I have a feeling that it should settle most of the flame wars. The bottom line is, although it is the best tablet out, I can't recommend it because of the "lottery" quality control asus has.

It's actually a very good and well done piece, IMHO.
It's good that this gets more mileage for Asus to really move its butt (not that they haven't, but they could do more).
You should have also mentioned the fact there still a lot of devices out there that exhibit none of the prevalent issues, as well as a lot of customers who are satisfied despite the issues (just to balance things a bit).
But, overall, as I've mentioned, it's a good piece.
Although it seems more than a few are wondering how Gary would feel about this Greg person you mentioned.

Well done, dood. i like how you touched base on all of the problems, but didnt just throw ASUS under the bus either. was quite a fair documentary. i remember you talking about this in the prime to tab convert thread (where i killed that fanboy ) im glad you followed through with it

Sorry dude. I was searching for recent Asus Prime video. I don't have 1 yet but getting 1 soon. I wanted to share what I found because your video is right on to the point. A lot of people were hipped about this tablet but once they become owners all you read now is negative.
Update your first post when Review 2 is up. I'm hoping for in-depth review.
I liked the video, was right to the point and informative. I learned a lot about the Tegra 3 that I didn't know before. (I kinda jumped into the Prime without doing much research)
I haven't really had any issues w/ my Prime. GPS is weak compared with my Xoom, but works good enough. Wifi is also right on par w/ the Xoom. Been rooted and overclocked since I got it, and really its only shutoff once. (during a file transfer, kind of annoying)
Overall, its the best Android tablet I've used. (I've used quite a few)
Nice video. When can we expect PART 2 (full review)? Will Part 3 include the mods for WiFi and GPS?
Enjoyed your video. I'm really looking forward to Part 2.

Hey Guys, Make sure you stop by the #Asus-Transformer IRC channel. We were going to create a separate channel for the prime but figured since we already have a well established room with a lot of devs, themers and "powerusers" we would just keep it one channel for now
If things get too confusing we will open the other channel specifically for the prime but for now we thought it would be best to have everyone going to one place.

They will probably will just end up paying royalties.

Ill be picking up my 3rd tomorrow as well lol! I returned mine today thinking i would not miss it. Boy was i wrong, it took a little bit of prying from my hand at the return desk lol. I had a little bit of screen bleed about one or two reboots per day but pretty good wifi but no GPS. I thought i would not miss it. Boy was i wrong!
Its been not even 24hrs and im hunting one down! My gf says she knew i would , that its a sickness or a challange for me hahaha!
I knew i was making a mistake when i laid down a extra several hundred dollars at BB last night for a ultra book. YUCK! I told her look at it this way even when i get my Prime & the dock again we will be saving $300 bucks. Its a win win haha!
Prime Time!
I finally got my Prime Rooted and now I'm eagerly waiting for some cool custom firmware.
I've never posted anything here but have used the site for quite some time...
Anyway, I ended up bricking my TFP this morning by messing something up when reinstalling CM9... I got stuck in a fastboot loop that was maddening!
Bumble-Bee on #asus-transformer helped me out big time and we were able to fix the problem. Ended up flashing a custom CWM.blob directly to boot.img and viola!
I was gonna post this on the BRICK topic in the Dev forum but i dont have enough posts yet lol
Yes, finally got my prime rooted and overclocked at 1.6ghz. Antutu you're mine!

damn this thing is fast.....lol
I had a TFP for a few days, it was very good but suffered from poor build quality the gps didn't work and there was light bleed bottom right hand corner, surffice to say i sent it back for a refund.

