well, but no use :-(
It was mentioned about having to use TG01C but I can only use (on my XP Laptop) TG01W, otherwise it doesn't open the port and flash. Do I need a slightly different boot loader for my phone or something?
The bit I REALLY don't get is that unless you manually install the drivers for the phone (I.e. going into the device manager, and selecting the folder, and then letting it pick up that you have plugged in a TG QDLoader... it won't work. BUT.. the guide makes absolutely no mention of this? This seems odd.
Well... I've tried:
Different cables
Different ROM's (WP7 and WM6.5) mirolg's and nokser's
Decoding Different ROM's
Redownloaded bootloaders from different sources
Charged the battery 100% in an external charger each time
How the heck am I going to get out of the MOD 248 situation (wm6.5) / Green light (WP7)
What other options for flashing are open to me? I can't boot wm6.5 or wp7 :-( Does my phone need a different boot loader perhaps?
I do not believe my phone is bricked, because it does have a display and it can sometimes tell me the FTM check failed (using different buttons to force the FTM option). "nyl" managed to get out of this MOD 248 situation with a different ROM, but I can't for some reason.
I am scared to flash any other rom than a 0321 rom, although I can obviously change radio's on other rom's if need be.
it's really depressing to see you're trying to flash the wp7 without any sucess . so sorry for you. wp7 bootloader from my [guide] werks very well. I think it not exist a another or different wp7 bootloader.
I like to help you, but I don´t know nothing over this MOD 248 issue. In other thread i have read, one user with same/similar issue, solved it with flash with qpst method .........
have you try it?
Don't think I can do QPST method if I can't load anything? (I've had three ciders tonight so forgive me - we came second in the pub quiz.. our first win (top three!) lol ;-) )
Will look into it.
I realise I kinda vocal on my issue - and let me state right now: "I do NOT blame you guys, I thank you so VERY MUCH for creating these WP7 ROM's, you only have my upmost respect "
I do actually see a fair number of people saying they were unable to flash correctly (i.e. Stuck between WM6.X and WP7 :-( ) So I figure I have to keep trying so that I can provide a solution for those people as well. Maybe I can compare my phone model/year/serial number/place of manufacturer etc to other people that are having issues, and those that had success?

[Q] Root XPS - mission impossible

Hi all
I've spent the last couple of days trying to root my XPS (CH ICS upgraded), following the instructions found on this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1723610 and I simply can't do it. I've tried the easy way using the Fashtool with no result. I've tried the fasboot easy way and it does nothing. It hangs 'waiting on the device'.
I have installed flashtool 0.8.0, the update 0.8.6, the drivers and all. It simply doesn't work. I also tried on another PC, same thing.
Any ideas?
Thanks
are your (fastboot) drivers proper installed?
take a look into http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159 this posting from Bin4ry and make shure that your Fastbootdrivers work
if they are... try reboot the computer
Thank you for your reply.
I'm sure it's a drivers problem, anyway I tried that and it didn't ask for no driver, installed them itself. I also tried on a XP notebook and yet the same..
When it says waiting for device while pressing down the volume up key plug in the device
Thank you. Tried that too, light goes green but fastboot keeps waiting. Windows 7 x64.
Read somewhere, do I have to unlock it first? I mean, it is not locked to any carrier.

Do you have telephone from operator? Same operators bloked bootloader and you don't unlocket them. If you have in service menu bootloader unlock allowed: no, you can't conect phone with fasboot mode ( wolume +).
You must first unbloked bootloader, but I don't now how. I have got the same problem.
Why you want to root it ?! what's the real added value ?

Being able to mod it at taste, for example changing the battery from green to blue :good:
Thank you all for your help.
why not! it's maybe useful to change the color of the battery
I've also an xperia x10 pro, I root it, and tried all the existing ROMs, root apps ...etc. just for curiosity, but I get bored quickly! that's why I don't want to root my Xperia S, and now with ICS it's perfect for me ...
I was using Iphone's model since many years, I changed to Android around two months ago, I love this OS, I prefer it to iphon's one, but I found that the possibilities after the root are very poor compare to Iphone, if you jailbreak your Iphone, with Cydia you can have thousand apps, themes, customizations …. But for android, I don’t found many possibilities, or maybe I’m still a noob !?!
Well, enjoy your root …
I will be rooting and installing CM9 the moment it is up and running. While the Sony ROM works fine, I prefer the pure approach of CM. To me this ICS Sony gave us looks no different on the outside to GB, they even kept the same statusbar icons, just changed the font.
I agree with you, I was expecting more from ICS ROM, the only benefit that I get from is that I can configure the proxy directly on the specific WIFI without using any apps, but nothing for the appearance, always the same themes!
but do you really think that the CM9 is better than the official ROM?

