HTC EVO 3D Otterbox Maximum edition - HTC EVO 3D

Do you want Maximum Protection and Maximum Batterylife Yet you can only choose one or the other. well ive got news for ya . Introducing the Otterbox MAXIMUM edition Extended Case
This otterbox DEFENDER series Sets a good example for other phone cases on how they should be built. this case fests a Wamping 3500 Mah Hyperion Batterypack and Fits absolutely perfect Without even violating a percentage of protection.
This case took 2 hours to prep and 2 hours to make.
The case was a success !.
And now for the pictures.

Awesome! Just what I've been looking for. Gonna Google this to see how much it cost.

I'm afraid its doesn't exist till now . I crafted this whole design except the patent patent of otter boxes design

Ah, makes sense now!

What's protecting the battery's heat from the rubber?

some type of heat resistant tape. there are just a few things left that I have to do to complete it-

Maybe Otter will see this and start developing something like it! I would love to have a 3500mAH with the protection of the case.

Yeah I have like 4 of those for free.

Nice work man,
I did a mod like this on my defender for the hd2 HERE the case for that phone is a slightly different design + the battery is right in the middle of the case which helped.
I just did one for the Ballistic for the EVO which isnt as tidy but has been going strong for about 2 months.
I want to do a V2 of the ballistic a bit tidier this time .
Did you have to cut your backplate? I used the remainder of the extended one I used for the "bulge"
pics below>
EDIT Inspired by posting here last night, I was up late in the workshop V2!
Bottom 3 pics are the re-worked mod.
More people should try this mod on either Ballistic or Defender it takes some skill and the right materials but its totally do-able

Guys keep this up! I definitely need a case for this 3500 battery. I dropped this phone twice today. Face down! My luck may run out if I do it again.

Butter fingers lmao Ya man I know what that is like to drop one.. I had someone bump me and knock my brand new evo 3d outta my hands hit he hardwood floor face down 4 foot drop with a tpu case on it lol...
Glass didn't break phone worked fine But made my guts rolll

I always carry my phone with the screen facing outward in the Otterbox Defender holster/clip. You can't even tell there's a Seidio 4000 battery in there. My phone looks absolutely stock.
I'll posts some pictures when I get some time.

Yeah man, throw some pics up soon, I love these mods!
one of the reasons why I got the evo3d over the sensation was the Extended battery/rugged case potential

Here are pictures of my 3D with the Seidio 4000.
First picture shows the back of the 3D.
Second picture shows the inside of the holster. It was dremeled to allow the bigger battery to fit comfortable.
Third picture just shows the phone sitting on the holster.
Fourth picture shows the phone clipped inside the holster. You can't even tell that there's a big fat battery inside there. =)
The last few pictures shows the cradle that i made out of pvc pieces. Besides not having to take the phone out of the case, you can angle the phone forward or backward when watching videos so it's very convienient.
(I've also made a simple mount out of plexi glass for my car that will work with the 3D inside the Defender. Which I will take pictures of and post after I get my car back from the body shop sometime this week.)

So is anyone going to put a tutorial on how to do these mods? I would really like to protect my phone with this beast of a battery on.

I wish I had taken photos as I was making the mods, but I didn't think about it. However, all you really have to do is SLOWLY cut out the back of the cover with a dremel tool.
*edit*
Oohaylima - if you were planning on using the 3500mah battery, then you don't have to dremel out the inside of the holster or cut the rubber on the case, bcuz I didn't have to when I had my 3500, but that battery didn't work as well as the Seidio 4000. I was trying to save a few bucks by buying the cheaper battery but in this case, you really do get what you pay for.

i have the same case and battery but i havent done this and i was wondering if the battery stays in or does it fall out

The holster is what keeps the battery in. So if you use the case with the holster than it shouldn't be a problem.

someone HAD to say it. Alright here it goes. Lets make a bulky back even blukier lol the extended battery doubles the thickness so the otterbox has to at least triple it. i mean if you want to hold a two ton tank, go right ahead but i wont be getting this anytime soon...
EDIT: they arent making a different kind. the video shows them NOT useing the plastic back. just the silicon. they are MacGyver-ing a case for the extended back

