So, Adobe LIED!? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

i just saw an update on my prime for adobe flash player. i always check the description but i figured it would just be bug fixes. this is what the changelog says on the market
This update to Adobe Flash Player 11 includes compatibility with Android 4 supported devices, performance improvements and bug fixes related to security and stability. The complete set of release notes can be found at: http://adobe.ly/s16mAX.
i checked the update date to see if i was just late to the party. it shows feb 15th. if you go to the market on pc, itll show jan 16th though.
maybe this will help out with flash in chrome beta since its now officially supporting 4.0? i have not tested this yet, literally saw this moments ago and thought to share

I think I saw that adobe literally came out and said specifically that flash was not and would not be supported with chrome beta for android 4.0. I may have misunderstood. Quite frankly I hope I did misunderstand because day don't make no sense to me at all.
sent from my tricked out Infuse 4G or Transformer Prime...

Chrome is still not supported. Adobe said it will never be supported, thus Chrome on android for the next few years, is a dead browser.

You forget, flash on android will no longer be officially supported either. Time to stop making fun of the iCrowds dead product too.

WRONG.
Adobe is going to stop supporting flash for mobile devices after Android 4, so EVERY browser will probably lose flash in the coming versions of Android.
Not having flash in Chrome for Android makes sense. Why would they invest the time/money on a feature that's on its way out anyways?

http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2011/11/flash-focus.html
Adobe's own words.
"We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations (chipset, browser, OS version, etc.) following the upcoming release of Flash Player 11.1 for Android and BlackBerry PlayBook. We will of course continue to provide critical bug fixes and security updates for existing device configurations"
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/43152/flash-for-android-4-end-2011-no-flash-for-android-5
"Adobe will release one more version of the Flash Player for mobile browsing, which will provide support for Android 4.0, and one more release of the Flash Linux Porting Kit - both expected to be released before the end of this year," a company spokesperson told us."
"Adobe's statements however, also mean that future updates to the Google Android OS - Android 5.0, for example - won't be getting Flash support:
"After that time, Adobe will continue to provide critical bug fixes and security updates," the company added."

The majority of content is still Flash. HTML5 will lag for years. Chrome on Android was DOA because of lack of Flash, period.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Flash is ****ing garbage. As a developer, I could list them for you, but who cares as it is dying off!!!!
Bring on HTML 5.

Moving away from flash is fine, heck I welcome it; just need a major player to dump support for it so that the internet starts to actually move away from it. If Microsoft said that it would dump flash from IE, we'd have a sure fire winner right there.

Unfortunately a lot of stuff is still based on flash and on a tablet I use the desktop useragent which means any browser that doesn't have flash support doesn't have a place in my app drawer. Everyone complains about it, even websites like Android Central complain about it yet they still use it. Maybe if they would actually start using something else Flash would die. Until that happens Flash is a necessary part of a browser and any browser that doesn't have it is lacking even if it is made by the almighty Google. The mere fact that Flash will continue on desktop means that there will ALWAYS be a need for it on a tablet or a phone because people browse the same internet on a tablet or phone as they do on their home computers.

You're right, bring on HTML5...but a lot of news sites, facebook and other sites use flash players or embed youtube to display video content. Also: Using Flash you can use high quality h264 codec's, and this codec can not be used in HTML5 in most browsers, so you're stuck with higher bandwidth/lower quality video's then in Flash.
Thus...at the moment, I really need flash support in my browser.

yeah there are a handful of sites that use html5 video and to be honest it looks sub-par compared to the same video loaded in flash.... just go to a site using ipad useragent then go to the same site using desktop, no contest. This is main reason i don't use chrome for android.

I haven't been using Chrome as well, but I'm holding onto it. I set up my vacation in Chrome on a trial run and I loved how well it responded to mobile versions of websites such as Expedia. Very zippy.
But no desktop user agent doesn't make it a winner in my book.

Who wants to open another browser just to watch an embedded video? to bad too since chrome for android is very nice.
I hope the internet catches up.. If adobe does not want to support mobile devices then they should retire flash all together.

