[Q] CM7 - I keep hanging up on people! - Motorola Photon 4G

So since I've moved to CM7 I keep hanging up on people when I am trying to hold my phone between my ear and shoulder because my jaw bone hits the end button. I don't recall this happening ever with Blur. Is there a prox sensor that is supposed to disable the phone when it's up against your face? Where is this setting in CM7 or is it just an issue of buttons being in slightly different places w/ CM7 than with stock? If so, is there a phone replacement app that anyone could suggest?

Have you tried turning the screen off (via the power button) before holding it to your face? That was something I desperately wished I could do on my old Moment, because its proximity sensor sucked, but the power button served double duty as the end call button.

Interesting idea. I didn't consider trying that. I also noticed under Call Settings an option "always use proximity sensor" which I enabled and will try. Maybe my phone thinks it's horizontal when I hold it that way.

It is a vertical horizontal thing I believe. Phone needs to be pretty much vertical for the proximity sensor to come on. You can test this in a dark room. Call a number and watch the sensor illuminate. It should look like a red dot near the earpiece. Then move it towards horizontal. You should see it cut off.
Sent from my MoPho. All typos are the phones fault.

ypu may need to do another fresh clean install. completely wipe everything then flash the rom again?

The "always use proximity sensor " setting seems to have fixed it. I must have had my too horizontal.

I was just going to mention that. I found the setting while tooling around in the cm7 settings. Glad you got it fixed.

X10 has a proximity sensor?

Hi,
I'd like to know if X10 has that proximity sensor, that, during calls for example, can detect if your face is near of the phone, turning off the screen and saving some battery. I'm my opinion this is very useful.
Yes it does, although the stated usage is to avoid the face interacting with the touch capability. I don't know if it turns the screen off.
at least for my old Motorola Cliq the sensor is able to turn the screen on and off..
I haven't had any problems talking with the phone against my cheek. Read on a swedish forum about someone getting sms during a call and seemingly had answered the sms with his cheek. Needless to say, it was filled with junk^^

Yeah, I read that too! But I have never had any problems like that myself. Works like a charm!
Yes. It has a proximity sensor. It is near the top to the right of the speaker. It will disable the touch and dim the screen (which will also turn off after a time) when it is against your face.
Does anyone know if the sensitivity of the proximity sensor can be tweaked. Mine only blanks the screen when i put my finger within about 1-2 mm of the screen. Now i know i have big ears, but if i position the phone so that it is hard against my face but the proximity sensor is over the centre of my ear the phone comes on. Anyone else get that?

does the proximity sensor also works in pants or shirt??
for example: i pick up a call using bluetooth and the phone is in my pants, it seems that the phone screen n touch screen is on... if i move my body and accidentaly touch the "end call" button i suddenly hang up... this also happen if i accidentaly hit the speaker key on the screen... i know donut 1.6 doesnt have this problem, but after update to eclair 2.1 the screen doesnt shut if i pick up a call using a bluetooth...

[Q] Swipe to end call

I apologize ahead of time if this has already been posted but I have looked high and low for a solution to this:
During a call, sometimes I move the phone slightly away from the phone occasionally and sometimes it is just far enough to turn the screen back on. I don't really like that end call is simply a button. I was wondering if anyone knows of a swipe or slide to end call function that way just touching the screen won't end/hold a call without a deliberate gesture. I read a lot of other forums and most people say "is your proximity sensor working properly." Short answer: yes because the screen still turns off if the proximity sensor is triggered but sometimes it doesn't. By the way I am running CM7 RC1.4 on my Thunderbolt. I feel like when I still had sense, there was some sort of swipe to end call but I might be imagining things. Any help is appreciated.

You haven't looked high and low.
If you had, you'd know that a simple can of air would fix your problem. Blow the air into the left side of your earpiece.

And yet again someone assumes the sensor isn't working... I was looking for a swipe to end call feature. Not a solution to a misbehaving sensor.

