Fixing mobile data (3g) after installing Cyanogenmod 7 (nightly)
Hello all. I'm writing this as a long-time lurker and custom ROM / kernel user, who has been helped along greatly by this forum.
I had a long-standing issue that I couldn't find any clarity on: my mobile data access didn't work after switching to custom Roms/Kernels from LG's original Froyo Rom.
After months of thinking it was just an odd bug, and something to live with (since I rarely use data), I decided to look a little deeper into the problem. I found it difficult to even find information on the problem - there's a lot of bad information, and a lot of hard-to-read information from friendly, but not perfectly fluent English speakers.
In short, I'm hoping that others who are struggling with this issue will find this post with some Googling, and won't have to be as confused as I was.
After doing the following, I have everything working perfectly and here's how I did it:
1) I knew that the right baseband (under About Phone, in Settings) had something to do with mobile connections, including 3g data authentication and transfer. I found that v10 (and older) basebands are considered the 'old' baseband, while v20 basebands are considered 'new' basebands.
2) Cyanogenmod often reports the baseband incorrectly, so finding out what baseband you're on is unreliable through the About Phone menu, if you're already on CM7.
3) There are some scary sounding techniques to update your baseband (one involves using a poorly documented program called 'LGMDP-v1.5.exe'). These techniques can apparently brick your phone, so I avoided them. I might be wrong on some of the details here, so let me know!
4) I instead obtained the latest baseband by simply letting the LG update software (in my case from LG.ca) update my phone to Android 2.3. I noticed that I now had baseband v20. My mobile data worked!
5) I then re-rooted the phone, using SuperOneClick.
6) Installed the latest CM7 nightly. Mobile data no longer worked
6.5) I should mention, I tried other ROM/Kernel combinations and ended up having crashes and hangs on boot - thankfully I could use 'adb reboot recovery' to get back to Clockwork Recovery, when even holding various keys on reboot to do this didn't work).
7) Installed the wonderful ta-gb 1.1 kernel (thanks to all of the devs who worked on this and others like it).
8) And lastly (and possibly most importantly) I came across this:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...gingerbread/prebuilt/common/etc/apns-conf.xml
It's a list of APN information, which corresponds to different carriers, and appears to be necessary for mobile data connections. My carrier (Koodo) was not listed here, and therefore appears to not be included in even the latest Cyanogenmod 7 (as of Feb 2012).
9) This led me to find this: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/wiki/APNlist
Which happened to include the APN information for my carrier that I needed to put in, under Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
Inputting that information made my 3g connection start up instantly. I was able to check that things looked good by typing *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer, and looking under Phone Information.
Maybe you're a veteran CM7 user, and think this is obvious newb stuff, but I want to leave this thread here for any other users who were stuck as long as I was.
If you fixed this issue with a different method, please share what you did here. If you're a ROM/Kernel dev with more insight on anything that I covered, please comment.
Cheers.

Are you doing this on v20 baseband?
I also have trouble with data on nightly's. I know DJ posted on the cyanogen forum today, saying Adam got a new Sim (128k, the ones causing problems) for testing. There should be a fix soon, fixing this problem.

Yes. Is your carrier's APN information available to try all that I wrote above?

You should be able to get all your apn information from your carrier provider even if cyanogenmod doesnt have it.
Apn is nothing to do with being a veteran cm user or that, you used to always have to enter that kind of stuff in the old phones when you used g and 3g, in my case my carrier would sms me the settigs automatically, such as it still does for my nokia e63

Good to know!

I have installed the nightlyfoure v3.8 and I am not getting 3g.I am getting edge connection. When I activate 3g it shows I have only gprs. I live in a place where 3g is available and I have v20g baseband.

