"Hi everyone!
Even though the holidays have passed, we're really stoked to give you guys one more present -- a new experimental release! Under the wrapping you'll find a bunch of new toys, including a brand new Camera Upload feature. Here are the release notes:
• Automatically uploads photos and videos in the background using Wi-Fi or data plan
• 500MB of free space on first photo uploaded automatically
• Upload files of any size (no more 180 MB limit!)
• Support for resuming file uploads when there are network issues
• Various performance improvements & bug fixes
During this beta period, we are also offering additional free space to test automatic uploading of photos and videos. For every 500MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you'll receive another 500MB space bonus, up to 5GB total (including the initial 500MB space).
[Update: this space is not separate from 5GB given for uploading on our desktop clients. Uploading from either desktop clients or Android app will count towards the same 5GB free space.]

"Hello Forum users!
Another day another build. We're trying to snipe all the most common bugs. Keep plugging in those cameras!
During this beta period, we are also offering additional free space to test automatic uploading of photos and videos. For every 500MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you'll receive another 500MB space bonus, up to 4.5GB total. [Update: To clarify, you can get up to 5GB of free space with this feature, if you count the initial 500MB space for the first photo import].
1.3.12
500MB of free space on first photo import
Cleanup UI in Windows non admin installation.
Fix infinite restart of Dropbox when database was corrupted.
Fix import error on iPhone with lots and lots of photos.
Better Handling of out of quota issues on first photo import.
Other small fixes
1.3 Features
Importing of photos from cameras, phones, and SD cards.
Batch upload/download of files.
Windows: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox 1.3.12.exe
Mac OS X: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox 1.3.12.dmg
Linux x86_64: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-1.3.12.tar.gz
Linux x86: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86-1.3.12.tar.gz
Notes:
Clients 1.3.5 and earlier had an auto-update bug. Please install this version so that your client will stay up to date!
The photo import feature is not available on Mac 10.4 and Linux.
For Android devices, it's best to use "Connect as Disk Drive". HTC Sync will not work.
To import from iPhone, make sure to unlock your phone and enter your passcode before importing, otherwise it will claim to find no photos.
If importing from your iPhone on Mac gives an import error, try hard resetting it--hold down the power and the home button for 5 seconds. This will reboot the phone; it shouldn't change your settings or delete data.
On Windows, this feature relies on Autoplay. Please enable Autoplay to use this feature if you have disabled it.
On XP and Vista, it relies on the Windows Image Acquisition Service. If this service is not started, please start the service and reinstall Dropbox to use this feature. On WIndows Server, you may have to install the Desktop Experience feature.
On Windows 7, newer devices that rely on Device Stage (in the Control Panel) will not show Dropbox as an import option until you select "Change Program" for the default.
The Galaxy Nexus takes a lot of time to connect on OS X because it likes to pretend that every image on the device is a photograph. We now estimate how long it's going to take and show you that in the progress bar but it's usually in the order of minutes. We're working to see if this can be improved.
As usual, we strongly recommend making a backup of your Dropbox before upgrading to this build as we'll need a few weeks to be certain of its stability. We will rapidly release new builds as necessary to snipe the most common issues as they arise."

Follow these and you'll be fine and save yourself whole lot of uploadin!

Fastest way (tip i saw on g+) is to use beta desktop client provided in first post with those blank videos (you can put any avi or mp4 video on usb as well as long as it is in the dcim/camera foler and has not been uploaded to dropbox before and note 'renaming does not work') and use autorun dropbox import function.
must connect in mass storage mode or just plug microsd card ( usb reader and external hard drive does work as long as you keep proper folder structure dcim/camera). allow import to complete then in dropbox client 'pause syncing'. go to dropbox 'camera uploads' folder and delete files. again in dropbox client 'resume syncing' and thats it.
you just maxed 5GB without wasting all that time and bandwith!
note:you must have at least 4.5GB in pics and videos plus that one initial picture
another note: your maximum in pics and videos you want to import can not be greater than total dropbox ammount available to you or it will fail to sync properly. so best keep it around 5 just in case.

Got my extra 5GB already. Swhueet. My only worry is if Dropbox catch on; which they will. What will they do about it? Could they track who has been given large amounts of space, but not made any real difference in space in their online accounts? Could easily take the space back off us.

Can you post an article?
As far as I know the only 12 months credits are for space given to htc/ics devices 3/48 GB respectively.

