[Q] Screen not working at all - white with horizontal lines across it - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I bought a Galaxy S2 in late August and have been using it since then. It is also using Siyah Kernel with Galnet MIUI Rom.
This morning I pulled the phone out of my pocket and the screen was completely white, with horizontal lines across it. I have attached a picture to described what I am saying (sorry for the quality, it is behind a white table but the light from the screen makes it so the camera only picks up the screen).
What's interesting is that everything else is working. If someone calls me, the ringer will go off, and I can guess the gesture to accept the call and have a conversation, so it just seems to be the screen.
I have tried a few things already, but any time the screen seems to have power its just white. You never see the initial Samsung Galaxy boot screen, and I tried going into recovery mode and the download mode and both the times I can't do anything.
Is there a way to flash without having any visual control, and even if there is, do you guys think its worth a shot? I bought this phone from someone online and not sure if I can still get the Samsung international warranty.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Holy crap. That's a hardware defect. Go to download mode, flash original firmware, use jig, send back to Samsung. But it seems that it has been dropped in the top right corner, didn't it?

I dropped it the night before on carpet, but everything was fine. I used it the whole night, and in fact I even used it the morning of. Not sure what happened but I pulled out my phone because it was noticeably warm, probably from the screen being on.
I bought this phone online, and it originally belonged to a Samsung Asia employee who no longer works there. I checked the box for any warranty information, and the page containing warranty information seems to have the international warranty code page ripped out.
Anyone have any idea of the cost of getting samsung to fix this? I tried calling Samsung Canada and they gave me a number for the company that deals with their phones, but I haven't had any luck reaching them. I also tried looking for screens online but they are so expensive.

if its not a hardware defect then install via odin some other firmware...
if that not going to help then return it to samsung and claim your warranty - dont mention that you droped it on the carpet thou... ;]]

It has to be a hardware defect if even the boot logo doesn't show right? (the initial galaxy s2 screen)

[Q] Gradient across screen

Hey guys,
So, today I got my phone back from Samsung (yay!) after repairs.
First issue, it came back with a different bezel, so I phoned up thinking "OMG WTF" and was told "Nah, we just did that because we had no others".
That's fine, boot my phone up, and then the menu lights didn't work.
Me: "WTF!!"
Reset the phone, display lights worked. Yay :3
Open "Gmail", oh, it looks like there is a gradient going from dark to light over the screen. Whhaaatt.
I turn the brightness up, it is less visible. Full brightness and it's barely noticeable.
I restart my phone, nope, it's still present. I notice it in the Android Market too and can just see it when the phone is idle.
I've tweeted Samsung, but I'm impatient when it comes to my phone, it's been difficult going with my trusty P1i for a week!
Thanks for all your help guys,
Jake,
P.S.
Going to try formatting again...
Well, another reset didn't do anything.
Sending it to Vodafone's repair centre now, to see what they can do...
I'll keep this thread updated!

[Q] Help Please With My Screen :( i9100

Hi,
I dropped my Galaxy S2 Yesterday (have no idea if this relates to it) But i plugged it into the charger this morning and everything was blue & some of the screen had turned black and some icons had burnt into the screen it looked like.
After taking it with me because it was still usable, Its not completely black except for maybe the faintest part of blue.
Im running Lite'ning rom, The newest one im pretty sure.
Just wondering if this is a virus? Or the screen is dead. I just cant see how it could suddenly die when it was flat and not turned on.
Phones not under warranty by the way. So maybe you could give me some options?
Thanks heaps guys
Probably the problem is hardware related due to the fall, but you could back all your data and try to do a factory reset to see if it fixes or not. If it doesn't fix maybe you should check your screen hardware.
Thanks for the reply,
I just reflashed Litening with Odin 1.85 and still nothing, I get the vibrations, touch lights, sound ect, But only occasionally a tiny little strip of blue along the top.
How would i check my screen hardware? Because i pulled apart my galaxy s after it died and accidently cracked the screen & Glass
How would i do a factory reset by the way? Since i cant see anything
I'd imagine it's dead. I'd take it to your local store and ask for an estimate on how much it would cost to fix it. If you can't see anything, then the screen is either broken or it got disconnected (or maybe some of the ribbons did at least).
Yeah, I just dont really wanna take the phone apart unless i know its likley to fix it.
When i first got it, I noticed it had black splotches on the screen in very dim light on a white background. Nd im guessing id have to almost buy a whole front screen assembly to replace the front screen D:.
Would i be better just to sell the phone how it is? Or repair it?