You can't be much of a web developer with this attitude....
HTML5 is the future, but it is nowhere near ready for prime time yet. How do you deliver videos with variable bitrates? How do you deliver videos with content protection? YOU CAN'T. There is no support for these CRUCIAL features in any of the HTML5 standards. On top of this, even the CURRENT "standard" has no definition for video codecs, and there is no single codec available that will make your videos playable in all browsers, since they are all doing their own thing.
If you want any of..
- Cross platform video
- Video that will be able to play on low-bandwidth mobile AND high-bandwidth desktop
- Video that has copyright protections. Yes I hate them as much as the next guy, but it is a simple fact that a lot of publishers will not allow content without copyright protections.
.. then you currently HAVE NO CHOICE but to use flash.
All these people trying to get rid of flash today, are putting the cart before the horse. Chrome on Android *is* going to be a non-event if it doesn't support flash because 3/4 of the web nowadays has video content that needs one or more of the above capabilities. Hell, even Google's own embedded YouTube videos will not play in browsers without flash! How dumb can you get here. They could AT LEAST be linking off to the external YouTube player for these videos.
Google needs to make the Chrome plugin API compatible with the stock Android plugin API, to get them over this hoop for the next year or so while HTML5 fills all these gaps it needs to fill before developers can move to it.

It's no developers fault that they wouldn't agree to have a single codec, it's just our job to live with it .
The bitrates and copy protection are the best points you put forward, although everyone I've seen make a stink about it both, didn't choose flash: they
chose Silverlight for their products.
Your "Cross platform" solution also tends to omit whatever platforms they feel like or offer significant issues with platforms they try to support. Enough so that for non-Windows users, no flash can often be a serious selling point for a web site versus it's competitors.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk

I dont care if flash dies... But atm many many sites i use (starcraft 2 streams for example) require flash. So i need it.
If flash is soo bad and aweful why is it all over the net? I dont care about the codec behind the videos i watch, i couldnt care less I'm all for unification and making one codec as a standard so everyone can be happy... But i just want it to work. Without issues. On all my pages. Thats all i'm asking. Atm flash is doing that on my prime pretty well. So i'm fine with it. I'm fine with it when it makes room for something else that works equal or better.
Only thing the devs should try to prevent: Content that cant be used by people that want it to use but cant because of some ****ty codec or because of some company fooling around like a 4 year old.

Links don't work for me so I googled it and their website wouldn't load properly either. I'll try it if I can.
Was able to install.
All the software does is embed PIE and give you access to the services via IE (at least, from what I saw).
It's the equivalent of storing two favorites in your IE favorite directory.
Unless it does something else, I would avoid installing it.

Mostly performance upgrades.
Like enable a faster Internet History Cleaner, speed up the graphics by enable 2Mb on cache, adding missing codec’s or updating the existing codec’s.
And thanks to the Microsoft. Net Compact Framework the whole operating system will be more stable and in some cases more responsive.

But as any other ARD Corp product we add fixes to the Windows OS and twakes to it will work faster, with our app and overal system
Thats why we recomend installing all the updates and software
Also Liberty Desktop will (once HDTV , DTV and Mobile TV hit the final release) give you more stations/channels that wont be on the website
like some DTV from Fox or Discovery
those are channels for Liberty Desktop Users.
Now as for the fixes on the PPC it will load alilbit more faster and apps that the program uses
Like IE and WMP will run faster because we twake them to work faster so our services will be faster.
Sounds pretty weird. Maybe you could explain a bit what you're tweaking exactly (without giving technical details if you don't want to), as I guess no one wants to be the first to try such an obscur stuff
Caution advised
I'd be very sceptical about installing such an app on my PPC. The site doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that this is a legit product, and you may find it is spyware. If that isn't the case then I apologise, but without an actual feature list...
+1 Sounds like Spyware or even mobile Virus warez....I would probably steer clear. Use ORB or a slingbox for your mobile tv, music and stuff.
lol!
this has been posted a couple of

[DISCUSSION] Touchpad OTA Updates

http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/30/hp-touchpad-will-receive-ota-udpate-for-added-functionality/
HP may have abandoned the TouchPad, but that apparently won't stop the company from issuing a post-mortem OTA update for its webOS tablet. Yesterday, an HP spokesperson confirmed to CNET that "HP TouchPad owners can look forward to an over-the-air update that will enhance the platform and add functionality and a growing applications catalog." The rep didn't offer any specifics, but reaffirmed that HP remains "fully committed to the ongoing support and service of customers who purchased webOS devices." The news comes on the heels of a Quickoffice HD update that dropped yesterday, and at a time when TouchPads are selling like hotcakes -- which probably explains HP's decision to issue a tweak. Indeed, the company went on to say that it's seen "huge spikes in activations and between 3-5X downloads of apps," since the TouchPad fire sale first launched.

