[Q] Prime won't wake up from sleep (different from the Sleep of Death issue) - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I was psyched to avoid the random reboots with the .13 update for the TF201. However, I have a new issue, which I haven't seen mention of in this forum. Overnight, my Prime won't wake up from sleep. It's not the Sleep of Death, because I've got it plugged in all night. (though I do have that too, when not plugged in).
What happens is this: After charging overnight (or several hours), I press the power button, and it doesn't wake up. That's it. Any number of presses, and nothing happens. I have to hold the power for 10 seconds to get a reboot, at which point it works fine, and shows full battery (it was plugged in all night, recall).
If I put it to sleep for short periods, it wakes up fine. But overnight, no wakey.
Has anyone else seen this, and do you know if this is a known issue that Asus is going to address?
Thanks,

I thought this was the sleep of death issue. I have been having this problem since the .13 update. It takes about 10 minutes or less for me on sleep for it to occur, plugged in or not. I had no problems before the update.

This is the sleep of death issue. Gary said if the testing goes well, there should be an update by next week or sooner. I have the same problem as you, weather plugged or not after more than an hour or so in sleep it will not wake up.

I was really lucky, my prime had no problems (only the GPS one)BUT after the last update ive been having the exact same problem as the OP, i guess in order to fix the problems from some transformers prime they created problems for others

I've been having a sleep of death issue with the latest update, .21.
I pretty much always keep my Prime docked in the keyboard. After long periods in sleep (at least 2 hours or so) the Prime will not wake up. This happens both while on the charger and not.
I haven't tried taking it out of the dock overnight, yet. I guess that'll be my next step.
Anybody else having SoD issues in the .21 update?

ehm.., wops, saw this 10 sec after i posted, but yea, me and atleast one more at swedroid got this issue ever sins we updated to .21, :/

I have the same issue since .21. Had it one time now. (Only charged it one time since .21)
It was docked when I charged it.
I hope they fix it in the next update.

Just turned on my phone from overnight and it seems to have no "SoD" you guys are experiencing. I didn't leave it docked though.

Yep. I'm having the damn SoD problem too now. I've had no problems until this! Argh!

I've got SoD after .21 too
For now I've set it to never sleep and wait for next update when the problem fixed.

Me too.

I've been having this since the latest update as well. It happens whether it's on the charger or not. So far I haven't had it out of the dock long enough to know if being docked has anything to do with it, but I do know that removing it from the dock once it happens doesn't clear the issue. However, I did notice that if I go under Settings > ASUS Customized Setting > BATTERY SAVING and uncheck MobileDock Battery saving mode, it doesn't seem to happen. After I did that it didn't happen for about 36 hours, but as soon as I re-checked it to test, it happened the first time it went to sleep. Maybe a coincidence, but prior to that I couldn't make it more than a couple of hours without it happening. Might be worth a try as a work around if you're having this issue.

[Q] Power OFF? -Or just let Screen Sleep?

I just got my TP today-My question to those who have been using it :
Is it better to do a full "power off" when finished using at the end of the day?
OR- should I just let it sleep and take the hit on slight overnight battery drain?
Letting it sleep might help limit wear and tear on power button i would think, but will sleep cause a shortened battery life?
Would love to hear what others think!
I'd like to hear an expert chime in here.
I haven't turned my tablet off since I got it. It's nice to have it laying around the house, ready to rock at any time. I mean, I do the same thing with all of my electronic devices (they are always in sleep mode).
Plus, if I understand things correctly, much of the components of smart phones are shared in tablets... and most people generally don't turn their phones off. I'd assume these devices are designed to be left on all the time.
I'd like to hear from someone to

I like to turn off so it's like a fresh start in the morning
I have had my TF101 since June, my TP will be here at the end of the week (just got UPS tracking from BB ordered on Christmas Eve).
My TF101 has not been turned off ever, in 6 months the only time it gets turned off is when it takes an updated to reboot or in the rare instances I have run it dry without having the ability to plug it in. I charge it every couple of days depending on use and my wife and I just pick it up whenever we need it, never worrying about it being on or not.
I liked to reboot my tf101 every couple of days, idk if it was placebo, but scrolling seemed smoother after reboot and after a couple days it would get sluggish again til I reboot

I am also wondering, is there a way to wake the device up from sleep by touching the screen? I would prefer this rather than having to hold down the power button every time to wake it up-
If the OS cannot do this on it's own, does anyone know of an APP that can add this feature?
My TF is plug in every night (just by habit cause most of the time the battery is at 75%) and in sleep mode.
When it's not charging it barely lose 2% overnight and everything is sync when I wake up.
My advice, let it in sleep mode. Everyone hate looking 2 minutes at a booting screen.
I dunno man but when I powered off my Prime it didn't come back. It's on it's way to NCIX for replacement right now.
Might be good not to test if yours will survive a shut down!

