My 8.9 LTE with Android Launcher as a car front end - Galaxy Tab 8.9 Themes and Apps

So after using a car front end with my previous galaxy tab 7" 3G, I decided to try something else with my galaxy tab 8.9.
Here's the results. Its a work in progress, mind you.

I hope the link works. I can post some pictures later. I'm using ADW, simple text and multipicture live wallpaper. I took the idea from a poster in the Transformer Prime forum. I'll find a link later to give proper credit.
It works as fast and as fluid as it does in my Transformer Prime (where I'm typing this and which has a similar setup.)

that is REALLY nice.
could you link to the xda thread (for your ui) you referred to so I can try it out?

Good question. It's connected via bluetooth to Blackberry bluetooth adapter. I tried 3 different ones before choosing the RIM made one. The Rim bt adapter has no batteries, so I connected permanently, uses 5v mini usb connector. It turns on automatically when power is applied, no button presses required. Other units either turns themselves off to save battery/protect it or they require a button press to turn them on again.

Using the Note as a Computer

I was looking at the Galaxy Nexus threads and saw this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_--zcmqIyRI and decided I would try it out on the Note. I did this on my Evo when I had one so this isn't a new idea but I kind like it. This isn't an in depth video, it just shows you how it works with what I have working with it. The commands that the Nexus user can use with his keyboard I couldn't get to work with the Note. Not sure if its an ICS thing or what. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laUNz7QJ9Wo&feature=youtu.be
I too have been playing around with this and it is a pretty novel idea. It isn't 100% there yet in terms of being a setup I could use full time, but it does let me travel without my laptop and plug in to a hotel TV.

Is there a way to make the Motorola Lapdock to work with the Note or something similar?
I was hoping to put Ubuntu on my phone and be able to mirror that to the screen.
Any suggestions?

Can you get any of the commands to work from the keyboard like the Nexus? I'm not having much luck there. Might be a gingerbread thing.

I just found an old Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard (it's a small black box that you set on a table, and it projects a full-sized keyboard onto whatever flat surface it's sitting on using a laser) I used to use with my Windows Mobile 2003 PDA and tried to pair it with my Note today. It works flawlessly! This thing hasn't worked with any of my devices since WinMo 5, and even then it usually required a driver to be installed. Not with the Note! Just need to be sure I have the Samsung Keyboard selected (but it doesn't need to be open). I just keep getting more and more excited about this thing (except for the dark splotches on my display and low Quadrant scores).
Ok this is neat for traveling. Anyone know what cable we need to connect to the lcd monitor?

You have to have the MHL to HDMI adapter for it to work. I got mine on Amazon for $22 including shipping and got it within 5 days. Then of course a bluetooth keyboard and mouse..works good. Does your monitor have HDMI?
Edit: If your traveling I'm sure the tv might have an HDMI...unless you stay in a Days Inn as I do..

Display Note on HDTV.

So I plugged my note in to my Samsung plasma tv. I used the mhl adapter that came with my infuse which I used with my infuse and it worked all the time. But it is not working with the note. Am I missing a setting or something? I am rooted with da g OC kernel but I haven't seen anything in that thread about this. So anyone have the same issue or could help me out?

Did not work for me until I plugged in the power into MHL. Then everything worked but the quality on the big 42" screen was not that good.
I have not ordered one yet, but I've seen other Note users say this PNY cable works good. It's the one I intend to order soon.

The screen only supports slightly above 720p so I wouldn't count on it handling 1080 externally.

I think it will output 1080p video files just like Samsung's larger tablets and play them in true HD on a capable TV.
From what I've seen, MHL adapters are a bit of a crapshoot for the Note. I have one made by CableMatters that seems to work well, but sometimes it inexplicably doesn't.
I don't need it for YouTube or anything but I use my phone to dl californication from demonoid. Be nice and easy to just plug the note in and fly but what I've been doing is using es file exp to drop the video file on my network HDD and then stream from there to my ps3. Is there a more efficient way of doing this? (Besides paying for showtime of course...LOL)

I saw somewhere there was a process. I think it was to plug in the hdmi, plug in the power, then plug into device. I saw it worked for the poster but i may have the order off.

I agree, try it using the following steps.. HDMI from TV into MHL Adapter / Power from Wall into MHL / MHL Adapter into phone. if you hear the beep that the phone is charging, does not mean it made a connection with the HDMI side. if you get it connected there will be a 2 / 3 second delay between the beep and you will see something on your TV, also I have USB debugging OFF, seems to work better with MHL.
Edit: With my Adapter, I do not have to reboot the phone with the adapter in for it to work, it will auto detect whenever I hotplug it. I do have to mess with the connector plugging into the phone, seems it can be plugged in / detect power, but not HDMI, (Wiggle it

USB Ethernet...No Browser lags

On ethernet the stock browser has no lags...... I connected a Linksys USB200M v2 adapter....I am gettting full bars on WiFi from my NetGear WNDR4500 router and lags persist.....Hope this helps ASUS with this problem.
How does it compare to desktop browsing loading times
So far so good on the ethernet here.
Most people who have the problem probably wouldn't if they would just go into Settings>Advanced in the browser and change "Enable plug-ins" to On Demand .. this stops the flash windows from auto loading and lagging it out
Nicely implemented by Asus, using the USB Ethernet Adaptor that came with Asus Zenbook.

It hasn't lagged for me or given the wait window since someone recommended I do that on here so no actually don't need to.

It should work, but I would advice against using it because the network adaptor will increase the power drain quite a bit. Further more, the way it is connected to the prime makes it hard for the user to use the tablet properly without stressing the physical connection of the USB kit to the prime.

sorry to get this old thread back up.
I'm currently working on a keyboard backlight mod for my tf201.
I plan on using EL Panels for the light.Problem is, the needed inverter is too big for the case so I need do design an external "dongle" that gets power from the battery and feed high voltage for the EL panels back in. I'm thinking about using some sort of USB connector and a 3D printed case for the electronics.
The panels I ordered should arrive in the next 2 weeks and I'll start working (and documenting).
Use a strip led... then plug it into dock bbattery and add a switch into the dock for on off.... should be enough room...

nah, that's boring (also, I like EL Panels and discouraging people from using random found usb drives
I did it.
I succesfully modified my TF201 keyboard dock with some el panels and added a plug outside to connect the inverter. Power comes from the internal battery.

I'll write a detailed blog post with pictures during the next few days.
There we go

I'm working on that
Problem with EL wire and panels are the inverters needed for the supply voltage and frequency. Since those conain a coil / transformer of sorts, they tend to be big. But there are inverters and parts for smaller panels. So maybe I can build something with that.

I can't go custom I'm on mf3 and don't feel like going through the whole bootstrap thing. For some reason I thought stock ROM had or has fast charge. Correct me if I'm wrong. I do have this car charger from boxwave 3.1amp for iPad and iPhone and it will charge my phone 10% in about 10-15mins. Its wonderful to have.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
On MF3 as well. Safestrap does nothing for the kernel, so USB Fast Charge is a no go for us. You have to keep a stockish kernel designed for the safestrap use. I agree that the lack of charging is an issue as well. One of the causes to that is the screen staying on. There is a solution to that though.
