How to calibrate the compass? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi everyone,
How do I calibrate the compass? Is there an app I can use or is there test app on the prime I can run to calibrate the sensor? Can't seem to find any app installed and the compass app I'm using is off by 90-180 degrees.
I'm using the ICS 9.4.2.11 OTA update.
Cheers.

Go in general Android threads, nothing specific to prime, or google.

Just move your phone in the shape of a 8.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk

Had the same issue with my Prime depending on the app I was using.
Waiving in a figure 8 didn't seem to really help either.
... for what it's worth, "GPS Status" was the best app for regularly showing the correct info.

The app called "compass" has that calibration setting where you move it in a figure 8 but I'm not sure if it is the same thing as doing that without the app installed.

I've tried the app "Compass" and used its built in calibration tool. I did the whole figure 8 thing but the compass is still off by 90 degrees or so. I have also tried "GPS Status" and that one does show the correct info.
I think my compass is calibrated but I believe the compass apps in the market are not compatible with tablets, though they work for phones. I saw an article about this before but can't seem to remember where and I can't check to see how to move forward. It has something to do with the programing code they used or not used based on google's specs.
Thanks anyways guys.

Issue [SOLVED] > market > search results found doesn't equal search results shown.
Hello fellow's
Have you guys noticed that since the new android market came upon us, that there is troublesome to not say impossible to find some applications using the search function.
For instance, if I search "mario"; I will have 3 apps showing. All though the top bar says it found over 2000 results. Nevertheless I would not be able to download or even have these results displayed for me.
It's probably worth mentioning that I'm not the only one that having this issue. I've noticed that ALL phones have the same issue as I do. Some of these different phones have custom kernels and custom roms, but not all. So there's no need for searching error in roms, phones, etc.
I have successfully uninstalled NEW Android Market from my phone and restored the OLD android market.
It works just fine as it displays all search results that are found.
Yet the problem remains since google has arranged a silence update of market. Within 30 minutes I have the new market once again installed.
* Is there any solution?
* If not, is it possible to turn off silent updates?

Me too i have problem with market from XDAndroid it doesen't show all application : /
My guess is that everyone are having the same experience. Although I don't think too many are aware of this, rather major, bug.
To clarify for those who still doesn't have a clue of what I'm talking about:
Pay attention to the top bar where the search hits are stated. Remember this number of found apps. Compare this to how many apps you REALLY are shown. Shouldn't be too many scrolls until you reach rock bottom. XD
Also.. Let us try to exclude that this hasn't got anything to do with any regional restrictions of any kind, by stating our nationality, carrier, brand of phones/tablets, custom/stock rom and the current status of the search function in android market, at the beginning of our first posts in this thread. I'll probably be first one out to do this.
For all your convenience; just copy/paste the template below:

When you do a search in the new market only a few apps show.
You have to tap on the bar that tell you how many apps found and the rest will show.
Dosen't work with XDAndroid (i have HTC Topaz with FRX07.1 last kernel, rootfs)

I wish it would be that easy.
I don't mean to be rude in no way. But have you even tried that yourself?
My experience says that's bogus. If it would be pushable then probably it would look more like a button or clickable link, wouldn't it?
200.000.000.000$ Google inc. Should atleast provide hints on how to get all apps to show. Besides the billions; Google is the world largest internet search provider. It would be a great FAIL by Google if this isn't a big bug.
Nevertheless, button or not, the tapping trick will not do it. I've tried that on atleast 8 phones, different brand, different roms, different kernels. It just makes me feel stupid, tapping like a freak on my friends phones.
If you still claims that tapping is the trick. Then I would like you to take screenshots of it.
Please search for "Mario" and post screenshots of new market showing more than 5 results of Mario.
And if it is true that tapping is the way to go. Then we've probably have got ourselves a regional issue.
Also... Please provide information about your country, phone, rom, etc, etc,
The End.

Simple solution: go to online market to search and download the apps you need.
So simple!

Same problem.
Only just noticed it now. Thought it was my phone as google searches would not yield any results for me on the problem, probably due to wrong wording mind. I'm on stock Motorola atrix 2.2 UK rom with newish market update.
What a major oversight by google, surely they should have fixed this by now.
I do a search for music and the grey bar says there are 25978 results I click on the tab arrow to display what I assume will be the 25978 app results. I get 20 apps, that's it? Everyone here who has actually noticed still having this issue I take it?
I have this issue too. Was trying to search for "Handcent" but it returns only 2 results, neither are the actual app.

Agree, I touch there, it shows 3 hits, and 1311 results along the top:
See imageshack.us/photo/my-images/853/sc20111028081055.png/
Sorry I don't have enough posts yet to include the link.
The issue is that you can not touch and open the additional 1311 results.
easy fix for market.
Use any apparently that will freeze apks. Freeze market upgrader. Then uninstall market updates in manage applications. Once you uninstalled the update, you'll be back on the old market until you unfreeze the market updater. Hope this helps.
Even though I'm not rooted I have had that happen to me as well. Another problem I have is getting stuck in download loops. The only fix is to reboot my phone.

If you can't get the app you want, than that's a real issue. You could search for it on you PC on the android market and then install from there to you phone.

Thanks!!
That was exactly what I was hoping for. How to disable that stupid silent update of google.
That really did the trick!
I can't understand how I possible could have missed that obvious application; "Market Updater.apk", when going through system apps over and over again, looking for the damn silent updater application.
I greatly appreciate your help. I was about to surrender to Google's ignorance and become one of it's stupidity.
Again, thank you for taking your time helping.

