AT&T doubles upgrade fee to $36 Sunday, just before Galaxy Note release - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

We haven't paid the upgrade fee yet, even though we have reserved it. I hope we don't get stuck with this too...

I went into my local AT&T store to preoder mine. It wouldn't let me order it online without charging me $399 for it, so I went into the store. They told me I preordered it just in time to keep from getting hit with the $36 upgrade fee, then they waived it. I have never paid an upgrade fee.

Activation fee

Anyone know if this will be wavied. I talked to my local shack (love saying that) and they said it is $35 and comes down from sprint so they can't waive it. I know wirefly will only charge 19. So its 20 more plus tax and twice the activation fee I'm beginning to regret that shack preorder

Sprint charges the activation/upgrade fee, not radioshack. It should just be billed to your account. For upgrades, I think it's $18 and new activations are $35.
I know if you are a AAA member at the Sprint store they'll wave the activation fees.
i get a corporate discount so you think i can get it waived at the shack
I just called because my 125 port in credit never got confirmed... And they also waived the activation fee for me
New customer two lines both ported in from tmobile
sent from anything but an iPhone
im a new sprint customer coming from att, and went into sprint store and they waved the fee
I have just told them I don't want to pay an activation fee. Am re-upping that enough of an activation. So they always waive it.

Yeah, it all depend on who you talk to at Sprint. I tried *2 and a chat to get the fee's removed since my corporate discount is supposed to have free activations, and all I got was "it's a valid fee". I called the number listed in the thread here with people getting their upgrades reset, and the lady did it with no problems for both of my lines.
How much is activation anyways? Can we do it at best buy or does it have to be done over the phone?
its is done at the store they wont let you leave with out activating and it is 18

Does ATT match prices?

I just upgraded three lines in my 5 line family plan to SG2's (I loved it, got my parents and uncle to love it too, iPhone converts! I should get a medal or something. Hah)
Costco.com has the SG2 for 199.99 with a 30 dollar instant off, PLUS a case, screen protector, and headset with purchase. That turns out to be more than 100 dollars in instant rebates and accessories (counting all 3 new phones). I just ordered from ATT, and the phones are already shipped, so I can't cancel yet. However I can return the phones, wait till the system resets my upgrade status, and buy from Costco. I'm more interested in the instant offs, since the cases aren't good, and I already ordered cases and screen protectors from amazon.
Any way ATT can "match the price" or something?
The accessories Costco gives you is $2 eBay junk.
Sometimes they will match a price but YMMV. Depends on the manager. Better off buying from Costco anyway because you can swap your device within 90 days rather than 30.
Walmart sells it for 148.88 unless they randomly upped the price.
If the $100 was for 3 phones, then they would save you over $150.
I have had no luck getting AT&T to match prices. Upgraded 2 lines on launch day at a COR store, and have since tried twice, once against online retailers, and more recently against the 148 price at walmart. No joy, the best I got out of either the store directly or AT&T customer care was credit for upgrade and activation fees (which I have always gotten credited in the past just by asking nicely). Was thinking about returning them and re-purchasing at walmart, but COR was gonna hit me with 70 bucks of restocking fees, so the net 30 dollar gain wasn't worth the hassle.

That's where I got mine last Sunday. If you have an unlimited data plan call 611 and make sure you still have it. Mine got removed when I upgraded even though I told the guy I wanted to keep it. They don't know how to do it on their computers.
I don't upgrade through AT&T you get better deals through Walmart, Amazon and Costco.
The key at Walmart is to either call while the assoc is doing the paperwork, or, when they call to verify everything, MAKE THEM REMIND ATT ABOUT KEEPING UNLIM DATA!!! We've done it multiple times now, only reason I know.

Same here couldn't get them to price match and returning would be a lateral move with the restocking fee
Sent from AT&T Galaxy S2
My corporate store did price match the Walmart price. You just have to try for yourself to see if they will accept it.
i had to try 2 different stores the 1st one told me its impossible to match and that they are not allowed to do that but if i want i could return the phone pay the restocking fee they would reverse my upgrade and then to go buy it at walmart but i said f*** that and went to another store to try again they did it with no questions asked they just needed proof so they went to walmart website once they saw it they put the credit into my account they will not give it baCK in cash or anything like that but they did put the 51. bucks back into my account as credit so im good with my next bill lol
Best buy will match walmart price(just ask them to look it up) IF you pay tax on the full retail price. Otherwise I think amazon wireless upgrade department also has it for $140 and also saw it at Fry's electronics for $130.

At&t upgrade fee $36 as of Feb. 12th

Guess we will be the first ones to break in this BS.

I got an $18 credit by telling them I was thinking of switching an T-Mobile is offering $1 set up cost
I don't support this at all. It's sad that it's being added and I really hope that something happens and it gets reverted back.
Yes I realize that you only pay that once every 2 years, but AT&T doesn't need to be paid $36 for me to take the SIM card from your old phone, and transfer it to your new one.
At least it's not as bad as Verizon trying to charge $2 for every time you pay your bill. Even if you pay it online.
Is this even a concern if you pre-ordered? My upgrade fee amount is on my pre-order. In my case it is $0 because of my FAN account, but if you have a receipt that says $18, I doubt they can turn around and charge $36. If they try, I would fight it like crazy.

