The best H/W revision ? - Nokia Lumia 800

Hey,
I like the lumia 800 a lot and I've been dying to get it...but I must admit Im a little disappointed about the loose buttons or loose parts inside...battery and etc
Can you guys share the H/W revision of your lumia if you don't have any problems with it?
Thank you very much

112.1402.2.3
Bought from T-Mobile Germany.
Seems to be fine, so far.

112.1402.2.3 (which I suspect is the only revision at the moment).
Came direct from Nokia in Helsinki; very well built. No problems with screen or buttons, doesn't rattle, feels solid.

The one thing no one compalints (Even the staunchest apple fanboys) is the build quality of the lumia.
Unless you get a defective piece by bad luck there is nothing to worry about the build quality or materials used in this phone

Thank you all for replying, i got the phone 112.1402.2.3
the camera button is still loose but I love this phone so much i got used to it
no other problems other than that...battery life is good
next big thing = jailbreak
cheers

112.1402.2.4
T-Mobile Czech Republic
Battery life is good,no problems with screen or buttons..etc

yes, 2.4 is latest. Have you tested sound through 3.5mm jack? Is there good bass output?
Also which color it is? Cyan?

Yes,Cyan..sound very good.

I think last number defines color - 4 for Cyan, 3 for Black

1402.2.4
Black here
I do not have test the head sets
But speaker is just ok nothing special
The omnia7 was better

Ok, then my theory failed. It seems that there are really two different version of hardware.
Can you please check quality of sound through earphones, especially on low frequency - bass.

GPS Receiver

Yes another one of these threads sorry, but I was wondering what the general opinion on the holux gpslim 236, 240 and the holux M-1000 as I can not decide which of the three I should get, if it impacts the decision I live in Australia.
They are all new breed of BT GPS and should have no problem for any PPC. Performance wise there are not much difference.
240 is the smallest but has not exernal antenna port. That is probably the idfference you have to consider and whether you require external antenna or you want small size.
Otherwise just get any one which is the easiest, meaning one that can be sent to your country at lowest cost.
ive had a 236 over a year or so now , no issues to report
Ive experience with all three and i can say with out any hesitation
DONT BUY THE 236!
OK. its a great little GPS reciever and when it came out it was the best on the market, (physical power button is a major plus for me) My housemate, My father and I all bought one, and out of those 3 we have had all three fail within 2 years.
This is a common problem and having re-searched it i have found a solution. it appears to be a bad build quality between the PCB layers leading to bluetooth part of the reciever not getting power to startup.
the fix is either re-solder, put in the freezer for 20 mins or pack the plastic case with cardboard. However knowing these problems it's not a good unit to get.
Secondly, the 236 does have an external antenna port however, AFAIK alot of the cheap ebay anntenna dont fit it as the 236 has a small plasic lip JUST above the anenna port.
Aditonaly on the antenna front. I have the 236 (warentee replacment) hardwired on an ignision (GPS battery removed) in my glove box and even in city i find i get pretty awsome reception and it is rarly much of an issue. quick finds from COLD start etc are within 30 seconds or so even when not removed from the glovebox.
SO!... (im draggin on arn't I.. sorry)
the question comes down to the M1000 (which i got for my dad when his 2nd GPS broke just out of warrenty and before i found the BT fix) or the 240.
IMHO i think the decision comes down to what you want it for. If you want the reciever for a lot of WALKING in citys then get the 240, its the size of a pack of gum and so can be put in a pocket and be that little bit smaller.
However for ANYTHING else get the M1000 - OK its new so its a somwhat un-prooven as far as reliability goes but it has one major advantage over the 240 for me and that is the removable battery. the batteries are cheap as anything to get of ebay as AFAIK they were used in several nokia models, so you can keep a spare battery charged up if you're not near power. But more importantly if after time you batter in the 240 starts to not hold power you're stuffed with an expensive fix or having to buy a new reciever, with the M1000 it's a simple ebay option to replace the battery for a new one.
The M1000 is almost exactly the same size as the 236, although it does claim to be more accurate i think its all just a bit of a conn. the 236 is extreamly good and had i not have so many die in the first 18 months id have no isues recomending it.
so unless size is EXTREAMLY important get the M1000 it seems as far as i've used my dads new one to be excerlent, and although its almost 2x the size of the 240 your talking about a unit that is either small or Very small so its not too much of an issue.
I use my 236 for tomtom, and moutain biking, and hill walking with digital ordiance survey maps, i've never considder the size to be an issue, and i walk with a spare battery for it as a kind of emergency backup so im happy.
I hear the M-1000 uses a different chipset? is that anything to worry about? Size or battery life doesn't matter to me as I'll probably keep it charging in the car the whole time. What is the start up time of the M-1000 for a cold start?
Thanks for the responses guys