Yup. I was going to say that too because it looks like all they did was not use the back peaice cuz ive seen pictures of someone that did the same thing and it looked exactly the same.
Thats just a regular OB defender just streched.
Exactly. Read my post or watch the video on the website lol

Tried it, had it on my phone for less than 5 minutes and couldn't stand it. I'm taking it back to Verizon tomorrow :/
so could i buy a regular otterbox defender for rezound and then just not use the back and put it on my extended battery rezound.
That really gonna protect your phone when u drop it on the back
its still probably better then a stock extended battery silicone case.
lololol i wonder if they're taking the backs out of the packaging and selling it for like 2 dollars cheaper hahah...extended battery version my ass.
Could you imagine how thick this bastard would be if they actually had a defender with the back for the extended? I'd have to get the oversized giant jackass pants like all the kids are wearing these days. It definitely wouldn't fit in my skinny jean pockets!!
i might buy the defender on amazon for 27 bucks and just take the back off. i love the way the buttons feel.
IT actually protects well best option for protection with the extended battery. I actuall took the back dremeled out the area for the extended back and it works great. U be dropped my phone on concrete and asphalt and no damage.
i wanted to see what it was like in person before deciding to buy one but no one seems to have it in stock(verizon store, best buy, etc).
so no one ever answered my question from earlier
is this just a normal rezound otterbox defender with no hard back?

i just ordered a otterbox defender from amazon for 30 bucks shipped. i might try to dremel out the back, or just not use the back
man that case makes the phone look soo thick.
i got my defender in today for my rezound. it is so much better then the Verizon extended battery. the buttons are so much easier to hit the buttons and it feels alot better in my hands. i got it for 18 bucks used on amazon.
Well I thought the Rezound was all ready fat with the extended battery. That case adds another 6 inches to it. You probably can't even fit it into your pocket with that case on.

New Mugen Power Extended battery in! Photos!

Just received this today, it's charging now so I will update when I have some battery usage stats.
It actually feels good in the hand, I usually use a rubber case with the Note anyway. It has the NFC antenna and the kickstand!
Nice! I was thinking of buying one. I'll be looking forward to seeing battery usage stats!

So far my only complaint is that the phone and case is very slippery (i'm used to the silicone case) so it slides easily out of my pocket and onto the floor. I may investigate pouring my own silicone case mold of some kind.
Just to make sure i'm getting the same one that you have took pictures of, is this it? i don't see a single picture on the website.

Why not just use a second battery and swap? I hate how fat it is.
Do not want to hijack the topic but seidio batteries are equally good , if not better
and cheaper
http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-note-lte-5000-extended-life-battery-p/bacy50ssgnta-bk.htm
Except with a horrible horrible hump.
The Mugen looks too thick for my tastes but the Seidio one is horrible beyond measure.
Looking at the Seido battery, it is $20 cheaper, but also 400ma less than the other one. Not sure how much 400ma equals in terms of usable time, maybe 30-45 mins? I just wish the Seido case didn't look chopped in half. Mugen case is at least uniform.

I actually don't mind the thickness -- it fits well into my hand, gives the phone some "fill". I usually use a case with the phone anyway, so it's not much thicker than that.
Obviously, extended batteries aren't for everyone. I actually do have a 2nd battery but then I need a place to carry it, and I don't just want it banging around in my pocket.
Another problem is that to swap batteries, you need to pry off the case, pull the flimsy OEM back cover, take out the battery and put the new one in, shutting down your phone in the process. Then you have to repower the phone, reapply the cover, reapply the case, and you've lost whatever you were doing in the interim.
Having more than double the battery power that's just "always there" is a much better option for me, but I haven't fully made up my mind yet.