Can you also tell us the procedure to edit/overwrite the original apns-config.xml if you did so? Thank you dude

I didn't edit 'apns-conf.xml', but I did find my carrier information in the link I posted in step 9) and typed it in manually into Access Point Names.
I suppose you could edit the apns-conf.xml file either in the source code, and compile CM7 yourself (time consuming). Or you could use the adb program that comes with the Android developer kit, and shell into the rooted phone (to see it, do: adb shell; cd /etc; ls). You could then probably edit it in place (might be risky), or pull the file, edit it, and then push it back with various adb commands that you can google
The code.google.com link I posted above might be the best way to request your APN details get added to the file in the next CM7 release.

Perfect, thanks but wait wait wait! You also faced the "not able to save APNs" problem? Also, I've just found out that my carrier (Vodafone IT) is listed among other carriers in APNlist you've linked... what's the deal?
(please be patient with me dude, I might seem really dumb but... I'm learning as I go )

My provider's APN is already added.
But sometimes, it fails to connect to DATA let it be 2G/3G.
Reboot solves it....

Thank you bambu85 I was stuck in the same situation for the longest time. I am using oxygen mod and your post helped me greatly. Data is now working! Sure the information might already be there but for us koodoers it's not so easy to decipher. Thanks

[Q] Baseband understanding

My basic understanding is that the baseband is like the firmware that makes the radio in your phone work (calls, mobile internet, wifi etc) right? But that is where my knowledge ends.
Just recently the mobile internet on my streak stopped working. The indicator for mobile internet still shows in the notification bar but any attempts to reach a web site or other connection just times out and fails. Wifi still works perfectly. It's not an issue with the carrier as I have never had to set anything up it has just worked out of the box each time I have updated anything. In any case for info my network is 3uk.
Now I have dropped this phone a few times, admittedly this could be what has caused the damage. On the other hand something might have become corrupted.
So assuming something might have got corrupted I'm thinking it could be the baseband but as I don't know much about them I'm not sure.
I have used QDL tool many times and had various versions of streakdroid on my streak. I have just about mastered the recover/restore/install procedure however in my ignorance you might say I have not learned much about basebands. I always try to learn the things I need as I go along and till now have not had to worry.
Here's the dumb questions I need answers to:
Do basebands come with each build of android? I mean rom downloads either official or streakdroid. I got the impression they did but not sure. I normally use streakdroid since v1.5.1
If they don't come with the roms where can I download an up to date baseband to see if it will fix my problem?
So far I have used QDL tool using the guide on streakdroid. Following that I install streakmod then use that to install streakdroid 1.9.0
Should I try installing any other rom?
Any other suggestions or tips of how I could get my mobile internet working?
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Have you looked at your APN settings?
Select Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names
(might not be the exact name of the menus) but i know its under Wireless & Networks. Might need to reset the APN to default or search and reselect it.
Hi Thanks for the reply.
Yes I have tried to do the search to reselect it but it just searches for a long time as if its hung. Reset to default didn't change anything. (3 three.co.uk stayed putt)
Also I have completely reset my phone to factory default and back to latest streakdroid a few times. In the past I've not had to touch APN it just works after installing whatever rom.
I think I've already tried the most obvious things.
Would flashing the latest baseband help? Assuming it doesn't already come with the latest streakdroid. If it does then its looking like I am screwed unless there is anything else I could look at??
HELP!
Have you tried your USIM in another phone. 3 may have blocked your Internet access as you are using a non-3 phone.
What does your about screen say for your baseband version and stuff?
Baseband version
GAUSB1A130500-EU
Regarding "non-3 phone" I hope thats not the case. I've never had an actual "3 phone" I always use unlocked phone's. Prior to this one an omnia and prior to that a k850i neither of which are 3 phones. I will try the sim in another phone see what happens now. Let you know.
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO UPDATE TO THE BELOW BASEBAND FOR 1.5.1+
Baseband File Download:
Primary Download Site: http://downloads.streakdroid.com/djsteve/amss.mbn
Mirror 1: http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/amss.mbn
I guess u missed this part when flashing 1.9. The recommended baseband for 1.9 is 318.
Delltech you are right I did overlook that. However going back to your last point that 3 may have blocked my internet access. I think your right!! I just tried my sim in another phone and that can't connect to the internet.
Anything I can do if they have blocked my internet??
Call them and speak to tech support, they've got a bunch of cool techies who'll sort it out right away.
Will do.... Thanks!

