[Q] Please help me root my Lenovo IdeaPadA1? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad tablet. I've rooted two phones easily, no problems. This thing is being testy! I literally spent all night trying to use "SuperOneClick", which freezes every time. Apparently this is a large problem, with people posting on the shortfuse website about it, but no word at all from that developer (too bad...sounded promising). Then, I utilized the thread search, but I only received, oh I don't know, ~70 pages for the same thread, which provided no help whatsoever. But all I want to do is root it so that I can put an app on it to recieve a bluetooth internet tether. No custom Rom's or nothing. I'm here because not only is this place the standard for Android apparently, but the shortfuse page also links back here as well. If this is in the wrong spot to ask, please move accordingly, but there is no spot in the tablets for the IdeaPad. Thanks in advance for your help!

Wow. I thought something special about this place! But the "noob" fixed it himself. Thanks for the load of a lack of help.

If you noticed in my post, I said I did try "super"oneclick (and yes with all appropriate drivers) for a whole night. As I mentioned, I figured it out myself. But at least you did try, can't say that about anyone else...for that you receive my thanks.

Lenovo thinkpad a-1
I have the same problem tried oneclick and always stops at # 7 waiting on device.
how did you finally manage to get root? any help would be appreciated.. I have also rooted several HTC android phones but this thinkpad is kicking my butt.

[Q] Question regarding rooting and roms

Hey guys, as you can see I am new to the whole wide world of android. I have had an iPhone since 2007 and recently dropped my iPhone 4 on the pavement which completely wrecked the screen. I seized the opportunity to buy an android. I got this s2 for 350 on eBay.
Anyway... I have absolutely no idea what I am getting into here. I have watched a ton of videos and still am really lost. (Sadly)
I have this s2 at 4.0.3 and am completely lost when it comes to how to flash a rom. I get we have to use ODIN, Kies and your rom. Am I missing anything else?
I want to use this. galaxys2root. com/att-galaxy-s2/aokp-ics-rom-for-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777-best-ics-rom/ << I cannot post links so its just a space in between the .com
I have seen videos where I have to root the thing first- or will this do it for me? I have also seen "roms" that are 400 MB in size but this one I like its 134... Am i missing any files or something? I have done searching but I end up more confused than I started. If someone could give me a push in the right direction that would be a great help!
This is the first phone I am actually confused with... I am sure it is easy, just not for a guy who has had an iPhone and developed for them since then... (I am co founder of whited00r )
Start with the links in the sticky. Be sure to read them all.
You said your phone is already on 4.0.3, which is Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). That means it's not stock (aka factory settings, out of the box, etc). I'd personally suggest after reading all the links, returning to stock and starting over from scratch as it's the best way to ensure you don't have any problems, especially since you don't really know what the previous owner did to your phone. The links for returning to stock and for flashing custom ROMs are also in the sticky. Please don't read just these links, read at least all of the other links posted there. That's just the starting point mind you, you should probably do more reading after that on stuff in the posts that you don't understand. I know this will take a lot of time, but it's for everyone's benefit that you fully understand everything you do to your phone before you do it.
I'll even help you out with a couple other links I think may be useful which aren't in the sticky.
ROM vs. Kernel
Odex vs. Deodex
Please hit my thanks button if I helped you. Good luck and welcome to the forums!

From now on, don't watch any videos. They tend to be incomplete and usually outdated. Also, don't use any files or methods you find anywhere else besides XDA.
Like karate104 said, read the stickies at the top of the forums; they will tell you everything you need to know in detail. Read this one in particular. It has links to a lot of useful guides.
you also need to be wary of what you read and watch on gs2root. com
when i first started i used the rooting technique with the kernel from there and ended up with no wifi and ended up having to flash entropy's daily driver to recover
as the guys above said, read the stickies here and go over it a million times until it makes sense
flashing can open up loads of features, but you can very easily make your phone unusable (easily fixable once not hard bricked) but better avoid the trouble than finding a fix
Another victim on galaxys2root!
Sigh!

[Q] HCL ME V1 tablet stuck in a boot loop, power button only works when 100% charged.

