[Q] Carrier Branded ROM? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I would like to know if there's someone that has the carrier branded ROM for Movistar (Peru). My galaxy's vibrator stopped working so I need to claim its warranty.
I know Infratech might get it, but since I have less than 10 posts I can't ask for it in the Original Development Forum where his "carrier branded roms" post is located...
But if anyone got it please let me know,
Thanks in advance.
Also, after rebranding the phone and using the jig to reset the custom firmware counter the phone should be ready to take if back the dealer right?

You should be able to use the one from Argentina (UHKG7) just fine. Looks like it's the same version as the latest one for Peru.

Carrier branded firmware here & country specific non-branded firmware here, or if you're after the latest firmware for your carrier/phone/country try Checkfus (search for it on here).

Thanks MistahBungle, but the one I'm looking for is not listed there, and I cannot request it there because I still have less than 10 posts, I'll try to get to it without making nonsense posts.

I think my phone actually came with KE5, and I think there was no Kies update ever for my Carrier-Country combination, so wouldn't that be a problem and let them know I have been flashing it?

In that case, use the one from Columbia, which is UHKE5. It's also the closest listed country for Movistar to Peru geographically anyways, so it's probably from the same batch.

Cool, I tried with checkfus and found there's a newer firmware,
This is how I got my phone:
Product Code: GT-I9100LKLSAM
Phone Version: I9100UHKE3
PDA Version: I9100UHKE5
CSC Version: I9100SAMKE2
and it says the latest firmware for SAM is:
PDA: I9100UHKG7
CSC: I9100SAMKG1
Phone: I9100UHKG4
I can't download CheckFus to download it because the sites tells me that no hotlinking is permitted and keeps sending me back to the homepage, so I'll search for CheckFus elsewere and try to get that firmware.

Ok, it is downloading right now, thanks for your help, after it finishes I'll flash it and use the jig to reset the counter, as far as I know it will be ready to take it back,
Any recomendations for making a backup of my phone as it is right now? Thanks again.

A Nandroid. But I think you'd need to root it again to do so.

Hello RaulGuichard,
Please could you post the site where you find the firmware. I'm looking for it but no lucky.

Noob pretty confused about rooting/unlocking

First, I did read/search quite a bit, but I need some help to get started...
The Samsung will be released in Canada on July 14th, from Bell Canada. But I will be using the phone on a different compatible carrier (Telus).
Therefore I will need to unlock the phone, which seem doable with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064978
But before it seem I need to root the phone.
Ref. this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
This confuse me:
The stock kernels are to be used to restore the kernel version after rooting and are not needed for updating the firmware.
You do not need to root or unroot the device to update the firmware.

From what I understood, there seem to be the ROM: which seem to contain android (original or customized), what would the firmware and the kernel be?
Obviously, there is not likely to be a stock firmware from Bell on launch day. Is it needed to root the phone?
My end goal would be to: root the phone, keeping the original android on the phone, and unlocking it.
I can always buy an unlocked version for 100$ more.....
Thanks you

No pick a similar version root .

Rooted phone is no longer original firmware /android you have changed the kernel .

I am fine with voiding the warranty...
Can I use any of theses: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 ? (As I think they are "official samsung" rom).
Can I apply a firmware that is in that list to my canadian Galaxy S2?
Well have to see what the differences are with the Bell version of the device before this question can be answered.
Edit : intratech has right of course.
If no hardware modifications :
If you have a branded operator firmware, you will need root to unlock it.
Usualy, to root it, you update your GS2 with an official samsung firmware, flash insecure kernel or CF Root kernel and then use the APK to unlock your phone.
I recommand before doing this, you find and download your original firmware in case of warranty support.
Kernel is the heart of the firmware/ROM
Firmware/ROM is the same.

Sorry to sound noobish but once and for all, rooting voids your warranty because the counter is raised? You can undo everything else (uninstall superuser/busybox and flash the stock kernel, you can even use a jig to reset the counter but did somebody with a rooted phone ever get to a point where he needed to make use of the warranty and if so what did samsung say and how much did that person undo (signs of rooting)?
I'm still unrooted because of the letters that Samsung sent to it's employies looking for signs of rooting when dealing with warranty claims. As good as the phone is and as much improvements rooting brings, is it really worth flushing 2 years of warranty down the drain?

Have you ever heard about phones refused in support by samsung cause of rooting ?
If you flash back your original firmware and reset your counter with a JIG usb, I am pretty shure they will accept the return.
But you sould always do as you feel it. If you are affraid of rooting your phone cause of the waranty, don't root it

Subscribed to this thread.
I plan to do exactly the same as x-cimo (except I'm with Fido) and trying to gather the complete steps for root and unlock.
I am planning to pick-up the phone at bell next week if there is a money back warranty.
I still need to know what I need to provide here about the phone..