Definitely double check your bill as well, sometimes FAN's with waived upgrade fees don't always waive automatically and have to be manually done via business customer care.
If you bought it off Contract like me you don't have to worry about this fee.
They actually started hitting accounts for $36 last June .. we made them change it back on our account

Get the $30 upgrade fee refunded

I just saw the $30 upgrade fee on my bill for upgrading to the Inc4G. Since it's a BS charge, I figured I'd try to get it credited back. I upgraded at Best Buy, so I told the VZ rep that BB never mentioned an upgrade fee and that they just charged me for the phone. VZ said it didn't matter, and while BB should have told me, it's not a BB charge, so no matter how I upgraded, I would've been charged the $30 fee anyway.
I told the VZ rep that that was not acceptable. When I asked what the upgrade fee was for, as in "where does that $30 go? What do I get for that $30?", he couldn't give me an answer. "It's just a new policy", he said. So I asked, "So it sounds like I'm paying $30 for the privilege to remain a VZ customer, is that right?" Again, I got the "policy" line. He insisted that he could not refund the fee. So I asked him what he could do... he put me on hold for about 2 minutes and said that he could credit me 1 month of my unlimited data, which equals the $30 of the upgrade fee. So he did.
Success.
tldr:
Don't let VZ get away with that BS upgrade fee. Complain and get something credited. It's a garbage fee.
Nicely done sir!

I "exchanged" a Nexus for the Inc4, within the 14 day window, and they charged me an upgrade fee as well (I couldn't really understand their logic the way they explained it). They said there was no way that they couldn't charge it -- the system wouldn't let them take it off. I *****ed to the manager at the store (threatened to take the Nexus back...after they did all the paperwork... )and he credited me the $30 as well. I think you just have to be persistent, and not loose your temper. Good job! Let's all get some recovery!
yay!! you gotta use unlimited data more than $30 worth!!!! :good:
But for me, I don't know if I wanna argue them and get the unlimited data because I already have one.. :/ I wish they could just refund!

you're lucky you didn't get hit with the $35 restocking fee.
I had to pay the $30 upgrade fee AND the $35 restocking fee.
Maybe I'll try to argue one of those but I think it will be tough to get both.
I think the $35 has some justification I guess because they had to pay for fedex to pickup my GS3 and for fedex to delivery me a inc4g. Lets say verizon gets 50% off fedex retail rates, thats about $10 each way ($20 total) plus they need a guy to open the box and look at it.

Tmo, att, sprint, they all do upgrade fees, VZW was the last to implement the fee, its an extra revenue point, plain and simple. Its the nature of the beast. Corporate America. Deal with it.

They say that exactly I think it's scripted or something.
Anyway they gave me an extended battery and cover for 30 to appease me.

LG G2 $49.99 and $50 bill credit

I went into ATT today to grab my wife her own LG G2 and saw the price was $49.99 online versus $99 in the store. They actually price matched it in the store. I was kinda bummed that I paid $99 the week prior and they gave me a $50 bill credit to offset the price from my purchase. How awesome was that. So if you are looking to get this device $49.99 so should be reason enough for this beast of a phone. If you are within your 14 day window they may also give you the $50 bill credit. I attached my receipt for the non believers.
Nice! Thanks. (I hit your button, too.) Did they also waive activation fee? Looks like activation was $0 on your receipt.
I just bought mine last week, and the store said that 49.99 price only applies to online purchases. Very bummed, considering all the camera problems I'm having with it. They said I can return since its within 14 days of purchase but there is a restocking fee of 35 dollars which would make my total savings of 15 dollars + hassle of return and wait for mail delivery.
You lucked out!
Remember, they also offer %50 off bluetooth life+ headsets, if you are into that sort of thing.
Also, was anyone able to score some free goodies from AT&T with contract extension/renewal?

Not true. I would go to another ATT. My receipt proves they can do it. The LG is at discount and is not apart of the Online Only deals.

I just spoke to ATT, rep Christina. She said there is restocking fee if the phone was shipped to you, even if you ordered in store, and even if it is defective.
You need to ship the phone back with the prepaid label to avoid restocking fee.
I also placed my order today via same rep and hope to receive the phone by Friday.

Best buy has same offer on black friday. If you can't wait till then you can get it for $99 plus you get $50 e-gift card
Costco has it for $80 including accessories and free activation/waived upgrades in most instances ie. if you ask.
Don't forget, att currently has a $100 trade in program that i used to buy a pebble smartwatch cuz the guy was cool enough even though I didn't buy it there, just saying...

Paid full price on release day. Proud of it; worth every penny.
Kudos to those that are getting discounts now, I simply couldn't wait!

I paid full price on release day then complained to ATT the price dropped to 99.99 and they gave me a $50 credit
Deal or not, the G2 is a Beast!!!

I paid full price the first time, then I broke it, but had another upgrade eligible line, so I bought a replacement for 49.99 through Amazon. lol:good:
