Replacing China-Phone ROM - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just bought a brand-less China-made Android phone with the words "4G LTE" on its back. It is dual SIM and a portable TV.
I would like to know if there is a better ROM while retaining the 2 features abovementioned?
Looking at the About Phone and Sysinfo, it says that it is a:
Processor: ARMv6-compatible processor rev 7 (v6l)
BogoMIPS: 668.46
Features: swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp java
Release Codename: REL
API Level: 10
CPU ABI: armeabi
Brand: yusu
Hardware: mt6573
Android Version: 2.3.4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Device Model Number: e1101_v73_klx1ctp_capella
Baseband Version: MAUI.11AMD.W11.19.SP.V2,2011/10/01 03:35

What would you advise? Thanks!

MIUI se convierte en Open Source

Looking for the same thing, anyway somone could provide a link to techknow china roms? I tried google it brought up several entries. Can't get a bead on it.
h4300, is currently having problems with the screen getting out of sync (i think) starts to scramble and stuff like that.
The power button never worked out of the box, I had edited the key files to get functionality out of it, but I still cant turn it on. When its in the powered off state.
I am thinking this is just a rom issue. Since I am fairly new to the android scene, I cants say for sure.

Certainly, compiling my own rom is an option. Before I even attempt that I have to figure out how to get a recovery option going. I'm not even sure if its possible to get clockworkmod on this phone.
It's just so hard to find info on these mt65xx phones. If anyone has experience with mt65xx china phones, concerning backup, recovery, flashing. Please send me a PM.
What I need to figure out is how to backup the ROM on it, and flash new one. I guess I can live with finding / or compiling my own. However I would like to avoid building my own.
Thank you for you responses.

I want to note, that I would like to just (re)flash the original rom, as opposed flashing a custom one.
I am thinking something got corrupt during their flash process. Talking to china customer support about it isn't yielding any results. They just keep asking me to send it back, and shipping it back costs more then the cost of the actual phone.
If I could just find the correct tools to flash, and back up. It would be a step in the right direction.
Again thank for your responses, helpful or not.

Search google for a chinese htc hd2 clone someone did a port of cyanogen and recovery for it mate. Once i arrive home i will also try to search for the phone again

well decided to send it back (found a cheaper way) Got the new phone and working great except that the app HP Eprint$biz is not printing my pictures over cell data connection, all automatically print failure....
I dont get how it works on one and not on the other its the same phone. Am I missing something simple???
***EDIT** Ehh whatever went to an older version all is well. I can live with that.

I think I just found a cwm recovery....gotta test
Also another ROM ... will test both by end of week.
***edit sadly I was unable to get the other ROM I found working.....still testing with it***

Have you create a new scatter file for your phone?

The phone is a Hero H4300 using Mediatek chip MT6573. If you look for "H4300 Thunderbolt" on Youtube, you can see that the manufacturer has a new 3D ROM for it. It will be great if we can flash our devices with this new ROM. Thanks for your great job and I am looking forward to a custom ROM for this little wonder, because the stock Bluetooth does NOT work well, and Skype for Android has a problem with it too, apparently.

No I never did create a scatter file for the h4300 with the MT657x3 Flash Tool. I do know it can be done. The process was a little over my head at the time. Being pretty new to the android platform I just wanted a simple solution to do backups and recovery (quick and easy) which is why I was trying so hard to find a CWM recovery for it.
I did manage to get the recovery working using the scatter file that came with the original rom, I just clicked on the recovery file, and browsed to the (CWM Like)recovery and flashed. I got and error when done flashing it (but it works, tested nandroid backup and restore, but thats all I tested) Im not sure if this was the correct procedure....I doubt it was. But backups and recovery worked for me. I dont want to mess around with it too much if that functionality is working.

I am not responsible for any part of the creation of this. I merely translated the sites and found a recovery that worked.

Well I hope that someday we can have custom roms for this phone....

What cheaper way did you find ?

[Q] HTC HD2 Clone from China

I bought an HTC HD2 Clone from China (T Mobile). He is under WM 6.5 and I want to change the ROM. The problem is that I do not know if it's possible for this phone. In the Device Information I can read this:
BSP Version: ROM Version-V01.00; ROM Date-Sep 10 2010;BOOT Version-2010.08.01;PCB Version- V01.
In Radio Module: Serial Number: HT9BWNW00617; Revisin Data-2010.08.01; Model ID: T8585; Manufacturer-HTC.
In Hardware: CPU Model-QUALCOMM82...; CPU Speed-1024MHz; RAM Size-576MB; Nand Size-1024MB; Data Bus-32Bit; LCD Color-65536; Resolution-480x800.
It has not SD card but 8Go of Internal Memory. I can not find any information about Radio Version and I do not know if I can flash it. Can you help me, please?
I am pretty sure it lies about RAM and CPU .
No, you can't flash normal ROMs on it. You're gonna have to figure out the way to flash it (probably their tools?) and cook your own ROMs.