[Q] screen replacement

I hard bricked my note a month ago so I decided to buy one off of Craigslist that was working and all I had to do was replace the screen. I had an AT&T phone so I made sure I purchased the same model. I took the broken screen out of the phone and replaced it. No broken cables everthing secure but when I turn on the phone the screen is crazydark! I checked the cables and I dont see anything wrong. Help please what went awry?!
Any pictures? How dark?
Ill post them n a sec, very dark can barely see the bottom apps on screen. I know the screen worked because it was from my other galaxy note.
I took phone apart and put back together I did notice that when I hit the back button the very top of the screen is visible. Now however I cant see anything on the screen.

Click to collapse
the screen is turned up to the max!
Where you able to solve it ? My Galaxy Note N7000 looks like it has quite a similar problem and I'm quite sure, that it's not caused by defect hardware.
In the case that your still looking after a solution, i have posted my problem here.

[Q] I9300 Screen issues

Hi
Cutting a long story short, is there a screen calibration app/menu option for the S3? I cracked my screen the other week, and I have had the screen replaced (not by samsung). Ive noticed now that the screen intermittenly sometimes sticks, becomes non responsive and/or the image "vibrates" when I long press on an app to move it. OR when I try to hang up a call, 9/10 times the press doesnt "register"
Before I go and moan at the shop I got it repaired at, is there any app or any way of calibrating the screen ?
I should mention that the phone is not running a stock rom. It wasnt before the screen was replaced and everything ran flawlessly, even with the crack Now I'm no expert but I would suggest they've either fitted a dodgy screen / there's a loose connection or it needs calibration.
If anyone's wondering it is on Temasek's CM11 unofficial build. Although I had it on CM 11 for a while and the problem persisted.
I suspect it is a hardware issue with the replacement screen but I thought I'd ask.
Cheers
Andrew
Flash a full stock rom to test but it sounds like you've a hardware fault.
*#0*#
This is screen test function of sammy based roms. if you want you can try your screen with this
You cant calibrate capacitive screens

If I remeber correctly this behavior happens when the screen is repaired without that special adhesive layer which originally glues everything together.
Back on stock rom, tried the calibration/diagnostic screen.... no dice, according to that it works ok lol.
It looks like I'm going back to the shop I got the repair done, to try and get them to fix it (again!) Bet they will try and charge me more money tbh I am almost at the point of living with it BUT I had two phone calls I could not answer today because the screen wasn't working properly, and that will not do
Edit :- found the accessibility options which allows me to answer/end calls using the hardware buttons. Still a bit gash but better than nothing.
Will see what the shop says, less urgent now, at least I have a way of answering the damn thing lol.

Touchscreen not working

Hello all,
First of all I hope I am writing in the correct section... Otherwise please let me know.
Secondly: Something really strange is happening to my Galaxy S2.
Last year, the glass broke on the street and I changed it manually by buying one from eBay and following video instrctions. This year the touch and AMOLED part of the screen cracked (I don't even know how). This time I decided to buy a Galaxy S4, as I didn't want to "invest" anymore on the 2-year old smartphone, but I kept it. Later this year I decided to fix the S2 one again, and so I ordered a replacement screen (which costed a whopping $105!!!) and changed it. To my surprise, although I checked all the motherboard connections more than twice, the phone turns on, the Welcome Screen (configuration for first time usage screen) appears, but... The screen is unresponsive and I also can't change the volume nor turn the screen off by pressing the lock/power button.
If someone knows something about this problem or how to fix it, I would appreciate a comment with information regarding it to be able to understand what is happening.
Thanks in advance!
B.S.: I don't know if this information has anything to do with the problem, but the first screen I bought wasn't original, as it didn't have the Samsung logo on the ribbon cable, while the new one is original and the Samsung logo appears on the ribbon connector. I wonder: Is this a factory failure?
@joseguse