I just uploaded a season of star trek to my dropbox and maxed out the free 5gb. Hopefully it is permanent but I don't really use much of it yet so if it was temporary I wouldn't lose anything.
I had to put the videos in a folder called DCIM on my SD card to get it to work on my PC, otherwise it would not auto detect which is what is required to get the free space..

Is this boost in space permanent?

Doesn't seem to mention anything about the extra space expiring...although you never know.

Yes it's supposed to be permanent for those that get it during beta. Not sure if it will be extended for those that try to get it once the app is released in the market.

Yup, just used this on my .edu dropbox and now im up to ~23.8gb. Pretty sweet. If you want an easy way to get these 5gigs, use the below link
http://www.avitricks.info/2012/02/get-free-dropbox-storage.html
it has a rar file you can download with a 4.5gb image inside. Nice fast way to get the space.
Also, if you want a fast way to max out your referral bonus, use the google ad words method. Lifehacker has a few nice tutorials on how to do it.

If I already have 6.25gb, will I end up with 11.25gb?

That's because that file is larger than what you currently have. You need to upload smaller files. Like 10 minute 1080p videos or some avi files you might have lying around.

Did you read full first post? No need to upload and everything done in less than 10 minutes tops.
It's not gonna expire or they'll have public relations backlash for not saying that when they promised this space.

I just did the Google Adwords method last night until this morning. I have been meaning to do it since I read about it month ago, but this whole thing prompted me to go for it. In 12 hours I spent $10 and got over 30 signups and maxed out my allotted free "referral" space - I only needed 27. So on a Free account, I now have just over 15gb of storage.

The best online storage solution for your ROM's!

Dear chefs,
Everybody knows how slow some online share-site's are. It's frustrating for you, that every time you just finished your new ROM, you have to wait so long
The users are frustrated by the same site's because of all the restrictions: wait 1 or 2 minutes, it's to busy right now, slow connection, you reached your max. data quota for today, and all the terrible add's & pop-ups!
But, there is a solution! It is an application for your computer (win & mac) that will put a special folder on your desktop. It is a special folder because everything that you put in that folder, automatically synchronizes with your ON-LINE storage space! If You have more than 1 machine like me, you are glad with the next feature: synchronizing between desktops. I've installed the application on my Win7 desktop, and on my MacBook. So stop mailing yourself, end throw away that USB stick that's always lost
But, why you MUST use it, is the Public Folder in your synchronizing folder! When you have finished your new ROM, just put it in your folder (zip/rar is not necessary!) en right-click > provide public link!
This link, you post on XDA and every user can download your new ROM in peace! To test it, here is a link from the Mikenificent 13.3 ROM, I put in my public folder> LINK
See a short youtube video with all the possibilities >VIDEO
So, have I convinced all Chef's to use dropbox for your ROMS?
Use this LINK to get started whit dropbox. Why that link? It's a referral link, and when you use that we both get hooked up whit 250MB extra, besides the 2GB standard storage!
Thank you, and keep cooking!

Maybe if you didnt post your own refferal link at the bottom of that post, you would have been more.. believable.
Dropbox is nice for small files. However the speed, sucks sometimes. In order to make files available publically you have to put them in the Public folder, where they will get erased 30 days later. So there's some drawbacks, but for a cook that only cooks for one or two devices and plans on updating the ROM at least once a month, it's not a bad choice

If you are going to sign up for a new account with drop box, please do so through a referral link someone else posts. This will allow others to build larger drive space without paying for it. Those attaching referral links to this post, please remove your link once you have maxed out your free referral account expansion at 8GB.
My referral link: http://db.tt/gkcqDGa
(i just need a few more people and I will be maxed out.)
(in order for someone to get credit for your referral, you have to setup a new account, download the program to a new pc and register it. This is FREE for the first 2GB and up to an additional 8GB with referrals (10GB total). You get 250mb for each referral.)
Drop box creates a folder on your pc that automatically synchronizes with a virtual drive on Dropbox cloud server. Then this server file makes itself accessible through any location you log into the dropbox website or any mobile device that you have the app installed on. This is a very easy way to keep files ready on a cloud server or sideload apps. You can also store roms, backups from titanium backup and much more on this "virtual thumbdrive" type server. Another feature is sharing your account with friends. This allows your shared files to be accessed by anyone you specify. You can also make it to where they can now add or remove files from the shared folder. I personally use a folder to share family photos with my extended family. This way they can easily log in and download the images or they will automatically sync with their pc.
Thanks Albert, great idea, and great videos!

I can't speak for the NT, as mine is still on its way, but on the NC, if I hold the selection I get the option to "open" the .apk. That then initiates the installer.
You do have the option to download, though, if you want to.

