I haven't heard anything about it for a while. The last I heard they were discontinuing the lapdocks because they weren't as popular as they had hoped.

Waiting for a fire sale! Too bad the lapdock doesn't fully support the photon....

Do you have a link to that info? There was speculation of the lapdocks being discontinued, but Moto's CEO said that he saw value & product differentiation by having the lapdocks, and planned to stick with them. Nothing about them being discontinued.
AllThingsD Article: (I can't link yet b/c of my low post count...)
"Jha said that the company is making further refinements and still believes in the concept for the future."
See this thread on XDA for the link:

I have the Lapdock 100 for my MoPho. It's a very specific use case, but I enjoy the bump in screen size when I'm lying in bed at night watching Netflix, Crackle, Hulu+, and video podcasts. My TV in the bedroom is *just* old enough that it missed the evolution to TV apps. Anyway, I know some would say to just use a laptop, but I don't want to deal with the heat issue with my blankets and stuff. Also, the compactness of the Laptop 100 is just small enough that makes it really easy to set aside when I'm done. I know...I know.....super nichey, but it works for me.
*Side note* -- My wife doesn't get mad at me anymore for "watching TV" while she's trying to sleep.

im looking to buy one. with my job, it would n=be nice having somthing like this

Picked up my lapdock 500 off the Verizon site. $200 with free 2 day shipping. Couple that with lokis work and yes, its as cool as you're imagining it is right now

I'm picking one up next week and as we speak I havea atrix dock coming Wednesday that I going to mod for my wife phone

Lapdock 500-photon compatibility issues
I've had the LAPDOCK 500 two weeks, the PHOTON since October.
Here is a list of features that currently DO NOT WORK w/the LAPDOCK-PHOTON combo:
1) ETHERNET
2) WEBCAM
3) SD CARD SLOT
4) VGA OUTPUT
5) Possible USB issues (USB ERROR Icon in notification bar)
6) SOUND (just recently discovered)
I'm running the stock O/S on the PHOTON,no mods to the LAPDOCK 500.
I haven't been on much at XDA at all recently,or postwise, much period.
Been relatively satisfied w/the MO PHO's performance,until I got the LAPDOCK 500.
The compatibility issues were a known issue, except for the lack of sound, which was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.
I've posted in the MOTOROLA FORUMS,but have yet to get any feedback, good or bad, which brings me here to this forum.
If anyone has questions regarding PHOTON-LAPDOCK compatibility issues,or,possible testing of related tricks,tips,etc.....,I'll try to make myself available as possible. All I ask is some patience, regarding time & technical expertise,as the LAPDOCK is my only "computer" & my expertise in modding is limited to rooting & ROM installation on my previous phone, the HUAWEI ASCEND. PM is the best, most timely way of contacting myself w/any inquiries, but,I will be staying tuned in to XDA on a more regular basis from here on out.

call me cheap or whatever but i would buy one for 100. for 200-300 i can get a netbook or notebook. it just seems to me that the product is over priced. when att had the firesale of the atrix lapdock for $50, they sold 10k units. thats def a high interest in lapdocks.

I'm the cheap one,as SPRINT is my sole ISP w/the unlimited smartphone plan. One service serves three needs:Home, phone,& mobile broadband replacement w/the LAPDOCK 500.
The price may seem steep($300),but,it serves my connectivity needs & saves a fair amount of $ per month. The payback w/this set-up is realized in no time. But,if this is more of a curiousity than an everyday tool,I'm sure the price will drop on the LAPDOCK 100/500 as newer tech hits the market, & then you could find a deal on one.
This type of modular connectivity is the sign of things to come(ASUS PADFONE,UBUNTU for ANDROID),etc... and as this technology finds traction in the mainstream, price drops & added features are sure to follow.

UPDATE :
The SD CARD slot & USB ports work, just no audio from the media stored on either.
The audio issue has been identified & a fix is in the works,as is an update to address the other non-functioning features.

