Thinking of returning Prime and getting a TF101... - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So I received my Transformer Prime today and am having wifi issues (very poor connection strength). Also, I have a group of very bright pixels on the screen.
I know there is a new Transformer tablet in the works that has significantly better specs...so I'd be best to wait. In the meantime, I found a mint TF101 with docking keyboard for $350. Everything checks out and it seems like a great package for the price. This coupled with ICS arriving in two weeks for the TF101 makes it a reasonable decision to return the defective Prime and get this original TF101 w/keyboard.
Is this a good move? I've never owned the original Transformer and hope that it is plenty fast to play flash content. Anyone care to offer a POV on this decision?
I plan on getting the newer Transformer in Q2 when it's rumored to release.

I have both and the OG TP is pretty damn laggy even with a 1.65 OC.
That + the random reboots and freezes makes in a no go for me.

I did it and am happy with my decision. Wifi is crazy strong and the device is plenty fast.
Wake me up when the new Transformer is released. The Prime isn't ready for prime time IMO.

Transformer of Transformer Prime?

Hi,
I would like to buy a tablet with dockable keyboard. But I can't decide whether to buy Asus Transformer, or Tranformer Prime.
Is Prime worth extra money that I would pay for it? Afterall Prime has USB only on dock and there is issue with GPS/Wifi.
Thanks
Hmmmm, apples or oranges to dessert?
You decide, good luck on your choice!
Cheers
Prime for sure. Most of the newer ones aren't as bad for wifi. I get 27 of 40 mbs throughput 2 stories up in my house which is simalar to my Droid raze. I'm happy. Otherwise wait for a new dockable tablet. Don't get the origanal!

Its a large upgrade for everything but GPS. The screen is an incredible improvement which is so important for a tablet. Not to mention the questionable Tegra 2 processor. Do yourself the favor or wait.

Which one, Asus or Acer?

these two brands right now i think has some of the best android tablets out there right now, if i were to go with asus i would probably get the tf300 or the tf700 infinity, maybe the tf201 prime but the inifnity is the one i want most but is kind of pricey, and if i went with acer it would be the acer a510 or the a700 they both have very good battery life but get very heat, i read somewhere, so which tablet should i get? please dont have to much of a bias towards asus. i want it to be fair, im getting rid of my iconia a500 i want a tegra 3 tablet
Asus for me love it
Asus all the way.

Gigabyte
MSI
Well for me it would come down to the Infinity or the A700. Prime would be out of the question because it is apparently gonna be the same price as the Infinity. But out of the A700 and the TF700t, the TF700T would have to win. Its much nicer looking in my opinion and I have heard the A700 can be a bit laggy running the 1080p screen.
Hope this helps.
Do the Acer tablets have the I/O problem? All the Asus tablets have terrible I/O performance because of software and slow internal memory. That causes lag everywhere when an application saves or reads data from internal flash memory.
samsung
The new Toshiba AT300 (in the U.S. Excite 10) also get good reviews.
I guess it's basically the question, do you want the keyboard dock or not...
If you do, asus is the only real option atm afaik... If not I'd seriously consider acer. (Owning a TF101 and TF201 myself btw).

Thanks demandarin.. do you think there will be a time this year that nexus 7 will have a rear camera? The price of nexus s so tempting... thanks again...

I would go with Samsung and their Note tablet if you can wait they seem to have their products running pretty good (Galaxy S3) with their hardware and software, and they have good development here for their devices. I wish the Samsung Note Tablet with their CPU and hardware was out when I was deciding what to spend my $650 on.
I would wait before purchasing an Asus tablet again and see if they can fix their I/O performance problems if I were you. The Prime, Nexus 7, TF700, yeah they look nice but looks can be very deceiving as we know (Example= Prime).
IF Asus ever gets the I/O problems fixed then the TF700 or the Nexus 7 could be good choices. I wouldn't buy anything from Asus (Tablets) until you see if they can fix their current issues because if they cant fix the Primes performance they wont fix the TF700 of Nexus 7.
As an owner of the Prime I feel we were basically beta testers for the TF700. I refuse to recommend any Asus tablets after being used as a beta tester they got me once but not going to happen again. The bad part is I had to pay $650 to be beta tester!
Tablets are suppose to be a fun enjoyable experience not as frustrating as its been with the prime, we keep hearing they got an update coming out that's going to fix all the issues, but every time we get an update it does not deliver!

I doubt it. the rear camera was cut out to save on costs. Even without rear camera, its a great deal.
There is a slight chance that down the road, once manufacturing costs drop for this device, they "Might" release a revised version with rear cam. I doubt it though. never say never though

Thanks for sharing these thoughts..... i do agree with u.... the only thing that i love about this prime atm is becoz of the ROM i got. So lucky enough i happen to bump the ANDROWOOK ROM....

I would wait to see what Samsung is bringing next. If Samsung's next top tier tab comes with a Exynos 5250 it will be far superior to any Tegra powered device. But for $200 a Nexus 7 would be a great buy even if you end iPhone getting a 10" down the road. I bought a GTab 2 7" and think I like the size better than 10".