It's too early to tell but I took it off the charger around 4pm yesterday, and it's now 9am and I'm at 78%.
Once I am down near the end of the battery I will post some BBB screens.
I like the looks of this battery cover MUCH more than the one I have now for my extended battery. This looks so much more professional that the "warts" that the other manufactures have made to accommodate the NFC antenna. Very cool design to get the antenna in there.
Plus, this one gives more room for my Qi Wireless Charging project I want to work on...
just purchased mine. i "liked" them on facebook and got 7% off.
guess i gotta sell my black seidio active case and my tryit black leather flip case now. pm me if you are interested.
21 hours on the battery now . It's still the first charge so these numbers will probably change, but it's at 75%.
Here is BetterBatteryStats:
1. What is the blue strip across the top in the first picture?
I think I see, this is the kickstand.
2. Why is there a sticker covering the entire back of the cover (I think in pic 3)?
3. Does NFC work with this battery?
4. Is the kickstand part of the replacement case?
5. Does it replace only the back battery cover?
6. Can you snap another photo showing the battery actually in the phone without the cover?
7. From what it looks like, it makes the phone about twice as thick... is that about right?
8. Is it heavier?
Im not meaning to be a pain, Im very much considering picking up an extended battery and my experience with Seido batteries has been very positive but I think I like the design of this better than the Seido, I just want to make sure.
FYI, $92 on Amazon...

So here you can see the stats for today. 11 hours on the battery, moderate use, 1 h 11 m of screen-on time, some bluetooth, short phone calls. On the stock battery, I'd be down around 50 or 40%, but I am at 75% on this.
It's got a TON of power.

Otterbox Defender and Extended Battery Mod, (cutting required)

Ok, so this is my first thread on these forums. If I'm breaking the rules or posting incorrectly, etc. Please let me know how to fix it.
I went ahead and got all the measurements off of various sites before I attempted this. I lost the paper I wrote the dimensions on. But this does work. I used an exacto knife, old pair of wire cutters and a file. I wish I had a dremel to do this, It would've been a lot cleaner and more exact.
I ordered an OEM Thunderbolt Extended Battery, Otterbox Defender Case, and a Zagg Screen Protector. I've been using this setup for a month now and am very pleased.
I spent $65 total on amazon.com and zagg.com for everything.
I first laid the battery in the battery cover and scored the edges. I pushed through it on one corner than began to cut. I filed down the edges. I then laid the cover in the Otterbox case and scored the outline. Then I ran the exacto back and forth for quite a while until I got through on one edge, than began to cut.
Here are my results. I know the images aren't the best quality. I haven't bought a new camera since before I've had my first android.
I peeled a bit of the padding out of the back of the Otterbox case and put it on the battery just to see how much it would push out the silicon cover, not much.
Now I am going to double-side tape the left over rectangle of the battery cover to the battery and get some weather stripping and place it on top of that.
The Zagg and the Otterbox mate well at first, eventually they begin to separate around the edges, I used the spray between them that came with the Zagg shield. The Zagg stays in place though. I haven't noticed any dust or debris since it's started. So far over this month they've stayed together in the center. I don't mind it as I am pretty hard on my phones physically and usage wise. It's hard to tell when the screen is actually on.
If you have any questions that I haven't answered, just let me know.
Thanks for looking.
How well has this been working for you? I have been planning on doing the same thing.

I saw on htcpedia that you can actually use the Defender case without the back plastic piece. Just wrap the silicone outer cover around the phone with just the front plastic on. Haven't tried it but their video shows that it seems to fit perfect.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
The problem with doing that is the phone will not fit in the holster screen out and the volume buttons are way to sensitive. If you cut the otter box back and the standard battery door everything fits nearly prefect.

I believe that also voids your (lifetime) warranty. Commuter cases are better anyway, but that's just me..
*Sent...*
You should read the fine print. Its hardly a lifetime warranty. In fact is only for a year. And if you have a flaw within that year, they will only replace it once. Besides, how many things can really go wrong with a phone case? Once it breaks, your probably ready for a different one anyway.
Sent from my rooted slightly modified Rezound using XDA
Just did this last night....and I agree, would be much easier with a dremel. I'm going to borrow a friends to smooth the cuts, but so far, it works like a champ. I used an OEM Rezound extended battery though

Love the mod. I'm gonna do it my next day off. How solid does it feel? Does anything feel lose on the back? Also do you think this would work with the mugen 4000 mah battery?