@KOLIOXDA thanks for your helpful post,
Alright, I'm going to try the photon/lapdock 500 combo bc my netbook is broken. I really hope they update to fix the connectivity issues soon, because I really want the webcam and um, sound.
Anyway, I found this and just bought it for $149.00, which is really worth the experiment.

Wonder if this is the beginning of the 'fire sale'...? Hopefully it's somewhat supported in the CM9/ICS at least.

I joined when I saw this post but I do not have sufficient posts to to go to the OP. If this is still unsold let me know. Thank-you.

I just got my $149 500 lapdock delivered and can't get it to do anything with my Photon. The webtop won't stay on the screen for more than a few seconds (keeps alternating between a webtop screen and the flashing red moto logo). Is there a certain system update level the Photon needs to be on? I changed the Photon System version to 99.9.9 to prevent auto updates breaking the dockless webtop.

2.3 Upgrade from Viewsonic support [With Jailbreak]
I know this probably a moot point on a ROM loader site, but I just bought a jailbreak and 2.3 upgrade for my G Tablet, which leaves the warranty intact. It is coming from their 3rd party support company, U.S. Merchants.
They helped me through some problems with Tap-n-Crap. In fact, this jailbreak also removes any constraints on where I can shop. Bye-Bye Amazon and Handango, [I could never get Handango to work]
The ROM upgrade cost $90, but at least the warranty is still good. Maybe when it is out, I will be more adventurous. btw, they were selling the dock for $49.
Regards,
Sre
Would you mind posting a little more info as to the 'jailbreak' you received?
For example, when you go to settings and tablet info what does it say?
If be interested to know if they've cooked their own ROM (which they shouldn't have charged you for) our of the they've sold someone elses?
I'm guessing others would like to know as well.
Thanks for letting us know about this....
Intriguing.

Photon Lapdock IN STOCK only paid $187 @ Sprint Telesales...

Hello All,
I've been lurking around here quite a bit and wanted to share with y'all that the Photon Lapdock is now in stock at Sprint.
If you're a premier customer and purchase an additional accessory (I purchased the least expensive item --- screen protectors) you'll get 25% off of your entire purchase.
My lapdock came out to only $187 and change + tax
Just thought I'd pass on to my fellow forum friends that are saying they're not happy with the $250 price tag.
Just couple it with a cheap accessory and you'll get it for 25% off.
Oh, I also wanted to say that they gave me free expedited shipping. They told me 2-5 business days, however, the rep said I'll likely have it on Tuesday.
OK, so what was your total for both accessories? With tax I still put it at over 200 depending on your taxes. So it comes out to under 20% off....its not bad but not worth it still, and also not worth creating and entire thread over it....
Just my opinion.

Hi ORam,
Please excuse the brevity in my previous post. Had a lot going on at once and wanted to knock out this post or else I wouldn't be able to get to it for awhile.
I paid $187.49 for the Lapdock, $8.99 for the screen protectors. By combining the screen protectors, Sprint knocked off 25% off of the list prices.
I paid a total of $221.23 which includes TAX.
Hope this is helpful to the others because as of earlier today, Motorola's website was still showing that the Lapdock as "Coming Soon."

Greetings, bpcivicsi:
You're welcome! I've always taken advantage of the 25% deal by buying 2 or more accessories. I included the Lapdock and Screenshield item/product numbers for your convenience.
This deal has been going on for a long time and I haven't heard about it ending. It's better than Verizon's offering because to get the same deal with them, you have to buy 3 accessories.
Accessories Qty Price/Each Total
ZCU1234V-Universal Screen Pro 1 8.99 8.99
MEM4762Q-Motorola Lapdock 2.0 1 187.49 187.49
Should be no more than 150 tops

someone asked where is the accessory and the specs in the Sprint page, well here are the steps to see it in case they haven't figured it out already.
if you go to Sprint.com, sign in or not thats up to you. If signed in, then
select Shop, then Accessories,
in the drop down selector choose Motorola/Sprint, click the Go button
Select Mototola Photon,
in the box of items click on the Data & memory image,
scroll down the page to see the lapdock.
edit: to OP, when you say that at Sprint Telesales, i assume you mean at the store or via phone? When i talked to someone in chat yesterday they said I had to go to the store to get the discount.