I'm in the same situation. What did you do that got it running again? My issue is that I can't get my computer (Windows 7-64bit) to recognize the device in fastboot.
Not sure if we have had one of these yet, but i would love to hear from the people who got a proper (or close to proper) prime.
Has it lived up to your expectations? Whats your fave thing about it? was it worth your green backs?

agree.. i love my prime.. its the best android tablet out there right now. the build is the best out of any tablet.
the honeycomb bugs are still there, they are 10x better with the quad core and less noticeable. all comes down to ICS.
if was to sit in my closet with the lights off while my tab boots i could see a light bleed, good thing i don't use my tablet ever in the closet with my lights off. so i'm good with that.
Had the original Transformer as well as a whole host of other tablets. I still say this concept of the detachable hard dock is the most productive I've ever had. The added battery life and a mouse make it feel like an honest laptop replacement. In terms of comparing the new and old Prime, the new one has some obvious advantages in terms of size I really like the weight of it. I do agree with those who said it is a little harder to hold, the metal makes it a little more slick. When I have been using it as a reading tablet for a period of time it does matter
Flaws... well, my GPS doesn't work. I don't know that I care, but since I paid for it I want it to work. Since I have the Galaxy Nexus I realy like ICS, so I hope like hell we get it soon. THe camera facing you isn't great, but oh well. And docked it is definately top heavy and prone to tip. They should have distributed the weight a little more evenly.
Do I like it a lot? Yes! Do I love it? Not yet, but I have a feeling I will
Finally got mine and so far, I'm loving it. Love the weight. Zippy, no lag. GPS doesn't work, but I'm not terribly concerned with that at the moment. Everyone here at work is Ohhh-ing and Ahhh-ing.
My biggest gripe right now is that "everything" seems to be backordered. Waiting for a case and the dock.

I appreciate this thread. I got mine yesterday and I am a HUGE fan of it. Everything seems to be working very well. I've been trying to run it thru it's paces, keeping the brightness all the way up, just looks amazing.

This can go both ways as well though, positive or negative. More people tend to post negative stuff and not positive posts, because the positive people are playing with there TP and are to busy to post here . I don't own one yet, I am hoping today is the day though!

Yes, funny how some folks point out such things as "confirmation bias" only to... well... confirm their own negative bias. It's downright ironic.

B&H had the case in stock and it will be here tomorow.
I love everything about the TP. I've seen no lag whatsoever. The games look awesome. I plugged in the Hdmi cable and played shadowgun on my plasma tv and it looked great. The bluetooth controller from Gamestop is pretty slick also. I personally think it flies on the Internet. Page transitions are very fluid. I've read some negative comments about it's speaker but the one that it does have sounds great.

Agree. Let's all just ***** instead. Also, somebody posted this exact same link (and post) last week, as somebody else was trying to inject something positive into this den of negativity. I have to ask... Why pee on somebody's parade?
Mine is nearly flawless, and I am glad I made my purchase decision. The very few issues I have with it are due to apps stability.

that's not ironic, and I dont have any bias towards the Prime as I don't have mine yet (will by next Tuesday) so I can't judge the device negatively or positively.
But ever since I saw that word posted on this board I couldn't help but see how frequently many here are actively looking for information to fit their needs. Its an easy way to set yourself up for disappointment at worst, or be pleasantly surprised if underestimate it.

actually this thread doesn't. its more of the majority of negative threads/comments being thrown around lately. based on that definition from wiki. this tread is good and needed although there's a similar one called the positive transformer thread.
to the OP, I think from my various posts, lol, you can see that I love my device. it has been performing great and has no issues I've noticed, so far. this is way better than my Ipad all around. can't wait till developement starts, ICS, and more tegra3 games being released. this purchase was more than worth the money. I'm so glad that I didn't let the negativity, before and after release, deter me away from this device. especially since its performing so well for me right now. definitely is the best tablet out now, by far and will more than likely be that way for at least the next 4-6 months.

if you want a great volume boost to the already great sound get volume+. there's a thread on it in themes and apps section. I bit the bullet and got it last night. I confirmed the major increase in volume level with a decibel reader. it consistently showed increase in volume/decibels with speaker mod on. it ridiculous how much more louder and bass output this thing has now. and the sound was already great before. this just makes it even better. check out the thread.

Well, at least it's not as bad as having to buy locked-in, walled garden Apple stuff.

In short, was it worth it? YES! I was able to sell my TF101 and dock so that a TF201 and dock only cost me $200 out of pocket. The upgrades are well worth it....
-Everything is quicker including all home scrolling, loading apps, recent apps list scrolling, keyboard typing (no lag at all in chrome!)
-The thinness and weight is noticeable
-Keyboard docking feels more quality (latch)
-Keyboard keys feel more quality, tacky; not as plasticy
-Screen quality is slightly better
-Overall build is great, not creaky
Just a few initial thoughts...... I loved my TF101, don't get me wrong. I used it soooooo much. I'm glad I upgraded. I can't wait for the next one. I hope I can use this dock with the TF700 or whatever it will be called!

Same situation here! I sold my 32gb TF101 and dock and purchased the TF201. Huge improvement, all problems aside.

Nice walks on the beach without shoes.
Hate sand in my bum.
While I applaud your enthusiasm and congrats on the purchase....the comparison has been done way before you got yours and not to be a ..well a poopie head...but this thread doesn't divulge anything we don't already know and actually clogs up the threads.
Please don't take this as a personal attack but more of a friendly chat to remind people and myself not to make needless threads...

Now don't take this the wrong way as i applaud your enthusiasm. But if you don't like his thread why not skip it and shut the hell up. Its the general section about the prime. Who gives a **** if someone makes a thread stating they like the tf201 that replaced their tf101. Does this in some way affect you? No it doesn't. And no, it doesn't clog up threads.

Normally, I'd agree with you. But since everybody and their cousin is making new redundant negative threads, why not some new redundant positive threads to counter them? If one goes to any of those negative threads and makes the point about unnecessary redundant posts, one gets flamed as a "fanboy." So, I say, what's good for the goose...

Anyway, back on topic, just like this thread was when I created it! This is perhaps something I should post in the OG TF forum as well. I was on the fence like many, but wasn't sure. I had posted a thread a while back asking if I should jump ship, and didn't find too many threads on others who had done so.
It has Begun. People who satisfied with Prime n such will make new threads also constantly just like the negative ones. What's useless is 80 negative threads on exact same issue. Now that's what useless. Negative complaint threads either start consolidating or more n more like this one will pop up n easily push negative threads down. Don't get us started..lmao. this section of xda is so funny. Like a soap opera up here all day everyday. SMH

Ok boy wonder. Read the thread. I didn't make the original post. I could care less if he makes a post stating his prime is better then his original transformer. I'm sorry you won't get your 10 seconds of your awesome life back for reading the post. I'm sure it took more time to make your response to the thread then to actually read it and hit the back button. But you know, it's so detrimental to XDA that there is one more useless post in the general section of the Prime forum.
And like my post, your post did NOTHING to further the spirit of this forum. Your post was just as rude and unneeded as mine. Don't act like you're some better person. If there's a thread you don't like, don't respond. It'll get moved down the list and you can go back to enjoying your life that was ruined by a useless post on XDA.

Monkeyboywa, if this thread doesnt interest you just skip it. I for one am interested in what people feel the diferences are in the 101 ans 201. I am on my 2nd prime and have been trying to decide weather to bail out and go with the 101. So, I got a 101 and have been comparing them for a week trying to decide . What I have found so far is the wifi on the 101 is only 10% better than my 201 ( maybe I got a good prime as far as wifi), but in all else except gps the 201 excells. Video quality is close but I can see the 201 is sharper. So , my feeling at this point that giving up the prime for a 10%improvement in wifi isnt worth it

I am on my 2nd prime and have been trying to decide weather to bail out and go with the 101. So, I got a 101 and have been comparing them for a week trying to decide . What I have found so far is the wifi on the 101 is only 10% better than my 201 ( maybe I got a good prime as far as wifi), but in all else except gps the 201 excells. Video quality is close but I can see the 201 is sharper. So , my feeling at this point that giving up the prime for a 10%improvement in wifi isnt worth it

Your analysis and decision would be the same for me if I was deciding on going back to the TF or hadn't had the TF first. I know after having the TF101 that I couldn't go back.... the improvements are well worth it for me.
Even just typing this right now is so much better on the 201 than the 101.
man..i'm glad I got one too. differently smaller and more streamlined then my old tf101.
I swear it seems faster to. I mean..i'm sooo glad i got it.
It has bad gps..but really who bought this for the ability to find out from google maps where you are?
My wifi is really good too especially with the new .13 patch. The screen has a small bleed problem and one burnt pixel but that's a fry cry from the 1x3in dead zone i had on my first atp.

