What are the first 3 things you did after you rooted your Transformer Prime? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I just rooted my prime a couple days ago, but I haven't done too much with anything needing root just yet. Aside from Titanium Back-Up, what have you guys done with root on your TFP? Is there any bloatware I should be looking to freeze or get rid of? I imagine once the bootloader unlock comes there will be more to do with our beloved Primes. Thanks for the help guys!

1. FOR SURE.. get Voodoo Rootkeeper and backup your root.. right now!
2. AdAway to block ****ty app ads
3. Buy Root Explorer.. THE file manager to own, period
4. do my Ad Hoc wifi fix IF having tether matters to you

Use titanium backup to freeze (not uninstall!!!) all the bloatware apps.

Freeze Bloat w/ TiBackup
Add hosts file with Root Explorer
install V6 supercharger script with Script Manager
Freeze app start processes with Autostarts
Browse File structure w/ Root Explorer
Add Ad Hoc support with Root Explorer
Check out .db (data base files) w/ SQLite Editor

Great thread for noobs like me..
As i really dont know why i would want to root my Prime..
I have unlocked the boot loader on my htc sensation but thats for obvious reasons.
Going to watch this closely to see what you guys do once rooted.
Thanks

All right, I have all ready installed Voodoo to keep my root after the 2/8/12 update. Worked like a charm. I just installed AdAway, and have not gotten a chance to use it yet, but hopefully that works well too. I use Connectify on my computer to open up a wifi connection as I'm in a college dorm and routers aren't allowed, so I'm not too worried about the wifi ad-hoc fix. If I didn't have connectify, I would've been begging for a fix somehow.
@Swiftk: What programs did you freeze/remove with Titanium? I'd assume I should freeze most all of it since I don't use it too much. Also, can you delve into the "Freeze app autostarts"? Which apps?
I'm also curious about the V6 Supercharger, what exactly does the script do for my Prime, and is it really necessary?

Just checked it out, you mean the pay/pro version? 1 person reported it busted in ICS, this true? You find this a worthy purchase then huh?

also, you said ad a host file in root explorer, what does that mean?

Not even necessary. No one really cares that you returned it.
** But definitely root and preserve your root with OTA Rootkeeper.

First thing was using the rootkeeper. I then maxed the processor at 1.6 with atp tweak. Followed by allowing ad hoc connections. You might want to try installing Linux Ubuntu. Its not very productive but its nice to test out and show off. You might need it for something as well.

1.rootkeeper- obvious reasons
2.titanium backup- complete batch backup of system apps
3.adaway- banish apps back to the nether
Why are we freezing bloat instead of uninstalling? Must have missed that thread.

Can someone provide a link to where I can get Window 7 drivers for the Prime and a link to a video on how to root the Prime,I am getting my Prime from BB today. I assume it best to update to ICS first before doing Rooting.
Thanks

If you delete it you can no longer get updates to work from Asus. It is easier just to freeze it in my opinion.

You didn't ICS yet, my guess is? Apparently, new version can also "disable" and "enable", which if my guess is correctly, what rooted users could have done since Gingerbread.
Until Unlock, personally, I'm staying clear from rooting. I want to completely retheme my Prime (bootscreen, ringtone, etc)...

+1 for ad-free...BUT with the release of the paid versions of Angry Birds it's not as important as it was to me, but still great for being able to put the Flash add-on to "always on" and not have to worry about Flash ads in the browser.

Very true, although I kinda hate killing ads in free apps. I prefer paid versions so we can be ad free and support the developer at the same time.. Angry Birds was an exception because I always get distracted by the darn ads being in the same area as the target.

[Q] Can I freeze or delete Entitilement from system file using Titanium back up?

I been doing some research on my own and I want to find out if I can use Titanium backup to remove the System file "Entitlement"? Is this is the same file use for Entitlement Check for Wi-Fi Tethering? On my Samsung i897 I just need to delete the similar file to enable Wi-Fi tethering to bypass validation with AT&T. I wonder if this will work the same way on Atrix. Anyone done it? Does this work? I don't want to brick my phone on something I not familiar with yet. Thanks.
prolly will break the vending.apk doing that but freeze it first and see what breaks if it does unfreeze it :screwy:

Privacy protection for your DX2!

What is it? Okay, well kenjesse put it best with this description : " Pdroid is an app that lets you modify permissions app by app with out breaking them. You also have the option of "spoofing" the permissions by sending randomly generate data rather than your phones actual sim, meid, phone #, etc.
As the app does not need to run constantly in the back ground it has virtually no impact on battery.
To check out the original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19570074
On the next page of this thread I have posted the patch zip necessary to install the pdroid app on CM7 for DX2 only!!! I will make patch zips for other roms upon request but it can be done easily by following kenjesse's instructions below. After flashing the zip just download and install pdroid from the play store ......viola! Thanks for stopping by and happy flashing!
Looks like a pretty cool program. I've read other post that reference making changes like this, always wondered how. Wonder if this is one way, I'd assume there are other ways too.