Well I know you don't like to be told how to fix your problem.
But if you fix the sensor, your problem would be fixed.

[Q] anyone else notice!!??

has anyone else noticed that when you answer a phone call the screen turns off ...I hate it ...I have to hit the power button to wake the phone up and end the call .. does anyone have a fix for this ? thanks in advance
thats how all phones have been
is this your first smart phone bro?
if u dont cover the sensor it wont shut off
The screen should only turn off when you put it to your face . Once you pull away the phone the screen should wake . Check your settings you shouldn't have to use the power to wake it .

yea I know right lol ....I looked into the settings and haven't seen any controls for that feature
Yea I noticed the same thing. During a call pulled phone away from my face and screen stayed off. I thought something was wrong but if the call is active screen will come back on, if person hangs up and ur not quick to uncover sensor the screen stays off.
do you guys have screen protectors on your phones??? zaggs perhaps??
If anything is "blocking" your sensor, then it assumes that your face is up to the phone. The phone would then only wake up when the call is ended or the power button is pressed.
You must not have ANYTHING covering the sensor
I would say that this is most likely the case
Mine doesnt do that unless I put the phone up to my ear. Normally I just answer the phone and click it to speaker. When I do that the screen stays on....unless my hand/finger happens to be covering the light sensor.
I have Invisible Shield HD. And there's a cutout for the prox. sensor. Have the same problem. Hopefully HTC will fix it on the next firmware update

I'm not so sure about that. My OG Evo has a standard screen protector that "covers" the sensors, and they still work just fine. Maybe those crappy Zagg orange peels will interfere, but I still don't see that being too likely, as they're not really blocking any light.
I have this issue as well and after reading all over for the past two days it appears some units have this issue and some don't. Further complicating the issue is the fact some have screen protectors and some don't. Some have made cutouts on their screen protector and then it works as it should. Very weird.
As soon as I make a call the phone screen goes black while laying on my desk. When the call is over sometimes I can hit the power button to disconnect the call...sometimes I have to hold the power button down 10 seconds to soft reset the phone or I cannot get back to any screen and the call stays connected. Very weird. I got my phone at BB so I am going to stop back and see if they have had any returns and what their thoughts are.

i got my zagg lastnight and it happened
so i reapplied it, not covering the sensor on the top left
and it fixed the issue

Yeah I wish that was my issue....I don't have a screen protector on my phone and it doesn't work as designed.

I bought a Zagg and had the issue. They left a hole for a sensor but I think that's the light sensor with the proximity sensor being just to the left and covered. It's a small red light that turns on when making a call. So I made the hole bigger by making it a rectangle uncovering the proximity sensor. Now my phone goes on and off like it should when putting it to my ear. Maybe that'll help some of you? Though I have read some people having the issue without screen protectors.

Not sure if this will help or not, but in settings/accessibility settings there is an option to end calls using the power button. Might help.
OK, this is a bit OT so I apologize. But I can't figure it out and really dont feel it warrants a new thread. I hope you dont mind me dropping this in here.
Yesterday, at some point, this icon came into my notification bar and i CANNOT, for the life of me figure out what it is.
It looks kinda like a hearing aid or Bluetooth headset icon. But I use neither. I've looked all thru settings trying to figure it out. Checked thru accessibility . Just stumping me, and making me feel REALLY stupid.
Much thanks to anyone who knows.

I experienced the same issue with the screen turning off as soon as I placed a call. I pulled the Zagg HD off and the issue was resolved. I'm going to best buy today to exchange the Zagg for a new one and I will cut a little notch into it to see if it works.
After the screen goes off you have to press the power button but that little red dot next to the proximity sensor stays on unless you flash a bright light on it. I think regardless the proximity sensor is really sensitive and the Zagg HD just makes it that much more finicky.
Being in a dimly lit area makes it worse too.
**Update**
I went to bestbuy and exchanged my Zagg HD for a new one. I got home notched the cutout for the sensor a little more. Installed it and now I don't have any issues with the screen turning off.