Okay, I know I'm supposed to search seven hells (watching too much Game of Thrones) before I post my question. The intro video was clear enough about that. But no, nothing helped. So here goes....
Hi guys,
My HCL ME V1 tablet (ICS 4.0.4, kernel 3.x.x, rooted with ME U1 root via SuperOneClick. Several forums said that this root would work for V1 as well) is stuck in a boot loop. The rest button does not solve the problem, neither does a hard reset (it simply does not go into hard reset from all the methods suggested online across various forums). I scoured heaven and earth to find how to go into recovery for this particular tablet but none of the solutions work.
The power button works only once when it's in 100% charge (green light on the top corner of lcd). After that I have to wait for it to get discharged completely and recharge it once again. All those tips of pressing the volume up and/or down button along with the power/home button and the reset pinhole... none of them worked in my case. I know its a corrupted OS issue and I can solve it. Only if I could somehow get the tablet to boot once or get into recovery or download mode. I know it for a fact that the power button i fine because... again... I stand witness to the fact that the tablet has not experienced any physical shock what-so-ever since the day it was bought. Also not to forget it works once when the tab is in 100% charge.
I can see two scenarios by which the problem might have started:
1. I downloaded FL Studio Mobile apk and its dlc from pirate bay. I copied the apk to the internal SD card (straight on the sd card not inside any folder), and the dlc was instructed to be copied to sdcard/Android/obb. The uploader had said that if the obb folder was not there, I had to create it and so I did and copied. Halfway through the dlc copy, my laptop hanged. So I terminated the process from taskmgr and disconnected my tab from the "disconnect from USB storage" page on the tablet.
2. Next I opened Android Tweaker (Pro?) to tweak a few parameters so that FL Studio Mobile could run a bit lag free. I'm not a power user so, I just used the auto-tweak feature for the performance settings. Next I rebooted via the app and lo! The tablet is now stuck in an eternal boot cycle loop.
I'm an electronic musician and like to have these apps on my devices so that I can make music on the go.
Also one thing I should mention is that while rooting the /bin/su file could not be executed, however installing Titanium Backup Pro (Root) had solved that problem as there was an option in that app to fix it.
Sorry for the long post :cyclops: but I think my problem is somewhat peculiar if not unique. No body else's solution is working and I think there are not many Indians who use the V1 tablet.
Solved
Thank you everyone for not replying to this post. You may have thought that the solutions existed in someone else's answers. But NO. None of anyone else's solutions worked.
I thought this was a place full of experts, but I guess you people are way too busy with your own stuff to really help others which is the purpose of this forum.
Anyways, I solved the problem. The tablet works fine, in fact it works even faster. And just to rub it in HCL's face, I've upgraded the internal memory and RAM. Yes I resoldered the PCB. Removed all the bloatware and useless stuff from our dear beloved Indian manufacturer.
But I'm not going to share how I solved this issue. None of you took the time to reply, so non of u will get this piece of knowledge upgrade. Funk you very much :victory:

Hey bro,
I am newbie with this HCL V1 tablet and it sucks a lot to use this. I got it sent to HCL store for repairing (to flash) just after 3 days I ordered it.
As you are the user of this tab you should be very well known to the problems this tab comes with. Even its not playing the Subway Surfer game smoothly, wt the hell with 1 GB RAM.
So please suggest me the twiks for this tab as like working rooting, global or transparent proxy (needs in college campus because in college wifi works only with default browser with no download at all (only in androids, downloads in symbian, iOS) probably because download runs with external app by default in androids as it shows differently in notification bar about the download progress).
Please help me to resolve these problems.
Thank you.

You are proving to the world how racist Indians are to each other nothing else. And I'm not a Bori wherever the **** they are from. Its Borah you "madarchod ki aulad hindustani" Of course now you will report this to the admin and I will get banned from this site. Or you're gonna throw your cheap sounding Indian abuses at me, or you will try to act like a smartass and type a nice sophisticated sounding comeback to make people sympathize with you. What else can your beta-male-Indian-ass do? Either way, you are insignificant to me and whatever you say is invalid in my world. And thank you for quoting me because finally I got a notification from this website.
For the rest of the people-
This thread is almost one year old now if you know how to read the English calendar. The FB account that was linked to this has been deleted almost a year ago. I don't exactly remember the solution but I cracked open the tablet, took out the ROM, took it to a friend who burns ROMs.
This tablet was meant for my dad which is why it pissed me off no end that it should malfunction. Eventually I threw this piece of **** in the trash and got him a Samsung tab that works the way it is meant to work.
My advice - save some money and buy a higher end android tab and your life will be much more peaceful. Unlike iOS where the hardware platform is pretty much standard, the wide variety of configurations on which android is installed is the main culprit here. You want smooth performance, less lag, and bug free performance, and easily available non-factory support? Honestly start saving money and get a better brand tab. No where else in the world do people push these cheap ass tablets so hard other than the third world.
I understand you all want the best bang for your buck but understand what "best" is first.
Now, you'll can crucify me in your replies if you want. I don't give two ****s about it. Peace out homos!
Calm Down Bro ...