Hello twospirits,
I've been trying to purchase at the retail store but unfortunately, the reps at the store keep referring to the web-top dock, they don't know anything about the lapdock.
But i've never had a problem getting the 25% discount via phone call w/Telesales or at the store level.
I didn't know you can purchase accessories via online chat.
I just dialed *2 and placed my order.
Hope this helps.

I called up my usual sprint store and I explained to the CSR that if they had any in stock, even gave the item number right off the website to confirm. She says yes we have ten of them. naturally, I got excited that the item would be in the stores. So i rush out at lunch time all the way to Flushing and when i show them the item print out, they look like they are baffles (once again). As usual they mistook the lapdock for the HD dock.
So I told them that I want it but am afraid it may not reach me in time before my trip and he says most likely the item will be here by Wed if ordered today. So I order it. Got the 25% discount and hope to get a call from Sprint saying its in by Wed.
Strange that they had to do a direct store order and not send it to my home, but eh lets see if it comes in on time. Would hate to go on vacation and come back to find out that they gave it to someone else.
Edit: and yeah the price came out to be $220.08 )$196.49 lapdock, $5.65 screen protector, $9.58 Flushing tax and $7.86 NY tax. man taxes are alot here.

As I stated in the other Lapdock post, until I see some specs (Processor, DASD, Memory, ect.) I will not jump on this. I have a laptop that does this via USB cable.
The lapdock is just a dumb terminal with a keyboard, lcd and a battery to charge the phone and dock. Everything else is run by the phone itself onced dock. Its not a true laptop replacement in the sense. Unless you do the Ubuntu hacks shown elsewhere in these forums and even then it won't replace the laptop fully.

No. This is a chopped down instance of Ubuntu running Webtop, not android in what appears to be a virtual machine.
PhonePortal gets you to the base android.

You might consider this a novely item. I consider items like this and (hopefully) the forthcoming Asus PadFone to be the first products that use interchangable CPU cycles that will replace desktops for most users over the next 5-10 years.
For what the vast majority of people do the phones will have more than enough horsepower.
There are going to be power users etc that will require more, but I think these next few years will start to see the change take place to where PCs are no longer king.
i agree, I forgot who said it but this is the way of the future. The smartphone will be the mobile pc controlling all sorts of devices.
Add a touchscreen lcd, make the phone the trackpad, add a wireless mouse and since there isn't any more trackpad, replace it with a storage bin to add a internal ssd drive and viola, goodbye laptop for sure.

Evo View 4G for $319

So this site lists the View for $399, but when you hit Buy Now, the price comes up as $299 plus $20 for shipping (credit to SlickDeals for the tip).
I just paid $255 for a WiFi Flyer. I have no desire to activate this thing on Sprint, so essentially, this would serve as a WiFi Flyer, too. However, it's black (which I like better than the silver), and it's got double the memory. It looks like the View gets hardly any support from devs, though. Is it worth the extra $65 bucks to pick this up?
Mainly, will the leaked Honeycomb updates work on the View?
EDIT: Down to $275 plus shipping now. I couldn't resist.

Yeah, I am, too. One guy said he picked 2 up directly and they were as described and able to be activated on Sprint.
I'm really hoping that the official Honeycomb update comes out soon. If it doesn't, I'll probably resell the View. Not sure I want a tablet without support from the community behind it.

Having had a few HC 3.2 tablets - Acer, Archos - I prefer the speed and stability of HTC's Gingerbread with Sense. If HTC does bring out HC for Flyer/View - all well and good, but not a big deal to me - I love the Flyer the way it is.

Well, really, the reason I want support is because I'd like to see ICS on it at some point.
Plus, the expanded pen capabilities of Honeycomb seem sweet, since that is one of the primary features of this particular tablet.

Went ahead and purchased one from this site since the flyers are literally unavailable locally. Purchased monday and paid for 2 day ups. Just got it 5 minutes ago BNIB. Was sketchy on ordering but since paypal was used I wasn't worried about getting my money back. The site and price (as long it lasts) is legit.

Sweet. Good to know. That's what a couple of other reports have said, too, so I don't really expect to find any issues when I get mine. It was delivered today, so now all that remains is for me to get back into town and open it up.
LOL ouch on the unsupported side of things. Let's just say im waiting since something is dropping really soon that would make a gingerbread kernel a waste of my time. I may compile one but it will be more practice than anything else.

Sounds like you know something I don't. If this thing gets Honeycomb, then I'm definitely keeping it. I can deal with a rooted system on a stock ROM, but I didn't really want to be stuck with Gingerbread for the life of the thing.
In my defense, I didn't see your ROM until after I found this deal. I'll probably try your ROM out, and if you develop something for HC, I'll definitely try that out, too.
199.99 new line activation thru a third party sprint store. Sprint data is good where I'm at and like u said double the memory. All together pen+tab =270.00= me geekin out til my girl leaves me LOL. 20.00/mo for 1gig data...not the best but certainly the lowest option out on the market as far I've seen. I have only used 62 kb and sure its gonna stay there for a while. Plenty of WiFi.

I have only used 62 kb and sure its gonna stay there for a while. Plenty of WiFi.

Not bad. No way I'll be signing a contract with Sprint again (at least for a few years), but if it works for you, then great!

[Q] Will this laptop dock work?

Simple one guys, I know the Razr and the bionic are similar but will this laptop dock work?
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/300809366729?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Thanks for any info guys

I can't really find anything on that model. I looked earlier. They can be found for $49.99 though if you search by the UPC. LOL
When I checked motorola's site to see which dock was used by which phone, the Bionic used a Laptop 100 and the RAZR used a Laptop 500 Pro. So if that tells you anything. There is nothing there about the EW-3005
There isn't a whole bunch out there on it when you google the model number ew-3005 either.
this look like an atrix lapdock i have one these and turned the connectors so they could match the razr (there's a topic about it in this section). So basically it works well with a little mod.
Razr XT910 stock 2.3.4 rom eur
yes, you'll either need to disassemble and flip the connectors or find the little extension cables and then it will work. the cables are really hard to find online though.
Lol. Thanks to googling that keyboard (model ew3005) i now have a card in Google now and keeps showing up in my status bar letting me know that Euro wings flight 3005(EW 3005) from Kiev to Dusseldorf is expected to leave on time today.

btw, i have two Atrix lapdocks, and while the idea is great in theory, and while it is the way of the future, the future isn't here yet, so they sit in a drawer unused. an old NetBook i still have running Linux is far more practical. I expect that apple has this in the works and will show everyone how to do it right, in a year or so, and then everyone will copy them (the next "revolution" in mobile computing ad nauseum). essentially the next MacBook air will have a slot for the iPhone to just slip into and it will "just work" making the lapdock look like the kluge that it is. i recommend you save your money for that, or buy a cheap NetBook.

That is one thing I saw about that dock. It is merely a mirror of the phone. It doesn't run the extended web browser like some other docks.

Thanks for the replay. I was only interested because the cost, but Hearing someone say what I was thinking in the back of my head kind of makes me realize how useless this might be. Play with it for a few days, then it would collect dust.

Well... It depends on how you use the LapDock. For me, it has been amazing since the ICS update bringing along webtop 2.0 which is basically a tablet experience when plugged into the dock. For tasks like browsing on Chrome, chatting, watching YouTube videos, composing a few mails, it really comes in handy. The big screen, the keyboard and the additional battery backup which also charges your phone... what else could you ask for?

