Just a heads up about otterbox and there warranty. - HTC EVO 3D

One of the reasons alot of people choose otterbox is because of there awesome no hassle warranty. Well i just had to get my htc flyer case replaced through warranty today and the lady was telling me to expect otterbox to get alot more demanding on there warranty replacements. She said there reporting substantial financial losses due to warranty claims. Some people have even been clever enough to call up otterbox and place claims on cases they dont have just to get a free one. So if your one of the people who love otterbox and know someone who abuses there warranty procedure you mite wana tell em to tone it down because soon you will have to send all broken parts to there headquarters in Colorado and wait for a replacement

They should have had people send back their damaged parts back in the first place.
It's sad to see that people are taking advantage of their current policy.

I think the problem is they dont make people take the pictures with the paper shiwing there name and date on it next to the phone. When i called about my otterbox they just asked what model it was and what broke and she shipped me a new one. Didnt even ask for pictures

i wouldnt have an issue shipping my otterbox back... no use keeping defective products around.

Interesting. I had to send a picture of the case to Otterbox the first time for the Commuter. I've gone through 3 of their damn Commuter Cases because they don't fit the phone properly (too big of a gap at the top). Finally had them send a Defender and I'm like WTF. Just make the Commuter fit properly. I'm just dealing with it now trying to find a new case. Great customer service though. Sad to see so many abusing it.

I like there warranty lol They are really cool about things I never abuse my cases or holsters ... I like how they just want a pic with your name and stuff .. Some warrantys are a pain in the ass... Have to send in the old case and pay shipping and takes a week or more to get a another one in...

So you're saying I could call them right now, tell them I had a Defender case fail on me, and they'll send me a new one, no questions asked?
Even if I never owned one?

No they don't.
Which is what I personally like with otterbox and is why I stick with them instead of Ballistic.
I hate to hear that people abuse this though. That just means their warranty will be more of a hassle in the future

Actually, When i called to file a claim. The lady asked me for 4-5 Digit Code on the Inside of the back of the Case to obviously prove that i indeed had the case lol.
It seems that they are starting to crack down on false claims. Which should have been in full effect since day 1!!

They asked me to do that LOL i broke the clip on my holster and wanted a replacement without paying $50 for a new on so he said to write my name and the date on a piece of paper and place it with the broken part and send it to him so i did.
Well i have an evo 3d and they sent me 3 evo 4g holsters so i emailed him back again telling him they were wrong, he said he would ship the correct one. About 3 weeks later i received 3 brand new cases and holsters WOOT so now i am otterbox for life... And i got to keep the evo 4g holsters so i sold them on ebay. Now i have 2 replacement defenders for when mine breaks or gets dirty lol.

Do you mind if i asked you the 5 digit code at the defender case and holster.....hahahaha

this thread needs to be shut down. I know there are people in this thread that have stolen these cases by this method or will do it now since they know they can.

I don't have an otter anything and this thread offends me. I agree this thread needs to go to away.

Assurion Claim - Heads Up

Hi All,
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up about making claims to Assurion.
TL-DR
Make sure to verify the hardware is fully in tact when getting an Assurion claim. Report even the slightest defect.
I dropped my phone about 3 weeks ago. Bummer. I got my "Like New" Assurion replacement. I immediately noticed the battery door didn't seem to fit well on the replacement, and would come unclipped very easily; sometimes when pulling out of my pouch. I shrugged it off as a problem with the door itself from opening and re-closing during the S-Off process, and just planned to buy a new door.
After flashing ROMs, S-Offing, etc, I noticed the door fit perfectly on the original as I was migrating all the data from the device (door was on because WiFi wouldn't connect otherwise). Hmmmmm.
I closely looked at the two devices, and noticed a very very small bulge coming from underneath the red cover that holds the battery. The bulge is so small, it almost seems too small to cause any problems, but it is.
I called Assurion, and they told me that if I had called in sooner, they'd send a replacement, but because I was outside of my 7 day window, they would not send a replacement.
I spoke to a supervisor (before I had my morning coffee; bad idea) and laid into him. He snapped back a bit that I should have let him finish, and he'd override the policy and send me a new replacement without forcing me to make a new claim.
In closing, if you're going to make an Assurion claim, physically inspect the device very carefully and report the smallest of problems you may find, even if you can't find the cause or think you may be imagining it.
Something interesting I noticed is that the new device did not have the VOID sticker on the screw, because I was thinking about swapping the back from the old phone to the new one. They may not have noticed, but I didn't want to chance it. The good news is now, if I have to replace a screen or something, the missing VOID sticker means I can replace the parts and they won't know I was tinkering inside .
Hope this helps someone avoid future frustration.
When I was having my OG Droid replaced, they kept sending me refurb ones that had literally TON of dust under the glass (I literally could not use it outside because of how much dust it was, you couldn't see the screen). I went through like 6 of them before they just sent me a new D2G.
I highly recommend being anal as HELL when you get a refurb from them.
I also report mine as lost not broken or any of that. Had a case were my mom sent one back and they said they "never got it". Believe me when I say this my mom sent the broken phone back. If they want their phones back they should us a carrier that allows tracking. That said if you are going to send one back be sure to get proof of shipping from the post office. That at least proves you shipped it then it can be between them and not you and them.
Edit:
And before someone jumps my ****, its not like I "loose" phones everyday. I have only had one claim on the EVO3D about a year ago or more.