[Q] E980 brick with QHSUSB_DLOAD showing.

Ok a few days ago I wasnt paying attention and I installed a ROM on my LG Optimus G and when I restarted, it did not reboot. I have read a number of different forum topics on the subject and done a number of things to attempt to fix it.
From what I read, when the device shows up as QHSUSB_DLOAD in device manager, it is end game.
Ok well I did not immediately give up. I found and installed the Qualcomm drivers. I tried LG FlashTools. Of course to no avail.
This guy on EBAY (item 281151982662) will fix it for $24.99. I think that is a fine deal and since I have exhausted my other options, I was preparing to send it off to him.
AND THEN I found a link to "www(dot)zpsjbbs(dot)com/thread-5097-1-1.html -THIS FORUM POST that implies it may be fixable still with a software solution!!
The challenge is of course, that the post is written in Chinese. Google can translate and I feel I will be able to decipher it and search for and find the various pieces of software and try it out.
Question I have is, is it worth the time? Is it possible? Has anyone tried this method? Anyone have English explanation of it?
Thanks in advance. This is my first post here so I can not post links.
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=lg-optimus-g
Try catching Shelnutt2 on this link. This has come up in the past and from memory there is a Qualcomm tool availible, but I am not sure if anyone ever got it to work. There were hex files needed if I remember correctly.
Please , can you tell us what went wrong ?? so no one else tries it if they read it ??
Ive played with the Programs, Its QPST and the hope that it offers up is limited, but Im not a dev either. I can get it to a certain point and that's it, u need hex's off a working phone to get another part of the phone to say ok to get another part of it working... or so it seems, but Im all in on this if anyone wants to dable, this would cure a lot of woes if we hammered this topic. To JTAG my phone it cost 60 bux so the ebay deal if hes credible, is a good deal

Is there a way to do the Android OS software updates to several devices at one time?

Hi,
First of all, moderators please feel free to move this thread to the correct section if I'm wrong.
This is the story: we have received 80 Samsung S8 in our company to replace he old S5 ones. The problem that we are facing is that we can't deliver the new devices to the users without all the software upgrades. So, we have to go one by one trough the update process thee times!! with it's corespondent reboots and checks on every device.
So the question is as the thread title shows, is there a way to bulk update several devices at the same time? I mean, not by doing it by hand but in an automated way.
I've been digging on google but I can't find nothing on this matter. Maybe I'm just blind or that there it isn't a way to do it.
Hope some one can help. Any idea would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Ouch, no one?
Any ideas?

Are devices with MediaTek chipsets unbrickable?