Had a TF201 for 13days, owned a TF101 that I sold just prior to the Prime purchase. Thankfully I was able to purchase the TF101 back at the same price. The TF201 may very well yet become a great device, time will tell if Asus can get the updates/fixes out, but aside from that IMHO the Prime has some design flaws (ie the MicroSD slot, the full metal jacket, the single speaker) I think many have got way too excited over ICS. Anyone that has used HC I think will not see any huge differance, for all those cell phones on GB sure it's a huge leap forward, but for anyone that has had a tf101 it's a minor update. For me the TF201 is not worth a $250 out of pocket upgrade over the TF101. Before anyone questions the math I had sold my tf101 with dock for $450, and I figure that a tf201 plus dock would come in at about $700

Now back on topic. 101 or 201 this decision is harder than I thought. I replaced my 32gb 201 wth a 64gb because I toasted a 32gb card because of the crap design of the card slot. That and the 32 had really weak wifi
So adding a card to increase memory is impractical unless you get a case that covers the slot. So the 64 201 is $150 more than a 101 + 32gb card. That is enough to buy a dock--- Im not 100% sure the performance boost of the 201 is worth it for what I am going to be using the tablet for. I am, however, noticing a definate lag in response in typing this note on the 101 as opposed to typing on the 201 and its anoying
. Also last night while comparing identical youtube videos side by side the 101 loaded up to 4 sec after the 201 even though I tapped the 101 first. These are both probably a result of the better processor in the 201
All in all I am having a hard time making up my mind

It's a mini documentary on the Prime and it's troubles. It is by far the best tablet around (I have a properly working device) but not everyone can say the same, Asus has dropped the ball big time here, and it's about time everyone saw the full story.
Maybe xda TV could make a little foot note of it, in one of your videos?

Great video! A lot of information I didn't know about the transformer. Makes me kind of glad that I didn't buy one immediately.
I do love Asus, but this makes me sad that the transformer performed like this in the beginning.
I'm hoping the Padfone is an amazing product and doesn't fail at the beginning like the transformer.

This was a post I made ages ago in the xda tv section and it just got moved lol. Terrible.
And it is wonderful! Everything works like it is supposed to.
I tested the wifi, gps and bluetooth and they are fine. I had my fingers crossed after reading stuff here.
Im a satisfied prime user and by the looks of it im in the minority here

Isnt there a positive prime thread with all the happy prime owners. The OP would fit right in there. Check out demandarin's signature there is a link there.

I do not want to take the happyness away from you, but test WiFi and BT together, not one at a time, and tell us if WiFi is dropped or weak when you listen to YouTube stream or similar test.
Better yet there should be a Un happy Prime owners thread. Rather then having thread after thread of the same negative threads being made. Majority of people are tired of seeing. Its refreshing to see positive posts. I don't have any issues as well. You seem to just want to keep the truth about the majority being happy with their devices. Its about time happy owners started expressing themselves. So if you want happy owners to stick to the positive threads... then i suggest the un happy stick to theirs and not hijack the Prime forum to make it look like the Prime is a lemon.

That would be logical and some people on this forum wont effectively troll if it were all in one thread because people happy with their prime like myself would simply avoid that thread. They should also have a thread where people talk about how great it was switching to an Ipad and how it solved all the worlds problems.

I've been streaming music over wifi using google music to my bluetooth headphones for a while now.
Wifi stays perfect and does not suffer at all from bluetooth being used.

Well I can see you are in Sweden, I got mine RMA'ed through ASUS Nordic, and it's on the way back from repair center.
It's nice to see that yours works fine. But I would suggest to do so:
Go 5 meters away from the router, (I see you are close, as you have full bars in Wifi signal).
Instead of testing the mouse test a BT headset and stream while you are at least 5 meteres from WiFi source.
If the music or YouTube stream does not drop, then you are save.
There is hope so for me too. Mine had only WiFi/BT issue otherwise was perfect.