I am backing up londongentleman. Do not turn yours off. Why well my transformer prime had slight browser lag. I shut mine down and it will not come back even trying a hard reset too. When I return mine back to Best Buy I ask the manager in charge of all the tablets and he told me that over half of the Primes they sold have come back with this issue not being able to turning back on. He also told me that Best Buy is pull their Primes till mid January it could be to this issue not sure. So I decided to call Asus. The technician I got hold of said that he has had a lot of call of Primes not power on after being shut down. He told me that they are looking into but it looks like it power regulation on the hardware. I hope this helps.
That sucks. But I imagine you'd want to know if your tablet was defective.
Have you guys tried plugging in the AC power and then holding the button for 15 seconds or so? Sometimes that works.
just tested mines again. it powers on and off just fine. I'd be pissed if I powered down n then it wouldn't cut back on. I usually leave mines on all the time. same with my Ipad. these devices have a great sleep function to where hardly any power drains. I think I read before my Ipad, on a full charge, can last like 30 days with no use in sleep mode. I wonder how long the prime would last considering this has better batery life than my ipad1. reviewers confirmed and I did also. I got about 8 hrs. last night on the prime in normal mode with very heavy usage like games, web surfing etc... plus I still had about 20% battery left before i went to sleep nplugged it in. it hardly had any sleep tine also. mostly constant usage. I've noticed, depending on use, device will drain about 10% or less per hour in balanced or normal mode. of course balanced drains even less but really depends on usage. I want to try out battery savings mode to see how long we can get on this. I started a Performance mode thread here in general for people to report findings or thoughts on the different power modes. like how much battery life you getting on that particular setting or any performance findings.
Slept for 8 hours tablet in power saving mode dropped 1 percent also got 3 emails that night and market pulled down updates so very good sleep battery life

Interesting...thanks man. I was going to call ASUS but didn't... too lazy.
I really hope that whenever I get my new one the kinks have been worked out. It's funny, I was feeling all smug as I didn't really have any major issues with it...then it dies on me.

Just dead, plain and simple. Now the looooong wait for a replacement. At least I got to play around with it for a couple of hours.

I think that's a good idea. whenever going to sleep or done with the prime for the day, put it in battery savings mode. especially if you don't plug up device everynight before going to sleep. it would drain even less through the night in sleep mode.
I left it in balanced and only went down 1% also

I only plug in if battery is under 70 percent, if it's above just use battery saving mode and let it stay in sleep mode over night

I'm just curious- Did you apply all of the Asus updates before doing the full power down? Mine seems to power back up (so far) from a complete shutdown- however:
I received an ASUS update available notification immediately at first power on- I completed the update, and rebooted. Then, I received a second Asus notification that an update to the device firmware was waiting to be installed- and I applied again. (not sure if these were 2 seperate updates, but it seemed this way.
For those who could not get the tablet to power back on: Please let us know if you applied any updates before you experienced the "wont power back on" issue- This would help others try to figure this out if it has to do with the updates or not....

Well, I received one update on the 25th which I applied. I didn't get another before it went down for the count on the same day. Did your second update occur after the 25th?
I've only recievied one update so far. that was on 12/22 when I got the tablet. I applied it immediately. my device powers off n on fine. what's this second update people are speaking of? if I go to about tablet, then check for updates, it doesn't show any new ones available yet. hopefully next update will either be ICS or system update to calibrate/change values for GPS and wifi to work better/stronger. I have no wifi issues and haven't tested GPS yet.

I think if you look at other threads you will see you are not alone.
It is still early but there are many that are having issues with this update.
My theory is that the shutting down is from the battery dying due to increased battery drain while it is sleeping. I am hoping to get a better idea tonight when I leave it to sleep.
Same here. But today I had my Prime shut down for no reason after long sleep, took me longer then usual to start it back up again, battery was not dead, still at 60%.

Not shure that this is the problem because i left mine in sleep it charge overnight, and this morning it was stuck in sleep. I do agree that battery life does seem much more limited than before.
Same Issue Here
Mine is doing the same thing! Never had this issue until the most recent OTA. I even tried a Factory Reset but think that made it worse. I called Asus and they recommended charging it to 100%, turning off Sleep, let it drain all the way down and see if the problem continues. I am guessing this will not work but worth a shot.
fixed
The new .14 update today fixed it.
Installed. 14
Just installed. 14, will see what happens. That was a fast turn around on another OTA!
I have 9.4.2.15-20120221 installed, but I still have the problem.
When I put the tablet to sleep mode, it randomly switch display on (after 3-5 minutes), than sleeps again. After a 30 minutes it suddenly shuted down.
still shutting down
I have the same issue at this point and time. Is there a solution to this problem yet?

Have you updated your Prime to the latest firmware? The latest firmware is 9.4.2.21 for U.S. Prime users.
Have you tried a factory reset? That often helps resolve different software related issues.
I do have the latest firmware installed, the one you are mentioning. But havent tried the factory reset. Will try that know. But what about the applications I bought after I do the factory reset?
So I tried the factory reset and the problem persists. Even if I set Wi-Fi off when tablet is asleep it seems that something related to this is causing the Tablet to shut down!!
It will still happen randomly for no reason. Anyone has any updates on this?