Well I do not know if it will work or not, but might be worth a try. Is to try a SD version of an Android build here. Try downloading the files and put them on the phones memory and then open android. The instructions are pretty simple for the installation and opening. I am currently using a build of AmericanDroid. It is pretty nice. I do not think it will brick the phone, because it does not self boot unless you download an app to make it do so. You will have to use a file explorer. I recommend using total commander. It might be worth a shot

I think the biggest issue is that if you have problems with flashing, there is no way to restore the stock ROM. I would not expect a flash to work, but one never knows with clones.

Haha... +1 for that...
But then again, if you´re new here... maybe the amount of information about HD2 here at xda is a bit confusing.
Here is the Android SD section: Click!
Of course, there is more information about how to do inside the HD2 Android section...

I am not stupid (I think) but I'd like to now if I can try to put Android System on my chinise clone, that's all. On my phone I can not find any info about the Radio version and I do not now if it is "changeable". In tne Android section I can not find this info and I do not want to post the same question there.

No one has posted anything for a Chinese clone that I am aware of. You are going to have to do the initial work yourself, using the instructions on how to update the "normal" HD2 to Android, then going from there. As I said before, the big problem in my view is what to do if the Android load fails. With the genuine HTC phone, you can simply flash the original ROM. Do you have a ROM file you could flash, in case the update goes bad?
When I looked at those phones, it was always with the assumption that if I ever bought one, whatever came with the phone would be IT - no upgrades possible unless they came from the same manufacturer.
just do it...
you should not need to worry about radio too much (other than you won't get the best working connection/wifi/battery usage/etc. without the proper and corresponding radio, but you can just load the android folder onto your 8gbs and hit the clrcad/haret & see what happens. Why'd you go with the knock-off? The original is worth the pennies.

If the clone is using different hardware it simply won't work; the drivers are built for the stock HD2. Then how does he get back to stock? Doesn't he have to install Maglor or something like that to work dual boot Android? (Sorry if I have names wrong, I don't do Android on my HD2).
This happened to me when I bought an HD2 from someone in the Atlanta area. They sent me an HD2 clone, I did some research and found that it's really not an HD2 but a phone made to look like an HD2. After some work with paypal and ebay I was able to get my money back. My best advice to you is send the phone back and get a real HD2.
HD 2 clone.
There are generally 3 types of HD2 clone:
single SIM, resistive screen
dual SIM, resistive screen (exactly what I have myself)
dual SIM, capasitive screen (rear camera hole is at different place if compare with original).
If you describe what you keep, probably, I could help you.
I rarely use 3G, and slow core provides me long life battery, dual SIM is very useful. Besides, I DO NOT like capasitive screen as I often use office software, that's why this clone is ideal for me! I've purchased standard size extended battery on Ebay and it lasts 4-5 days of regular usage. Yes, there are some issues with it: camera should be abt 3 MPx, you can't watch high bit-rate movies etc. But all other options are good enough!
Good luck!
I don't trust chinese clones. If u have enough money buy original phone.
HD2 CLone
Hello,
I'm a quitley happy owner of the HD2 Clone (CECT8585).I'm using it since a month, and it works very well with WM 6.5. I have a lot of program like Tom Tom 7 and accessories. Is fast and stable.Using Dual Sim does not kill the battery.Any way, I'm traing to use Androind on it.
I tryed in 2 ways.First one with FastRam android, secon one with double booth. Both gave me the same error.Just froze after loading CLRCAD/HARED in Linux loading Bar-
I thought It could be a Radio problem.I have the last version of the system wity resistive display. Any help from you side?
Thank you.
You have to roll-back, no other way to my mind!

Updating Hyundai A7HD using an .img file?

