Forcing market to check for app updates? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One thing I noticed with the market is it seems to periodically check for updates, but it doesn't seem to check that often. It seems like the Market application waits for a group of apps to get updated at once before it notifies you, or it seems to only check for updates on a certain day where app updates are rolled out onto the Android market (similar to PSN/XBL updates)
Does anyone know how to force the Market application to check for updates to my apps? I was thinking maybe going to the Market app in the system settings and clearing cache/data, but I was wondering if there's some other way to do it.

No settings or tweak I know of to make the Market check at specific intervals, I seem to get updates atleast a few times a week, never really had an issue with it.

No notifications for application updates

Is there somewhere I need to switch on notifications for application updates as they become available? Had this on my htc magic without changing any settings, and the hero manual mentions it, but at the moment they only way I find out about available updates is by going to the downloaded apps list.
i have same problem
same issue, its really weird
I have same issue, on both stock 2.73 ROM and Modaco 2.9. The 'show updates for installed applications' is selected but nothing is ever shown. If I go into 'My Downloads' there's often quite a few need updating....
maybe its a problem with the roms ur using try updating or using a stock rom
i always thought that this is the way it should be. i never got any notifications about updates for market apps.
I have a stock ROM and I do not get notfications of updates even though it's turned on.
Same here, no notifications. Perhaps this is a feature that will work with the new market version?
We might have to check with phones running the 1.6 update, that one has the new market right? See if that gives any notifications.

[Q] How To Separate Applications Updates?

Often i get many applications getting updated at the same time which strains my HTC Desire S. Is there a way to set each application its own update time/interval in order not to conflict with others?
If you go into the Market and click on the apps that you have, there should be a box that is already checked to automatically update. Uncheck it so that it won't update for you in the background.
Also, when you do update those apps, you should update them when you're on a wifi network. It's much faster than using the mobile network.
Yeah but what about scheduling? Or automatically updating specific number of apps every day?

Figure out which apps have updated?

I get notifications that there are updates for some of my apps. When I go to look I don't see anything that says which apps they are. I've disabled Automatic Updates for everything that will let me so I can decide if I want to update, so maybe these notifications are for the ones still left on AU.
But even then, how can I tell which apps received updates? The dates never seem to correspond to the notification date.
BTW...not rooted.

Any apps whether you manually updated or downladed them or
if the auto update updated them would show up on your pull down
notification screen.................
When the notification comes in, I pull down the screen and it will say something like 2 apps updated. If I tap the notification, it takes me directly to my apps but nothing in there indicates which 2 were updated.

I don't know which custom rom you are using but when I manually do
any updates or if google auto updates any apps it shows the application
names and tells me if the update was successfully installed.
The only time the notification does not tell me app names is when
it only notifies me that there are updates to be downloaded.
If the applications have already updated it won't show you because the are already up to date. It only shows you if the application needs to be updated.
Like he said though, if it already updated, then it should show you what was updated.
I also have automatic updates turned off and when I see a notification that any updates are available, I simply go into the Market, click Menu and select 'My Apps' and will see what updates are available at the top of the list.
You should see this as well if updates are indeed set to be manually installed.
I'm experiencing the same behavior. Says updates are available. Go to my apps in the Market... no updates available. I'm pretty sure this is a bug. Not to worried about it though.

Try this,
Go to settings>applications>manage applications then click
the "ALL" tab and click on "market" and click on "Clear Data".
Then reboot the phone and see if the issue is gone.
To answer your earlier question, I'm not rooted.
But your clear data/reboot suggestion worked perfectly! There are 5 apps waiting for updates to be applied.
Thanks!

[Q] Prevent single app from updating?

I tried to Google this but just kept getting results about what phones have what Rom updates and how to update apps.
The recent updates to the Trillian app are pretty terrible, I and many others are choosing to stick with the older version. Problem is I have many apps installed on this phone. Thanks to that update I am no longer able to hit "UpdatecAll" as I do not want the Trillian app to update, so I am forced to manually open the page for each app that has an update and update them one-by-one. A very annoying and tedious processes, especially since if I wait so much as a week there can be up to 20 updates to install.
Is there any way I can somehow block this one app from being updated or put it on a no update lust or something?
I don't like to have my apps auto-update.
Is there really no way to do this?
I would really like to know this too...

auto updates from playstore

Anyone facing this issue? I've set play store to never auto update etc but every once in awhile over the last few weeks I see several updates are pending then the next day they've auto updated. This is extremely frustrating especially with some apps like youtube vanced which I definitely do not want updated. I can't seem to find out where this is occuring at all.

Yes, me also. I rolled back a Gmail update and was very annoyed to find it auto updated itself after a week or so of me ignoring it.
yup, I have this problem too on xiaomi eu rom
I think I've figured a solution - so for whatever reason my playstore periodically overrides and resets my update settings to auto update and over data and wifi. This is unacceptable as I definitely wouldn't want to incur data charges for updates or have updates forced on me but is what it is --- what has been working so far is leaving the settings at auto update (wifi only) BUT going to the individual app I do not want installed and specifically unchecking autoupdate on that app. The hamburger/3 dots option top right in playstore for the individual application's home screen.
