[Q] My new S2. Root attempt gone wrong. (Slight panic :P) SOLVED. TY. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I did the mistake of attempting to install this pre rooted kernel: STOCKPLUS-GT-I9100-XXLPB-KERNEL-ROOTED through Odin.¨
I couldn't find a version that matched my kernel gingerbread.XXKL5 so I thought it would be okay to just install any kernel with the same android 2.3.6 version.
All I wanted was to root my phone, now my phone won't even boot. I think it's stuck on a bootloop ? It goes to the samsung warning triangle screen and stays there.
My phone doesn't seem to be able to enter recovery mode. However, it can enter download mode ..
I'm finding this whole rooting business slightly difficult. I'm in over my head. Please, assist me.
Kind regards,
Nate.
* UPDATE: Managed to reset my phone using the steps detailed by Ctomgee (my hero) I thought my phone was done for. Again, thanks everyone for the invaluable assistance you guys have provided! I even got back all my apps and data
ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: Back from the dead.
Now I'm kind of scared to try but if anyone could explain exactly how to root the i9100G version I'd be much obliged ..

Surely STOCKPLUS-GT-I9100-XXLPB-KERNEL would be 4.0.3. rather than 2.3.6?
If you're a noob, why ignore all the stickies and FAQ and jump straight for some random kernel?

I was reading a lot of posts via xda dev forum and someone linked to that kernel and I dunno what I was thinking. Apparently I wasn't thinking at all. SORRY. Now how do I fix this? =(

2) I already replied to your problem

Reading it right now, thanks, however, the download link for the kernel file they're advising you to d/l seem to have expired? Which kernel should I use?

Please give me a link to the kernel file I should use to restore my phone =)

Before you make things worse, are you even sure you have an I9100? A quick search for XXKL5 revealed I9100G as more likely.
Stop waiting to be spoon fed and do some searching and reading.

You can try KL3 from Chainfire's CF-Root thread. Should work. Or just use Siyah or Speedmod, and be done with it.
oinkylicious is right... I didn't even think of that.

I attempted to do steps 1-4 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
.. However, After checking the box the phone came in I can conclude that the phone is indeed a GT-9100G. It never occurred to me that there are indeed different SIIs

Yup. There are MANY different SII's... Most have completely different model numbers. GT-I9100 and GT-I9100G are similar, but have different chipsets, so are not compatible for firmwares. Take very good care you only flash things meant for the I9100G.

That is forced download mode. Means you have to flash something to get it working again.
As long as you can get to download mode, it's not hopeless.
Try this.

Thanks! Just completet step 2. Repartition with Odin successfully!
Waiting 30 mins due to d/l limit on mirror site but then I will download firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and proceed with step 3. Should I just get the European one?

I've got no experience with this. I found it with a search. I have a non-G model. Just make sure you use a G firmware.

I9100GDZKL3 ## 2.3.6 2011 December I9100GOLCKL3 Malaysia Download

I experienced it last weekend. Bricked!
Having the same issue mistaken I9100G for I9100 and flashed Kernel based on I9100. Initially hanged at the Samsung logo with Yellow Triangle when reboot the phone it shows Phone---Exclamation----PC.
Searched and tried almost everything except sending to MobileTech.
After days of trying I resend it back to Samsung Service Centre claiming got the Logo after updating new FW from Kies.
With no questions asked from Service Centre, they restored my phone the next day.
I would advice you to send it back to service centre if you run outta options.

I actually feel slightly cheated since the product advertised is clearly the S2 with dual core see
http://www.bazula.se/Samsung-Galaxy/Samsung-Galaxy---mobiler/Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-i9100.htm
Read " Dual Core Processor på 1,2 Ghz "
According to my knowledge, the i9100G is actually limited to single core and is clocked at 1Ghz ?

Thanks, i've read that guide earlier and tried a few steps with no luck.
Is this what i should do?
"WARNING : FLASHING A BOOTLOADER IS DANGEROUS. FLASH WITH EXTREME CAUTION.
8) Download the Bootloader. Flash it as PDA or Bootloader in ODIN. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
9) Flash the Kernel, as in step 5
10) Flash the recovery package, like in steps 1-4 And that will fix any of your issues "

no dont mess with that 'Bootloader' one ma8, there is one on how to use pit file look into that
look for this in that thread
Recovering a soft bricked phone
1) Grab the Recovery Package, and you'll see a bunch of .tar files. Take a look at the names. You'll see CODE, MODEM, CSC and .PIT. Put each one in its place.
2) Turn off your phone. Enter Download mode by presing Volume Down + Home + Power button.
3) Plug in your phone. It will show you, in a yellow box in ODIN, ID:COMx (x being the number displayed, sometimes displays 7, sometimes displays 9)
Now here, take a breath
First try flashing WITHOUT the .PIT and re-partition. And only if it DOESN'T WORK OR FIX then you flash with the .PIT and Re-Partition ticked.
4) Once ready and done all your prayers, press Start. Wait patiently. It usually takes 5 minutes to flash.
Have you done everything correctly until now? Then...
Congratulations on recovering your phone!

