Nope..lol don't think so, if you trying to modify a file then you obviously have a need for root

[Q] Partial Root Access?

Is there any way to root a device in a way that the user only has write permissions on a few files, while all other files in the system folder would still be protected? Specifically, I ONLY want to access build.prop. Alternatively, is there a way to change the contents of a system file without rooting at all? Kind of like flashing a zip but without booting into recovery?
Nope. Just temp root instead of perma root if thats the case.

IS701R modify Stock Firmware ??

Hi Experts ,
I've got the stock firmware .ius file for bsnl penta is701r tablet ..
do any one out there wanna help me by editing it (or mabe creating a custom rom outta it) and making it a pre-rooted firmware so i can install it on my tab to gain root privileges..
I m really a kinda newbie so pls try n cooperate me..
if its possible ill give u the link for ius and yes the ius is to be installed using IUW1.2
I had the same tab and tried doing the same method to root without any success.
They have disabled USB debugging and mass storage mode. Even if we enable usb debugging from apps like launcher pro the adb from PC isn't recognizing the device.
And it seems they have patched the exploits in z4root.apk , gingerbreak.apk , and other apks so as to prevent root from phone (not sure though).
I unpacked the ius file to get img files. But the system.img and other img files are not yaffs2 images. They may be older yaffs images or different ones. I have tried all current yaffs utilities but unable to unpack system image. The project on ius packing / unpacking is here. https://github.com/Ithamar/iusutils . Even i cant compile the iuspack.c which needs additional libraries. So, to progress in this method, we need to unpack system.img and repack it. Also repack ius .

It's impossible without root.
It's impossible without root.
Modify the folder /system/media requires root beacuse in stock is read-only.
You should mount the system as rw and try. Not sure if that needs root too.

Is root absolutely necessery for flashing ports?

Hi everybody. I learned so much from this forum (and also from others) in one year and tried to share my knowledge to those who try to learn like me.
Now i would like to share one of my experiences. i dont know if someone wrote about this, yet i could not find anywhere in this forum. When we share a "port" for example "s4 keyboard for s3", we say that we need root access in order to use this port. But when i think, if this apk files replace themselves with the original ones and rom thinks that they are the originals, why should we need root access? Of course we need recovery to flash them but do we absolutely need root? And i flashed 3 separate ports (keyboard, launcher and callrecord) into a fresh installed 4.3 MK6 stock rom without root and they worked... and still do... (scripts have to delete odex files automatically)
Installing a recovery will increase the binary counter and since your binary is up why not rooting right? But those who dont want to root their phone but still want to use the visuality, can install a recovery and flash the ports without rooting... Tested and proven...
You need root access for applications/ports that will need to be installed in system directories (that only the superuser can alter). Some directories/partitions are read-only, so you have to mount the them as writable too. It all depends on the application.

If editing apps from rom then yes. But if you are flashing them through recovery you dont need root access for read and write permitions. Script also does that itself. Thats what im talking about

[Q] Manual rooting Android?

I do hope this is posted in correct area.
I have scoured the internet to find out how to manually root KitKat.
I dont want to depend on a one click tool. As far as I understand, you push via ADB superuser, busybox and su files into data/local/tmp but issue seems to be getting those files into system folderm I use linux and tried mounting my galaxy 3 just to practice and nautilus as root user in linux doesnt show my device. How do you guys root manually?
I also read I can use dd command in linux to clone the data on phone and extract boot.img to make insecure then recompile the image and flash it but is this method old?
Advice?