SOD's are common on ASUS devices. It's related to their kernel power management and attached devices in some cases. Mine will do an SOD when it's in deep sleep for an extended amount of time, but since it doesn't deep sleep on the charger, I just leave it be when I'm at work on the charger and everything is fine, or I shut it down. Every rom uses the stock kernel and so far the two devs for custom kernels may not have fixed the issue completely either.

[Q] Battery displays 0% even after full charge

Hello,
I tried searching for this issue but came up with nothing. I have an issue with my new TF201 where the battery shows 0% several times a day even though there is still power. As a result, it tells me to "Connect to charger". I know there is power because I continue using the prime without charging and eventually, the battery usage shows the correct charge at 85% or something. The issue repeats throughout the day.
I am pretty sure this is a software bug but I cannot find a dedicated thread to this issue. Is this a known issue? If so, can you forward me to the official thread to it?
Thanks.

I actually had the same exact problem. I feel like it has something to do with the battery sensor or something. Anyways, mine eventually stay at 0% and I could no longer charge the device or do firmware updates. Anyways, I have sent my to ASUS for repairs and hopefully all will be dandy afterwards. Good luck with yours.
I got this on my evo 3d after installing a superalpha ics rom and a superalpha kernel. I think its software.

I hate to bump this thread, but did you resolve this OP? My Prime started doing it too. Rebooting, powering off for a few hours, even leaving it with the screen on till it completely drains itself didn't help.
Everything says battery status is unknown, when I have the keyboard dock connected it usually will show the percentage remaining on that, but it seems to occasionally just jump to a lower percentage throughout the day, rather than slowly sink as it tops off the main battery.
I hope it isn't hardware, my Prime has been great otherwise, I'd hate to have to send it in.
I can't embed the pics due to my low post count, but I attached two screen shots. Any ideas? I'm not rooted, running update 21.
Just an update, I accidentally dropped my tablet last night as it slid off my motorcycle seat while I was putting my helmet on, when I picked it up the battery gauge started working again.
And to repeat an age old saying, if it ain't broken don't fix it

I don't mean to bump the thread, I just wanted to post an update in case anyone with a similar issue finds this thread. After my last post, my Prime worked fine for a few weeks, it would randomly switch between the battery gauge working and not working, then one day the tablet died like it was out of juice. I'm not sure what happened, but the only way the tablet would still work was if I plugged it into the wall power outlet, and the moment it was unplugged it would die. I couldn't even use my keyboard dock, as it would start booting, then right before it finishes booting it would shut off like it stops accepting power from the dock for a moment.
I ended up contacting Asus, they issued me an RMA, and about 2 weeks later (most of that shipping back and forth), I had received my Prime, but repaired good as new. The paperwork was vague, so I don't know the actual cause of the issue or what was repaired, but it has been flawless since I got it back. I personally suspect the connector for the battery came loose, and based on how rough I was that day would determine how seated the connector was, until it came totally out.

[Q] Prime has battery connection glitch after JB update

I updated my prime to JB (stock unrooted) and everything seemed to be fine. Everything is smooth and there have been no ANR's etc. I went to bed with the prime unplugged and the screen off. When I woke up, it had powered off. When I turned it back on it gave me a low battery notification, but then said it had like 90% battery. I checked the battery stats and sure enough, 0% for a few hours during the night until I turned it on. This exact thing happened 6 months ago on ICS and Asus fixed it with a firmware update. Does anyone else have this issue?
I am also noticing some keyboard dock connectivity issues. When the screen is off for a few minutes, the dock disconnects (makes the sound). The keys work, but the battery doesn't show up in the status bar and and the track pad doesn't work. It takes a few minutes before it recognizes the dock again.
I'm just trying to see if anyone else has this issue so Asus can be aware of it. All of these problems showed up right after the update, so i am certain that is the cause.

Sleep of Death is back

Last night I docked my Prime for the night to recharge. I left it sitting there opened. After a few seconds I noticed it reboot. "Oh great!" I thought to myself. After it came back up it fell back asleep, I tried to wake it up but it had turned off. I let it do this again to confirm, then I unplugged the charger. Again I left it open, let it fall asleep, and again it turned off. Now, if I close it this will not happen. On .28 I would get an concessional SOD when it was closed and charging. I thought JB had fixed the issue until I discovered the bug last night.
Anyone able to reproduce this?

Do you have an SD card in the dock? If you do then it is a known problem that was also on the tf300 and was patched there so should be patched here also soon. If you do have one in there try taking it out and see if it still happens.

My TF201 when goes into sleep mode WITHOUT dock I cannot wake it up....
I have this issue, and it has been happening since the last ICS update. I'm out of options to try, so I'm sending it to RMA to see what happens, hopefully it gets fixed before my warranty ends. I have tied down my problem at least to the battery meter thinking the battery is dead, then shutting down since the device thinks the battery is dead. Once I rebooot the battery shows normal and the battery stats shows a severe crater in the graph when the battery was thought to be dead.