[Q] New Touchpad OTA update safe?
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-20099049-64/hp-update-to-boost-touchpad-functionality/
Doesn't say exactly when this update will be available. Is it safe to assume that we shouldn't accept the update, if given the option, if we're planning on eventually flashing Android port?
Good question.
I was also wondering if the folks who actually wanted to stay with web os, will the homebrew patches and kernel have to be re-written to work on the updated firmware?
Given that it just says "a future update" with not even a vague indication of *when* that might be, I don't think it's something that we should fret over for now

it depends how drastic the changes are.. i have a feeling the update won't be anything major...
This isn't iOS. The updates don't ever do anything in theory to close down the OS, other than required security hole fixes. Anything you could do prior to the update, you can do after. The webOS doctor is what is probably going to become hijacked for allowing Android installations, and this in theory, will never stop working. Remember, we have always been able to recover a "bricked" device through the webOS Doctor; unlike the many other platforms available. Also, it has been close to 2 years since we had to remove all patches prior to updating. I'd suggest waiting 24 hours, if you can, to verify. Patches and homebrew should not be broken in the update.
One thing they should fix is the browser. Upgrade their libraries up to the level Honeycomb 3.2 or iOS 5 (all of which is open source) to improve the performance (especially JavaScript) and support more HTML5 standards (like SVG). They should also allow users to modify their user agent string to the iPad UA via a hack, so all tablet-oriented websites display as they are meant to.
Although the Touchpad browser is not horrible, it could do a lot better compared to the Android and iOS browsers which are based on WebKit as well. Having an awesome browser could give this tablet much more life while just running webOS with web apps!

i imagine the update will bring things like a native ebook reader or an updated marketplace, nothing radical like a fully skinned version of honeycomb
I too hope for some improvements to the browser, there are a few issues with it, nothing tragic but irritating enough at times.
OTA Update = Android Honeycomb?
Maybe????
It could happen.
(I'm such a troll today)
maybe we will get more than a ota, maybe actual support for webos.

Basic first.
Sound loss and Wifi problems.
Now if we want to go Fancy.
Rotation while playing phone apps is always portrait.
Youtube full screen is up side down (if using a case)
speed up calendar.
speed up photo "fine" loading.
browser minor issues.
Cursor issues.
Do not accept. If they are designing the Android for 3.0.2 then leave it. It's only a matter of a Week before an Alpha is available from Cyanogen.
Android, that way they can collect the $1600. Hell, they have to make back the stock money they lost somehow
I'm thinking the OTA will just be Homebrew/Preware kind of stuff and maybe some new apps.
However, a tabbed browser and a VNC client that works would make me really happy.
Don't Know why people knock the browser. I feel that the WebOS browser is honestly the best mobile browser I have EVER used functionality wise... Never before on a tablet or tablet-like device have I not had to fiddle with user-agent settings and such to get where I need to go... So far only one site has failed on the Touchpad... Hulu, And we all know why that doesn't work...
Other Note: I would laugh if the OTA was just to pre-install preware and homebrew ability... (although it would be a BIG smack in the face of apple, Who leaves their old products to rot instead of supporting them like HP has so far.)
Then again, I find WebOS in general to be the best Mobile OS ever made, And also the best Mobile OS killed before its time...

I have to agree that functionally, it's an excellent browser. It's just that internally (performance en compatibility with technologies) it's not quite as great as Safari in iOS 4 or the Honeycomb browser. Check this link to see what I mean.
The reason why it's important is that by the end of the year all webOS support for native apps will have definitely dried up, which means that webOS users will have to rely on web apps. Web apps can be freaking amazing if the browser supports the latest technology and has good JavaScript performance. Although the Touchpad is not bad there, it should be doable for HP to update its performance and compatibility to the level of iOS 5.