[Q] WPA + AES = problem ?

Hi everyone.
I have recently upgraded my SGA from original 2.2.1 to 2.3.3 XXKPE and i have detected an issue when i try to use the WPA + AES combination. The phone detects the wifi but it tries to validate the password a few times and then it is disconnected...
When i tried to connect with the older firmware (Froyo 2.2.1) i could connect the first time but when i lost the connectivity my wifi changed it's state to error and the only way to reconnect was restarting the phone.
No issue detected with WEP or WPA + TKIP.
Anyone else has the same problem? If not, can you tell me your firmware version?
Many thanks in advance
Same situation: S5830 + ASUS WL500W works only with WPA TKIP. But with TKIP speed is limited to 54mbps. Android OS 2.3.4
Just picked up a Samsung Galaxy Ace running stock Android 2.3.4 (baseband S5830LUBKP7, kernel 2.6.35.7-perf-CL366939 [email protected] #1), and seem to be having this same problem.
My home wifi is set to WPA2 Personal+AES, and when the correct passphrase is entered, the Ace just continuously cycles through "Connecting... Disconnected", over and over.
If I drop back to WPA Personal+AES, I get the exact same thing. *However*, if I drop to WPA Personal+TKIP, the phone connects immediately.
I really don't want to use TKIP, as it has known exploits. Is there a known FOTA update for a US-market, unbranded Galaxy Ace that fixes this, or is there any known workaround except "don't use AES"?
try DDKQ6
after flashing DDQK6, reboot phone and enter PIN
then reboot again but in recovery and install CWM5
reboot and wipe data/cache/dalvik and reboot

Thanks for the info. I'm new to flashing phones, would kinda like to stay stock if possible, since this is my wife's phone, not my own. Am I correct in thinking DDQK6 is an Indian firmware? If so, what would differ from US-market firmware, and would I potentially lose any features or cause any unusual behavior by switching to it?

Just update it over the air from setting -> about/phone -> update.
Make sure you have backed up the data like contacts and sms.
Hey, hey!! Problem with wifi? I'm an expert on this But I came with bad news, though.
What I found out:
There's indeed a bug that prevents us from connecting to this kind of wireless (eduroam, in my case). Everything seems to come from a buggy version of wpa_supplicant, everything goes well but then, in the second phase, it seems to "forget" the password or something (I'm not an expert, sorry, can't explain any better) I've been trying to change it, but no luck.
I've tried most of the stock firmwares, and custom roms as well. No luck, still the same bug.
There's an app that claims to fix the problem. wifi ace if I remember well (advanced config editor). But it didn't fix anything for me. You may want to give it a try.
I was expecting for samsung to fix it, but I've lost my faith on it. Neither google seems to be doing anything, as the bug remains on android 4.0.
I can provide you with some links, in case you want to read more about. And please, let me know if you find something.

No need to be sorry. You're replying to a thread that's current, in that I replied to it with my own problem. (And I did so because it was the only thread that came up in the Ace forum on a search for AES, which seems to be specific to the problem. Didn't seem to make sense to start a new thread when this one covers the same topic.)

