Samsung Galaxy S2 I777 (AT&T) on Straight Talk - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought a nokia e71 from straight talk and i have a galaxy s2 i777 from at&t that i have rooted and unlocked to work on straight talk. Messaging and data works fully, however, when i call or receive calls, i can answer but then no voice can be heard from either side of the line. i have tried multiple roms and multiple APN settings. i have researched this for over a week and there is very little info on this process. ik plenty people do it so i figured a thread with a list of full instructions would b extreamly helpfull. But first i have to have a gs2 that works perfectly to share the knowledge. sooo, can anyone please help me with this problem i spent alot of money trying to get me a nice phone that i can afford the monthly bills.

Such a thing does not exist. If you have an I9100, you did not get it from AT&T. If you got it from AT&T, it's not an I9100.

If you tried multiple ROMs, given what I pointed out above, chances are very good that you were probably flashing ROMs not meant for your phone.
What is your exact phone model? It's on the label under your battery.

Wow. I just realized I put the wrong model on there. It's the I777. My bad. I'll try to edit that and get it fixed. But yes all Roms were for I777

There is a lot of cross compatibility between the I777 and the I9100, but you still should probably be looking for your answers in the I777 forum.

[Q] Questions for USA buyers

What CSCs are you generally getting from resellers? Latest European?
Anyone buy from NewEgg? (30 day exchange for issue laden device)
What are the pitfalls if any with using International Versions on ATT. I can see the advantages.
Flashing methods seem to be the same from what I am reading. Even A TiBu restore may work from a saved folder from the Captivate. Have not read of any differences there in apps or TiBu.
VPN settings work?
Been looking to get this handset but not sure about about a few processes. I am guessing MobileTech can unbrick one of these should I have an issue as they did one of my Captivates. I have not read of any US repair support expected.
USA Buyer
I have a SGII here in US, bought from onthegosolutions.com, works well on AT&T sim card. No setup issues, nothing to complain about but the problems with the native email app and activesync exchange server, that is supposed to be fixed in KE7 if I can ever get it.
The phone is the standard EU version XWKE2
I got mine from Amazon and the CSC was from Chile. Flashed the generic European ROM soon after to update the build to KE7. Everything has been working fine before and after flashing and rooting.
THanks for the replies. Being a "noob" to non branded Android Galaxy (always bought Nokia before and had to set up VPN was the only difference.
The two branded Captivates which were complete turds initially have been very nicely polished by developers. (hence my support of donations to them and this site.) I believe in supporting the helpful developers with my wallet for ROMS and paid Apps.
I don't use either Exchange or the stock Email app. I like Gmail and K9. I will root for TiBi and root Explorer. Probably run Cog at first since DG was a force on the SGS I and still is. When I get comfortable with the flashing processes I will try other ROMs
I guess most processes are similar to the S1. I did notice two rooting methods. I even read somewhere SuperOneclick may work.
OF hundreds of flashes I bricked once (recently) but $50 late MobileTech and the JTAG had me like new. Small price to pay to save a few hundred dollar phone. IM guessing Josh cna do the same with the SGS II.
Does anyone know when it will be available for AT&T?
I bought mine from New Egg and received it Thursday and I must say it is a great phone. Mine came with KE2. I just flashed Cognition on it a couple of hours ago and its even smoother and faster.
I read on Android Central the other day that Samsung was having issues with the carriers in the US on getting them to pick up this phone. I don't know why since its an awesome phone and they already have phones on all the major carriers. I'm glad I bought it outright instead of waiting for ATT to officially carry it.

The source of all those stories was a Korean writer with no facts talking out of his ass. A dev just found AT&T LTE code in the 2.3.4 leak along with PNG logos unique to their network.
Here's a link to the story that started it all. You judge if its credible.

Yeah IM over Carrier branded handsets. I was glad ATT never carried the N82/N95/N97 Nokias...... I could not care if ATT never gets the SGS 2. Probably get an SGS 3 instead to compete with ifad 5
Bought one here from the Market place with KE7....Hasn't arrived yet.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I727R

Hey guys,
So I recently switched from an iPhone 4 to this beast of a phone and was wondering weather the MODS for the different models would work on mine since I cant seem to find MODS for my model
Any responses to help me out would be greatly appreciated !
Cheers

The Skyrocket is a completely different phone from the Galaxy S2. The forums you are looking for are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1399
I'm guessing you've gotten frustrated over the sllooww development going on in the skyrocket forums. You're best bet is to check out the tmobile sgsii.
Cheer up. You guys just got Red Sonya rom. That brings the total up to at least 4 I think. It might hit double digits by the new year........maybe

They're trying to push LTE.
LTE's bad reputation for battery life and phone size is likely one of the reasons they're so aggressively discounting it to try and get it to move.
Unlike Verizon, AT&T customers can still get decent phones without LTE.