You need to check if it is the same hardware : Exynos 1.2 Gh .... as others.
If not, firmwares provided (for now) in the section developpement won't fit your GS2.
In order to root, you will have to flash your phone with an official samsung firmware (without an opérator touch).
So you will have to wait someone to post the generic firmware from your country (intratech will certainly add it in his thread then).

Why does the firmware is country specific? Why would a UK firmware not work in canada for example? I am just curious.
How do I check if it use the same chipset or hardware version?
rooting SGS2 -PDA:KF3 / PHONE:KE7 / CSC:KF1 (DBT)
Hi ALL,
I just updated my SGS2 firmware last night via kies. As expected the previous rooted fw was lost.
I downloaded the GT-I9100_NEE_I9100XWKF3_I9100XXKE7_I9100OXXKF1.tar and I9100XWKF3_Kernel.tar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278&page=69 and follow root guide.
Loading the firmware using ODIN was successful. When I run SuperOneClick v1.9.5, the process stop Running psneuter..... I also tried using the other exploit option but it also stop Running gingerbreak.....
Did anybody experienced the issue?
Please help..

Firmware is hardware and country specific.
You have custom data configurations with your country operator (for 3G and MMS). They are already configured in you firmware.
You have your langage dictionary too, keyboard configuration (AZERTY QWERTY QWERTZ ...)
Will you have NFC ? in France we don't have it and our firmware don't have drivers for NFC ...

Hi,
I just rooted my SGS2 and i have the same issues you did. The SuperOneClick hung at "Running psneuter"
I then followed the instructions from Chainfires thread here.
The CF-Root file i used was the KE4 version in the fourth post down: CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KF4-v4.0-CWM4.zip - [Click for QR Code] (5.96 MB, 5066 views)
I then used the stock firmware for my provider to flash back.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Why did you have to re-flash the stock firmware after applying CF-Root?
I thought CF-Root didn't affect the current firmware on your device.
Thanks!

If there is custom data configuration with the country operator, then doesn't that mean the 3G and MMS won't be correct for an unlocked SGSII from the UK in Canada? Or is this something that can be changed afterwards (I assume so)
Assuming that the hardware is the same for the upcoming Canadian version, these are the steps that I plan to take:
1. Purchase the phone with no contract (would be locked to Bell)
2. Use Odin to flash latest firmware for UK version. (Looks like it'll be XWKF3 - XEU (Generic UK+Europe) : http :// www .multiupload.com/ZZYM5ZAFA0 -- referenced from intratech's ROM's thread)
3. Follow Chainfire's rooting instructions and Flash CF-Root kernel for firmware (CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4.zip) (-- referenced from chainfire's CF-Root thread)
4. I should have a rooted phone by this stage. Next, Download and install Galaxy S2 Sim Unlock. (https :// market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.sgs2simunlockcode)
And hopefully if all goes well, I'll have a rooted, unlocked SGS2 that works with Fido.
Would really appreciate it if anybody sees issues with my plan or can confirm that it should work.
Some questions:
* how can I confirm beforehand if the hardware will be compatible. Are we just concerned about the same cores used or does the hardware for radio come into play also?
Thanks,

[Q] Where can I download O2 Branded Firmware ?

Hi,
I have recently flashed my Samsung Galaxy S2 with KE7 update which debranded my phone. Then I searched an O2 branded firmware from this website but after flashing my phone with this firmware, I am having two problems. Firstly, when I insert my sim it not only asks O2 Pay monthly customers but also asks for Tesco customer option which is quite strange. Secondly, I am not able to do any updates from KIES as it gives error message of THIS VERSION OF THE PHONE CANNOT BE UPDATED.
Can some one please help me to find out original O2 branded firmware? or how to solve this problem please?

Why is it strange you have unbranded firmware not belonging to O2 with a CSC that gives as required the O2 networks of which Tesco is a VN .
But as the man said stock O2 is available if you want to go that route .

Dude you seriously need to learn to use the quote function. It's kind of hard to figure out were the poster you are replying to post ends and your response begins.
@OP: You will have option for O2 PREPAY, O2 POST PAY and TESCO. This is normal since Tesco mobile piggy back on the O2 network, Just select O2 PostPay if you're on a contract.

Thanks for the quick response ... I was confused because previously I only had two options: O2 Pay Monthly customer, O2 Pay As you Go. I got worried because of this Tesco options as I was afraid that it may void my warranty.
Secondly, I am not able to update this version from KIES. Is it because of the current firmware version or is it because there is no update available? My phone's firmware details are as follows:
PDA: I9100XXKE7
CSC: I9100O2UKG2

There may just not be any firmware update out, 3UK was still on KE2 till not very long ago (not that i was on stock for more than 10min).
If you want to you can just flash a stock rom via odin, you dont need to change your CSC to a new one. (its just APN settings, and any silly bundles apps)

Further, I don't know how to change CSC. Is it something we do manually or is it done automatically when we flash the firmware?