Yeah, thats what i thought about sizes. 7 is much easier for me. I can use it at almost places im in. I commute everyday by van, and cant get my prime out from my bag, and when taking pics, ridiculous, it's huge. But anyway, its still is useful inside my office....

Thinking of buying a Transformer Prime

Hi guys , how y'all doing
I have a GALAXY Tab 10.1 , but I'm thinking of buying an ASUS Transformer Prime Tf201 , but I have concerns for the Wi-Fi issues is it solved ? Or not ? Please answer quickly
P.S : I can't buy the tf300 the TF201 is my only choice.
Thank you
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium HD app
Well, most of the wifi problem is because of the metal backplate. Compared to Padfone (which is plastic) it's about half strength on mine TFP.
It is solved on 300 or 700 with plastic backplate/antenna cover.

Oh okay , how do you get
wifi reception is the problem isn't sold yet?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium HD app
WiFi works, just less reception
WiFi works fine for me, I just find that I get lower reception compared to other devices. At home this isn't a problem as I get a good signal through the whole house.
Wifi issue is a manufacturing issue not a design issue. You might get one that works well but unless you are ready to return, return, return (within your in store return window of course. dont wait 6 months and hope to screw a store over) until you get one that is well built dont get a prime.
sorry but how about tf700?
The problem the only transformer available is the tf201 plus I can get it with the keyboard dock for a pretty good price .
If the pad 300 or the pad infinity are available I would bought them .
If there is a special way beside the tearing it I would be appreciative

I have to say I am very disappointed in the prime. And I have two powerful Asus laptops that I love but this is just a slow buggy tablet.

Can be good
I've been pleased with my Prime, and the dock takes it up to a whole different level compared to other tablets. Apparently there's been some variability in manufacturing, though. So if you can buy it and have the option to return, I'd suggest going for it. If it works, in my experience it works well. Not quite a laptop replacement, but very close, say 90%. And at least 300% of the battery life.
I wouldn't be buy, I have mine since January and it's camera doesn't work and another apps.... Try the Galaxy Note 10, is a quad-core with 2gb of RAM

I've had the eand I thought it was a wonderful tablet. I really didn't care for the GPS but wifibwas always weak and the ANR finally got to me. I've since swapped it for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and what a Difference! The note is what a tablet should be and finding it super useful with the pen too. Best of all wifi is good, GPS works, and never an ANR. Runs much much faster. To me its a no question option to go with the Samsung Note after having used both devices.

Forget it. With all the issues owners have, getting a Prime at this point would be stupid. Personally, I wish I waited for the TF700. For now, please...just wait for the other models to become available.
I just got a used prime and love it. GPS need that dongle but other than that..which is no big deal for me I really like it.
I thought about the note since I like most samsung products but the fact that we got a tegra powered Nexus 7 made me want to own a tegra device.
Sent from the Mighty Note International!
$150 max. You will not have warranty left, the camera is likely to break, wifi is weak, gps is non-existant (can't charge with the dongle), cust support lacks,....
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using Tapatalk 2
So when I just want to use the prime inside my or my friends house, don't need gps and definitely want to root and customize it the idea to get one cheap isn't that bad right?
Would like to switch from my netbook to a cheap tab and need the option of a good keyboard to attach.

The TF201 is not a tablet, its an electronic project kit. If that doesn't sound like fun don't buy one.

[Q] Refurbished Prime or TF700

Hi all.. I just sold my Nexus 7 on ebay because I wanted the ability to connect HDMI. Moving up, I won a bid on a Prime on Ebay, but the seller is playing nasty and I haven't received it. That being said, I'm a few days from getting my money back and am wondering if a Prime is the best way to go - after reading about a few of it's issues. Right now I can buy a refurb Prime for $299 locally, or, Sam's has a TF700 for $439. What do you guys & gals think??? Thanks for your help in making the right choice..
Still got garbage memory with lags, just like the prime. Avoid both and get a nexus.

Did you not read that he sold his Nexus?
I bought my Prime off Swappa and I don't have any of the problems that are mentioned about wifi, or lag. I have yet to play with gps as I didn't buy this for navigation. IMO, if you have the money get the Infinity. Latest and greatest and it has the abilities that you want.

Latest and greatest would be the nexus 10. I wouldn't buy another Asus with this cheap memory if my life depended on it. Yes it was the best at the time, but only because everything else sucked so hard. Now we have options.

I also have had more than acceptable WiFi performance and haven't seen all the "problems" others report. Not saying they are wrong - just that it works fine for my needs. I don't care about GPS. I went ahead and got the free Asus dongle but have never even used it. I even stayed on the stock ROM until JB came along and I lost root. Now I'm using Androwook 1.51 which was really easy and is basically the stock ROM Asus should have made. I'd agree the infinity but if you want to save the money, I think about the only thing the extra dollars would get you is the higher res screen - so you decide if its worth it to you.
I would seriously consider the Galaxy Note 10.1. I think it knocks spots of the Prime (I own both) but then I am one of the unlucky ones who got a bad egg. (just about to RMA the Prime for the second time)
Regards,
Les