Motorola s9 problems

Hi
Just got my motorola s9, which are supposed to be good. The soundquality is great, although it is alot choppy when putting the phone in pocket. Does anyone else have this problem??
some more thoughts:
It seems to work ok when inside my house, but as soon as I leave the house it starts skipping. .......

I have same issue. But my other phone connects very well without the skips.
I am yet to use it on TC with the new radio. I hear it has a better connectivity.

ok, then perhaps I should try it out with my hermes that is laying around here somewhere?!
and then wait for the new radio....and hope for the best before selling the headset.
ok, I have now tested first with the upgraded radio, no change .
second I tried it with my hermes and WOW, the soundquality is equal to polaris (maybe a little bit worse but not much, in either case, i can easely use the headset in my pocket outside and through walls, no problem getting about 20meters from the device and so on....
so it is definetly something fishy here...
I am going to change my "usual" bluetooth regsettings for setting the audio like I have on the hermes and see how that goes...
i'll report here
edit:
Ok, I have now changed the bitpool value from 64 decimal (0x00000040) to 46 (0x0000002E) and that seems to cure the problem, I will have to try more later since I need to work a little as well, but initial testing is that it is working better, I got some skips (2 in 1 song when outside, none inside). Probably will go down to 30 (0x0000001E) on both BitPool and MaxSupportedBitPool. I know that the quality will be reduced, but it sound pretty good at 46 soo...well see.
edit2: disappointing news, it is a little better but still skips ALOT.
Anyone knows what the BtA2dpSnd -> Prefix = WAV does?
i am going to lower the settings down to 25 and add priority256 = dword 60
Edit 3:
when lowered the settings to 25, it actually does work...nor perfect and certainly not great quality as to the sound, but I can have the device in the pocket of my jacket.
I will probably have to wait until a new radio rom that might fix this?
I didn't have major skipping with mine. Mainly in certain spots where I know I would get interference of some sort that it cuts in and out.
I haven't tried it outdoors yet with Bepe's Rom or with the new *Test* radio (which I haven't installed) and once I do I'll report back.

Positives about the SGS2 ?

Blimey
Wifi weak

sound quality issues
battery life problems
Anyone wanting to find out if this phone is worth buying would turn away very fast.
When I owned my SGS2, my wifi was fine, GPS was spot on and fast, never noticed a yellow tint, cant work out where the wake up lag was, ok it overheated playing pocket legends but nothing else, sound was pretty good, battery life seemed to improve over time.
Anymore positive comments or links to threads, that might make a new comer welcome.

Wifi - Yes its weaker compared to the Iphone4 or any of the Netbooks I have at home, In a spot here the netbook can still hold and maintain the signal the SGS2 doesnt even see the router to be in range anymore.
GPS issues - I dont use the GPS that much so its a non-issue for me.
Display yellow tint - Biggest downside of this product, its supposed to feature a great screen (not perfect but great) lots of other quality control related issues on the screen.
wake up lag - I think all andriod phones have this wake up lag, but someone correct me on this. The S1 also had this after the 2.2 update.
overheating playing 3D games - I've been with 3 units and my first 2 phones barely heated up when playing games, this 3rd phone runs significantly warmer.
sound quality issues - S2 uses a lower end sound chip so this must be the main culprit.
battery life problems - totally subjective to the usage and expectations, Im getting great battery life my self, nothing extra ordinary.
Dont forget about the pink spot on the camera and video stutter/frame drop issues too
Nothing subjective about weak battery - it's WEAK....
Only + point i can think about is a decent camera. But on mine it broke 2 weeks after purchase.
Korean trash.