I had the same issue with returning my brother's dumbphone. They said they had not received the phone and charged the account $519. Luckily I had held on to the proof of shipment. Two months later and after my account had been suspended twice for not paying the balance they corrected the error.

Cheers!
Asurion DROPPED me from my insurance saying I filed too many claims in a year, when in fact they were on different phones and 14 months apart. I called Verizon and Asurion, they realized they misappropriated a claim I made for my mom on her DInc2 that my baby brother decided needed a bath. They said I should have used all of her information on the claim, I told them no because it asked for the account holder info which is in fact ME.

Its the old "do as I say not as I do" its insurance fraud when in fact you still have the phone. You are lying to the insurance company..
PM sent..
Wait, WTF? They didn't send you a BNIB rezound? I busted my D2 back a year + ago and they sent out a BNIB. If I have to pay 100 bucks for a "deductible" they better send me a new one. not a refurb POS.
Well I am glad you all had GREAT experience with Assurion. I have had 1 bad experience and it ticked me off. Had a 32gb iPhone 4S. Notice the S there. Well long story short screen cracked, paid 200, got a new one sent to me. BNIB! Well I open it. Hmm something is not right here. Wait what is this? A iphone 4? Wheres my S. Wait theres more. There is a memory change? 16GB? Really? I called and the Support said that is the phone I had insured. NOOOOOOOOOOO SIR. Thats like using a strap on with the wife. Its just wrong! So I called Verizon thinking last resort ill argue with these guys. OMFG! Not only did they contact Assurion for me, but they gave me a 200 Credit on my account, and all I had to do was take the iPhone they sent me to a Verizon store and they replaced it with a 32GB iPhone 4S. Which needless to say I gave to my wife, for her sweet brand new REZOUND!! Never been happier!!
Get rid of Asurion
It is overpriced and refurbs suck! I use SquareTrade. If they cannot fix it, they give me full retail for it deposited right to my paypal.
And they are cheaper than Asurion
Weird they would send you a refurub.. My friends replacement from Asurion was brand new in box. Mine too.

I think it depends on stock. I've received both. I had a work phone stolen and they sent me a BNIB. Same for my WinMo device that was broken by the case VZW sold me.
It's odd how they replace things. When the power button broke on my OG Droid they told me to just send the unit itself and nothing else. I got a refurbished in return. When I bricked my Incredible they sent me a brand new unit with all the accessories and everything.

Ok i never had a problem with asurion and I am still a noob but I got a custom rom! (4 bricks)finally learned enough to feel less noon. My point is this. All phones should be reported lost. You can keep the broke one and who knows, maybe you learn enough to fix it. I'm still kicking myself in the ass about the one I sent back for a black screen. I know exactly how to fix it now but I sent it back. Grrrrrr

[Q] Phone Warranty

So it looks like we will get our new EVOs this week. I have been trying to decide what warranty would be best to protect this new phone in the event of a drop or some other human educed fail. I have narrowed the list down to the following two and was wondering if anyone has any experience with these warranties:
Zagg Safe. Reasonable price and covers rooted phones (which I plan to do with my new EVO):
Squaretrade. Recommended to me by a friend.

I have about 12 squaretrade warranties, but have never had to turn in a claim yet. If you do decide on them, make sure you use a 30% off coupon. I get an email from them every Tuesday with a code attached for 30% off.
I personally am going to just stick with the Sprint warranty on this phone. The monthly price sucks, but I have had to bring in phones multiple times in the past for repairs, and have never had to pay a deductible. So it has its advantages. But when you don't use it, it does feel like a HUGE waste of money. If I had $600 in my pocket, I might would just skip the warranty altogether, but unfortunately for me I don't. Paying a monthly fee, then deductible if needed is much easier for me to do.
I'm considering trying Ensquared.

