Upgrade to Android 4.0.3? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a Galaxy S II, I want to upgrade to Android 4.0.3, which firmware you advise me.?
I want a future that would allow the update via OTA and the Kies.
Sorry for the ignorance and Parabens by the Forum.
My version is low!

this BADLY needs to be moved to the Q&A section. Development threads only in this section!!
If you want to keep all the official update methods then you will just have to wait on Samsung. Flashing one of these voids your warranty....

Stock is better than any of the ICS builds currently available for me.

New CM9 build is highly recommended.
Edit: Apologies disregard. Kies/OTA requirement spotted.
Regards

I guess its easy to summarize that there's none currently, as the ones currently available are leaks and not officially released by Samsung, and therefore, you won't be able to update through OTA or Kies.
Wait for a few weeks for the official version.

What S/W Version is currently on the device?

What S/W Ver are people who have the phone currently running? Any recent OTA updates?
May have a present for users. No Guarantee
What? No one knows? Pretty simple question.
Once I get an answer I may be able to change things a little. I just need to know because I don't have a GSII.....
KI8 2.3.5 seems to be the newest samsung rom, or 2.3.7 with cm7/miui.
As its a Question in the wrong forum but i will answer its simple most people with SGS2 are running what came with the phone . XDA users are running many and varied firmwares . Latest release for some is KI8 no releases this month .

So I Rooted, What Happens to ICS OTA?

Hey guys/gals, so I recently rooted my WiFi tab using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185
My question is, once the OTA ICS update rolls around from Samsung what will happen to my device?
Thanks.
your device will get android 4.0...
If you allow the ICS update, it will update you to ICS but remove your root. If you flash a custom ROM then you won't get the ICS update until you go back to stock.
or until we get custom ICS roms. Which at the rate development of them is going in xda, may be before the ota release.

Yeah, I have been on GB with my Samsung Captivate for over 3 months and there is no eta yet for an official update to GB yet.
often people will root the ota to keep root. i would imagine we will have ics roms before samsung releases it.

[Q] Android 2.2 update to any higher version?

Can any phone running android 2.2 be updated to 2.3? Or is it just a specific list of phones. The phone in question here, is a Samsung Galaxy Q. It's running stock 2.2. I would like to update it but there don't seem to be too many instructions on the internet.
Any ideas...?
I think Samsung didn't make an OTA for your phone so there could be the possibility that they dropped your phone... . Nevertheless if you root it, you can put 2.3 on it manually by flashing a rom. (but this depends if there is one available of course)
Sent from my LG-Stone from the Prehistory....
Naaaahh... Just kidding!

Moving to Q&A
Can we upgrade micromax A35 to its os 4.0.1 ICS
if there is any solution to upgrade this
Unfortunately, Samsung did not upgrade our phones to 2.3. They dropped support altogether. I owned this phone and there is no way to upgrade it since it isn't a common or high-end phone. However on the bright side, you can root your phone and even unlock it (I did this). Depending on where you live, you probably bought it unlocked .
There is a thread here that discusses this phone. At most you may be able to flash a version of the same ROM without carrier apps if you're in the USA. Other that that, there really isn't anything for this phone. I might be able to search up the links for rooting and that XDA thread if you're still interested.
Good luck!

Upgrade from Europe ICS build to UK ICS build

I'm considering upgrading my SGS II to the released Europe ICS firmware, but can this then be updated further via ODIN to the official UK version update when it comes out next week?
All I wanted to understand was whether if I updated to the Europe version whether I'd be commited do that update schedule, or I could go back to 'official' release later on if I wanted (if it got a further update earlier for instance)
Apologies if it was an inapproriate question

do not apologize mate you are entitled to ask questions so forget the trolls who are flaming you.
more than likely the UK update will be similar to the LPQ one if not the same version anyway. so your best bet is wait and flash it through odin when it is released here. That is all the best you can do..stick with what you have and then when the release gets here to us then feel free to update through odin

I don't see a problem with people asking questions. But asking if you can flash an EU rom on an EU handset is like asking if its possible to spread butter on bread. Its simple understanding that can be done with reading.

true but it is always to be safe than sorry and even if it is straight forward understanding for some they just like to be sure...so if you did not want to reply to him just ignore it rather than give a smart ass answer like you did.

[Q] Kies wont update Galaxy SII to ICS

Hi this is my first post so im hoping its in the correct place
SO basically I want to update my Galaxy S2 to Ice Cream Sandwich using Kies but when it searches for an update it says there is none available and that "This is the latest firmware" whereas with my dads Galaxy S2 it has updated to Ice Cream Sandwich as well as my sisters S2, I figured it may be because mine is rooted, so I took necessary steps to unroot it and flash back a secure kernel using Odin, But still no luck, I just wonder whether restoring my phone to factory would solve the case of Kies not picking up any update?
I'm inexperienced with the stuff
Any suggestions?
Thanks
First welcome to XDA
here at XDA we don't really rely on the updates coming from manufacturers. You can try to update your phone manually by using Odin which might not be a good option since it might change your bootloader and potentially brick your phone. There are more options available but I can't give you much details as I don't own a gsii. head over to their forums for more details and all questions related to gsii should be posted in their q&a sub forum

It will be because you've flashed a new kernel on there to root it (I assume that's how you rooted it, because of your current issue).
Have a look at the xda bookmarks in my sig and find the official firmware for your device and flash that. A factory reset will just erase all the data, but not reset your firmware. Be aware also that if it's a branded release that you're expecting then you'll need the branded firmware (also in the bookmarks).
You Should download rom and install via Odin
Just as everyone else says, it might be better to flash using Odin, or CWM. If your phone is like mine, it might be a while untill you get your update. I bought mine through my carrier, Telenor, and the only update I still have as an option is GB 2.3.4.
Good thing about flashing is you can always revert to the stock ROM you had using Nandroid backup, and even flash official stock ROM which you can find in I9100 forums here on XDA.
Just follow the search... .