Here it is on eBay.
It's on eBay as well, brand new for $253 with free shipping. I can't post the link, but you know how to search on ebay . . . (Just type the words you want into the search bar and hit enter--it's fairly simple.)
This should get development going, no?
probably not. that has been the price for quite a while now..
when showp will manage to crack it and to get a proper kernel - that would get development going..
it seems to be very hard to get something done with this device.

That's a shame. I didn't realize it was so cheap for so long--is the only thing really holding this tablet back the lack of 4.x support? I thought when it came out, the reason it didn't sell was because it so expensive . . . Now that the price is so low, why wouldn't people start picking it up? Also, I don't see anyone selling it this cheap anywhere else, at least brand new.
Plus, the more people that pick one up, the bigger the demand/incentive for 4.x support, which HOPEFULLY translates into more donations for developers.
---------- Post added at 12:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:42 PM ----------
Update: the $253 BIN JetStreams are now gone from eBay. There's another guy selling 10 (1 has already sold) for $280 with free shipping.
it started off as ultra-expensive and got very little demand.
seeing the low demand HTC and at&t neglected the device, not bothering to update it to 4.x android. that pretty much killed it.
the rest of the units are being sold around in relatively low prices, most of them refurbished.
since no developer purchased the device - there's no development going. the device has such tiny community that its considered dead. look at the forum here, practically no movement at all. no developer would get his head into this sick bad. we had to find one, collect money and buy a device for an excellent guy to work on. and as good as he is, its still taking months to overcome HTC's **** job on this one.
but all of that doesn't really matter. once showp1984 will get the kernel to work, i'm guessing we'll be jumping pretty much straight to android 5.x. and you will see some action in the forum.
I hope you're right. The hardware on this thing is so good (except for the "low res" screen), it's a shame it got killed off so quickly. Is there anything we, the non-programming members of the rooting community can do to help? Other than send showp our positive thoughts, and eventually, our money. ?
eventually showp will crack this kernel thing, and then we (non-programing) could try and look for as many ROM developers as we can. this will create a pool of ROMs and maybe revive this device a bit.
Ohhhhhh dilema for me, price dropped to 225 us$. Should I? Or wait for new HTC unknown when. Or get 4cores? What say you guys?
This is not the droid you're looking for.
every other tablet goes for this price...
if u can wait - do so and see if the development worked.
if u cant wait - don't touch this one.
Ouach, you got in. I'm a 7" phone tablet person. Was pondering this jetstream because HTC sense, then the sync is so much better Samsung kies.
Current P1000 damaged a few times concern times up, need a replacement soon. Tried wife's 4.7" but impossible to go back now. Size up is the way. I don't game on android. Just work, comic, reading, little bit video during flight or waiting.

You're right if there was development here, no doubt I won't be itchy to join you guys. I really like this Jetstream.

Updates?
Hey guru,
I can't reply on the development posts yet, but I was wondering--any word from Dennis on development?
Also, I realized DoomLord already released a kernel for the JetStream . . . What is Dennis working on for us now?
Thanks!
dennis is still working. he's creating a proper kernel using the newest linux versions. that is required for the kernel to support JB versions. since there is no other developer or any similar device - he's doing all the work himself - which takes time (also because he's working on other devices).
what doomlord made was far from perfect, and caused alot of issues for some of us. dennis is much more thorough in his work.
So, what I'm seeing here is that the Jetstream might be worth getting. I've been wanting one for a while now, but just haven't done it. I'm actually waiting to get my wife a Sam Note 10.1 before I get a tablet. She really wants one for work and I want the Jetstream, first, because it's HTC's only 10" tablet, and second, just to play with. I've been watching this forum just to see how much hope there is and it sounds promising.
i would wait for the development to finish. i'm not suggesting the kernel won't work - but it doesn't exist yet. wait for it..
I agree with Guru, but if you just need a tablet for basic stuff, like web browsing, email, Netflix, etc., the Jetstream is fine for all of that. Some apps are not compatible because it's still on 3.1, but otherwise it's a solid tablet for a pretty good price right now. If you NEED ICS or JB, then I'd go with something else, or, like Guru suggested, wait.