Looks and fell you can't even tell you did the mod. I did nice clean cuts the battery cover was so close on my cuts a had to go back with sand paper as I was not getting cell service do to the antenna no connected. So take your time the OEM batt cover already has the outline of the battery so that cut is very easy. after that just lay the back cover in the outerbox and mark and cut you will be very happy with it.
I ended up doing it yesterday and I'm in love
. You really can't tell it's there. The only thing I'm wondering is the dimensions of the 4000 mah battery because I'm wondering if it will work with this mod. Can anyone chime in? Is it bigger then the OEM extended battery?

Well the 4000 mah battery has to be the same around so even if it is thicker I think the outerbox rubber will still give in and pull over it just fine.
Today I did the same case mods.
I purchased a used standard rezound back piece for $5 + $4 for shipping. This way if I screw up I only lose the used back piece.
Well I did a good tight job on the back piece. It's like HTC already put cutting lines inside the back piece to make it easier for us. I used a dremel tool with cutoff wheel. Also used a file to smooth it out.
On the defender box I cut the rectangle a little too low and had to lengthen the hole. But I don't think it matters that the hole is 1/8 inch larger than necessary.
I am generally pleased, but I suspect this leaves the phone more vulnerable to water damage if it becomes submerged in liquid.
Sorry to everyone for not checking on this thread in such a long time. This has had a very solid feel. I love the rezound. Also, as for the 4000mah battery. I looked at the youtube video about it. It is a tad thicker than the OEM extended battery. But I see no reason why it wouldn't fit. The silicon will stretch. I'm actually looking into getting the 4500mah battery from mugen for the thunderbolt to see if that will work. I don't mind the added bulk, obviously haha. I also need to clean my case up with my dremel. I've just been lazy. I can take pics of this phone later to show how it's held up. The only other thing is it is hard to fit the phone in screen out in the belt clip if you want to use it as a stand. With any mugen, imho, it will not fit that way at all. But regular face in, no battery will affect that.
I'd be careful about handing all that cash to mugen. Their batteries are under 80 percent of the claims.

Wow, that is very interesting. If OEM is the closest to what they state, I may just solder my other incredible 2 batteries together haha.

Got my Seidio Active Combo

Just got my Seidio Active Holster Combo. So far I really like it. All the buttons work with minimal effort. Phone still feels really thin. A least now I feel like I have something to hold on to. The camera is recessed. They did get rid of the extra locking mechanism on the spring clip. I never used it anyway on my previous holsters.
Not sure if I like the kickstand or not. Quality is not as good as the oem kickstand, but it works well. (I really missed having one on my rugged case) Its retained in by a small magnet in the lever and a spring pushes the lever out when you pull on it. Its a lot easier to pull out that the oem kickstand.
I added a few pics of my wife's active and my rugged (i think its called convert now) on our OG Evo's for comparison.
One word of warning though with the spring clip holsters. Be aware of things that will catch the spring clip and release your phone. A seat belt sent my og evo cartwheeling down a drive way when I got out of my truck.
Otherwise I think the seidio cases are the best I've used if you want a case holster combo. If you don't like having a holster, there may be better cases for the money.
Hopefully this helps someone else if their on the fence on what case to get.
Thanks for the pics, will it sit with the charging port on top with the case kickstand like the built-in one?
Nope It wont stay up on the kickstand with the charge port up. That's one of the only things that seem to annoy me with the LTE is the charge port on the side. I guess I will get use to it.
I was afraid of that. I love the Active case and holster on my OG Evo, too bad they covered the kickstand on this one. I bought a TPU case 'cause it didn't look like the kickstand on the Active case would hold it with the port up for charging but I was hoping to upgrade if it did.
If they would have left the oe kickstand accessible I would have bought this in a heart beat. I ordered the ventev combo for $14 shipped still waiting for it to arrive will update when I get it.