Dropbox helps you sync your most important files to any computer/smartphone/tablet in the world. It truly is phenomenal. Dropbox can be used in combination with Titanium Backup to backup all of your apps to the cloud. You can access dropbox from your web browser. You can share folders with others (I personally find this the most helpful, I use it for classes constantly)

2 qns please - Dropbox and Apps

So then:
New to the Prime, like it so far, not in love with it, but it's pretty good.
2 qns please:
a) I have a desire HD and like the apps you can put on the screen under ICS, but don't know how to do it on this one, e.g. a twitter feed etc. Is it possible to do? It is a right click and hold down on my phone!
b) I have dropbox and was hoping there was some way of syncing files from my computer to a part of my SD card - just work files, so I can leave my work laptop and move onto this. Is there a sensible solution to this?
Am hoping both of these are solvable, please put me out of my misery!
Thanks
A) Ice Cream Sandwich changed the way you add widgets to your homescreens. Instead of long-pressing on the home screen, they're in their own section in the app list. Bring up the app list and you'll see a section for widgets at the top that you can scroll through.
Are you asking if dropbox works? Yes it does.
B) put your files in dropbox.... done works perfect
if you favorite something on your TFP's dropbox app, it has it always downloaded. Not sure how often or if at all it downloads the latest version, but that's waht the features says it does. Also, if you won't have internet, tap an item once to download it to your dropbox cache and after that it'll be saved on your prime so you wont need internet to access those specific files from your device.
ps i'm rocking the same TFP/DHD combo and i'm loving it

I have dropbox working (the app), but am wondering if there's a "deeper" setting more akin to the PC where I can sync and monitor folders rather than be able to passively log in and select which file I want to download/view?
I work in education and as such have about 5 gig of work files I could do with on my computer, mainly lesson plans, resources etc. The original idea is that I sync my (non asus transformer) laptop with my computer at home so any files I have automatically are the latest version; e.g. a lesson plan I update during every lesson, so when I am home I can carry on working on it, as it has downloaded the latest version automatically.
Then in my head I would extend this to include my transformer prime, where it stores the latest version of a lot of files and updates with dropbox so I can use my prime as my primary laptop for work use...
I hope that clarifies it a little?

As nhshah said, if you favorite something, it will stay synced to the most recent updated version. The only thing I can not find an answer for is if it automatically updates the file to your computer also.
I get what you are looking for, basically she wants dropbox to run as if her TFP was a desktop/laptop computer where it automatically syncs as the file is updated. Unfortunately, dropbox has limited the due to saving data and battery.
600 MB additional free storage
Hi all
Just found a smart way to increase your Dropbox account with 600 MB:
1 Sign into your existing Dropbox account (or create a new account)
2 Goto https://www.dropbox.com/free
3 Follow instructions ... and voila 600 MB additional free storage
Old news.. you can pretty much do this stuff from within Dropbox web interface to increase storage space. It not new offers.
Also as much as I love DB some of those items are pretty invasive as you give them certain control if your account to post stuff as they want on your behalf... pass

I personally use dropbox, mainly because it was the first one I tried and was free, have never heard of or used sugarsync. I stand by the motto of don't fix what isn't broken and having 7gb on my dropbox I don't plan on going anywhere soon.

Dropbox for me, I only have 5GB, but that's pretty much all I need.
That's good, but I can't get referrals for the love of it.
Dropbox, but not because it's better than SugarSync. I have a ton of friends that use dropbox and with the recent 5 gigs they gave away I'm at 17 gigs of space.
That being said, I've heard great things about SugarSync so if you don't plan on sharing anything/folders with friends (Dropbox is, for the most part, the universal standard) I might give that a try too.