[Q] Mid-bricked SGSII? What am I supposed to do?

Hello guys!
First of all, I'd like to say Hi to everyone here, because it's my first post, even if i was seeking and reading forum earlier.
Okay, so from the beginning.
I got that phone from a girl who tried to unroot it and change FW. Now, the phone just boots, and stucks on the bootscreen, or goes to Download Mode, and:
1. I don't know what firmware it really is.
2. IMEI is still unknown, until tomorrow, i hope so.
3. I tried to flash everything, just EVERYTHING and:
- I can flash all kind of PIT files, hadn't tried with custom PIT's
- Also, I'm able to flash all kinds of bootloaders, but without any visible changes in phone
- I made my own JIG USB PLUG, but no matter how hard i tried, it didn't work (i'll try tomorrow with 301k, instead of 300k, but i think it's too small difference to work different)(+++ it didn't work even with older bootloader, even with two types of turning off the phone)
- Phone is recognized by system as Samsung Device, but after bootscreen stucking, it changes to an unknown device.
- Flashing kernel ends up with boot.bin and stucks
- Flashing other stuff ends up with NAND Write Start!! or zImage etc.
- I tried all versions of Odin.
I'm getting tired after 4 days, and nights of trying to rivive that screwsung (sry, i'm really mad )
So, again: What am I supposed to do? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
CU tomorrow!

+ I got the IMEI (I feel like an idiot, forgot it is sticked under battery) - first two digits: 35 (someone in some thread found it useful, so maybe it will be useful again)

Not so obvious, really. I've seen more people I can count who have different models of SII come to this forum and flash random I9100 stuff to their SGH-I777/SGH-I727/SGH-T989/SPH-D710/SCH-R760/whatever.
Anyways, if you can get to download mode, just try flashing an original Samsung stock firmware. I recommend 4.0.3 or earlier. You can download one from www.sammobile.com.
Also, you said you can flash all sorts of PIT files. What PIT files? If you happened to flash a PIT file NOT meant for an I9100, you may have screwed the pooch.

I mean, PIT files of the same type, but from different sources (each one was meant for an I9100)
I tried that one, stucks at NAND Write Start!!... Maybe I'm doing something in wrong order?
I need to go to sleep, really, I don't want to screw something up because of my tiredness. I'll be back in a few hours, and for the moment, thanks for help

I'd also make sure your cable is good, and is connected directly to a port on the computer instead of through a USB hub, or a port on your keyboard, monitor, or other pass-through port.
Hello again.
I've just came home, and first of all, I've tried a few wires, all original, two from Nokia, one from HTC, two from Sony Ericsson, all with the same result.
One thing I want to ask you is that i don't really know which thing i need to flash first, kernel or firmware.
As far as i know flashing ICS Kernel with Gingerbread firmware may cause softbrick, or even hardbrick.
I've tried everything you said and I'm still stuck.
Thanks for your replies.

Firmwares will contain a kernel. Thus, if you want a custom kernel, you would have to flash a firmware first, then the custom kernel. Otherwise, if you do it in the reverse and flash a custom kernel first, then the kernel contained in the firmware would overwrite the custom kernel.
And you are correct that you cannot use ICS kernels with GB, or GB kernels with ICS.
Try following the instructions in this thread for the original I9100 model: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458. They are the first two sets of instructions labelled "GINGERBREAD VERSION" and "ICS VERSION". I would try the ICS version first.

Any version of Odin should work fine, including 1.85, but I currently use Odin 3.04.
Odin is not recognizing my phone, v 3.04.
I'll try with older version.
EDIT:
Something is wrong with drivers, i'm reinstalling them, just a sec.

So you never answered about the USB port - are you plugged directly into the computer? Have you tried other direct ports on the computer yet?
Last resort is to try a different computer altogether.

I've got 3 USB ports (I'm using a laptop, also Samsung, if it matters), and tried all of them. Maybe I could be able to use PC tomorrow. Or i'll reinstall windows, because i'm using 64-bit version atm.
EDIT:
My father told me, that it could be broken "board to board header connector".. But i'm still trying!
EDIT2:
I've just had a small talk with samsung service manager, he told me that they had one phone that started to work after 24hours spent without battery. Seems a little bit silly, but why wouldn't i try?
EDIT3:
And so.. I'm loosing hope. JIG doesn't work, don't even turns on the phone. Kernel, or firmware can't be loaded at all.. I'm completely out of ideas.

[Q] [HELP] Soft-Bricked Galaxy S3-I9300

Hey guys,
First up, this is what I was running.
-Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300
-FCC ID: A3LGTI9300A
-SSN: -I9300GSMH
-RootBox v3.8
So I installed RootBox v3.8 a few weeks ago and the update for v3.9 appeared on my phone along with the GAPPS update. I made the mistake of ONLY flashing the first update. So when my phone rebooted it kept on giving me the error 'Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly'. I was forced to then revert back to v3.8 and everything seemed peachy. Up until the other night where I turned on my phone and it showed, 'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again'. I accessed 'Download Mode' and tried to flash my stock rom back on but it failed in ODIN and gave me this error.