GPS problems

Hi was wondering if anyone has similar problems to me with the GPS not getting a fix. Most of the time it functions fine with Google navigation but there are times like tonight when it cannot get a fix. I downloaded the GPS status app from the market which showed only a couple of satellites where visable and it would lock on to any of them. I then went in to the tools part of the app and reset something called a-gps data (whatever that is?) Then I clicked the download link and it received some data. After that the GPS got an instant lock and has been fine since.
I just wondered if anyone else experiences these problems and if so how do you fix it. My nexus s never had a problem getting a fix I'm just curious as to why I'm having problems with this handset
Edit to say I updated to the latest maps yesterday so I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I have been experiencing some delay in google maps, but i think that is because i am traveling right now, and i don't have Internet access every where. But you should have clear view to the sky has well

this thread.
helped a lot of us out. agps is assisted gps iirc. instead of doing calculations itself, your phone downloads data instead (i think).
Thanks ill have a look at that thread. Seems to be working well for the time being but for how long I'm not sure
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
makes a world of difference. get a lock within 5 secs normally as opposed to upto 5 minutes!
just remember, if you flash a new rom, the conf file gets replaced. i was convinced that the rom i was on was causing poor gps until i replaced it with a backup off my sd card
So does this require root tommo? I haven't had chance to go through the whole thread yet as I'm not at my computer. I'm not rooted so would have to go through that procedure too
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
yeah, you need an app like root explorer to get access to the "etc" folder where the gps.conf file is.
very easy to do mind.
Thanks buddy ill give it a try once I get home

[Q] how to keep GPS active when phone goes to sleep?

Does anyone know a way to keep GPS running when the phone goes to sleep? There are times when I want to have my location continuously reported to Google Latitude, and it's a terrible waste of battery to keep the screen running just to do that.
I'd thought there would be an easy answer to this, but I'm not finding one. There's a two-year-old XDA post on this question here without any real answers. And I found a post elsewhere that suggests that Tasker can make the phone keep GPS working when the screen goes off, but I don't see any function in Tasker for this.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks, Alan

I found Tasker sucked the hell out of my battery, but nevermind... It depends on the app some of them will just pull GPS data when it is asked for, which im sure Latitude would do... What are you trying to achieve exactly?
EDIT: If you do try Tasker you can set it so certain apps will activate the GPS and certain screen times, hours of the day etc...
Thanks! I'm trying to find a way for Google Latitude (which I think just runs within maps) to record my path via GPS (say when I'm on a hiking trip) without the screen needing to be on constantly, which is the only way I've found to do that so far. But if you are saying that I can make a tasker profile which will tell my phone to keep the GPS on when Maps is running, then I think that would solve this! Or do you have a better approach in mind?

There is an app specifically for that on the market I can't remember what its called though sorry just search hiking or something

OK -- I found a really nice app for this: Latify. (There's also the unfortunately named Backitude, which looks like it would get the job done.)
Thanks for the tips, everyone!

Sorry to bump this, but I thought you might like this better if you want to keep your GPS receiver always on when your screen is off (will drain your battery of course)
https://market.android.com/details?...51bGwsMSwxLDEsImcuYW5kcm9pZC5ncHN0cmFja2VyIl0.
GPSTracker Lite, specifically made for what its name is. It tracks your path. I use it in my car, in which case the phone is always on the charger when this is running.
Hope this helped.

How to Properly Use Google Sky-Map?

Hey all,
Does anyone know how to properly use the app Google Sky-Map with our device? I'm not really sure how to hold it correctly to where I'll get accurate results. How should I hold it in regards to the accelerometer? GPS Settings? Other recommendations?
Thanks for any and all help!
~ Zane
When I used it I just turned it into landscape and use like that also the app should be set to automatic somewhere in settings. Just hold it up to the sky and what ever it shows is behind your device.

Hmm, alright-- what do you mean it should be set to "automatic"? And does it shake the screen constantly for you as well, as in it's not fluid whatsoever and jumps around?
I appreciate the response!

I'm sorry to bump this post, but I recently downloaded Google Sky and initially had some finnicky problems with it, it kept bouncing with what direction I was looking at. Had to download "GPS Tools" app, reset the GPS and recalibrate the compass, and it seemed to work a bit better. Good luck!

Android GPS Problem

Hi, does anyone know why my car android system GPS is showing an incorrect time please? I have the android time and zone set to manual +1 BST. The picture shows the GPS Test app with the UTC and local times completely wrong to the actual time in the UK.
Thanks
Could the GPS is taken it's time from the gps sat instead of locally set time..

I have checked my android device and I don't have this gps.config file. Anyway, I have tried a number of sat nav apps and they all seem to work off the local time. The Tom Tom app seems to always show an arrival time 2 hours behind which is what prompted this original post.
I prefer the tomtom app which is why this issue is annoying. Any more suggestions?
Dobbo
Did you check the tomtom forum?

I have been on the TomTom forum and had no joy there.
Maybe your device take it's time coordinates from the radio, like RDS.
Or it's just not supported.
Edit; disconnecting the satnav for an reset seems to work on some devices.
Sent from my Lenovo A820 using xda premium
That appears to be an Enco / EWay device, possibly for an e46. I have an Enco B046, which presents the same issue. The UTC time reported by the GPS is incorrect, and is actually off by 14 hours on my system. TomTom uses the time from the GPS to determine your time of arrival. Nothing like going on a 1 hour trip, leaving at 2PM, and having TomTom tell you you'll arrive at 1AM.
I'm pretty sure the GPS driver is poorly-written. It doesn't report location accuracy, which is why Google Maps / Navigation will not let you use Turn-By-Turn (driveabout) mode. Google Maps looks for ACCURACY_FINE to be true, which is defined as...I can't remember, but like, 40 meters accuracy or less, or something. The GPS driver on these units reports null, or possibly 0, depending on how it's extrapolated, for the location accuracy.
It's a system called Andrive which is very much similar. I think the firmware is faulty which the supplier is looking into although very slowly.