It may sound like something you absolutely hate doing, but spam the hell out of your friends and family. It won't cause them any harm and you'll GREATLY appreciate the extra storage space. It took me a long time to come to terms with it, but boy was it a great decision. I sent out an email explaining that I was helping friends coordinate a programming project and that by them signing up it helped us out a lot with school. Worked like a charm (though it was all true. lol).
What? no one signed up for Asus Web Storage when they got their prime?
I still use dropbox, but signed up for a Asus account thru my Prime and they give you 8 GB of storage instead of the 2 GB that anyone else gets.
Why not just use Tonido and use your own computer and as much space as you want? By using Tonido I don't have to worry about space anymore.
I use Dropbox and Dropsync to keep important docs local and in sync. That way I don't rely on wifi... Works great for me. Go check out their blog to see if they still have the recent beta going where each 500MB in photos and video you sync automatically gives an equal amount of storage up to 5GB.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
DB for sure. Google the 2.0.9 apk and it now has unlimited uploaded & there is a way yo get 500gb free instant & then 4.5gb free for uploading during the beta.
Plus the new version can sync photos & bids instantly when taken.
Ya I'm doing it, but I only received the initial 500mb then after upload automatically I got nothing. What the 2.09 APk I don't understand.
With 2.0.9 every 500mb you upload with their new upload feature will give you 500mb up to 5gb. Many of us all got the 5gb as I just made 500mb vids & uploaded them.
Yes I just did it too. It seems the google Adwords is a great way to do this too huh?
I've used Dropbox for a while and will continue to - I have several shared folders set up that are very useful. I did sign up for the 8gb from Asus and the 50gb promotion from Box. Those along with misc cloud storage that came with my laptop and printer (he'll, not to mention Google Docs and Music)...... I'm pretty well set I use them for different things and so easy I've not used at all yet.
just use vmware and set some virtual machines up, u'll get 16gb in no time(had an .edu email so it gave me double), so far i got 23.88gb from dropbox.
wouldve been more if i didnt miss that 1gb scavenger hunt thing
Sugarsync for me
I use Sugarsync and it works well. The main reason I picked it over Dropbox was the ability to select multiple separate directories to sync (vs just one Dropbox directory). You also can choose which directories to sync between which PCs (not all dirs have to be synced between all PCs). Very handy. However, Sugarsync has two large holes (that are supposed to be filled this year) - you can't sync a directory on a USB drive, and you have to sync with the cloud (vs getting data directly from a local PC).
Agree on Dropbox, tried them both and its better on android.
Dropsync is very nice for tablets/phones too. got on my prime and sgs2 for convenient sync with no hassles

NAS Server
You should check out a NAS Server. Set up your own cloud and stream your content wherever you are!
Synology DS212j is a pretty neat little machine!
I have used SugarSync for about 18 months. I am liking how they are agressively updating it and appear to be trying to gain traction in a very competitive market by improving the product. It works well for me on my TFP 201. I have the 100 gig storage plan.
Dropbox
Currently using Dropbox and loving it. I have the 50Gb account that is up to 54.5 with referrals, beta etc. This may change though when Google deploys Drive.
I've used both, and Sugarsync wins just for the ability to sync multiple independent folders. I know there are some workarounds in DB, but I don't want workarounds. I like the ability to just click on a folder and share it immediately, and still keep it where I want it. It's pretty easy to get above the given 5Gb too, with a little legwork. I got up to 6.5Gb in 15 minutes by jumping through their hoops. Also, the interface is pretty easy to work with. I had formerly used Windows Live Mesh, which was quick to sync, and can work peer to peer (still use it on my LAN because it's so quick, and no file limits via P2P). Unfortunately there are few mobile clients for Mesh. So Sugarsync wins for me.

Dropbox or box.com account?

Which is better? Pros and cons on both?
Honestly the only different I see is I have 50 gigs on box and 2.5 on dropbox

Well for starters, Dropbox has a lower free storage space but you can upload files of any size to it. Box on the other hand has a 100MB upload limit per file.
The main reason I don't use Box, though I have 50 GB (and the 100 MB limit is decent enough for stuff like photos and music) is because there's no desktop client for the computer. It's all on phones and tablets only and the web interface. Dropbox has an awesome desktop client and it's just too easy to copy a file into the Dropbox folder on my computer and see it appear on my phone. With Box I'd have to upload it via the web interface :\
Those are the two main differences between the two, and quite big ones at that. Other stuff isn't that big a deal, but sharing files from Dropbox with their new direct link feature is too convenient.
In terms of pure functionality and convenience, Dropbox is the best cloud storage service right now. Apart from these, I use Windows Live Skydrive and Google Drive too, both of which have desktop clients similar to Dropbox. In order of usefulness (for me), I'd say Dropbox>Windows Live SkyDrive>Google Drive>Box.
You can get upto 6 GB of space in your Dropbox for free (not counting the 500 MB you get everytime someone uses your referral link to sign up). This only works in Windows - create a folder on a pen drive with a bunch of photos and images of around 3 GB size, then put it in your computer and wait for Autoplay to pop-up, choose 'Import photos to Dropbox' and let it upload all the photos. You'll get 3GB extra free space for using the camera upload feature (it increases space in steps of 500 MB so you need to wait till the entire 3GB uploads).
Also go to the 'Get free space!' link on top of the Dropbox website to get ~500 MB more space.
Hope this helped.