My experience:
Wifi weak = Good enough for my use
GPS issues = nope
Display yellow tint = nope
wake up lag = You got to be kidding me
overheating playing 3D games = True it gets pretty warm
sound quality issues = Good enough for my use
battery life problems = Battery life is good
I have 4 friends with the same phone, and they are not experiencing these issues.
Positives:
- It is fast. It laughs at your iPhone 4 and Sensation.
- It has a big beautiful screen but it is still thin and lightweight
- Enough RAM (1 GB)
- Touchwiz 4 is super smooth and it is in my opinion better than Sense
- Very smooth web browser
- Good camera
Overall:
Best phone on the market at the moment.
Well for me it is mainly the Web Browser (Stock only), I don't even turn my PC on for normal browsing anymore. Full Flash support is awesome. Hardware acceleration is great too.
Besides, Video Playback capacity is great too, it can even play 1080P MKV's, and that with subtitles, nice. We shouldn't forget the awesome 4.27" S-AMOLED Plus screen.
Having a Noise Cancellation Mic is very nice too, especially when you are in noisy areas.
What else? Can't remember atm, will edit post if I do remember.
Regards.

overheating playing 3D games = True it gets pretty warm >> dont play games
sound quality issues = Good enough for my use >> Absolutely no complaints but i understand that those that like bangy bangy find bass low .
battery life problems = Battery life is good >>> Sorted good battery life .

The yellow tint was just a manufacturing problem, and if you bought a device now (new) it wouldn't have it.

Ok if its not subjective to usage then anyone who cant reach 6days of battery life has a defective phone since I can get 6days with well over 40% of battery left. This is ofcourse taken from what you said.
See how others would comment about the battery life or screen, they have different feedbacks according to what their usage is.
Ex.
Someone who just uses the phone for call/sms will have insanely awesome battery life but someone who has wifi/bt/gps/HSPDA enabled 24/7 might with regular push and updates and uses this phone as an alternative to a netbook will only get between 6-10hrs of battery life.
Same goes for the people who dont see the yellow tint as an issue because they bought the phone not for its screen but for its phone features or just plainly accept the defects thus causing a low quality product.
Everything is almost subjective to the user.

Thats the problem, a lot of us assume that the 6 million figure released by sites is 100% accurate and even if it is we dont really know how much the return rates are but if they are indeed pretty low how come a few folks ( regardless of how few this ppl are ) have exchanged the phone more than twice..
Also a lot of people have been getting misinformation from forums claiming these issues to be "normal", with enough returns samsung will surely rectify some of it.
Think about it if samsung will silently introduce a new revised hardware with a significantly higher screen quality control ( including the total elimination of the yellow tinting, darker spots, white blotches and vertical banding ) and a fixed camera w/o frame drops and pink spots, a better GPS antenna configuration.. for sure those who claimed that they dont see the issue suddenly will see the issue if they know about revised hardware. Just saying but its gonna be a fact when this happens, not asking for perfection just asking for better quality =)
Then again the issues we see (aside from quality and manufacturing issues) are pretty much subjective to the user experience.
The positive thing about this phone is that its blazing fast! No other phone can compare but it also has a lot of issues and down sides especially the AOS bug when you have wifi and IM apps running, compared it to a 2.1 / 2.2 or 2.3.5 nexus reference device the N1 and NS outlasts the battery on this phone, heck even the iphone4 outlasts it when the AOS bug kicks in.

+1.
Battery life is proportional to use. Wi-Fi+sync = battery drain. Have been using Juice Defender Ultimate for a few days and it help to solve this as it turns Wi-Fi and sync on only then the screen is on and when it is scheduled to do so (for 15 seconds every 15 minutes in my case) in order to receive e-mails, updates, etc.
About the rest, well, no issues at all! Just perfect.

