[Q] Returning relocked rezound? - HTC Rezound

So i really want to unlock but im worried about it still saying re-locked at the top if i ever have to send it back for any reason just in case. Maybe im just paranoid but i have already had 1 replacement and i don't want to have trouble if i need another. Anyways, my question is has anyone successfully returned a rezound BY MAIL. i dont care about if it worked in a store, i have to send it back by mail. Has anyone done it? If so, post your results
PS. I am not new to rooting, i had a Dinc and loved all the roms for it but you could always get it back S-on if you needed a replacement and there's no way to do that with this one.

Not trolling. I gave you an answer.
"If you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day; if you teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime."
Plus plenty of people have posted their experiences about doing this over the phone. It was all that was talked about the first week we got HTC Dev unlock.

You still have HTC's Warranty, as for Verizon.. A store Visit they won't really bother going as deep as checking the bootloader... A mail in to Verizon they would notice once they try to Debug it before selling it off as Refurbished and sending you another

But DO they check and debug that deeply. Going to a store is really just not an option for me and I don't want to be stuck with a defective phone if I can't get it replaced and its a hardware problem.
EDIT: Also, what does HTC's warentee cover vs. Verizon's?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App

HTC claims they will cover all HW issues NOT related to unlocked bootloaders. Verizon is kinda up in the air. I can say plenty of people have said that they have sent multiple phones back to Verizon while still rooted and s-offed, so not just the rezound and have never been charged.

In all reality it comes down to the individual person at Verizon who checks the phone... Somebody might load up the Bootloader and See "Unlocked" and all hell breaks loose... Or some dude might just ignore it and flash a Factory Locked Bootloader and move on..
As for Warranty IDK.... Check the manuals that came with the phone

So, here's the better question, has anyone here actually been slapped with a fine for returning an unlocked bootloader?

So far as we are aware, noone has. To be honest, as tach said, they might just flash the stock bootloader and go on. Depends on if that employee wants extra work or not.

Is this at the store or at a return center? Not sure of the terminology for the location where a VZW employee would have the opportunity to flash an engineering bootloader.

I don't think they will go that deep and check the bootloader, when my OG droid antenna crapped out on me I brought it in on cyanogenmod and they didn't even notice, the employees in most of the cases don't know squat about the phones and what to do with them

[Q] I'm selling my Thunderbolt, un-root or leave rooted?

I'm thinking I might be forced to sell my HTC Thunderbolt. Right now I am running the latest BAMF 2.1, and my question is, can I sell my phone and be able to meet someone at a Verizon Wireless and have the rooted Gingerbread Tbolt activated to whoever the buyer will be? Or do I need to flash back to bone stock unrooted 2.2? I'm hoping to leave it as is and just do a data wipe so that perhaps mine will have a little bit of an edge over the other phones I'm seeing posted now. I hate to sell it but times are tough. Thanks for any advice! -Phil

Grounding the contact just forces the phone into download mode so they can unlock it. The only other way to get there (that I know of) is to softbrick the phone by breaking the hboot signature.
Damn. People had to get really clever to get to that. That's amazing. Hopefully our way forward will be simpler and safer. I'll bet many people traded the the rezound for something simpler to S-off

OTA'd 2.04 unlock bootloader

First I would like to thank all the DEV's for all the great things you have done for many, many phones over the years. Second I see a lot of people getting pissy over the 2.04 FW for the DNA. I updated before getting the unlock.bin, I was a day late and a buck short on finding out I could not unlock the new bootloader, whose fault was that? Mine and mine alone. I bought this phone in the first place because I liked the specs and kinda figured XDA would have it figured out, and you did. I have always appreciated everything XDA has brought to the table for me since hmm since a boatload of phones ago, I did then and do now. Some people here need to be reminded that you guys put in a lot of hours and work for the mods and write ups you bring us on your own free will and most likely are not making a ton of money for doing it.
If you guys are working on it then great and thank you, if you think it's time to move on to a new project and those of us that updated are SOL then I DO NOT hold it against you or take it personally and still thank you for all the great work you have done thus far.
Thanks,
Shane
Yes, I agree totally.
And would only like to make it known that I'd be willing pony up the donation to make it possible for us too. As I would hope many others would also...?
Thanks again.

People need to realize that a lot of these guys have families or are in school and do this for fun. One guy had posted up that he was super sick and wasnt gonna be doing much and people still blew the thread up asking when he was going to work on it again. What these guys do is great and it is leaps and bounds more amazing than the iOS community I came from. (Prior iphone owner).

I'm sure that's EXACTLY how the devs feel. </sarcasm>
While normally I might agree with you, so what, this is just a general forum, and there a still plenty of people who need to realize that these devs are random people just like them. These devs just happen to have some know how and willingly spend (a lot of) their own time working on tweaking things. Then they're nice enough to share that work with the world, often asking for nothing more than sharing their work and credit where it's due.
And I know of a few who are doing that... I understand who your are speaking to and I agree.
I'm just saying it's understandable that they're upset. Me, I traded it knowing I'm gonna have to wait and am trying not to cry about it. It may get cracked or maybe not, still a great phone!

I'm not rooted, I was then bricked doing something, hard bricked, got a phone sent to me with the rootable FW BUT I did the update before I unlocked. MY bad. I would love it if the DEVs figure this out and make it so people like me and who ever else can root again. If not I read some where I can send it in to get JTAGGED or I could always look for a non updated DNA or just wait and buy the HTC ONE, but I really love the DNA, I would love it alittle more if I could do a few more things that a rooted DNA lets me do.

I don't think this is a keep your phone scam. I fix and build PC's on the side and I have strangers give me laptops, desktop, ipods, phones, and other junk all the time to be fixed. And when something needs parts they give me credit card numbers. Maybe they can send you some sort of email contract or receipt or something.

[Q] Phone Replacement

Ok, so I'm an impatient little bastard and I want to get my phone s-off, but I took the OTA. So, I'm considering "accidentally" dropping my phone in the toilet or bathtub or something, and getting it replaced through the insurance. Here's the only problem: does anyone know if the phone that will come from Asurion will be brand new or "refurbished", and will it already have the OTA preloaded on it, or will it be just a fresh phone with no updates?