[Q] Root will me wifi, Now: Stuck installing ClockworkMod Recovery to install new ROM

Hello everyone,
first of all, I am new on this Android world, so, any basic question I post, I ask for understanding in advance.
Trying to root my Viewpad 7 (Froyo 2.2), I come across to GingerBreak, I run it and it sucessfully root but it killed my Wifi (that's all connectivity I used, I have no mobile data plan)
as I wanted also to try new rooms, and flash a new one seems to be a only solution for the wifi problem (I have try factory settings without success). I come across Rom manager,
I download and install ROM_Manager_Premium_v4.3.2.3.apk from SD
and download CleanViewpad7_signed_v1.0.zip to my sd card
If I try to flash ClockworkMod Recovery from ROM manager, i get:
"Error while downloading from the server. Please make sure you have a stable internet conection ..." but that's no possible as I have no WIFI in my viewPad7 after root!
If I try to Install ROM from SD card (from Rom manager), the device restore in "Recovery mode" of "Andoid system recovery <3e>"; and it brakes with message "E:signature verification failed".
I have donwload it from several servers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168562), and all give the same error mesaage
I try to search for manual mode to install clockwork (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755379) but I can not find a way to go.
"wipe data/factory reset" inicializate the device, but it doesn't help with the wifi. it keet saying scaning->disconected->scanning->disconected ... (and of course, my wifi conection is set to remember with the password memorized)
In the cofig menu, i can see:
baseband: PR3.7_128
Kernel Apps_2.6.32.9
Build 4027_3_16R
In the FTM mode:
SWver=3.16R
Model:FM6-0001
HWVer:106
what can I do?, I just have a 7inch no apps-no connection beautifull "thing"
More: I have try two other Rooms:
EUViewpadV1.4.zip
Viewpad7 Stock EU 2.2 +rooted+CWM.zip
nothing works, signature verification failed

Okay, you willl be fine - just need to flash & restore it first to factory/stock ROM first, then root it and go from there - here are the steps that I would suggest:
First, save anything important on your mSD card if you need to, perhaps to a USB drive and/or computer's hard drive.
Next, use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260463 to download - for the stock ROMs from Viewsonic.
The newest one is for newer ITE hardware VPAD7 (and, I believe yours is NOT if you could get CleanViewpad v1.0 to boot up & activate the screen - and a number of users are having trouble with wifi ....) To override that signature verification error message that you get, look into CWM (I'm using v3.0.2.8) under Apply update from .zip file on SD card, and there's a "toggle signature verification" switch - change it and trying applying the zip file again to flash - it should work, as I recall. Before that, make sure you wipe system/cache/dalvik & reset data, etc. for a clean(er) new installation.
FM6-316Q-*.nb0 should work with earlier, non-ITE Vpad7 and so should FM6-3310-*.nb0, whereas the FM6-3350-*.nb0 should be for newer ITE devices with either HWver 107 and/or (some) HWver 106.
To flash it, you CANNOT use CWM but must download the SUTL3 (v1.7.9 worked for me) - read & following the onscreen warnings/directions and it should be finished in less than 10 minutes (have the Vpad7 fully charged first & do NOT need to have the mSD card installed)
When it's finished, reinstall the mSD card, take a deep breath & reboot/restart, and you should be up & running with the stock ROM in a few minutes - if so, check your wifi connectivity first before going any further. Start with 316Q ROM first and if it's good, you might want to move up to 3310 next (it's newer) & recheck wifi connectivity. STOP then, as yours is non-ITE and the 3350 will NOT work. You can then flash CWM and/or root it - with SOC or GB methods, etc. etc. which you're familiar with.
I had no problems with wifi connectivity and/or 3G data (prepaid GSM 3G coverage) running the Froyo Enhanced custom ROM (non-OC version since I have ITE hardware) OS 2.2 - However, I'm running stock ROM OS 2.2.2 rooted and wifi is perfect for me. (I'm written up a quck tip/guide also - in case you didn't come across it while searching for answers) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264647
Lastly, TJ_Style's FM6 ROM w overclocked kernel should work for you as well, it's OS 2.2 but I patched the boot.img with my saved newer 2.2.2 ITE kernel and got it working too, and, no issues with wifi access at all.
In short, check & change your Signature Verification options under CWM and try again, and, if not - restore by reflashing with SUTL3 a factory *.nb0 file, then - proceed from there.
Good luck, have a bit of patience - it's both fun & exciting, challenging & disappointment often followed by the joy of luck & success. Let us know how it go & write down any error message(s) so we can help figure it out together - plenty of "newbies" been around but still stranded at times.
Regards -
Thanks, SUTL3_v1.7.9 and FM6-3310-0-5029-A02.nb0 works like a charm, easy and bring back my ViewPad7 to work,
for anybodies info, that change my ViewPad to:
Android version : 2.2.2 (from 2.2)
Baseband version PR3.7_128 (same)
Kernel Version Apps_2.6.32.9 (same)
Build Number 5029_3_310 (from 4027_3_16R)
I got encouraged, and I try FM6-3350-0-1008-A01.nb0, that gives me:
Android version : 2.2.2 (from 2.2)
Baseband version PR3.7_128 (same)
Kernel Version Apps_2.6.32.9 (same)
Build Number 1008_3_350 (from 4027_3_16R)
Swype included !! (seems a little odd and disordered the configuration process, so skip it)
what means ITI / non-ITI ?
languajes: both nb0 are English/Spanish/French only
now I will start with rooting and so, I will let you know
once more, many thanks.
Wonderful, we are all glad to know that you had success. Is your wifi working once again with either stock unrooted ROM?
Once rooted & CWM reinstalled, do a backup first to save those *.img files, etc. so that you can easily restore/go back later on if necessary.
As I said, check out Enhanced Froyo and TJ_Style's FM6 custom ROMs, both of them should work nicely for you - including wifi (I believe, as least on mine - both solid signals in both G and N routers, WEP & WPA-2 modes. (Also, try open or unsecured mode)
Happy flashing ....
YES !!, wifi is working back to normal. At least sometimes (I have need to re-flash few time already, it has stoped working few times more, and not becouse of rooting, just installing apps from market)
I have also encoutered the next problem : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XuccAxXY_8
and that shouldn't be normal behaviour?, isn't it ?
try with diferent room or return to viewsonic ?
by the way, what ITE means ?
thanks once more