[Q] Need help Choosing software for Android

I will soon be an Android convert even thought i have never owned a smart phone. I have used PDA's since my first Dell Axim. I stuck with the Windows Mobile 2003 platform until the third gen ipod touch came out. I switched to the 3rd gen touch and used it till it died; then i got my trusty 4th Gen ipod touch.
Now i am ready to move on to one device, phone and PDA in one. The natural choice seems to be iphone 5 since i am familiar with ipods (even though i am no real fan of apple).
The thing is, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is beautiful! The screen is huge and widgets are "cool." I really want to go Android.
This leads to my problem. Finding adequate software. I have broken down my needs in categories below. PLEASE, if anyone knows of a good software, paid or free, that will do what i want, please suggest it to me.
For starters, CALENDARS.
I have used Pocket Informant for the ipod for awhile. (Used it on the Win mobile before that) I love it. Played with the Android version on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and i gotta say, it needs work. A lot of work.
The calendar that comes with the tab is nice too, and so is jorte, but my biggest problem (and it seems like a small one) is that I like to look at the month view and see the times listed in the mirco text before the appointment. otherwise i have to open each appointment or change views to see the start times.
Attached pictures show exactly what i am talking about. Both are screen shots of the current version of Pocket Informant. Notice the start times on the iOS version. Also notice how the android version (the second one) looks "undone."

}
How can I, in good conscience go from the above.... to this.....
even on the samsung galaxy's beautiful screen that is shameful.
My Main criteria for a new calendar program is a month view as close to the first image as possible. Specifically i really like how in month mode you can see the start times of appointments in the Apple version. I have tried several different calendar programs and have yet to find an Android one that does this. What happened to Android being all about choice? Why does every single calendar app appear to just be different fonts on the same engine?
The next point of contention is Video playback
My main criteria for a playback app is that it shows the time remaining on the progress bar.
What i mean is that, on the ipod, youtube, and just about EVERYWHERE, the progress bar (scrubber) shows the current time to the right of the slider, and time remaining on the left. I like this.
On EVERY Android video player i have tried it shows the current time on the right, but the left is stuck at the total time. It does not move. It does not count down how much time is left.
Again, it feels like every app is using the same engine, with different "window dressing."
Is there an app out there that can handle the time left? Please let me know.
My secondary Criteria for a playback app is i would like it to be able to handle embedded thumbnail tags in mp4 files. This seems like a no-brainer. iTunes does it. iPods do it. But i have yet to find a single Android app that will correctly display the embedded image. They, instead, choose to display a random screenshot for the thumbnail. Where is the variety that an open system should bring?
In a perfect world, the Android app would also sort the shows into groups based on the show name and season, for properly tagged files. Ipod touch does it. Seems simple enough, yet again, i cannot find a program that can do this.
Next up, Syncing.
I think i have this one covered. I really like itunes. And before you say "bloatware" let me just say that the UI on winamp sucks. iTunes is beautiful, easy to navigate, sort, and manipulate my mp3 files. The Closest i have found is Media Monkey. But to tell you the truth, i am not sure i am ready to give up itunes yet. I love my playcounts dating back to 2006. So, i have been using iSyncer and it seems to do the trick. When set up properly it syncs and even syncs playcounts back to iTunes. I hear DoubleTwist will let you sync your Android device to iTunes also; but iSyncer seems to be a more elegant solution.
Audio Playback
Again, as with videos none of the audio apps that i have found show how much time is left in a song on the right hand side of the scrubber. This is an epidemic!
Also, I have mp3 files that are audio books and Howard Stern Shows. I cannot listen to these in one session, and switch back and forth with music. In itunes/iPod-land i would simply use "get info - Options - Media Kind" to switch these mp3 files to audio books or podcasts and check mark the box allowing it to remember position. This one is important. I really need help finding an audio player that allows this. Allowing me to save my position in "Howard", for example, listen to some music, then go back to where i left off in the Radio Show.
This Leads to Podcasts. Video and Audio.
I listen to quite a few podcasts. I could sync them over from iTunes using iSyncer, but it throws them in the same folder as my music making them hard to find. This is very messy. I hope a later version of iSyncer takes care of this. Until then, I would probably use an app to download them directly to the S3. I just downloaded a program called Podcast Addict. This may do the trick, but it is, again, inelegant and seems undone. Can someone point me in the direction of a GREAT podcast catcher app?
Is this all too much to ask of Android apps or am I just looking in the wrong places. If that is the case, please let me know, and i will check out whatever app fits the criteria outlined above. When i started looking, these seemed like minor things. Especially on a system that is all about being open; for the sake of choice. This seems to be a theme when people talk about why Android is so much better than iOS.
Sorry to sound like i am ranting.. maybe i am ranting... but i really want this to work. But i cant compromise on the user experience just to have a bigger screen. I need software that is up to the task, and i can't seem to find it on my own. Any input you can give will be greatly appreciated.
thanks for listening!