That's a great price. A lot less than the seidio. looks pretty nice too. Should be a great case. I have always had the seidio cases and been happy with them. Also they were the only ones shipping at the time I ordered. I wanted to have the case before I go back to work tomorrow. I dropped TEP a while back, so a case is my insurance. Someone else was talking about that on a thread for the best buy case. I don't have that issue at all. I tried wiggling the phone in the holster and pulling it in and out. Could not get it to shut off. I did notice that on the holster at the end of the model number there is a 2. Also on the underside of the clip there is a cutout/recessed portion to clear the power button. here's a pic. Maybe you guys can exchange it for the newer revision. Also I love this camera. Could never get a detail shot like this on the old evo.

Sent from my EVO LTE!!
Looks like Seidio has redesigned the Active case:

Of course, the "re"-design is really the way it should've been to begin with. Not sure why they couldn't get it right the first time. I'm kinda pissed because I wouldn't have bought the Surface case if this were available at the time of the LTE's launch. Now I want the Active but I'll have a useless Surface case - too late to return and probably not worth selling on eBay.
Compared to Defender?
How would you compare any of the seidio cases for the lte to the otterbox defender series?

I've never had a Otterbox so its hard for me to compare. But based on looks and most reviews I have seen. I'm not sure if you can go wrong with ether. I do like the look of the defender. Fit and finish looks real nice. Not sure if I like the built in screen protector. ( I'm picky about screen protectors) The holster looks interesting. Might have to try one out some day.
This is my fifth phone with a Seidio case. What always swayed me toward seidio before was some of their other accessories that works with their cases. Like the desktop cradle, car dock and extended battery.(Extended battery is off the table with the LTE) When I got my LTE there wasn't much to choose from and there wasn't a release date yet for the otterbox.
If I were going to pick a case today and I didn't care about a desktop cradle or car dock I would go with the otterbox. Since I wanted these things I went with seidio. I know seidio is releasing a cradle soon an I'm still hoping for a seidio car dock to be released.

3200mAh External Battery Reharger Case ( less bulk then extended battery with hump )

just saw this while searching for cases on ebay...etc
you get some bulk but nothing close to those extended battery with ugly looking bulge/hump

cheers !
Just had this good case sharp feel around the edges but its biggest problem is the charge rate is .5 amps. Our phone prefers 1 amp, as such the phone charges extremely slow and sometimes while using the phone you will actually lose battery. I ended up returning mine, thinking of getting a 5,000 amp battery because of this, tried not to but that's the best option.

i have the smaller 5200 mah extended battery and this case.
Honestly i like them both but i go back to the 3200mah case with stock battery because it charges my phone while i stream pandora all day. .5 charging amp isn't that big of a deal. it still charges the battery for me.
extended is nice too though, but they don't last as long as you would think. (at least mine didn't) unless you buy an expensive mugen one.
Just ordered this up, thanks for the posting! It's everthing I want - mega juice, option to remove without shutting phone down, good looking (no HUMP!), kickstand, and cheap! Could also double as a multi-use external battery pack for other phones, mp3 players, etc. Now to calm my anticipation for 3-4 weeks while I wait for shipping, LOL.
Check out all the goodies
Found more alternatives... many different styles and capacities ... YEAH !!!

Some of these look pretty nice, but some of them defeat the purpose of the s-pen, especially the ones that totally block it & include a crappy lil' stylus instead :/
Still waiting in the big boat to cross the ocean. Should be delivered any day between now and Nov 4th hahah.
Battery case showed today. Initial impressions: great feel in hand, very textured and slightly rubbery but slides in and out of pocket well. Fit is ok, one corner could have been molded a little tighter. Nice suade material where the phone rests against case protects phone and keeps from shifting around. The micro-usb fits VERY tight, a bit scary like if I pull hard enough to remove i might break the pigtail cable. Kickstand is cheap/lightweight but works. We'll see if this offers anything near over double the battery life I get. If not, I'm only out 17 bucks. I'll report back in a week or two after it's run in for awhile.
