[Q] Will the S2 become cheaper after the release of the S3? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There are rumors that the S3 will be launched this April. Im interested in getting the S2 now but it costs US$579. Should I wait until April? Do you think that the S2 will get down to US$449 after the S3 is released? Thanks.

It will become cheaper. But how much, nobody knows.

S3 won't be out in April I reckon bit later so you maybe waiting a bit, try and pick one up second hand in good condition.
Prices s/h have fallen quite a bit here in the UK compared to new sim free.

I'd suggest looking at SGS1 pricing, particularly if you can get historical info, since you know when the S2 came out... That should give an idea, but IMO samsung phone tend to hold a high residual value. The SGS1 is still £200 iirc

[Q] Need an Opinion!!

I guess when it comes to technology I look to the internet for people to sway me one way or another....
So I am completely torn. I am going to upgrade within a month and my sights are locked in on the GSII, especially with some black friday deals going on where I will pick one up for $50 .
The problem is, I am also completely enamored with the galaxy note. Im 6' 2", have fairly large hands and I hate using my ipod touch for browsing. I have screwed around with the GSII in store and I really like the size, but I think I might enjoy the larger screen.
If I did this, I would have to sell the GSII and import the Note. Is it worth it, or is the GSII that good and I wont be missing out?
Help...
I think you will be very happy with the i777 GS II. Its got the dev support that outshines any other phone (now any i9100 ROM is portable so that's in our pool too). The phone is smoking fast, buttery smooth, and a behemouth of performance. Its un-boggable, thin, and light.
If you get the i777 you can still sell it to import the note, but I think you'll be happy with it.

well considering you're in the GS2 section, I'm sure almost all opinions will be biased towards the GS2
in any case, I'm 6'1" with fairly large hands as well and I dont have any problems with the GS2 screen. I have never played with the Note so I can't compare but I do like my phone and dont have any problems with it.
I appreciate the feedback!
Direct info based on what I asked... gotta love this forum
+thanks!
I'd say go for the Black Friday deals - worst case you can sell it later to import the Note.
You won't see the Note with a contract subsidy for a LONG time, if ever, so if you're not-so-sure between two devices, go for the one with the contract subsidy that's likely to hold resale value (I777), esp. if you can get it for $50 with a BF deal.
The Note is going to be difficult to even import for a while - I think those that are importing it now are not getting a warranty. Wait for more mainstream sellers like Newegg to get it.
I would say just try this phone out, most likely wont let you down. I pretty sure amazon has some sort of deal where phones are only 1cent right now too. i would be getting on that if I didnt already buy this beast

Best way to purchase international phone to the states advice?

I think I'd prefer the International version instead of the S4 processor. I'm mostly if not always on Wi-Fi so I don't think 4G LTE will matter much to me.
I'm wondering what others have done in the past and am curious about your experience on buying international phones? Did you guys wait a few months for the price to go down? Where did you purchase your international version of your phone? Etc.
Any advice would be great. Thank you.

I have purchased two SGS IIs and my Note USED from US buyers after they had been around a few months. I would not be considered an"early adopter" by any stretch. More of a "wait and see" who is unhappy with their device and wants to sell. I usually buy when the price hits $150 - $200 below retail new.
I don;t worry about warranties because I am going to void it anyway if I purchased new.
Seems this one will have a few more available. LOL I like it and will lilkely get one later this Spring or early Summer. Development will be in full force and the ROMS should stabilize and the major issues will be resolved .
Not until a device gets in the MAS market do the warts show up. Samsung cannot possibly beta test like thousands of early adopters.
My advice would be WAIT....and see how the people who LIKE it now will feel about it after a few months and What developers develop for it. .
Don't be swayed by those who hate the "design" Use your phone from the inside out not the outside in. I ended up with a White Note because it was available and priced right and hated how attention getting it was and skinned it with a dark decal. Made it look less obtrusive.
Personally I think its better to wait a couple of months for the price to go down. Money isn't something we should spend so lightly, especially on a phone that will be as capable as others.
$1 gets you a reply
Also wait for people to start posting problems with their screens like the Note which was a huge headache.

In my experience, eBay is overpriced for international version. Craigslist is cheaper but unlikely you find an international version. I never tried buying from overseas websites.
I'm lucky enough to visit Hong Kong every summer. Probably pick up s3 there. Though the prices are high I might have to wait... (expecting $600 s2 was about that when I went last year) Annoyed it might not work with T-Mobile though.

[SOLVED] When will Samsung stop selling the S II in Australia?