Zagg is just lending it's name. They outsource their claims to another company called warrantech, I think, and they have horrible reviews. If you check the BBB website they have over 450 negative claims.

Well we will have to see what happens to see with the whole Zagg thing. You know people are more likely to leave negative feedback than positive feedback, so you never really know. If it turns out to be no good, shame Zagg will have their name ruined.
I bought my phone at BestBuy, bought 2 yrs for 160. That is equal to less than 7 dollars a month, no deductible. The only thing not covered is lost phones and I always have my phone on me. No questions asked, they take the phone and in 2-3 days I have a brand-new looking refurbished phone. I've never had a problem with the refurbished quality. Apperently they always replace all of the outside parts to make it look like new. I've gotten several refurbished through Sprint and they are always dents, scratches, etc.
Yea I get what you're saying. check out ensquared, too. I went to the website and they cover theft and loss and have a higher claims limit.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Best buy will not replace a phone in 2-3 days. Unless they have changed their policy in the last year, it takes a minimum of 2 weeks to send a phone out and get it back repaired the first time. After that, they will escalate your phone to overnight delivery, supposedly. To get a new phone, yours must be sent out 3 times and returned unrepaired. On the 4th time, they evaluate if a new phone is deemed necessary.
I know, I went through it last year and it took 6 weeks to get a replacement phone. That's 6 weeks without a phone and sprint wouldn't compensate me because best buy was the culprit. Did best buy compensate me? Ha. No.
Oh, and the "loaner phone" is only loaned after you give them a $150 deposit.

[Q] Insurance on Phones? Really??

this was mentioned in another thread... just didnt want to hijack the thread so i post it in a new one...
It will void your HTC "factory" warranty but if u have sprint tep then you can use the unroot and relock methods posted in the threads and you should be able to return them to sprint for repairs and such

So, i never gave any insurances for phones a big thought... if you think, that I had plenty phones, and none of them got so damaged, lost, thrown in the water... that I was worried about insurance...
I mean you pay depending where about 10$ per month (2 years 240$) so if you just in case can get your phone replaced and pay another 100$ deductable... so in the end i pay 340$ to be sure I could have a replacment phone... now in other words...if i say the phone is worth 600$ that would mean that every 2nd person would need to replace there phone so it makes sense for a consumer to buy this... really every 2nd person? still it seems to be popular in these forums...
I mean yeah i had a display break from one of my phone some time back went to the store ordered a new display 100$ done... here i would have still overpaid 200$ so I don't quite get it... but I do have an open mind to be convinced
My example is absolutely simplified... and they offer repair services as well... I understand, but still...
Am i just talking good care of my stuff? so that i dont worry about this so much ? just wondering...
I think of it like this do I have in pocket over 500 to replace my phone nope. So ten bucks a month is easier when I do need replacmet and pay 100. Second is piece of mind, I did a few replacements and fixes which is good. In the end sprint and insurance wins. The thing that bugs me was a few years back the amount of fraud going on and that's why it gets more expensive when it comes to insurance.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
This is a good example why I don't have sprints TEP. It's a big rip off. I personally like using best buy black tie protection. I paid $170 for 2 years it doesn't have a deductible it is cheaper than sprints TEP.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I personally think it's a waste of money. If I drop my phone on the sidewalk or in the toilet, I'll suck it up and get a cheap phone off Craigslist until I can save up for a replacement. I'd rather that than spend that much money a month on insurance. Besides, don't you all put a few bucks into an emergency fund every month anyway?
People say just be careful with your phone and you won't need insurance and if you can't do that then get ibsurance. Sure that's a good point, but there's no way I can watch out for it every day nor do I want to pile up money for insurance so small investments for quality cases and screen shields do that job for me for much less than paying insurance a month, so now I only have to worry about it for exceptionally dangerous days (camping, swimming, etc) which is easy if you remind yourself how important your phone is and how crazy it'll be without it. Living like this, I've never broken a phone.
But that's just me. I like someone else's idea, instead of investing your money in insurance where you never get it back, put it aside as a "phone" funds for yourself at the same rate this way you can keep your own money if you don't use it. You'll be paying more for the replacement, but if you generally don't break phones you'll be saving more money than you spend if you don't break it the next time (easier said than done, but I did say "if you generally don't break phones")
Basically, insurance is for people who either:
1) want to throw away money
or
2) break phones often (2+ times within one 2-year agreement)
Personally I don't think insurance is a bad idea but I do think sprints TEP structure is a total ripoff. Looking at a few EVO LTE on Ebay they're already going for under retail and I've seen a few open box sell for $450. I could only imagine what our phones would sell for in a couple of months. These phones will be so affordable soon rendering TEP a total ripoff if one had to pay a $200 deductible.