Just got done installing this and it seems to be working great. I'm running CM7 with no special tweaks other than Moon Shadows wifi fix, following instructions from op here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056
this is what I did:
1. DL Pdroid Patcher zip to PC (Win7 in my case)
2. Extract Pdroid Patcher exe file and run
3. Browse to update-cm-7.2.0.-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip (cm7 ROM) and select.
4. Click "Patch" (program takes about 2 minutes to create required patch zip file as well as restore file if you choose to uninstall Pdroid later)
5. copy the 2 created zip files (PDroid-v1.31-update-cm-7.2.0-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip & PDroid-RESTORE-update-cm-7.2.0-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip) to your external SD Card
6. Boot in our BSR BACKUP...BACKUP DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!!
7. Flash the PDroid zip file
8. I did not wipe anything as it is not stated to do so in the OP install instruction... I did flash cm7 reRecovery before I rebooted just to be safe.
9. Reboot your phone, go to market and install Pdroid.
I tested by removing several permissions for my Fox News app which doing thru cm7 causes the app to break, using PDroid the app still worked. Not sure how to test beyond that.
I did notice that the reboot stayed on the cm7 animation for a while before the phone came back up as if a dalvik wipe had been done.
Hope this helps and if you break it it's your fault not mine and remember...BACKUP

He probably should update the op title. Pdroid is an app that lets you modify permissions app by app with out breaking them. You also have the option of "spoofing" the permissions by sending randomly generate data rather than your phones actual sim, meid, phone #, etc.
As the app dose not need to run constantly in the back ground it has virtually no impact on battery.

Beautifully put. Hey, I would update the op title but it's not letting me from the mobile app. I will later when I'm on my laptop.
Hey, how did you spoof the permissions? Don't see that option within the settings. I just see symbols without descriptions (gear, bar graph, check, ect...)?
Just to add, I don't know if it's just in my head or not but I feel like my phone is moving way faster After changing all the permissions that I did.
........and last, I'm going to post the patch zip file for cm7 dx2 when I get home so all anyone needs to do is flash it and download pdroid from the market (Google play (stupid name)....whatever). Okay all done.

Settings options are:
Check = allow
Graph = random spoof
Gear= set the spoof value
Slashed Circle= block
And then there is a check box in the top right corner to enable notifications for just that app.

Okay, here are the zips. Just flash the first of the 2 zips in CM7 recovery and then install the Pdroid app. The second zip is just to restore. I'm not responsible if you break your phone...blah blah blah.....THIS IS ONLY FOR CM7DX2 (but if anyone wants I will make zips for any rom on dx2, just ask.)!

Thanks for the help Kenjesse!
So please help me clarify what setting should I set the apps to? Also do I need to do them one at a time or can I do it by batch?
Okay, what I have been doing is blocking ALL permissions for any given app and then trying to run it. I then look for any error messages and go back and enable only those specific permissions to allow the app to function properly. You'll get a system once you use it a bit. .....and unfortunately there is no batch function. It is a very cool app though once you play with it and definitely enable the function where you can see it blocking and granting permissions. It's pretty cool!
........and someone please tell me how to change the title of this post please

Flashing The update zip makes the required changes for the app Pdroid that you get from the market to run properly with the cm7 ROM. IT WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU ARE ON CM7. If you later uninstall Pdroid you flash the restore zip to remove the changes made by the update zip.
I believe it is done this way so the app can work without root permission and therefore doesn't have to run in the background....I could be wrong though and as with any mod you should go to the linked thread above and research it for yourself.

Anyone know how to stop my apps from not opening?

More often than not I have to go into app manager and manually force close apps because they are stuck on a black screen and just freeze that way. Also, busybody pro won't install when I try to install it in the normal fashion but when I download busybody installer app it installs super fast. There a reason for that?

So you are running both Supersu and Superuser? When I tried Supersu out, I ran both and still had issues, then I removed Superuser (not an easy process) and still had issues. I just created a script that will allow me to kill the offending process. Then I can go in and restart the app and it works just fine. Usually I only have to do that after a reboot.

Yes I have both on my phone? Is that bad? I trust you moon shadow. I usually have to go to manage apps and forceclose app and then it usually opens with no problems. Should I ditch the supersu? This glitch is the only thing I dislike about CM7, but I think I figured out a pretty good solution to the issue. Under settings, then applications, then development there is a box for "long press back key to kill app". If the app is not opening, simply holding in the back key for a second kills it.
The only apps I have this issue with is netflix and boat browser. My root apps all work fine.

When did you try this, because I tried that yesterday and it didn't work for me. I'm on Paranoid ROM.

I did it a few days ago but I'm not on Paranoid, I'm on flapps ics.
Its a simple fix. Change the name of superuser in system/app to SU or whatever you want and you'll have no problem

ok that explains it, it work for me when I was on Flapps ICS. So it may just be with jelly bean CM10 ROM that trick doesn't work on.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to take the root checker out of the time warner cable TV app. Admittedly I haven't researched as much as I could. I will continue to. Just thought I would get some advice if there is any to be had. I would like to use this on my note and note 10.1.

Have you tried OTA Rootkeeper? I don't know if it works for the app you're talking about, but it worked for the Flixster app for me.

It allows you to save a back-up of your root, and to temporarily disable it.
If you are on Jelly Bean you need to modify your build.prop. The setting you need to modify is the:
"ro.build.tags=test-keys"
to look like
"ro.build.tags="
along with renaming the superuser.apk. So the steps to get it working in JB are:
1. Uninstall the TWCTV App
2. modify the build.prop by removing the above setting
3. rename the Superuser.apk located in /system/app using ES File Explorer
4. Reboot your phone/tablet
5. Re-install the TWC TV App from the Play store and you will be good to go.
I've used this method several times works for me every time I flash a new rom.
Open root explorer
Navigate to /system/apps
Mount r/w
Delete superuser.apk
Go to settings
Scroll to applications
Find TWC tv
Clear data
Open TWC tv
Log in
Click live tv, to make sure it worked
Reboot phone
Open play store
Download superuser or superSU (your Preference)
Done.
Twc tv only checks for superuser once, so after you get the app set up, You can reinstall superuser and you will be good to go.