Hi everyone.
So I've been with this question in my mind for some time now... Are they really unbrickable? I have a ZTE Blade L3 on which flashed infinite times ROMs on it. Some completely bricked it - it couldn't even charge. It has a MT6582M processor on it. It was COMPLETELY bricked. And I always got it to work again. Never bricked it for good - and I did many stupid things on it, many experiments. And after a bit, SP Flash Tool would always flash stuff back to it even by flashing wrong ROMs on it.
I also believe I flashed a wrong ROM to a friend's Elephone P8000 B which has a MT6753 processor on it. I thought I had bricked it (this is why I think I flashed a wrong ROM on it) - but SP Flash Tool got back working after a few tries. I did what I wanted with the phone and it didn't brick.
So my thought is that ANY device with a MediaTek chipset with a ROM and a scatter file available and an always unlocked bootloader (preferably - as my Blade L3 had, I believe - since I never heard of this until weeks ago), might be unbrickable. I, supposedly, can do whatever I want on it and I'll always be able to unbrick it.
Is this true what I just wrote? If it is, then I'll try to never leave MediaTek powered devices.
Note: A thread confirmed this thought I had for some time until I found this thread, but it only says it about MT65xx devices, not all the others: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943442 --> "Added on Nov 23, 2012 - MT65xx is truly UNBRICKABLE".
Note 2: Also....... After now reading back a bit of the thread, I found out I did exactly ALL the opposite they recommend there in caps and the phone always unbricked....... XD. So I'm a bit confused with all the careful people are about MediaTek powered devices when I was not careful (stupidly, I know), though it always worked. I have the phone since 2015 and stopped using it last year, but I believe I did the opposite of those things, even though I'm not completely sure. And again, never permanently bricked.
Thank you for any informations!
I'm not going to lie to you, your probably not going to get any other replies to the book you wrote above... I will answer your question however. There is not a single mobile device out there that cannot be unbricked as long as the issues that occurred to cause said brick remains at the software level. It don't matter what brand or carrier it is. If it is a software related issue then it can be fixed as long as you have the knowledge and tools required to do so. As for your experimentation using root, I have done many experiments myself and there are many many things you can do using root that will permanently brick your device. Sounds to me like you got lucky. Simple as that. I'll end this by saying, please do not post your entire relationship with your favorite phone in a single thread like you did. Nothing personal but many probably did not stay long enough to finish what you wrote. You have a valid question. However the rest was just unnecessary and to many, a waste of their time. Hope I helped.
Hi. I didn't even remember about this anymore. This last year I was told I write too much unnecessary things - just like you did. I've been trying to correct that and I believe I improved (no idea if much or not). When you said "the book you wrote" I got embarassed in advance because I knew what was going next, and when I scrolled up I got scared and even more embarassed and it's still increasing as I think more about it . Christ, how did I even post that. I'm very sorry........ I guess we learn as time goes by.... (hopefully haha). Hopefully now it's good enough. If it's still bad, I'll be happy to receive the advice, as I am with the one you gave. Thank you. For everything you said, actually.
Spoiler: Not needed, just curiosity of why I wrote it so big
EDIT: Just a small explanation of the why I wrote the text so big, which was I'd prefer to give all the informations right at the start so people can know exactly what was done and say things according to that. Instead of assuming I did things I might not have done and answer something that might not be correct in my case. But then I write a book and that's beyond stupid. So I've been trying to correct that. That's the wrong point of the view and I think I still need a bit more time, but hopefully I'm getting there - maybe I should start posting on Reddit hahaha. Posting things is not that old for me. Started a few years ago (21 years old - a bit late for my age, I guess, but I didn't go on Internet that much before).
My intent was not to embarass you. I apologize. I should have checked the date this was originally posted. I do hope i was able to answer your question though. That was my true intent.

Ah no problem at all. Gotta be corrected in some way . That happens with me when I see an enormous stupidity made by me which I did not realize at the time - and this one is 5 months old, which puts it worse haha.
That shall work so I won't forget of not doing this again in the far future xD. Before, some people would tell me about and I'd notice it was a wall of text (like once a person told me). And I appreciate all those who warned me about it. Sooner or later I'll get to a decent amount of text, depending on the forum. I think I didn't know what a paragraph was, as a start xD (though, what you saw there was already an update....). It's still a big post, I think, but hopefully it's readable now. If it's not, I'll cut more of it.
But yes, you did answer the question. Thank you. But to complement it, if you remember, at least, what experiments with root can completely brick a phone? (So I know I won't try them, as a start, but it's also a curiosity.)
Well a good example of some things not to do is changing the system files to allow the device to operate at a level it was not designed to operate at. For example. Messing with the kernel to make the processor run at a higher speed, same goes for the RAM. This will cause it to overheat and will basically fry the system board. Also if you are not sure what you are changing then dont change them. Nothing like accidently changing the EFI settings to where it no longer knows where the internal storage addresses are and does not know it has any type of storage to boot to. However a lot of the efi should be copywrite protected where even a root user cannot modify them but trust me... its possible and may still be repairable but only by the manufacturer who has that level of access and definitely not worth what it would cost. Keep an eye on any files you modify for a copywrite at the top of the file. Changing copywrite files will most likely get you in a whole lot of trouble. If you end up having a web adress listed in the build.prop on every android device you own that brings you to the developers terms and conditions then stop messing with system files. This is more or less a warning telling you that you are breaking the terms and conditions. I would libe to continue but then i would be contridicting myself on my comment about very large messages in the forums. If you would like to know anything else please feel free to PM me and lets put an end to this thread lol.
Guys, speaking of devices with MT chipset, I have a Hannspad HSG1341 that was running Android 5.1 and wanted to root the pad using some tutorial I saw with magisk by installing the APK on this device which creates a modified boot.img. Then using SP Flash Tool I tried to reinstall the stock firmware by replacing the boo.img created by magisk and now the pad would not power on, I have tried searching for means to restore this pad but nothing. Even SP flash tool is now displaying s_ft_enable_dram failed (4032). So please off anyone has any idea how to resolve or is the pad dead for good. The chipset is MT8163. Let me know if you need more info to help out
thanks