I have also encoutered the next problem : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XuccAxXY_8
and that shouldn't be normal behaviour?, isn't it ?
try with diferent room or return to viewsonic ?
by the way, what ITE means ?

ITE refers to Panjit Touchscreen (Multi-Touch Resistive) used on newer Vpad7 built & shippped vs. older hardwares used on earlier models.
On that subject, I've looked at a # of youtube video reviews & posting about the device's orientation/rotation issues, and it seemed to me that it prefer to be in a landscape mode. But, there are times where we wanted to have a choice, turn it 90 degree for a vertical or straight up - not so sure it's 99% hardware problem - rather, problem caused by a mix of Android codes & Apps used. Some were defective but that's a production & quality control issue, so, anyway.
I'm not sure after seeing at your YT video what the problem is, please describe & I will have another look with my thoughts on it.
Does it happen with the stock/factory ROM or only with the ROM being runned now - I would flash a different ROM to compare the results.
Sending it back to Viewsonic is an option but you will be without its use for 2 to 4 weeks (usual timeframe, could be longer) & deal with packing, insuring, shipping & waiting - but, if it's "bad" - get authorization & exchange it or repaired.
Regards !
Bad news, as later day, wifi come alive, it went down sometimes, and as I was trying application I flash the three diferent factory rooms few times. What I didn't notice is that the wifo was disconecting more and more often: now it does connect at all.
As said, I have try the three diferent ROM in viewsonic, and also an app called FixMyWifi, nothing helps, wife is all the time "Connecting..."->"Disconected"->"Searching"->and so on
about the strange behiviour of the screen, the matter is that as soon as using two fingers, the right one, can not be in lower position than the left one. So forgot about plenty of games, drawinf with two fingers, dificulto for rotating maps (when the rotation of finger goes beyond 90 degres)
And one of the reasons I bought it is my little boy, explain that to a children of four years..., in deed he found it as "that does work well, the tank does not follow my fingers"
so, as a multitouch is basically pointless if you have to care your right finger does not go bellow your left one ...
Anything to do with the Wifi ?
rooting may help in some way?, and some terminal comands?
I am willing to try, I am just in the point before return it as faulty device.
Many thanks for all the help given.