Now I'm about to post the negatives and positives about this phone. I love this phone despite its negatives though. I just hate how Android isn't really optimized atm (little to no hardware acceleration and no proper multi-core utilization). I bought mine 3 weeks back.
TL;DR
The yellow tint is there (in addition to vertical lines), wi-fi is weak, wake up lag is there sometimes (about 1 sec), it gets warm (I hope this has no effect on the screen, I'd hate it if the heat ruins the screen), battery life seems to get better overtime.
These points might sound weird because I copy pasted the review I wrote to my friends.
Negatives:
1. Browser would sometimes get stuck on white blank page when switching windows (not apps, windows as in tabs), especially heavier webpages. One workaround is to switch orientations (portrait to landscape, then back to portrait).
2. This is true to all Android browsers. You will have problems with websites with scrollable frames. And pop-ups.
3. This is also true to all Android phones. Multitouch and copy paste implementations are not consistent throughout the phone. In Browser, you will find that the copy paste works wonderfully well. In some apps, copy paste isn't even implemented. This is the only area in which I think the S2 loses to iPhone.
4. Eventhough it's light, build quality does not win that of HTC. I dropped it once (more like threw instead of dropped), it has a little damage, nothing visible unless you shine direct light to it, mainly because it's black.
5. The charger you get out of the box is merely 700mAH instead of 1000mAH like those bundled by HTC. It takes roughly 3 hours to charge from 0 to 100% (if you use it while charging it can take you a whole lot longer). This brings us to next point.
6. The phone gets warm, warmer than what would feel comfortable when you use it extensively, especially when charging. This is probably why the charger supplied is less powerful, to avoid overheating. This is one reason I don't have casing.
7. The phone automatically turns down your brightness to 0% when your battery reaches 10%. This apparently has no workaround, unless you flash another ROM.
8. I've heard people saying that, eventhough this comes with Gorilla Glass, the Oleophobic coating makes it prone to scratches. I personally run around without a screen protector, and still no scratches after 2 weeks.
9. The wi-fi chip might be the low-power one. I'm getting the same amount of bars as my HTC Wildfire.
10. I'm not sure if the physical keys will play well with Ice Cream Sandwich. I heard ICS will be more like Honeycomb, meaning the main buttons are placed on-screen.
Positives:
1. 4.3" of Super Amoled Plus goodness. I can never look at my desktop and laptop monitors the same way anymore. Anything with black background looks absolutely stunning.
2. It's so powerful that I experience almost zero lag. Lags can still be felt though when you're running unoptimized apps. Whatsapp is one app in which you can feel the stutters.
3. Browsing is ultra smooth, there simply is no lag, even when browsing image-heavy sites. This is mainly because Hardware Acceleration is enabled in the Browser. And I think Samsung adopted iOS' method, you will see checkerboards sometimes.
4. Again, performance. I run Live wallpaper, listen to music, read manga, altogether without experiencing a single stutter, and I hardly ever use the Task Manager.
5. Apps are getting better. Almost all respectable companies are releasing iOS version of the app together with Android version. I downloaded a few addictive games and they're on par with the iOS version.
6. The Oleophobic coating feels really good on the fingers. Touchscreen also seems to register even the slightest of touch.
7. It is very very light, iPhone4 felt like a brick when holding them together.
8. It comes pre-installed with multiple codecs. I've loaded my phone with a few movies and they all play without a problem. 720p movies are played without any lag.
9. The hardware is pretty much future-proof. I believe it can run anything thrown at it for the next 2 years.
10. Touchwiz 4.0 is pretty good, I can't believe I actually like it.

I can't see any yellow tint or any other issue with my display. I'm currently on XXKG3 stock ROM, but I have used KE1 and KE7 stock before and I haven't noticed any issue either.

The screen temperature varies from device to device. Some have had a yellow tint but it doesn't appear to be the majority. There's a production/design issue that shows as a darkening on the left 1/4 of the display. The majority can't see it unless they take pics of their phones in dark rooms at 10% brightness. Screens with a yellow bias seem to exaggerate it.

And what phone's better? If you look at the Sensation, O2X/G2X, and Atrix forums there's a list of comparable issues. Many people that have issues have an expectation of perfection that's not realistic for a mass-produced electronic device. If you're one of them, and are seeking perfection, don't buy a dual-core phone. The vast majority on this forum are thrilled with their purchase and would recommend the phone to a friend.

Yeah, I agree. The Samsung browser definitely could offer easily a decent desktop view. Messing with user agent doesn't provide a long term fix. For this reason, I have Opera mobile on my phone, which is great for that purpose. Nevertheless, I only use Opera when I want a desktop view, 98% of the time I stick with the Samsung browser, which for mobile view is good in my opinion.

Which H/W revision do you have?

It appears there are already multiple H/W revisions available of the Lumia 800. I had an issue with a loose/noisy camera button. The new phone appears to be a newer H/W revision, but I'm not sure. Which revision do you guys have?