Hi,
Feel free to tell me what's not working for you in Podcast Addict. FYI a new major release it's on its way with a new UI
Yes i agree that iOS' Calendar is more polished. But i still sure you can find some really good calendar app on the Google Play. Not sure if it going to be free (to be that polished like iOS' one).

No offense, but that is exactly the problem. Everyone i speak to locally, and also on the net, always say the same thing. "there are great ones on google play." But they aren't using good ones, nor do they tell me any good ones that could even come close to the polished look of PI for iOS and no one has suggested one that shows the times in the month view. Those are the two main selling points for me.
but thanks for responding.

Nothing is wrong with Podcast Addict, per se. But, what i am looking for would be a podcasting program that allowed me to add mp3 files as podcasts. Also, i was having trouble navigating. I would find myself trapped in a menu with no way to get back. (this was a couple of weeks ago. I will try to do it again, so i can give you a step by step example; so that the above statement makes more sence)
But overall, i like podcast addict. I am sticking with it. I just wish i could add my howard stern mp3's there manually so they show up as podcasts. Like i do in itunes.
Check those:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.alxb.calendardroid
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mikado.bizcalpro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greenbeansoft.CheckmarkCalendar
I would suggest you pick one which looks for you better and install it to check how it is in action.
P.S.: personally i use very simply stuff like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex.gowidget.calendarwidget

Going to download the free one first.. .then check out the other two. the first 2 don't appear to show times in the main month window. But this might be something that is in settings. They all look very nice, "polished."
thank you for responding.
You have a podcast without any feeds ?
I was thinking about allowing to play external audio files with the app with the resume feature. They might not looks like a usual podcast, but will appears in the playlist

Yes. I download it as an mp3 file. And in itunes tag it as a podcast. Then it shows up as a regular podcast would on the ipod. Haven't found an android equivalent yet.
The feature you are considering sounds like what i am looking for. Count me as one vote for that new feature

i don't think we are allowed to talk about that here. people get kicked out for such discussions on most boards.
Why ???
A RSS feed is the only or at least the common way to subscribe to a podcast. You won't be kicked talking about that.

Of course you do what ever you want. I'm just trying to understand in which case you might need to do that. It's so simple to subscribe to a feed, enable auto-refresh/auto-download/auto-queue then just press play. Maybe you didn't find a non-itunes feed. In that case if you tell me the name of the podcast I can try to find it

No more Adobe Flash?

Went to view some stats and add points to my "nation" for Medal of Honor Warfighter using my Dolphin browser. The page would not display properly, and I noticed a warning about Adobe Flash not installed or disabled? I had Flash set to always on, but now it showed on demand. Went to change it, and a pop-up warning appeared stating that Adobe has discontinued Flash support for Android! And sure enough, it is no longer in the Google Play Store anymore. WTH???!!!
Is this yet another bit of sabotage from Apple to cripple it hottest competition? Because just about every website uses Flash for something, and this would cripple web browsing on ALL Android based devices. And thus effect a lot of us Android users!
yah, they stopped it ...
This is old news. Adobe discontinued flash for Android since JellyBean and have taken it off the Play Store. ICS is the last supported version. This is due to the fact that Flash is a resource heavy technology that is soon becoming outdated and HTML5 is being adopted more and more everyday. I use the YouTube HTML5 player myself and have been doing so since a few months. I hardly ever find a need for Flash, especially on a mobile device. Of course, people's requirement vary, but like the YouTube HTML5 player, websites are moving towards that everyday. HTML5 is the future, and everyone including Adobe knows it. So I don't think they would spend money and resources developing a technology that will soon be obsolete anyway.
You can still install the Flash Player apk from Adobe's website on both ICS and JellyBean and use it on your device. They haven't removed every trace of it, they've just put it in their legacy section and aren't going to update it anymore.

Please do some research of your own, if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM before flashing it!
YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and do know that I am not asking you to make the decision to flash this ROM.