Hello. I don't post here, but I'm thinking of moving on from my Nexus One to a Samsung Galaxy S II. I would like to when Samsung will stop manufacturing and selling the S II in Australia since the S III came out a few days ago.
Thanks!

lol what?
Optus, Vodafone and Telstra has sold them for ages. Telstra even brought out their own specific 4G version.
Have you even looked?
And my crystal ball says ......

Of course they won't tell you (nor will Samsung tell you if you contact them directly). That's sensitive info for a company selling stuff. Given you can still get quite a few lower end Galaxy devices from many of the phone retailers (TeleChoice in particular), I think you'll find the SGS2 will be available for quite a while yet (end of year at least I would have thought; probably longer).
Why don't you just buy from eBay instead? That's where I buy mine from and never had any probs so far.
Well I think it will be a bit until the S III comes out so I will manage to buy the S II.

At least 6 months before Samsung stops delivering S2
Before stopping production of S2 Samsung will want to check the sales figures of the S3 on two quarters so you're safe to wait a couple of months.
But even if the S3 sells very well, the S2 is catering for a lower price bracket and still directly competing with iPhone 4 and 4s so they Samsung would want to keep it until their product segmentation drastically changes.
Crystal ball:
- if S3 sales are disappointing and iPhone 5 storms the market with real innovations then Samsung will want to compete on price (S2 at below 400US$ and S3 below 550US$) which will eventually come true in the ramp up to their newer flagship smartphone
- if Samsung limits S2 production to make room for S3 there might be a shortage and thus a price bump. Seems it's the better option here (as observed in Europe): we experienced inflation by 3-5% in the S2 price in the first months of 2012. If Amazon Europe is relevant, inflation is still not reversed. IMHO it could be that people waited for the S3 to be announced while Samsung slowed S2 shipments and they were disappointed with S3 (too large, nothing valuably new) and decided S2 would suit them ok.
So check the prices on eBay every week. In Europe you can still get it at about 500 AUD, so I guess it's a good target price.
Okay thanks!

Dilemma of Buying Either Galaxy S2 or S3 (Don't own either yet)

Hey guys, I've been planning on upgrading my phone which is literally like 6 years old some lg slider type of phone for texting.
I was planning on getting the S2 (international since I'm in Canada) even after knowing the release of S3. One reason was to save money $0 for S2 and 150 for S3 on a 3 year contract. But the main reason was the hardware, I know the cpu is pretty on par with the international exynos quad core but the gpu seems to fall short right? Not to mention they took out the Wolfson sound chip which I was really anticipated on since I rather just use my phone as a multimedia player than buying for example a cowon mp3 player.
The thing thats really holding me back is I guess the gpu. I own an ipod touch and never in the world did I think would be playing games on such a small device but nevertheless, it kills time pretty quickly and keeps me from being bored throughout the day or at work.
I just wanted to know if anyone who has the American variant of the S3, are the current games graphically looking and fluidity decent enough even though it uses a Adreno 225? Is it worth getting the S3 with the Adreno 225 than the S2 with mali400? Just curious if the Adreno 225 performs better than the S2's mali400.
If not, I'll probably just stick to getting the S2 and maybe wait to import the international or just wait it out for the next "S4" or the next "big" thing aside from apple's iphone .
Thanks guys!
S2 is year old phone, go in S3 forum and ask what games and stuff works...
Try to get an S2 off-contract it's gonna save you some cash because you won't be stuck in a 50$ contract and you can change phone anytime. I got mine brand new for 450$ in January you can find some for 300$ now. I tried the S3 and it's now big of an upgrade. It's up to you if you

I always, wondered what kind of plan people would get with a bought outright phone? Like in canada the texting plans are 20-30 with no caller id/voice msg. And to get that is like another 15 dollars, and if you want data atleast another $10 for 100mb or so. In the end won't it be the same price as the normal $50 ish plans????

Best time to sell galaxy s3

Hey guys,
Just wondering when do you guys think is the best time to sell your s3 before upgrading to Galaxy S4.
So that you don't lose too much value of your handset before the next model is announced

honestly this phone is pretty decent. i guess if you are the like of those who are always on latest then you can sell it when the S4 is announced. if you sell it before that no one may buy coz of high value. but when the next comes the price will drop and some people will get interested about it. for me as i said its pretty decent and i think i won't sell it for another 5 yrs before i change phone again.
Only thing this phone is lacking, imho is the 2gb ram.
I reckon the best time will be when you are ready to buy the S4
Seriously...what kind of a question is that?
To late price has dropped now if you look around for new phone .