I've been using Android for quite some time on my phone but im used to an update-process involving archive-files on CWM.
Now i just bought myself a new Tablet by Hyundai digital, the A7HD and the update is supplied in .img format.
to be precise:
RKS7S01_A7HD_20120420.img
and now im not entirely sure how to flash this, since all instructions come in chinese/korean and i am unable to understand them.
About the System itself:
Allwinner A10 CPU
with Android 4.0.3
Kernel version 3.0.8
You should check http://www.flashmyandroid.com/forum/showthread.php?730-ROM-Hyundai-A7-HD-Firmware-ICS-4-03-20120420/ . Although you have to register.
Actually, im already a member there.
See the fourth post in the thread you linked me to?
Thats me.
Same Username i use on XDA, as well.
Im the one who discovered the "Safe Mode"-boot and the hidden Recovery Menu on the A7HD.
Lol, didn't notice about it. A7HD's community is not as large as I'd thought to, but is growing. In htcmania we've got custom ROM's already by a begginer cook!
Is it called Onix 0.2.1 by any chance?
If so... Thats the Firmware i am using.
And its quite a good start, cant wait to see what he will end up doing with it.
PS: I managed to install Firmwares onto my A7HD now.
Once i found out how to do it, i wrote a Tutorial, so everyone who doesn't know how to, can find out how i did it here:
http://www.flashmyandroid.com/forum/showthread.php?838-TUT-How-to-update-the-Hyundai-A7HD
Yes it is. It's quite good, though there are some bugs that came from the original one.
For example, the change from portrait to landscape with no reason when changing from one app to another.

Hi, if you searched for it on Google and XDA (as I just did to check), it likely has not been rooted yet. Sorry! The best thing you could do is to google search and search XDA every week or so, maybe something will turn up soon!
I might get one of these, as they're $100 on Target's website for Cyber Monday.
Not enough people have them for someone to invest the time into rooting, but a common root method might work...

I successfully rooted my Maylong M270 by using the software in the linked thread. I was able to install Google Play, and from there I updated SuperUser and BusyBox. Titanium Backup works properly. Without a custom kernel, overclocking is impossible for the moment, and I'm not too sure on how a kernel (or custom recovery and ROM for that matter) can be ported, but the root is here and working.

I know it's been way long since the OP, but a tool called "ICS root" (can be found on SourceForge) will unlock this tablet. The device is a bit temperamental so once you run the .bat in terminal, you will have to manually restart and log back into the tablet before continuing each prompt at the terminal. Eventually after 2 -3 prompts, the .bat will be finished and the tablet will "update Android", a sign that you have successfully rooted.
Good luck all.

However, I'm not allowed to post links, since I have not posted before. So I'm going to post this info in a series of posts, hoping that by the end, links will be allowed.
To find more info on your tablet there is an app in the Play store called CPU Identifier that will tell you what type of board you have in the tablet. Search for that board name on XDA to find rooting advice.

Custom ROM and ROOT for Maylong M-270
But the short story is, there is a way to root this tablet, but even better there is a custom ROM available. HardcoreHacker over at "techknow dot me" has been working hard on this. The key to figuring this out was realizing the WM8950 SOC chip set used in this tablet is the same as the WM8850. They are interchangeable. The rom is called Uberoid and is Jellybean 4.1.1, and it works great. My tablet runs very well now, and doesn't lock up all the time like it used to. I also have a link where you can download the original firmware from Maylong. So I'm trying to get some posts here so I can do a proper link, however here are some ugly links to try.
Original Firmware:
maylonggroup dot com forward slash Tablet_downloads.htm
and Uberoid Link
3w's "dot" techknow "dot" me "forward slash" forum "forward slash" index.php?topic=5356.0
Again, I apologize for the very cryptic links - I will work on getting them posted properly. I have two of these tablets and both are running Uberoid. I'm very satisfied with it. The only issue I have (on both tablets) is the battery monitoring is very poor. But this is in the kernel I think because it is the same as it was before the custom ROM.
NOTE! - as you will see on the Maylong Site, there are two different models of this tablet - You can tell which you have based on your serial number, but I think this is a pretty important distinction. If you have the same model as I do, you are going to need JingHan_MID7_V715_8228_FT5206.fwc from the Uberoid List. My model's serial number is M2701204 which is in the same group as M2701202, M2701203, and M2701205)

[Q] Available roms for the Cube U39GT?

I am planning to buy one of these tablets to tinker with. After some searching, I found the following rom alternatives:
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum...-firmware-version-1-04-test-version-20130723/
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/91121-tempestu39gt-roms-v0001/
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/89434-custom-firmware-from-4pda-based-on-stock-104/
Do you know of any other worthwhile rom to try out, or are these three all that's available?
Anyone?

thanks for sharing, gonna try the TempestU39GT
There's also 1.05 multiwindow rom that some say is better than stock 1.04, download is here :
rom
Do not buy the Cube U39GT-3G version of this tablet, I ordered one from http://www.cube-tablet.com and it came with a wrong IMEI number. I cannot use any SIM data card because of this with this tablet.
I bought the Wifi version, so I am not in danger. Thanks for the warning though, it certainly speaks of extremely crappy QA.
racht: anytime, and thank you for the link to 1.5.
It seems like another rom might be on the works:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?8204-Are-there-any-worthwhile-roms-for-the-Cube-U39GT
Apparently it will be based on stock 1.04 instead of 1.05, but if it comes to completion it might be worth it to try it out.