As mentioned, you'd be getting ripped off to pay that much for a replacement now that Ebay is stocked up and people are looking ahead to the SGS3.
But, hey, at least we're not being forced by anybody to carry phone insurance. Yet.

I think the bottom line here is if you want phone insurance, get phone insurance. If you don't, then you don't. It's that simple. However, I kinda find it interesting that a lot of people say hey I don't need phone insurance but are the same people that get insurance on electronics. I know it's much cheaper and there's no deductible but if you are gonna be a stickler then be one 100% of the time. Insurance is there for those that wanna be proactive and have a peace of mind at the end of the day. Think of how much money we throw away paying car, home and renters insurance without ever putting in a claim? I know all these things are mandatory but honestly we waste thousands upon thousands upon thousands for those things. However, it's the peace of mind knowing that if you smash your car up, your home gets burglarized or catches fire, you'll be covered and so will your valuables( if you pay that extra $200 a year or more for that). If these things didn't carry mandatory weight, would we have car or home insurance? It's the same question to ask yourself when looking to purchase phone insurance( minus the mandatory part). I carry the TEP insurance because it protects me against EVERYTHING! I know there is a deductible but it works for me. I've heard horror stories about BBs Black Tie Protection. Yeah there is no deductible but what you have to go through to get your phone fixed is not worth the $94 you'll save vs the Sprint plan and in the end you end up getting a refurbished phone anyways. That's like saying I'll go to Joe Schmoe to get my car fixed because he is cheaper than the dealership but end up getting your car back with more problems than you started out with. I just say go with what you like. In the same breath, you can't ridicule or belittle someone for being proactive imho.
My old Palm Centro, Palm Pre, and Evo Shift...
Centro had worn out button panel, and then someone stepped on it a bit and the button panel broke on the corner.... free repair in 1 day
Palm Pre died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
Second Palm Pre died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
Evo Shift died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
Second Evo Shift died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
So this is why I keep my Sprint TEP
Never paid a dime aside from the monthly fee

Ok. Still close to $500 on those though. And I'd still rather not have to pay $470 at once though...

$470 now $370 next month $270 the following month. Eventually the phone will level off around $225-$300. At that point making sprint deductible of $200 a total ripoff. I guess TEP is a good investment within the first 4 months of a phones released.

Well lets put it this way I've had phones since they first came out. Remember that BIG Motorola ! Also one of the first car phones. I've never had insurance or had a need for it. Same with screen protectors. Each to his own.
Sprint tep has gotten me out of soo many o**** moments that I will continue to pay for it and is probably one of the main reasons I have stuck it out with sprint. No other carrier has "repair" centers like sprint does

3d replacement nightmare

Back in April I cracked my screen on my 3d. Sent me a refurbished replacement. Within a month the soft keys and bottom of the screen go out. Take it back in to the repair store and they order a replacement. I wait over a week and What do I get? A certified pre owned with the paint chipping off. Is this normal? Read other people got different phones so why do i get a paint chipped used phone?

You're not alone. Sprint only offers refurbished EVO3Ds as replacements. I've gone through probably 7 or 8 phones already, and all of them have had issues.
My current phone has a big blue patch on the screen, it's missing the rubber gasket around the screen, and the aluminum frame around the screen is bent.
I'm overseas right now, so I can't get a replacement, but I definitely will when I'm back in the states. I'm kind of hoping I can get another phone, since I've only had bad luck with the EVO 3d, it seems. I emailed the technician at my local Sprint store, and as of right now, it seems you can only get an EVO3D as a replacement for an EVO3D.
I just got a new phone from sprint today after the one they had send me had hardware issues and a blue spot in my screen.

I'm in the same boat. This is my 3rd replacement. Time will tell how this one works. I hate refurbs.

Dropped my Evo 3D back on the 6th. Cracked the screen. Went to Asurion for the first time ever (have had insurance on all my phones for the past 4 years) and am getting an Epic Touch 4G as a replacement. Hopefully, I won't be disappointed.

My wife's Evo 3D wouldn't charge up (broken prong). The sprint store ordered her a brand new Evo 3D (same ugly purple one as her original). It arrived within a week and no issues with it at all. Not sure why some get refurbs, some get new ones, and others get different phones instead.