Thanks for clarifying and I looked at the YT video again - perhaps you would be better off getting Viewsonic for authorization to return for repair or exchange it. On my device, the screen is responsive 98% of the time but I do realize that sometimes, when we're playing Angry Birds, that it too doesn't always readily respond to commands or launch the bird shots .... Not a big deal for games, it will usually get going again - worst case, use the Go Back key & restart the level - I figure that it could be a combination of the Froyo or Android codes written for the OS and/or along with the Angry Birds gaming itself.
Afterall, my "regular" & 2 years old smartphone, HTC Eris running a nearly identical CPU & configuration is running custom rooted GingerBread ROM - and, is must better & responsive in overclocked mode. The Vpad7 will not, I feel, be running Honeycomb but let's hope that some of the veteran xda developers will soon release a working GingerBread ROM - perhaps it will fix many of the issues across the field, so to speak. (or, if Viewsonic will release it as official update .... wishful thinking, huh - but !)
On the wifi issues, have you tried doing the SuperOneClick and/or GingerBreak apk to root, and then flash TJ_Style's custom FM6 ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264647 - this OC version with WiFi fix might work for you without any mods (patching or zip flashing the 2.2.2 boot.img)
On wifi configuration itself, is this happening with different routers - "older" G mode or newer N (faster) routers, unsecured or open network or secured (WEP, WPA or WPA2, etc.) - any issues on the host computer/router's firewall blocking ? Can you log in at a public hotspot or cafe like Starbuck ?
Go into Settings > Wireless & network settings > Wi-Fi settings > and, then, tap the Home key (the bottom of 4 keys on the device - held in landscape mode) and you should see "Scan" & "Advanced" - does it pickup a decent signal ? Click "Advanced" & look at your "Wi-Fi sleep policy" - mine is checked for "When screen turn off" - tried "Never" or "Never when plugged in" - any difference ? If you get this far, you might want to try to set up & Use "static IP" instead of using dynamic ip addressing that these devices usually count on .... it's a bit of work, but might help to "zoom" into your own router only.
I use "Wifi Analyzer" v2.5.13 from Kevin Yuan (Google Market) to help scan the spectrum for signals and possible interference, which sometimes do happen - and moved 1 of our 2 cable broadband router to a different channel so that all of our wireless (up to 15 of them, yes) devices around the house can easily connect to the hotspots. (Reading posts @ other forum sites & ran my inSSIDer v2.0 from Dell laptop for baseline, it scanned 17 active APN's with varying signal strengths, our Sony W995 picked up only 6 signals with 3 good ones, the HTC Eris picked up 6 signals also with 3 good ones, and the Vpad7 only 3 signals, 2 of them from our own indoor G & N routers plus 1 from neighbors that's marginal. It's safe to assume that our device's internal radio receiver or Baseband isn't very good with reception to begin with - you might need to flash a different "build" like mine to give it a try - and try switching your wifi channel.)
Just some of my thoughts on the wifi problem as I do run into signal problems myself every so often installing a new device or configure a guest's new gadget at home. If all else failed and along with the touchscreen problem, then I would say get it fixed via repair or exchange from Viewsonic, and then .... (a few weeks later, upon its return to you - happy rooting & flashing, etc.)

about the wifi issue, I have try all the steps you mention before, nothing helps with my router (deliver by the telephone company). The only thing that works, sometimes, s turning off the router for several seconds, then it connect again. As absurd it sounds, it looks like the viewpad doesn't disconnect from the router even as turned off, so the router doesn't allow to negociated again a conection (and it keeps it in connected device while the viewpad is reseting or turned off)
I have try connecting a Linksys Wi-fi and connecting trought it : WORKS GREAT.
Trying in different locations, some of them same problem as the router, others works perfectly.
Solved for home with second wifi-point, I see myself one day asking Starbuchs guy to reset their router...

