CW Recovery Question - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In CW recovery, when I do wipes i goto Mount and Storage then format / data, cache, system.
What happens if i select format / sdcard? will that erase my internal sd card?

Formatting an SD card will wipe it totally clean, so yes.

I've never used it but I suspect it's the same as formatting sd card from settings / storage. You would lose all your photos, media files and everything else on your internal SD card.

Plus phone will no longer boot .
Useful for a fresh install on a clean phone via download mode and Odin and stock rom .

[Q] AmonRa recovery

I just wanted to confirm that when using AmonRa it doesn't wipe the SD card when you select WIPE ALL.. I didn't want to wipe everything stored on my SD card when I use the wipe all option before flashing a rom, thanks!
Are you talking about just the external SD card?

When you wipe all/factory reset to flash a rom, everything on your phone's internal storage is cleared. That includes sdcard, not sdcard2 or ext sdcard. The ROM will generally be on your sdcard2, so it wouldnt make much sense to wipe that too.
Yeah I was but I got my answer over in the CLEANROM thread, thanks!

Safe and complete format

Hello,
I have a question about formating internal card with Recovery ...
Is there any safe way how to format internal card of the phone in CWM recovery and still be able to flash new rom? There is an option for it - format internal sd card and format external but I am not sure what happens if I format internal card etc. Thank you.

it will wipe your SD card just like normal formatting. It's safe.
However if you are not comfortable with the recovery method, you can also try this method which is even safer:
- goto SETTINGS >Storage> Erase SD (do this for the SD you want to erase)
Very fast, very smooth

I was thinking about wiping completely internal and external data which show to me when i plug-in my telefon to my computer. Is there any save way to format all the phone and not brick it? I mean really clean the phone ...
Then do exactly as Jokesy said.
But this procedure will wipe only external card, right?

No. There will be three storage devices shown under storage settings.
1. System, 2Gig
2. Internal SD, 11.x Gig ( there will be a separate ERASE SD for this)
3. External SD, x.x Gig, depending on the size of the your external SD.
If you still not sure advise this you can temporarily unmount your external SD before trying the formatting process.
Good luck

[Q] Stuck in Samsung logo screen

Hi,
I messed up with the Android software, i installed chainfire app from the Play store and tried running it, After it ran the phone rebooted and got stuck in Welcome screen, I did soft reset by pulling out the battery for 10 mins , but it didnt help.
Now the thing is i dont want to lose my sensitive data. P.s I can enter into CWM recovery mode and also my phone is rooted with Omega ROM 4.1.2. I can see the file structure of my internal SDcard through the install from Internal SDcard Menu, But when i go to the mounts and storage menu and mount the SDcard it says there is an error mounting SDcard, I want to take backup of my folders before preforming a hard reset
I tried fetching files through ADB Shell installed on my PC, But it didnt help , I can see all the folders including SDcard and SDcard1, but both folders are empty without any data, i am sure since i was not able to mount the SDcard it was displaying empty folder. But my question is im able to explore all the folders in my internal SD in recovery mode through the "Install from Internal SDcard menu"
Is there any way to recover the files ?....The only way i can think of is to transfer the Same ROM zip file to Ext SD Card and perform the installation of ROM from recovery mode and again my doubt is will it affect the data on my internal SD card
Is there any way to backup my files from SDcard to PC.

flashing the same rom.zip from ext sd card does not wipe internal data.

Ok.....My question is why i am not able to mount my Internal SD card in recovery mode and take a backup through ADB in PC.
Is it that CWM doesnt support mounting the Internal SD card...has anyone tried mounting the internal SD card in recovery mode.

when there is no data loss, why backing up via pc again? when you flash rom.zip through ext sd card, the system boots normally into OS. then you may backup the data to pc and perform hard reset as you wish.

Rom related queries

If I flash a rom suppose ultima rom( or any other rom) does my internal sd card get formatted?
No. Unless you use a script or format SD cards. Data is not your SD data.
Means???
To install a rom you format
Data
System
Cache
And dalvik cache
Then flash rom/gapps
This won't delete your SD cards.
If you format SD card it will format it. Formats are found in mounts and storage in custom recovery.

TWRP Wipe Partitions (Internal Storage)

Is it safe to wipe the "Internal Storage" partition as well when flashing a custom ROM?
even when I have the files to be flashed on an external SD card? does wiping internal storage also wipe all files on the external SD card???
please I need your assistance!!!!!!!