Heya!
Your SIII looks bad with this stripes!
Have you flashed your StockROM via Odin while you were in DownloadMode? If it don't be in DownloadMode, it also can't be flashed.
Try to download a firmware from samfirmware.com and to flash it via Odin in the PDA field while your device is in DownloadMode!
And when you have finished, go to Recovery and Wipe your Data&Cache!
Greetings...

If you read my first post, yes, I did flash it in Download Mode via ODIN.
Well, it obviously had a problem writing the rom into the phone (nand write failed). You may have a hardware fault. Do you have the nand chip that suffers from sds?

I've had similar issues before, not that exact screen, but issues with Odin. It worked eventually.
Try Odin3 v.1.85 from here (CF-Auto-Root thread).
Next, be sure you got a valid file, those from sammobile (Choose your country for).
Next, use only PDA button, nothing else, make sure it's the same settings as in root thread above.
Also make sure all Kies processes are closed.
Now, try until it works. It might take a few tries. This is what worked for me, hope it does for you too.

I hope I've not ended up with this phone mentioned in this thread....purchased a phone from ebay and the seller said its stuck on Android SIII logo...I can get into download mode but before I attempt anything can someone tell me if this is a UK phone so I can apply the correct ROM (if it works!).
Also, currently the phone does not charge, battery is fine as i've tried the battery from own s3 and vice versa...both batteries are fine but the phone does not appear to charge...I'm hoping this is ROM related....
Any help will be much appreciated otherwise its an expensive gamble!
BTW...In the download mode the product bit is blank and does not say Samsung galaxy s3 like my own working phone does...

[Q] Rooting the Galaxy S4 + Side Questions [WIP - Soft-Bricked]

I'm interested in rooting my new Galaxy S4 but I also would like the original stock rom in case if I ever need to go back to it. Would anyone by any chance have the original stock ROM?
Model: SCH-I545
Android Version: 4.2.2
*If any other details are needed, let me know.
This is a Verizon phone fyi.
Also, could someone please link me to a tutorial/guide for rooting the S4 and some other links that have ROMs that are a "must-get".
Thanks,
Hydra
Read the development forums. The stock image is ready enough to find, as are step by step root instructions. As to your last question, that is the type of thing that gets a thread locked. Read the dev forums, pick a few roms that pique your interest, and give them a test drive.

I'm new here so tried my best to find the correct section, and did search for guides.
I'm currently using this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798 , but upon flashing the prerelease kernal, it failed.
http://i.imgur.com/MjbRPrK.png
Also, in case of anything, how can I leave ODIN mode on the phone? Do I just power it off and reboot?
CM10.1 has been treating me pretty well. Haven't had any crashes or anything and runs fast and stable.
The only issue I noticed is you can't get a GPS lock while Network & Wireless location is on. Once you disable it GPS locks right in.

The tar file is 1.8 Gbs, is this the only method? I have horrible download speed and going to take 3 hours to download it.
Btw, can someone educate me on what just happened? Did I brick my phone? Will I lose any data?

Nope, I'm working on trying Samsung Kies, maybe that will do it but I tried to get into recovery mode thru the phone but takes me to that same window.
I'm also downloading the stock firmware.
Did you try just flashing the stock kernel back using Odin? Everything you've done is listed in this thread, right? Technically if you tried to flash the pre release kernel and it failed nothing should have happened.

Is what I get upon flashing kernel to the stock kernel. I am downloading the stock ROM as I type this. 1 Hour left to download it. Btw, does it matter what type of ROM I download?
Is there a difference from, http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...Galaxy S4 (Verizon) (SCH-I545)/Stock ROMs/TAR and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259 ?
I'm guessing it's the No Wipe feature?
And what's the worst case scenario with rooting the phone? Anything permanent? If this stock ROM fixes the current problem, then I'll attempt to root once more.

Tried two types of cables, a generic one and factory/original one. I tried two different computers with 2 different OS. Tried 3 different ports per computer.
Don't know what else I can do.
Since you're able to boot into Odin mode I think this can be fixed but it may require a pit file. Since I know nothing about pit files or why Odin kept failing for you I'm going to let someone else try and help you. I do not think your phone is beyond hope at this point. Good luck.... Try the sticky threads in general forum, original network is irrelevant as the hardware in the i9300 doesn't care.

Thanks a lot for your help, I have been in general section and many more sections on i9300. i have spent like 3 hours on google and XDA to check for an answer. Thats always my first choice , we gain a lot of knowledge when we go thru different sections. But big problem in this model is more than 50 countries are using same model and its really hard to find which country its belong to.
I have already tried ROM from China, India and now I am working on BTU UK and if that doest work i will go for Other UK companies, its coming back fail in ODIN most of the time.
Your problem in Odin is not unknown .
Usual reason is bad download or phone semi bricked .
Go to sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com
Or read the stock rom guide and or the guide on sammobile refrences firmware codes .
Most new Tmobile will be EE .
But i suggest the Kies Emergency Firmware thread will give you a better idea of original firmware .