If not, with the phone plugged in, go to device manager, find the device, uninstall it, unplug and then replug in your phone.
Yes I did, I'm very computer literate. Turns out a cable can't tell you its bad, the original cable seem to be the problem. Probably why sometimes I get slow charge when plugged into the wall. All may be null and void when I attempt n4 conversion lol , wish me luck!

Good luck. I recommend having LGNPST prepped to revert to stock, with the DLLs and the BIN/TOT version of the LG ROM. AFAIK, that's the only way to get back, because of how extensive the N4 conversion is. Reverting with a ZIP ROM in CWM is unlikely to work.
Yah , I think I'm going to give up on trying, between the cable thing, now I can only talk to my phone through adb, fast boot won't seem to work. Yes, the DLL refers to "LS970," but it works fine with the E970.
To obtain the files listed in the first four steps, I just Googled them and found Dropbox links.
The TOT/BIN file in question would be this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984545
It will take a while to download; the server appears to average 100 KB/s.
As you can seee, it's kind of a pain to set up LGNPST's environment correctly. I recommend taking all of those files and backing them up to a secure location, so that you never need to hunt them down and re-download them again.
The guide also doesn't mention that your phone needs to be in Download Mode to interact with LGNPST. This is achieved by turning the phone off, plugging it into your computer with a USB cable, then holding down the power button and both volume buttons at the same time until the Download Mode indicator shows up on your screen. It may take several attempts; the process appears to have a low tolerance for poor button press timing.
LGNPST will interact with your phone even if Windows no longer recognizes it. I think that's why it remains popular as a last-resort recovery method.

Everything you need is on Team Nocturnals website where the conversion thread is minus lgnpst and the nexus 4 drivers.
After you flash the n4 conversion, boot in recovery and then install the nexus 4 universal naked drivers (Google it, should be the first xda link.) Then you can use adb to fast boot -w and flash a recovery. Just read a little more and you'll realize its not hard at all. Just make sure everything is prepared. Good luck if you try it. It was very interesting to me. I've gone back to stock and came back to the conversion after the sdcard fix

Right now the problem I am having is getting windows to recognize my phone in boot loader/ fast boot which will prevent me from being able to fastboot -w , I have a thread on here should be titled fast boot and recovery. Posted it last night. I'm trying to make sure everything is ready, but my phone and my PC are just trying to fight me every which way lol. I'm going to try another computer and see if things run smoother, I have rooted and unlocked a bunch of phones for friends and myself on my laptop. Wondering if I'm just having a lot of driver conflicts lol
Its not about what you know , but who you know.
You might need to flash your recovery, and possibly lock your bootloader again. What I have seen over my several rooted phones is that sometimes when unlocking them, the binary code doesn't match up and will not allow the battery, USB port, and even screen to work with the software. Won't matter if you unistall or reinstall the drivers. Hope this help!

Which software are you describing? I have not lgnpst 'd anything yet, it does notice my phone both with phone on and connection settings to lg software, and in download mode. The problem I am currently stuck on is getting my PC to notice my phone in boot loader so I can't use any fb commands. I can talk to my phone when its on through adb commands no problem.
I dont want to get in trouble, the original problem was I could not get windows to notice my phone at all. I fixed that by trying a different USB cord, apparently my original is failing. If you would like to help me more so I don't get yelled at, please post in my other thread titled fast boot and recovery in the qa thread. I really want to attempt this, its my bday. So it would be a awesome little bday present to my flashaholic self
Its not about what you know , but who you know.

Yah , I think I'm going to give up on trying, between the cable thing, now I can only talk to my phone through adb, fast boot won't seem to work. Plus I can't find a lgnpst guide anywhere for our phone. No idea where to get the DLL I'm supposed to flash with, nor where to get the files to flash back. This is my first lg, I've been a HTC guy, so I know nothing about lgnpst. Thanks though

Is it possible to completely Hard Brick the LG G2?

I'm just wondering if you can completely Hard Brick a LG G2 to a point, where there is no revive possible.
I can purchase a cheap LG G2 international version, but the seller says that he broke it during flashing a Kernel.
Can you for example revive a phone, that had a Kernel from completely different phone flashed?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

If it's true he only flashed a new kernel then u can restore it. If he messed with the partitions then.... No. If he used a broken usb cable and fried it....
Well ask to try the phone before u by it. Also check if it's stolen
Alright, I gathered some more information from the seller.
He tried updating TWRP, but he followed wrong instructions from some website.
He can´t enter Recovery or Download Mode on the Phone.
The Display is active, but only Backlight.
When he connects the Phone to his Computer, it shows multiple Mass Storages, but the LG Software doesn´t recognize it.
Is this a common problem, that is easy to fix, or should I rather wait for another Deal to come up.
p.s. I asked him for a receipt, and he says that he has one.