That would make sense. Our case, it was a manufacturer's defect so insurance (asurion) was not invloved. Guess we got lucky
I guess I will stick out my light screen bleeding... If only they replaced it with an LTE
I tried to get sprint to replace my phone when the whole left edge bent off. they told me i would have to pay 100 for a replacement if I had the insurance. I thought the whole reason to pay for the insurance is that if the phone broke you got a free replacement. Im glad i didnt pay for the insurance and I walked out of the store with a case
Out of curiosity why are people even carrying insurance on these phones anyways? Can one just find a good used replacement on ebay or craigslist for about the same price as the deductible?

I'm on phone number 4 as well, holding out for the new S3 if possible or it might be phone 4 due to a crappy usb port.
Phone #1 kept randomly rebooting, then after a reboot it decided to never connect to the Sprint network again.
Phone #2 had some visible junk behind the screen.
Phone #3 decided it wanted to commit suicide while I was watching Netflix, it made a loud beeping noise and would never come back on.
Phone #4 Capacitive light buttons are dimmed and since flashing cm9 they won't even come on. The usb port is getting loose and I have to charge my phone at an angle (awesome).
I know this really isn't HTC's fault due to Ausrion (sp) phones but going through 4 phones is kind of pushing me away from HTC. Waiting for S3 reviews to decide on that or the 4G LTE.
Already said screw it and picked up my LTE

Well looks like phone number 5 coming monday or tuesday. #4 just quit on me today, turned the phone off today because I had so training and when I got finished, turned the phone on and the screen won't come on......yay!
Took it to the coperate store, they looked at it and said we will get you another one (refurb). Does anyone know if the refurbs are from Sprint, Asurion, or HTC? If these are HTC refurbs this is quite dissapointing. On a positive note, while waiting at the store they had two very lovely women working there, one Cuban and one Puerto Rican,

I've been notified that Asurion will be sending me an ET4G as well since they dont have any more evo 3ds. Did they send u a new one? The phone has been out for almost a year now so im thinking it will be a refurb. Hopefully its in good condition.

While I was waiting there was an older guy there and he was flirting with the Cuban female and we talked for a while. He apparently flirts with her a lot and told me she was Cuban nd he said you owe me some red beans and rice and plantains lol. I had spoken to the other female and she told me she was Puerto Rican, they both make me wonder why I got married. :crying:

More like he is probably busy getting his device. Has anyone ever dealt with best buy with an upgrade before. They usually sit on hold with at&t customer service forever especially on release day. Patience I'm sure he will let is know when he can.

I actually don't care if Best Buy has any cases in stock and never upgraded or anything at Best Buy before simply because I don't want to deal with 3rd parties when my account is involved.

Just a quick FYI for you guys, I have not visited my local Best Buys (Milwaukee, WI) but I did call a couple and they said
they did not get any Samsung cases in at all for the Note 3. This would make sense since they seem to be back ordered everywhere.
This might be the first time I can remember recently that the cases were out of stock but the phones were not.
My local Best Buy did not have any accessories for the Note 3.
No official Samsung accessories at my local Best Buy but they did have the Platinum case branded Seidio kickstand case with belt clip.

Right back at you.
You said "Has anyone ever dealt with best buy with an upgrade before" and I answered. Otherwise, why did you quote my post? I just felt like answering since you quoted me. I'm not going to explain any more about something that shouldn't need to be explained.

Went to Best Buy on Thurs, Samsung dept guy told me they'd have cases in on Friday. Went back Saturday, nothing. They never came in. FWIW, also checked out an AT&T store, Sprint, and Frys. Nobody had anything.
I ordered a tempered glass for my screen from Amazon but it's not here yet so I went to best buy and they had zagg invisible shields for the note 3. So pick up one of those til my tempered glass gets hwre.

I returned the two cases I bought at T-Mobile, that Tech 21 stuff is way overpriced especially for a folio case with no window at 45 dollars and a tpu for 35 bucks lol. I'm surprised BB doesn't have anything yet since they are selling the darn phone for 4 different carriers, I don't mind paying that kind of money for a case but it better be a name I can trust like Otterbox, Speck, Seido or BodyGlove. Went to Samsung site and even their S-View cases are on backorder, man I thought the G2 was going to be a ***** to get a case for but they had plenty of choices compared to this.
Its probably going to be a few weeks before any of the Sammy accessories roll in to BestBuy.

The Tech21 case isn't bad TBH but it just makes the phone too wide and tall! I know it's for that edge protection but still. A Speck Candyshell Grip would be far better for the same price!