Having said that, I am here to help and will do my best to help you if you run into trouble. All I ask is, in case of problems, kindly post as many details on the problem as you can. This will help me narrow down the problem.
About JASS -
Just Another SS Rom is my own customized rom. It uses the same ICS 4.0.4 codebase as the stock. Due to the ingrained AMLOGIC's Library, I am reluctant to modify the Kernel significantly. Rest of the Rom however has been worked on considerably. It has been oriented towards gaining maximum performance out of the single Processor on board. It also unlocks the true potential of the Mali GPU.
We all would love to see Jellybean on the Favi Smartstick. But such is not the case. The blame squarely lies at the doorstep of Amlogic the maker of the A9 processor inside. Until such time they release source for Jellybean, we will have to wait. Just so you are aware, you are not alone. The whole community of Ainol NOVO Tablet, which is based on same Processor, rebelled at this. Given they are considerably larger than the one for this stick, they had pressured Ainol into releasing JB. Ainol pointed to AMLOGIC so a petition has already been created to Amlogic. If they succeed, we shall benefit.
So is all lost till then ? Oh not at all!! Why would you want JB ? I guess for Project Butter? Or perhaps Google Now ? If so read on the Change Log.
Release 2.0 Change Log -
Say Hello to Google Now!
Welcome Project Butter! Google's Grass Roots effort geared towards smoothness and Performance. Watch this video for more.
Introducing Themed Google Apps, Say Thanks for Team Blackout for the amazing Inverted Google Apps.
Welcome the Xposed Framework. This opens the door wide for all kinds of mods tweaks and other goodies!
Gamer Oriented Performance. Quicker Disk I/O. Other Non-Gaming users should experience grass Roots performance improvement.
I am not a Graphics artist. But I have dabbled a little bit on theaming the Rom. Let me know your thoughts.
Zoom partly works. The Lens button on the lower right corner of the Mini Wireless keyboard will zoom out of any scenario. Afraid I don't have a zoom in yet.
Side note to introduction of Black GApps, From this release on, the Google apps are separately flashable zip. I will include only Google Play and Calendar in the Rom. Rest you can flash separately. You will notice a Team Black Updater app included.
This release is powered by SuperSU. So do please stop by and say thanks to its developer @Chainfire.
Please use Titanium Backup or any Root Uninstaller to remove the "Update 1.0" app. It does not play well with my code and keeps nagging about an update.
Release 1.0 Features -
Here are some of the Salient features of this Rom
Tablet UI instead of stock tabbed UI.
Numerous performance tweaks. Better memory management.
Better Wi Fi connection speed. In my case the recorded speed over WiFi jumped from 4 to 5 MBPS to 9.5 MBPS.
Better Streaming buffer. So less likelihood of Buffering while watching online video.
Dolby Digital Surround Sound with Beats Audio from this thread. Only applicable if your source file is Dolby or Netflix/hulu streams Dolby. If you like this, please thank nikhilonlive.
Adaway is included and programmed out of box. So even if you don't use the app, ads will be limited.
CIFs Manager is included in case you need to map to some windows share or a NAS.
Download & Installation -
This release will reset your SmartStick to Factory Default and remove all existing apps. So better take a Titanium Backup if you wish to conserve.
NOTE - AMLOGIC has updated Recovery. So there will be Verification failure errors if you don't follow the instructions carefully.
There are two separate sets of instructions depending on your Current firmware on the Smartstick.
Look under Settings > About > Build.
Firmware Version 1.1.2.1 & JASS 1.0 -
If you see 1.1.2.1 as the Stock firmware, then you need to download the Full Flash firmware of Smartstick.
If you have previous version of JASS Rom, you still need to update your Recovery.
Download Link here.
Unzip the contents of the downloaded Zip file completely to the Root of your Micro SD Card or a USB Flash Drive. You will notice another zip file called update.zip. Please do not unzip it. Make sure it resides on the Root of your microsd card or USB Drive then proceed to installation.
Firmware Version 1.1.2.5 -
Your Recovery is already updated. You can go ahead and use only the Update version. Download Link here.
Do not Unzip the downloaded file. Place it on the Root of your MicroSD Card or USB Flash Drive and then proceed to installation.
Google Apps -
These are completely optional. I have included essential apps into the Rom. These are the Play Store and the Calendar.
Irrespective of either case, you can use same Google Apps zip. Download Link here. Place the Zip file
Installation -
Plug in the above flash ROM device to the MicroSD slot or USB port.
Reboot into Recovery by either using Quick Boot App or by using a push pin.
Choose apply update from the SD Card or USB Stick.
For those who are coming from 1.1.2.1 version, you may see automatic update process without your input. If so, then let it complete.
For everyone else, first choose the Rom Zip. Either the update.zip or the separately downloaded JASSROMv2.0 off 1.1.2.5 zip.
Once the Rom has been flashed, you will be come back to the Recovery Screen. Now optionally choose the Gapps zip file. Proceed to flash
Reboot & Profit !!
NOTE -
Welcome Wizard does not include Logging into your Google Account. So you will have to choose Google Play Store so it will prompt you to log on the first time.
First time Boot will take considerable time as Dalvik Builds for the first time. Subsequent boots will be faster.
That's it! Enjoy & have fun. Let me know if you have any issues or feedback.