Disable Proximity Sensor? *SOLVED* (so far, so good)

Alright, so the Proximity Sensor in my Rezound is seriously driving me nuts. It is erratic, sometimes keeping the screen on and other times immediately turning the screen off, even when I turn it back on.
I can't enter credit card info, for example, into a phone system because the display keeps shutting off.
I couldn't find any build.prop edits to do the trick. I am on latest CleanROM Dev Edition with the latest RUU. I tried the app "Screen On", as well as the app "AppAutoSettings Beta". Neither of the apps works for me on the Rezound.
Any ideas? I would love the disable the sensor or override it so I can power the display on and off as I see fit during a call. The sensor on my Droid Charge works totally fine.
I'd much rather not get a replacement. I just want to accomplish my goal of disabling bypassing the sensor somehow.
Thanks!
**EDIT**
I found that this method works! So far I haven't had any problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626611
Just add this to your build.prop:
gsm.proximity.enable=false
My phone's irritation factor just dropped substantially. I take no credit for the method. I am highly curious what other devices this would work with.
Your sensor might be bad. I had the same thing happen to mine had to get a replacement. It happens because dust easily gets into the the speaker grill. You can try and blow compressed air in the grill and blow it out but it might be to late you might have to get a replacement.

Thanks for the reply, although I did figure that already. I don't really like the feature anyways and prefer to control it manually.
My pursuit of sensor disabling shall not be in vein!
I tried using this method, but I can't find the name of the proximity sensor driver.

[Q] Sweep2wake for Note?

Hi,
I'm looking to try out a Note. But want to know if there is a feature in some kernel or flashable zip of some kind to achieve this. I searched around but got mixed results so I'm not certain. thank you in advance.
I remember having that option on my Vivid. However, I do believe that is an HTC/Sense option. Someone correct me?

hehe, yeah Vivid is what I have right now but looking to get something bigger screen-wise
I am happy I switched to be honest. Development just died for the vivid.

Whoa, funny to see 2 other people switching from a Vivid to a Note!
This is something I'd been looking for a while as well, never found anything. It was such a nice way to turn on/off my screen, made the button seem ancient and obsolete.

well, not just a note but just something a bit bigger than the vivid, i'm even considering the GS3 as well. but the thing is, I dock my phone onto my car's instrumentation panel and it seems to work well but there's no way i can get to the vivid's power button, and even the samsung lines would be difficult to get to as the power button is on the side; i hope someone can make something like this for the samsung lines.
thanks.

It doesn't really need to be 'swept' to wake. all I want is something that I can touch (or hold) on the front screen or bottoms to wake this thing up. anything? if not, I think what I'll do is go for the international version which, its middle button wakes the note up.
thanks!
you can flash a cm based rom and set device to stay awake while charging. you can also set to wake with volume keys. unless you mount phone with both sides blocked. i personaly set to stay awake and have modified my sunglass holder to hold phone. sits just above rear view mirror and works great even though power button is down and cant be pressed. if you want to stay with touchwiz screen times out at 10 minutes and no option to stay awake. however if you have sqlite editor you can change the database to stay awake but i have had issues with this not wanting to stick after reboot.

so you want to wake/unlock the device without using any hardware buttons?
i use lightlock or proximity screen off/on from the play store. it uses the front sensors to wake/unlock or sleep.
i set lightlock to just 1 sec so all i have to do is put my hand/finger over the front sensor then my note wakes up

Does this mean it wakes up in your pocket?
no. it will only wake if it senses a proximity change
so if you use lightlock and just cover the sensor, nothing will happen. if you cover the sensor for a set period that you choose and then remove your hand, then your device will wake.
you should try it out. it makes using your phone feel futuristic. impresses a lot of people especially when you show somebody with an iphone lol