[Q] - Looking to upgrade from my HTC HD2/Leo

Hey guys, I got t-mobile and it's time to upgrade. Now I already have an HD2 and loved it since launch but I think it's time to move on, and this seems to be the most updated phone they are offering. So how is it?
Does this phone have any os options like the leo or anything neat about it?
About os options we have boot2geko(very pre-alpha),blacktrack 5,android ofcourse(ics and gb)

Okay so I have to give up all the openess of the Leo then? Which I guess is fine, I only really used android. Was fun to test all the other ones and see them work.
If you are into development then go for galaxy nexus
But if you want the beast then buy sgs2
But make sure you are buying i9100 and not other i9100G or i777 or some other
You can also wait for sgs3 or other new phones

I've had the Leo since launch, I am kind of tired of it. It's showing it's age lately with newer stuff and it's starting to have hardware issues from massive use. Why that model number?
I "wanted" one of those samsung notes but tmob doesn't get them.

If he plans on staying with T-Mobile USA as his carrier, than if he gets the I9100, he will only be able to get Edge data speeds on T-Mobile's network.
OP, you should probably be aware of that. This is the reason T-Mobile USA has their own variant of the Galaxy S II, which is the SGH-T989. (which, incidentally, has a separate forum)
I switched from HD2 to SGS2 and i love it... My Sgs2 run perfect only what i miss are the many customs roms... But indie and rgui make perfect roms...

Yes I plan to stay with them because as it is I pay I think 60ish a month for unlimited everything. So I am happy with that setup. I still laugh when verizon trys to sell me because we get a discount with them, for the same deal on there network it's 130 dollars a month after the discount. WTF.
Yes being stuck on just edge would kill me, I use my phone for skype A LOT.

If you don't want to be stuck on edge, then you DON'T want this phone. (GT-I9100) This phone simply doesn't have the hardware to get the right frequencies to get a faster mobile data connection on T-Mobile USA's network. You are probably looking at getting the T-Mobile USA Galaxy S II variant. (SGH-T989)
While many general questions about the phone may apply to both models, you really should be asking your questions in the SGH-T989 forum. I linked it above.
EDIT to add: You may ask why I'm referring you to that forum... well, the hardware on the two phones are COMPLETELY different. They receive different frequencies, and they have different SoC/chipset/GPU. So firmwares, kernels, rooting methods - all different.
Since yesterday I switched too, from HTC HD2 to SGSII.I bought the ceramic white version of GT-I9100 and it looks awesome,I`m very happy with it.The HD2 is still working fine(it has hundreds of flashes I guess..haha),but its getting old.Now I coming with a question, where I can find a tutorial of rooting, installing custom ROMS procedure for SGSII.The HD2 forums has tutorials to start from zero.

Check the stickies in the General section. There are tons of links in a roll up sticky post.
I think you shouldn't buy the T-mo variant as there is a lot less development on those variants as most of the devs have the international variant which is the I9100.
But then again that's what I think.
Make you'r decision carefully.

But the dude said he is staying with T-Mobile. So AGAIN, if he buys the I9100, he will be stuck with Edge speeds on T-Mobile. Which he also said he doesn't want. So if he wants a Galaxy S II that works with high speed on T-Mobile USA's network, he HAS to get the T-Mobile USA variant.
Edit to add: OR I've heard he could get an unlocked AT&T Galaxy S II Skyrocket and flash T-Mobile's modems to it. But why the heck would you want to do that? Those two phones are essentially the same (hardware-wise) anyways. And it's still not the I9100.
I completely get you'r point, but if he is a flashaholic then going for the T-Mo one wouldn't be a very good choice.
Perhaps not. But it's up to him. We can only give him the facts.