Factory firmware + setup & not registered on network

Hi!
I have this common problem: not registered on network.
Wifi other stuff ok, simcard ok, phone is independent.
I cant start phonecalls after a while, or the connection is lost while a call.
Same issue before and after the fw update, current is: 4.1.2
Can u give me hints what to do?
I already did a factory reset either.
Maybe a factory firmware could help.
Thanks

i wouldnt like to download some mess. can u please give me a link?
change the modem u mean the hardware?
No,modem is software. There's several threads on this forum, search "gti9100 modems" (edit:stumbled across it while browsing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640812 ) It might be that you need to manually add your APN settings. If you go into settings-more-mobile networks-network operators is your networks name there and checked?

thanks for the help, i better read after. meanwhile happens that wifi connection is lost but i dont recognise it just have to turn the wifi off and on.
if i turn on flight mode than off the not registered **** is gone either.
what to do in this case?
If the WiFi connection keeps dropping, try using a static IP in the connection settings rather than DHCP. If that doesn't work, try flashing a different kernel (drivers could be messed up, and they're in the kernel, not the modem).
Re: trying different modems, start with the modems bundled with stock roms released by your carrier, then try modems bundled with stock roms released by other carriers in your country if those don't work. This should save you some time rather than just flashing modems from other carriers in other parts of the world (you only do that if trying the modems from your carrier/other carriers in your country don't work).

the static ip wouldnt work for me, cause i use different network classes at home and at my work.
im trully sorry but i dont know how to try different modem. could you please advise in a few words?
is there a topic how to try a different kernel either?
thanks a lot
If your phone is rooted, you can flash modems quickly/easily in CWRecovery. Do a search (XDA or Google) for 'I9100 modems' & you should get plenty of threads (I don't have any links handy, and if I gave you links I'd have to search to find them just as I've suggested, which you're capable of doing yourself.
If your phone isn't rooted, there are Odin flashable modems, but I very much recommend you root your phone if that's the case & use CWM flashable versions.
Can't offer any other suggestions re: the WiFi issue given you say you've tried factory resets/etc beyond trying some custom kernels (and maybe even other stock roms); using different WiFi networks is problematic for you given you won't be able to look at much on the WiFi modem/router side (like changing settings or updating firmware) given the networks concerned aren't your home network.
Re: exactly how to flash kernels/roms/modems, you really need to do some searching, this stuff has been covered so many times here over the past two years. There's some threads stickied at the top of Q&A and General which should have all the info you need, if not, an XDA search will pull up threads which will have the info you need.
well i wanted to un-brand the phone and i found an article with firmware and modem and another file (kernel i guess) together so i did the steps with odin and the error is gone.
however i had to upgrade 2-3 times cause the fw+modem came with an old 1.xy android what was slow as hell.
anyway thanks for the help
best regards.

[Q] WiFi will not list connections, wifi just scans with no results.

Hello xda!
Long story short I updated my phone and all went well. About a day or two later, my phone randomly disconnected from wifi, and will now no longer show any wifi connections after scanning. I have tried wiping and reinstalling from the recovery. I can't download the exact version of this ROM I was on because the version doesn't exist for download anymore. I, however, could not see how the ROM could be the problem, since wifi was just functioning after the first install. Is there an area I am missing that is not getting reset? It COULD be efc's, but I have my IMEI number listed.
I have the LG Optimous L9 P769 and this is the ROM. As you can tell, our forum isn't exactly a very busy or active forum.
P.S. I was on a v2.x and went to v3.4
Anything that could help, please feel free to comment or ask anything needed!

Seems like it might be kernel related, perhaps... Which variant (carrier) P769 do you have?