ROM has been uploaded yesterday but the dev doesn't own a U39GT. So anyone willing to test can do it now
I can't believe that slipped by me. Thanks for the heads-up. :good:
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum...2-custom-root-firmware-version-1-06-20131123/
This looks promising as well with 1.06 Cube firmware update and AOSP launcher.
New original Cube firmware 1.06 is downloadabl from official cube site.
http://www.51cube.com/ch/DownShow.asp?ID=205
I can recommend Google for translating the chinese, you can download the ROM from baidu which could take a few hours.
Awesome, thanks for the heads-up.
They require registration to access the downloads? Dammit, I refuse to create an account just to go and download something. Do you have an account there, locutus2000? If so, would you be willing to mirror it somewhere?
I was able to fix the IMEI issue, so it is safe to buy, again. The support from the vendor was not helpful, the wrong IMEI number is not only wrong for me but for all of the sold models. They all have 111111111111111 as IMEI number, no big deal with the MTK Droid Tools I was able to load a new IMEI, that was generated from an internet site. It works with the SIM cards now.
Important to know: the Cube 9 Talk with the 3G SIM card uses MediaTek MTK8389T CPU whereas the Cube 9 without the SIM card 3G feature uses a RockChip RK3188 CPU. The ROMs are not interchangeable.
So whatever issues you may have, it may be a completely different story for the person that owns the other chipset. Strange enough that Cube built two similar products with completely different hardware.
The Cube U39GT 3G ROM Version 1.03 for the 3G version can be found here:
http://www.51cube.com/ch/DownShow.asp?ID=206
If you have donwloaded and unpacked the firmware, you may end up with chinese folder names. Flash tool did not accept the scatter file when I tried to select it using these folder names.
To resolve this: Simply create a new folder name and copy/paste the ROM of the Cube to the new folder, the update should then work with the Flashtool. I have used Version 3.1328.0.183. The update takes a while so be patient. Worked with mine.

Any CWM/TWRP porting tool for MT6580 but 5.1/Lollipop?

Even the auto-search after entering thread title returned only threads with 0 replies...
So i have some no-brand chinese MT6580 running Lollipop 5.1 - not KitKat.
All the automatic and semi-automatic recovery porting tools work only for GB/JB/KK
Sadly the MT6580 kernel source was never leaked, so no compiling also.
Any way to get anything working? i would be even happy with a non-Touch CR...
Bumping this one as I am also looking for a way to port TWRP to my Galaxy S7 clone. And yes, it seems that none of the recovery porting tools seem to work on my end either. :/

I've hacked together a TWRP image for a FiGO "Virtue 2", 512MB, 8GB, MT6580, 5.1 but it is larger than the upload limit so I can not attach it for you. It seems to work with the possible exception thus far of not finding OTG storage, an issue which shall not keep me up at night. Installs, backs up, recovers ..... so far so good.
DISCLAIMER: As everyone says, use at your own risk. If the aliens come and take away your house pets or you experience any other device related or coincidental calamity of any kind, there's nothing I can, should, or will do about it.
Used the Carliv Image Kitchen, my stock recovery image, a TWRP image I found for an Infinix "Hot 2" and the general procedure found at this URL
http://www.xposedgeek.net/how-to-port-philzctrcwmtwrp-recovery-to-your-phone/
If you have the flash stuff for your factory build like I did it is probably a piece of cake, because I am pretty new at this sort of thing and if it can be screwed up I usually can find the way to do so. Took about an hour including thinking time before hitting the button. I was either brave or stupid and didn't even set up a virtual test first, but it works :cyclops: The Almighty must approve of my actions at some level.
Proceed with appropriate caution.
Hope that helps.

The lack of OTG support is indeed something of a shame, but at least this is something. Thanks for the tip mate!
EDIT: OK, so I managed to port TWRP to my device. Only problem is that I had to fiddle with the partitions, and for some reason there seems to be no other way to flip the screen back other than compiling another TWRP image or google my way through a compatible prebuilt by some kid online. I'll post my flipped-screen version ASAP when I get to compile that thing myself.
Sorry for the double-post, but here's the source-built port I made for inverted framebuffers:
https://github.com/huckleberrypie/android_device_alps_z6u030
I made it for clone devices in mind, but feel free to port or fork this in case you need to use this on your phone.