No, bad idea, thats going backwards.
KE(X) > KF(X) > KG(X)
The exe is a self extracting archive if you had read the thread, you click it and it will extract to where you want it to.
Do some more reading about version numbers.
When flashing via odin CSC is just a part of the rom you might put into odin, as it says in the thread.

Yes you are right it is going backwards but my only motive behind this is to bring my mobile into a very simple way of updating via KIES. May be after coming to KE2 version, KIES might update it to any latest update for O2. Please advise.

Just wanted to share an update of my problem. I am worried that having a different firmware than the original one may create problem for warranty claim. ANY SOLUTION PLEASE??

I flashed my mobile with KE2 and had the same problem with KIES as it gave me same message, 'this device version cannot be updated' but when I tried update firmware from mobile setting options it detected a newer available version and so it installed KE7 version and after restart it gave me a message of additional firmware which I confirmed and now I have XWKF3 installed in my mobile. Which is a big relief now.
P.S Kies still shows the same message, 'This mobile version cannot be updated'.

You would need to root the phone and then use a mod or an app for unlocking your phone, you can do this without the need of flashing another ROM, I believe I saw an app for unlocking the S3 on the market just look for s3 simunlock. Just remember you need to root your phone first. Also there is a toolkit for flashing the s3 on the forums and the option to simunlock is there too.

[Q] Software update vs country of purchase

Hi everyone
I am confused with this problem that I have: I bought Samsung Galaxy S3 international version GT-i9300. Now, I live in Australia. My question is, when I go to my phone to check software update or Samsung Kies to check software update, which will be visible/show up/ be downloaded to my phone? The latest version for International SGS3 OR the latest version for Australian SGS3?
Confusing isn't it?
So long story short: when there is a new update, which one is it? Is the software/firmware update based on the country of purchase (In this case, international version) or where I am living (Australia)?

Well i was told to post in the questions forum so that is what I did
you hit "report" on your post and ask for it to be moved
Alright my apologies, I am the noob.
So, just making sure, because I still do not quite get it.
I will simplify this question even more. When there is asoftware update for my SGS3, which one will my phone download? The international software update(Because my phone is international) or will my phone download the australian software update(Because I live in australia)?
Still need help with this.

It will download the update that is in line with your firmware code. If you use an Australian firmware it will be the update for this Australian firmware once it is released.

Thanks mate
Well, so it is based on my phone, NOT the country I am living in?
Mine is internatinal version GT-i9300, so when there is an update, my phone will download that one, and the Australian update is irrelevant for me?

It is not so much the intentional but the firmware Version, e.g. uk, Australian etc., you can find it under settings about phone. If your firmware is e.g. The uk version and stock you will get UK otas.

Samsung Galaxy S duos updates for unsupported countries

my first post, okay i live in ethiopia and i happen to get my hands on a galaxy s duos which i doubt its original since it dont have the duos logo on right top and antutu says i have 3.1 and .3 mp of camera but its the same elsewhere on the phone, ram, processor.
Now my question is my country is not listed on the update list and so can i use a very updated rom from random country and update it? or should i wait to someday it gets in? and if yes with what installer cause OTA is impossible?
okay i have to use odin, but please tell me the the rest!

first you have to be sure it is original or not check on setting-about
and post also check on the battery compartment back of the phone and post
if it is not original you cant use odin you have to try something else

your build is xxama2 and from the list those build are for east asia countries like philipines Thailand etc
where did you got this device from?
do you have a package if yes check the package the country code will be there
or flash a firmware that is nearest to you

the GLB with xxbmd2 which is required for most custom roms is philipines and in bracket it says global. should i go for it? i got the device from a contraband importer in which its the convinient means to get cheap phones though illegal. its very expensive from certified importers. to accomplish that they have to ditch the carton and pretend its theirs so its more likely from asia but no idea where its originally from!
hey i saw this baseband upgrader with KOR v3.4.0
ckandroidupdates.blogspot.com/2013/08/upgrading-samsung-galaxy-s-duos-to-kyle.html?m=1
is it safe and correct or the same as glb rom?

it is not global it is globe
it is a telecom company like at&t sprint etc
so that will not work for you just go for phlipines or any xxama2 country and find the updated one

And usualy samsung updates.com and sammobiles.com are genuine sites in we believe which provides original samsung firmwares so downloading from those will be better and i guess your phone is as said is an asia model so download an asian firmware nothing bad will happen if it doesnt work we can try another