Indeed. I am going to test the battery on this one.
Thing is, I got the replacement from vodafone due to battery issues, and the numbers on the phone seemed to be the same batch, so pointless really.
Would be good to see if someone else with a different hardware revision had good battery life, or same with terrible etc.

Same version for me too. no problem with the buttons although if you lift the side with the buttons up and drop the phone back on to a desk you do hear a bit of a rattle but not too big an issue for me.
As above, battery is OK but could be better. 3G manually getting switched off until they issue a wifi priority fix.

*) battery drain is comparable with HD2 running WM6.5
Here 112.1402.2.3, Lumia branded 3 Italy.
Battery isnt so bad...but....sux!
112.1402.2.3 here from telekom.de
camera button has different stroke than other buttons but I feel this might be connected to button-autofocus.
Regarding the battery - I am very cautious with it, never leave it connected to charger overnight - I try to charge up to 99% and disconnect.
3 full charges done so far and I am able to live with it throughout the day (with TOGFLE installed and disconnected bluetooth).
I noticed though, that compared to my previous Omnia7 battery is much worse...
112.1402.2.3 here.
(o2.de, simlock free, from China (box sticker))
Loose/noisy camera button as well + cracking under the left side of the screen (under soft pressing).
Ah, I guess it's not H/W revision related then (although I am almost certain my original one was an earlier revision, should've noted it down). Well, all in all, I'm happy with my replacement, added bonus is that this one is completely unbranded. Originally the shop I bought it from stated it would only have Vodafone branded (but simlock free) sets from Nokia until January. To my surprise when I exchanged the one with the loose camera buttons, I got an unbranded one in return.
Looks like battery life is better on this one too.

[Q] Verizon LG G3 common issues?

I'm in love with the LG G3, it's specs are AWESOME... but... In the past I had the Verizon LG G2 and it was great but it's pretty know for it's screen to die... So, I have a great offer for a Verizon LG G3 but I would like to know if you would recommend it and if you could tell some common issues with this version.
THANKS!

AFAIK The main issues are with call quality on some Verizon G3's. I myself have experienced it and is rather annoying having to hold my phone a certain way for the other person to be able to make out what Im saying. My hope is that it is fixed with a future update.
Second, is the AUX in issue. The G3 uses a new way for the phone to discern whether you have a pair of headphones plugged in or an AUX cord. It is very picky about the type of AUX cords it uses and NO fixes have come other than a few workarounds. Running a custom rom did help a lot but i still run into problems playing music in my car every once in a while...
Lastly, is GPS not locking. This isn't one that a lot of people have but I cannot get a lock on my phone for the life of me running either stock or custom ROM.
Also, some people swear that the G3 screen sharpening is an issue. I personally cannot tell the difference but it does bother some people...
You can search for all these issues and find threads on them here on xda (minus the GPS)
Other than that, there aren't really any other issues that plague the G3. It's one of only a few flagship phones in which you can unlock the bootloader and have custom rom's and recovery on that lets you take advantage of the specs without having to use LG's skin but even stock it is an awesome phone with good battery life and very snappy. The camera is top notch and the screen is beautiful when you watch 1440p/1080p videos that take advantage of the resolution.... and not to mention is one sexy ass phone!
I personally recommend it and hope my issues are fixed in time with updates and/or the wonderful developers working it all out.
It seems to be rare, but some of us also have a yellow tint at the bottom of our screens when the phone gets hot. I've read speculation that it is glue that didn't fully cure. I don't see it all the time. It just happens when the phone gets really warm. When it cools, it goes back to normal. I've talked to a few other people who have it too. I've never exchanged it because I don't always see it.
No issues.
Fixed the thermal throttling and everything is good.

How did you do that
My only complaint about the phone is the fact that the speaker is on the back rather than on the front. It had to be on the back to give the phone it's small footprint (small bezels), but having speakers on the front certainly improves sound quality. It bothers me when I'm watching a movie, but I can live with it. I love everything else about the phone.
I know some people have the AUX issue. However I believe it can be avoided/minimized by plugging the phone into a device that is already powered up. Personally I have never seen it, but I don't plug my phone into a great number of devices (my wife's car radio sometimes is all).