I do not recommend you sgs2. I want to sell mine and buy galaxy nexus instead. For sgs2 there isn't fully working aosp ROM and it seems it never will be. I think pure Android nexuses are best choice and not by touchwiz destroyed phones like sgs2. It's my personnal opinion, someone may have different

[Q] How to get i777 working in Korea

I have an ATT GS2 running cm9 and I would like to be able to use it for the year I will be in Korea.
Is it possible to simply flash a korean modem and have it work here? (does that question even make sense?) Or am I SOL because I don't have the international version?
All I want is to be able to stick in a korean sim card (from South Korean Telecom) and have it work, if I am misinformed or simply uninformed about the steps needed to make that work please let me know.
I've been a lurker for awhile and this is the first problem I've had where I actually have needed to post. Any replies are sincerely appreciated
PS: I know I am a n00b and n00bs creating threads is like the worst thing ever, but I searched the forums for a good long while before posting. I also posted this question in the i9100 forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28207590#post28207590), but nobody replied.

My phone is unlocked and I put an SKT sim in it today and although it did not come up with a sim rejected message there was no cell service. I have heard about the modem that is flashed on your phone affecting cell service, so do you think I should find a korean modem and flash it on my phone? If not what can I do?

This is not an area that I know very much about, but I can give you some things to look into. First, as far as I know, you can only use an AT&T modem on the I777. There are a few options posted in the development forum, but they all work with the frequencies available on AT&T towers. I know the I777 is used in India, and a few other countries successfully, but I don't know about Korea. You have to look at what frequency your cell service is on, compared to the frequencies availabe on this phone. I'm guessing that you have a mis-match, but you'll have to do the research. So your original statement is probably true, that you would need the international version of the phone.
Edit: Did some looking around. You still need to check the frequency issue, but the main issue is that the SK sim card is locked, and you have to complete the following, which I grabbed from another forum:
For those of you who may not know, the rule currently is that every phone model that is not sold in Korea must be cleared by Korean Communications. They have an updated list of all models that have gone through testing and have been cleared so far (the N900 was already tested by someone else so I did not have to get recertification). The only requirement for me was to have the IMEI number registered with SK (this applies to KTF and LGT as well).
Just to summarize:
1) Make sure your phone is unlocked (not even a step really, common sense).
2) Check to see if your phone model has been tested by the KCC (optional step really as the list is very long and even some very niche phones have been tested already, if your phone is a model people have heard of, like you can just say the model name and 1 out of 10 people have heard of it, it'll have been tested).
3) Take it to your local branch office (SK/Tworld, KT/Qook Show, LG/uPlus) and make sure it is a branch office, not simply a retail outlet. The retail outlets are called "daeri-jeom" and the main offices are called "ji-jeom". You want to go to a "ji-jeom". There is usually 1 main "ji-jeom" per city.
4) Ask them to register your IMEI # and either purchase a SIM card or pop in your existing SIM car if you are a customer.
If you have an obscure phone that happens to have not been tested yet, there is an added step in the process that will take about 10 days and requires some paperwork but I won't comment on it as I don't have any first-hand experience going through that process.

And, in case any of you are wondering why I would take the time to do this. I have a very good firend, actually the daughter of a very good friend, who is from the small town I live in, and who is currently teaching English in Korea. I know she would probably not even know how to search for the correct answer. So... this is for Lily.
Thank you so much! As you may have guessed, I am just starting out as an English teacher here in Korea, and I will be sure to pass on this information to all my other teachers who would like to use phones here.

Unlock AT&T Galaxy Note I717

Don't spend your money, first try this and be nice.
Here is just a confirmation/help for those who are trying to unlock their AT&T Note i717 for free. I searched the internet for hours looking for info on how to do this and I don't really give up easy. As I looked and looked many threads said to call AT&T or that they had called AT&T.
So my phone came today and I didn't have any info on unlocking the Note. I do not live in the U.S. I live in the Dominican Republic. My phone arrived locked to AT&T and not rooted. My first business was to unlock it to use it as I do my other phones.
So I decided to call AT&T with my magic jack. He asked me for my AT&T phone number but I didn't have one. I gave him my old number when I was living there but he couldn't find the number. He asked me when did I buy the phone, I told him that it was given to me for my birthday next week and that I needed to use the phone here in this country. So he asked for the IMEI number and he put me on hold for about less than a minute and he came back to the phone with the unlock code and I copied it down and entered it in the phone when we hung up and it worked. It took less than 5 minutes for the complete call and there was no hesitation on his part.
Thanks XDA