Correct XBMC Build for Smartstick -
If your XBMC Setup is working perfectly, do not read further.
The Official Release you see on XBMC's website is compiled for Allwinner ARM Processor based devices. Our Smartstick DOES NOT HAVE that processor. That is the primary reason of some of the issues you may be facing.
Here's a short detail on one of the reason for the problems.
The Smartstick, either the 8 GB or 16 GB is powered by AMLOGIC Cortex-A9 Processor. Now the part that typically throws people off is the ARM part. Both Allwinner Technologies as well as AMLOGIC manufacture Mobile Processor that are based on ARM Architecture. Smartstick has AMLOGIC's implementation of ARM Cortex A9. The version of XBMC you can download as of 01-10-14 is for Allwinner ARM Cortex A12.
So you need to get a build of XBMC that has the AMPLYER built for the AMLOGIC's implementation of the ARM Architecture. The PIVOS XIOS device does have the same processor as the Smartstick. So XBMC build by users of PIVOS will be suited for you. You can visit their forum for the latest builds. Here's a build that has been tested and found successful. So go ahead and give this a try. It has the AMPLAYER compiled inside. As you are aware, you are welcome to use an external player as well.
Thanks for this! Been waiting for a custom rom

Two features
Droid VNC ! Please. I can get a view-only VNC connection to work. But I always get "Cannot create virtual input device".
I am running the 1.1.2.1 rooted build from SmartStick.info
And Google TV remote works, but most of the buttons do not work obviously. What I really need from it is a button to open the onscreen keyboard and also, to be able to type Caps (I cannot currently). App shortcuts would be nice too.
Let me know if this could be done. Thanks.

As far as VNC is concerned, the IP tables are turned off partially. So making VNC or VPN work is bit of a challenge. I will see what I can do.
Google Remote's been buggy a bit. Primary reason is the TV Remote app and hardware don't integrate well. (AMLogic Kernel). I will need to include some keyboard drivers. Again will see what I can do.
Would you be kind and test out the current build ? I'd love to know first impressions...
Thanks for requests. Gives me an idea of what the users are looking for,
Yes, I would be happy to test what you've got so far
In every attempt to either get VNC user input working... or to install any functional remote... I always seem to have similar errors which I understand to be a lack of "uinput module loaded in the kernel"

Do please understand I did not modify the Kernel from Stock version 1.1.2.1. So these are carry forward issues from there.
I am presently working on fixing loading external modules at start. This is work in progress as listed in the Op.
Even the 1.1.2.1 stock and rooted versions don't work well with the Google TV keyboard.
It is most apparent when starting up xbmc.
I think that would be a great feature to work on.

There are .Ko files missing in the current rom for Google Keyboard. I will have to procure the ICS compatible version in order to support. Will definitely go after it.
Thanks for the feedback.
Will you be kind enough to test how Wireless connectivity is working out ? Especially buffering when playing online content ?
So how has this rom been working? Just bought a Favi stick off of groupon and will wanna root as soon as I get it. Big thing for me will be adaway. Plan on using TSF Shell Launcher with it. Pretty excited.

I have particularly coded for better Wi-Fi Performance. :silly:
Looking forward to it! Now let's just see how long it takes groupon to send it to me! But last question, any chance of jellybean? If not I'm totally fine with ICS and a launcher.

Short answer. No JB right now. Besides some of the JB features require real touch screen. So not really a difference between ICS & JB.

Yes that's on cards. Especially considering the Navbar is back, I am considering skinning it and/or porting some tablet themes as well.
However, as you see, It doesn't look like Popularity peak. I had a grand total of 17 Downloads total. Given that I didn't have even as many posts here or on Favi's Forums, it doesn't seem like people even want this.

Its not that I'd do it for my own interest. I do it for "People's" Interest. This does not seem to be present. Does make one loose interest in the work. I am not saying I will stop doing it, I am just saying what I feel.
Thanks for the offer. I will certainly reach out.
Count me in.
I think the brand favi is not popular yet and uet does noy have enought developers
If you can improve it memory and update
To latest version and if it can do all the nice things like
Xbmc
Maybe preload xbmc ? Hardware player ..etc then people really interest