If the guy was updating through TWRP, he probably have some knowledge on the matter, and the chances that he bricked it for good is high.
When I messed up my G2 a few times, being able to enter in download mode was the hint that the phone was revivable, if him really can't enter the download mode, then it is probably a bigger problem.
But the question is, by buying this possible lemon, how much will you be saving compared to buying a brand new?
If it's showing up like that, if you have a Linux machine you may be able to use dd to flash factory images to the partitions. There is a guide to it somewhere on here. But even if you were successful in flashing those, it really depends on how badly he screwed it up. In particular I really hope he didn't damage or wipe his efs. Or at least has it backed up.
Honestly, I'd point him to the right guides and have him fix it. If he screwed up his efs, or messed the partitions up, or fried something, it's dead and not coming back. If all he did was flash a kernel in twrp and it was actually from this phone and it was just a bad download or flash or something, then you'd probably be okay, but if that were the case you'd get a secure boot error and still be able to enter download mode. Personally, I would not buy a phone that won't boot, especially if the seller isn't even sure what's wrong with it.

sounds recoverable, if there is a backlight and mass storage comes up that's good, you can dd partitions with linux
no backlight + no recognizable usb device at all = bricked
still, buy at your own risk
It is.. i just did by flashing a broken rom.. sent it to the repair center and they replaced the motherboard
Right, I asked him if the Device shows as qhsusb_bulk in device Manager, and it does.
The only thing that worries me, is that there is no Boot Logo, most of the people in the Linux Fix Thread atleast get a LG Logo and not just Backlight.
I´m really unsure what to do, I can save like 150€ by buying the broken G2, but well . . . I dont know if I can fix it.
Another problem is, that I have not a single clue on how to operate Linux/Ubuntu, and the only real fix requires either of those

Just look up a guide on how to install an Ubuntu virtual machine. You should be able to connect your G2 to that virtual if you let it capture the USB port. If you can get it cheap, buy it and try to negotiate so you might have a chance on selling it for higher later on if you can't fix it. To me though, it sounds quite fixable, I would go for it.

this doesn't really matter, when I was trying to mess with the bootloader and corrupted it a few times I've never had the LG logo, as long as it comes up as storage you can DD it - the only time its a true brick is with no backlight and no usb device
if theres no boot logo you probably need to DD the aboot in

That's actually just killing a fly with a sledgehammer. 99.9999% sure you got a softbrick.

1x windows 8.1 (with ubuntu)
1x window 7 x64
1x windows 7 x86
Reinstalled all drivers, tried everything, but i couldnt get any usb connection.
- Factory reset? Freeze
- Normal boot? Stuck at bootlogo
- Download mode? Stucking at the loading screen

I had that problem when updating TWRP too. You have to be careful because these recoveries are only made for specific firmware versions. I cant remember how I fixed the issue after only being able to get a backlight on and no image, but I did fix it and my phone works fine. I do think you will need the TWRP files already on the phone to fix though, so you can somehow manage to flash back. They will need to be on the phone since you can push anything via ADB

i've been in this bricked situation when i was trying the 4.4.2 update manually...completely bricked, could not get into download mode too...so gave it to the service centre which at first said the main board will have to be changed when recovering through software upgrade failed...next day i got the phone back as they managed to flash the software back on it...
does not end here...i tried to flash optimus g pro 2 rom through twrp and same thing happened again...but was lucky this time as i could enter download mode and flashed kdz to recover...

And yes i truly believe that our device can be hard bricked like i did mine today.
I tried to compile a custom bootloader for G2 using Qualcom's sources and fraction of LK. But in doing so i left my phone in a quasi-state where it will not connect as a usb device coz it does not pass the bootloader (Although bootloader is working as it should). .
So the only two option remain here for me is
1. To send phone back to LG service center where they'll do idk what.
2. To use JTAG or short the ic (Wonder if it could be done ) i.e manually open the phone and boot into the primary bootloader(Qcom legacy BL).
See that's how you can hard brick ur phone the right way

Your LK build wouldn't have matched the sbl1, anything other than LG's signed aboot wouldn't work.. /:

But it did work coz our bootloader enfoces the signature check not in the sbl.(Our Primary boot loader)
i'm sure of it because it tries to go to download option but freezes at initial stage.
had it been the case my device would've been detected as qucom_bulk device or so..

You my dear friend are a victim of a curroupt bootloader seqence(NOT THE CoRRUPT BOOTLOADER) i.e
Your phone would start something like
1- EFI initialization ok
2-Primary Boot Load -ok
3-Vendor Boot Load -ok
4- Error unable to find proper boot sequence- system halted
So ur best options are the one that i've stated just above this thread.
My case. I root and flash custom recovery then apply OTA = medium brick. Download mode was not functioning, only recovery. To make matter worse, I flashed KK stock rom through ADB in recovery = super brick. Then I went to LG service center with poker face asked for reparation. They asked (confirm) whether your phone is rooted or not (they had already know though) and I just said like It is my sister's phone. Then they they open the phone and maybe directly format the sd card with some stuff. My phone is restored again afterward. In my opinion, software modification can always be repaired unless you fry your phone through overclock or overvolt.
